It is hard to find honest, competitive price, and great customer service auto repair shop. Bobby and his team are really amazing. I came to Mavis to replace my 2010 Highlander tires. Bobby suggested to replace all struts too. I know that it has been 14 years never being replaced. He convinced me that it's time to replace it. Also, he said that it needs more time to replace it in order to get it right. I like the way they work. Very professional. I purchased 4 tires from this location and when I arrived home I noticed 1 of the lug nuts wasn't put on properly. I waited until the next day to take it to a local shop to just have it tightened but it turned out Mavis stripped the lugnut and the stud and it had to be replaced. When the mechanic took off the tire to replace the stud he noticed yet another stud was stripped on that same tire and that had to be replaced. Its obvious they tried to hide this and didn't think I wouldnt have noticed this. Instead of just telling me and replacing it they tried to be shady. I utilized this location for new tires. The work performed was excellent which included an alignment, balancing and rear drum brake cleaning and adjustment. The time required for the job was reasonable as well. Two noteworthy issues are worth mentioning, however. The tires sold to me were close to two years old (determined by the DOT info on the sidewall). This is clearly not a best practice. Also, C-19 precautions were poorly practiced. Most staff either were not wearing masks or were doing so improperly. Inexcusable!! read more

I went in there last night to get an inspection done and after waiting for an hour and half, the new manager "Alisha" comes in to tell me I need four new tires and four new brakes... like are you kidding me? Few months ago I had one of my brake pads replaced at this location, the old manager Ali was such a nice man. So fair, honest and reasonably priced. So you mean to tell me I felt one burnt out brake pad but couldn't feel 4? Oh and I had low tire pressure? I just got that taken care of a month ago and no signs in my car since then and mind it I drive a 2017 infinity qx50. They are scammers! Saw a young female and thought they could make money off of. I will never go back to these people and have no idea how they sleep at night doing wrong to people. After reading some of these reviews, I can see I wasn't the only Update: I went somewhere else and inspection passed. My car with God's grace has been running smoothly since I got it. I seriously cannot believe they tried to sell me 4 tires and 4 brake pads when I changed a brake pad with them last May. I had a 60,000 mile tune up done two months ago with the dealer where the brake fluid service was performed. . I just used Mavis for the inspection where they told me I needed break fluid for $80. I went back to the dealer just to make sure it has been done- it was the break fluid was clear and full. When I asked the manager about it he insisted it needed to be some. Good thing I went back to the dealer or they would have charged me for an unnecessary service. read more

Best experience EVER! I brought my car in for a flat tire at 8:00 am this morning. Unfortunately they weren't able to repair it because there was a razor blade in the tire but I was able to purchase a new tire for a very reasonable price. They put my new tire on, added air to my donut and put it all back together in 20 minutes! I was very impressed with the service I received and would HIGHLY recommend!! read more

If I could give them zero stars I would! Horrible communication, I called the night before to see if they did an inspection, they said yes, I get there right when they open, they take the key, they mention NOTHING about the fact that they need to take the car out of the facility to preform the inspection, they take 1 HOUR to take our car in, despite available space, and staff, staff was just standing around doing nothing. Then, 2 AND A HALF HOURS LATER, we ask where our car is, and they said they had to take it to another mavis to get a sticker for the inspection, which is a huge liability that I was not made aware of, the rude receptionist claimed she told me, when she was not even the one who checked me in or took my key. Then, they arrive back with my car, later than they said, and they drive it through this ENORMOUS, DEEP puddle, when my car is a very low car, I was furious, there is more than one entrance to the facility, and he could've pulled into the entrance without the enormous puddle. The manager heard me upset and just sat there defending everything they did instead of apologizing. Terrible service, I will never return there again, and I hope people read this and avoid this place! read more

