Michael came out to my house and walked me through the pros and cons of a heat pump HVAC. For my home, the extra money made no sense. I really do not need central AC. We then talked about a new Carrier, high-efficency furnace. That was exactly what I needed. I also opted for the Ecobee Smart, wi-fi enabled thermostat. I am extremely happy with everything. The price was right. The installation was flawless. The post-intall QA walkghrough, by Johnny, went really well. ThenI worked with the folks that checked all the boxes post-intalleation. HERS test was easy with a pass.. Today, we passed the inspection, in under 5 minute. Every person I dealt with was amiable and professiona. The office staff always very nice. Michael Calvey was a joy to talk to. Thank you to Johnny, the project manager, and the folks from HOPSTER that facilitated the post-installation test and inspectioin. From start to finish I met with Michael on February 12th. The 16th the new furnace was intalled. February 17th Johnny did the QA walkthrough. February 18th HOPSTER did their pre-test and inspection walkthrough. The HERS test was done February 23rd. March 5th the city inspection was complete. This project was unusually complex and took nearly four months to complete. The process involved rodent exclusion, removal of decades of accumulated insulation, asbestos abatement, attic sanitization, installation of new ductwork, and finally new insulation. Throughout every stage, Ahmad remained involved, checking in regularly and making sure everything was progressing. A special thank you to Dave and Eddie, who removed the old insulation and installed the new material. What appeared to be a straightforward job of insulation removal, turned out to involve three layers of different insulation materials dating back to the 1950s. Despite the unexpected workload and physical demands, they never complained. They remained cheerful, professional, respectful, and hardworking throughout the entire process. As a senior citizen who carefully researches major home repairs, I greatly appreciated Ahmad's patience in answering my many questions. He was consistently kind, knowledgeable, honest, and professional. Unfortunately, not every contractor I met during this project demonstrated those qualities. When the team came out to inspect, they were incredibly kind and understanding. They thoroughly explained their recommendations and patiently broke down why batting insulation wasn't the right fit for our home. They also offered wall insulation which was what we were also looking for as our south facing walls always felt warm to the touch in the summer. We ended up hiring them, and they completed the entire job in just a few hours. I wanted to wait a few weeks before writing this, and I can now confidently say they did a fantastic job! The house feels significantly cooler and much less humid. (Keep in mind we had zero insulation before, so results might vary if you already have some old insulation). We'll see how it holds up this winter, but for now, I highly recommend them. They were done within two days and I was able to keep working while they were here! That's the overview. Here's the long story. I had a maintenance plan for our furnace through another company. They inspected the furnace and freaked me out when they said they couldn't do maintenance because of exposed asbestos in the ducts! Ugh! Even with my "special" plan pricing, their rate to remove and abate the asbestos (through a third party) and replace with new ductwork was very high. I saw All Bay and asked for an estimate. His team included removal, remediation, new ducting and insulation, new furnace - oh and cleaned the attic and installed new batting for the same price as the other company's quote. Plus the photos of previous work and their reviews sealed the deal. Done with all of it in two and a 1/2 days. The half was because they had a team that just cleaned and touched up behind the first team! These guys were so kind and worked fast. They even hauled out and disposed of some things a previous contractor had left in the crawl space without me knowing it was even down there! Then when we realized the fan in the bathroom wasn't working after the attic clean out and new insulation, the foreman himself came out to fix it. Pasquale had everything fixed within hours. If you're thinking of squeezing out another year with your old furnace, consider this - our PGE bill dropped by 100 with the new insulation, proper duct size and new furnace. That's 1200 in one year. Noam can help with that. He did not give me anything nor ask for any of this. This is for y'all doing your due diligence when it comes to home repairs. I feel you and it's been constant contractors in and out since we moved in. This team cared and I can't say that about many of the others.