They told me its a coincidence that the light went on and IT IS STILL ON TIL THIS DAY. I took it back 4 times and they cannot get it off. The staff and manager are so rude!! Can't even get the most basic things right I went to Mavis in Hyde Park to get two tires I purchased from them installed onto the rims with old tires on them I brought in. They did the work in a timely manner and I returned to pick up the tires. I arrive home and to my surprise the sticky wheel weights were already falling off of both of the tires. After further inspection I see that they didn't even clean the place on the rim where the weights were to be placed. That is tire installation 101, and they couldn't even properly do the most basic thing. I called the store and asked them why they didn't clean the rim, and the manager replied that they didn't have the cleaner. So that meant that I couldn't even go back there to have the problem resolved. So I called customer solutions and told them what happened and what I was told by the manager. They were very helpful and told me a district manager would reach out to me in about 24 hours. About 2 hours later I get a call from the district manager. His phone etiquette was very lacking and I have heard 9 year old children do a better job at proper phone manners. After I pried his name of Darren out of him, he basically said that no one would say that they didn't have the cleaner, which I replied, listen to the phone recording. I then stated my concern if they even prepped and cleaned the rims properly as stated on the instructions located on the tire sticker since they couldn't even install the weights properly. He said absolutely they did. He then offered to meet me to fix the problem but I was unavailable. At this point they already wasted to much of my time, so this morning I went somewhere else and had to spend an extra $50 to have them mounted and balanced again. FYI, the rims were not properly cleaned where the bead seats. I find it naive of Darren to think that all the people that do business with mavis have never done a job that involves installing tires and that I wouldn't do my own investigation on the matter. I do not care about the money as much as I do the principle of the matter. I did my part and paid for the service, they did not do their part and provide the service properly. Bad business practice for one, and in certain situations, potentially dangerous. So thank you for wasting my money, and more importantly, my time. Sad that this is acceptable behavior from the store and the district manager. If I were being paid for this review as a company quality investigator, the upper management would be mortified if I actually did my 5 point review system. Let this be lesson to all involved, you never know who you are talking to. Step up your game before a paid investigator is the next person you do this to. DO NOT COME HERE. Horrible customer service. They do not care about the business or their customers just a paycheck. Wow -Is all i have to say. I come to this location often to get both my cars maintenance. I have NEVER experienced what I did today. Despite having 2 stars on google ive gotten lucky with just cordial customer service, never over the top but cordial. Came in today on a sunday at 11:30 for an oil change and asked David Salander or whatever his name is, how long it would take and if I should stay, he said it will be done in 30-40 minutes. So i stayed and sat in a corner and put the timer on my phone for 40 minutes in case they didnt see me. I realized my name wasnt called yet so I gave them another 5 minutes before asking about it. My timer went off at 12:15 so I asked David and he said they are bringing my car back now. Of course i got upset because I just waited here for 45 minutes and asked him why he didnt tell me when I could have left and came back. This David was SO rude and said "oh please, it will take 20 minutes to do your car you havent been waiting that long". SO UNPROFESSIONAL. He checked the time and yes - it was 45 minutes and now id have to wait another 30 minutes. I even called ahead of time to see if they could take me right away and they said yes. I would have gone somewhere else its not a big deal - i am an understanding person. If he was apologetic and kind about the situation i would not have gotten as upset, i get things happen. But nope, nasty kid attitude. He then said "you know what take your keys, I cant help you". I said "what do you mean I have been waiting and you said you are taking the car now" . He proceeded to give me my keys and say "no i cant help you". This customer service was beyond DISRESPECTFUL and inconsiderate. I am beyond appalled and disgusted by his poor service and horrible attitude. Along with the other mechanics present who gave no apology at all. I told them they need to be nicer to their customers ive been coming here a long time and now they just lost one. Never going back despite the other times. BEWARE! Stay away from this so-called business! Consider yourself warned. The worst car related experience of my life! Horrible customer service. Unprofessional staff. Crooks! If I could give zero stars, I would. Judging from the dates of these reviews, this definitely has something to do with changes in ownership/management. I don't usually take the time to complain or to write bad reviews, but I'd be doing a disservice to the community if I didn't share the truth about this place. For the last 20+ years, I have gone through cars (both new and used) like most people go through socks. I usually have at least 6 cars in my stable at any given time. I mention this only to stress the fact that, although I am not a professional mechanic, I am very familiar with cars and I have close relationships with many mechanics. So then you might be thinking why did I go to this shop? - Great question... I have no idea what possessed me to go here after my primary mechanic located 2 blocks away told me that he ran out of NYS inspection stickers. Without thinking it through, I took my car to this Mavis because it was the closest place to my main mechanic and I figured, what could possibly go wrong with a simple NYS inspection since I just had 2 other mechanics confirm that my car has no issues that would prevent it from failing an inspection - one mechanic is not in the business of doing inspections and the other mechanic was the one that ran out of windshield stickers. Man, do I regret this decision! I should have known to run out from the moment I walked in to the customer area. I got there right when it opened (8am) and the only employee there was the assistant manager (he didn't give me his name) - older guy with white hair. The other 3 employees all arrived late to work (tip off #1). While I was waiting for the asst mgr to check me in, he was arguing with his boss on the phone (based on what I could gather from his end of the conversation) (tip off #2). I could hear that he was trying to justify what he was doing at the moment and telling his boss that "the other guys haven't come in yet." This is when I should've walked out. To make a long story semi-short, after waiting for about an HOUR!!, all 4 guys on duty performed the inspection at the same time (you read that right - 4 people to do a simple NYS inspection! - Including the assistant manager! It soon became very obvious to me (especially after I received the results) that they were trying to strategize on what issues they could make up to try to get me to pay for services/parts that I didn't need. Mea culpa for going to a tire/steering/suspension shop owned by a large corporation. So after about 2 hours of waiting and listening to 2 more of his phone calls cursing out his boss (both to him and after he hung up), the asst mgr tells me that he failed my car inspection due to (1) one front tire not having enough tread (2) a steering issue (3) a suspension issue (4) a parking brake issue (5) a chassis/frame issue and (6) KOEO (Key On Engine Light On) failure... and an estimated quote to repair for over $2,000! Not even one of these items was true - (1) the tire was more worn than the other 3 tires, but it had more than acceptable amount of tread left (2) steering - checked by 2 certified mechanics after - no issues (3) suspension - checked by 2 certified mechanics after - no issues (4) parking brake works perfectly - no issues (5) chassis/frame - checked by 2 certified mechanics after - no issues (6) KOEO - no problem whatsoever - check engine light lights up when key is in position 1 and then goes off and stays off when car is started with key turned to position 2 (just as required). Needless to say, I went to an independent mechanic (one that I could trust) shortly after this disaster of an experience and my car passed inspection with flying colors. What upset me most was that the asst mgr that I was dealing with could've just told me that my tire was too bald (although not actually true, but according to him it was) since he could see it in plain sight, before wasting 2 hours of my life, $37, and electronic submission to NYS! Oh and just when I thought things couldn't be any worse - the mechanics left tons of greasy finger/handprints both inside and outside my car - which I had to pay a professional detailer to clean since normal cleaning agents and methods did not work to get the stains out. Very unprofessional mechanical and staff. I was there on 10/01/2023 for a NYS inspection. When I picked up my car later in the day my stereo was set to maximum volume and the internal settings were also changed to maximum setting. The mechanic also turned the control knob for my speaker box to maximum setting. This ended up burning out the voice coil on the subwoofer. I reached out to the district manager, Samantha who accepted the damages. I told her if she looks at the sore video, she will see the proof. Weeks later I followed up with the district manager who told me to go see the store manager, Nick even though I went to an independent stereo installer for their professional diagnostic. Nick unscrewed and removed the woofer and determined that the speaker was still good and admitted he could smell the voice coil burning. I have recorded my entire interactions with Nick who admitted to the damaged speaker. Here I am four months later and Samantha is giving me the run around. This is how Mavis treats a customer of over 20 years and now servicing 4 family cars there. read more

Whoever plan to visit this shop. DO NOT DO IT. It's the worst shop ever and totally just rape your money. I give one star just all because I can't give Zero star on it. I have 2 year new vehicle that I barely use with less than 6k miles on it and fail inspection in their shop for emissions reason today. I know it after I pick up my car and see the inspection sticker is removed without put a new one or clean it up. During all day no one gave me a call to let me know my inspection is passed or failed. I understand all customers have to take own responsibility either test result is passed or not. But I can't believe is a new car would fail the inspection with extremely low mileage on it and no one let me know what you should do when you put your car in shop all day. so be careful that shop at least I never go that shop ever and I hope it can close down soon read more

After I came back to home, they called me no tire with them. What a waste my time. My name is Carlos and I visited your Mavis location at 708 Jericho Turnpike in New Hyde Park. I loved your prompt service and affordable price for my oil change. However, there was one very big issue I want to bring to your attention. It's a very sensitive issue, given the current political climate of the world...but I hope you can see where I come from. Some people do not believe the Coronavirus is real, others think it's not as bad as the scientists say. I, however, take the pandemic very serious. I wear a mask at all times, and I carry sanitizer with me. When I arrived at your center, the white shirt at the front counter was wearing a mask. Awesome. The three technicians in the garage were not wearing masks, or gloves. The technician who handled my car was not wearing a mask when he pulled my car into the garage, and when he pulled it out. I was shocked, disgusted, and angered knowing that someone was in my car who could possibly spread the virus because of their carelessness. There was another white shirt in the garage, and she was not wearing a mask either. She did have a face shield, but during my visit she probably had it on for a total of five minutes. I waited for almost one hour because there were two customers ahead of me, and I was getting an oil change and a tire rotation. If your workers do not take the Coronavirus serious, I understand their perspective (even though I disagree with it). They can choose to not wear a mask during their personal and recreational time. However, I would hope that while they are at work they wear their masks and gloves. If not for their own safety, then for the safety of customers like me. There are customers with pre-existing health conditions who are at greater risk for illness if they contract the Coronavirus. How dare your workers play with people's lives. I have worked in retail and I know that mistakes happen. Sadly, this time if your workers make a mistake and spread, or contract, the virus, someone can die. I believe it is your responsibility (corporate office), to inform ALL of your employees of expectations (i.e. wearing masks while pulling cars in and out, and wearing masks while working in the garage) while performing work for your company at your locations. Furthermore, they should be given the tools to fulfill those expectations. Thus, if you expect your employees to wear masks at all times while at work, make sure they have a supply of masks. Finally, employees should be made aware of consequences for breaking those expectations. Write-ups, layoffs, or being fired are some possible consequences. It would be unfortunate if someone died because of your inaction, or the employee's carelessness. I also suspect that lawsuits would go flying if it turned out that several people contract the disease at your locations because of your employees. Please make sure your employees wear masks. If, however, it is the policy of your company to make masks optional for employees then at least make the public aware so we can decide if that is something we want to walk into.
