Henry is the reason why Therma Tech supersedes all the other HVAC businesses. We have an ancient furnace-condenser system. We had no idea when it was last serviced or if it had ever been serviced at all. Henry gave us a very fair and competitive price for a tune up. Upon Henry's arrival, he was friendly and professional. He opened the furnace and showed us the burner. He explained it was in great condition considering the age of the unit and it didn't need servicing; although, he did clean up around a few areas around the burner. The blower motor was slightly wobbly, and once again, he explained it was still in good shape considering its age. He proceeded to the back patio where the condenser was located. He noted the unit was very old and that particular Freon is no longer available for servicing; however, he stated the unit did not need to be replaced just yet as long as it's blowing cold. Henry indicated despite our units being way past their anticipated life expectancy, they were clean and blowing hot & cold just fine. Therefore, no servicing was recommended and he did not charge us anything. We are impressed not only by Henry's friendliness and professionalism, but also by his transparency and integrity. Many other companies would have hopped on the opportunity to upsell the service or even sway us to replace our system right away, but Henry gave us peace of mind to give us time and to save up for an inevitable replacement in the future with Therma Tech. Therma Tech should be every Bay Area homeowner's starting point in the search for an HVAC contractor. The AC at my parents' 2-story house went out in May and I surveyed every reputable HVAC contractor in the area. I wanted a system that would do a better job of handling the temperature difference between the top and bottom floors of the house than the old system did. To my surprise, each contactor I talked to offered vastly different approaches and a good number pushed for solutions that were clearly compromised at a very uncompromised price point. We ultimately went with Therma Tech and their suggestion to put separate Carrier 2-ton air handlers for each floor (one in the attic and one in the garage) with a heat pump compressor outside. Generally, this is the best performing but most labor and equipment intensive way to go about it, yet Therma-Tech's quote still came in lower than a lot of the other contractors who just wanted to replace the existing unit with another unit, usually of a cheaper brand, and perhaps add a zoning system. When it came to doing the work, the crew was exceptionally professional, clean, and patient with me even when I got excessively nit-picky, which I admittedly did constantly. The workers were smart and knowledgeable, explained everything I needed to know and offered options when there were different ways to go about things. They asked countless times if we were happy with everything and followed up after the job was done. I simply could not ask for better quality service. Six months later, the system is working like a dream. Whisper quiet, even temperatures between floors, and the house is more comfortable than ever. Most importantly, the parents are happy. Yesterday a Therma Tech crew, led my Jose Robles, completed replacement of both my 28-year old furnace and AC units with new ones. It took a team of two people to replace the furnace in one day and a team of three to replace the AC unit, also in one day. They were competent and efficient, and did high-quality work. There were also pleasant to work with and were willing to answer questions and explain things. On the front end, prior to placing my order with them, when I was exploring various options, their office staff were prompt and responsive in their communications. On the pricing side, they were within 10% of other quotes (they were higher), but appeared more professional and inspired in me greater confidence in the quality of their work. However, I would recommend to prospective customers that, before they commit to any particular technical solution, to explore all other solutions, along with their pros and cons, including repair vs replacement. For example, if you are considering a heat pump to replace your AC + furnace, understand it not only from the standpoint of initial capital costs, but in view of operating costs in the long term, i.e. gas-operated furnace vs electrically-powered heat pump operating costs, as gas is cheaper than electricity for the same amount of energy. I do not feel that these were explained to me at the front end of my discussions with them -- but should have been. Nevertheless, I do recommend them, as they do know what they are doing. read more

Therma Tech is my repeat HVAC company I have zeroed in on after experiencing many other HVAC companies from 1-2 person outfit to nuch larger. I started with them with troubleshooting an old furnace in our first home. They fixed and charged small amount to my pleasant surprise. Next I used their service at my condo rental and they fixed in less than $100 when another company was clueless and suggesting major replacements. Then while shopping for extension of existing heat pump duct system, they came in very competitive in pricing and actually the system performs better than how the other company (another outfit well reviewed on Yelp) had installed it 10 years ago. So I trust Henry and his entire staff with any job from super small to entire systems. Every person we have dealt with are absolutely phenomenal. Therma Tech upgraded my furnace from a single unit gas furnace to a two floor heat pump system about 4 months ago. My desires were for a quieter system and one that could fix the large temperature extreme between my first and second floor. Therma Tech did an excellent job in both areas and gave me the best price by far over all their competitors. I am extremely happy with the results and love my new system. The job involved removing my existing gas furnace and associated AC. They added a heat pump compressor outside and separate air handlers for both the first and second floors (one in place of the old furnace and one in the attic). The system is significantly quieter and I really enjoy the independent control of temperature for each floor. As a bonus powering the heat pump takes significantly less energy than before, and the energy is provided by my solar system. Lar, their sales engineer, spent a significant amount of time up front with me outlining options and trade offs. And he was there thru the entire installation process, in case I had any questions or concerns. The installers were a great crew. Very smart. Extremely courteous. Proactive in making sure I knew what they would be doing and when. And they kept everything clean after each day was over. Their customer support group is also as good as any I've seen. They were quick and responsive during the installation and permit process, and didn't forget about me after the job was done. For example, after I was running for a couple months I had a question about a smell, that I thought came from the air handler. They took my concerns seriously and had someone out in a day. Samantha was outstanding. She was literally outside standing because she arrived at our place earlier than scheduled. She had to wait a bit since it was the day before Thanksgiving. We had scheduled for 11, but she showed up before 10:30. I have no issue with punctuality--I'm the same way. But I was out doing groceries. Now, let's talk about the service. Samantha looks young, but she's super professional--a solid role model for the younger generation. She got straight to work and explained the issue clearly. I have an ancient gas heater, one of those that needs to be lit with a match or a lighter. Basically, she just needed to light the thing, but it took a while. While she was doing her thing. In my head, I'm thinking, this heater's gotta be replaced. It's over 40 years old. It's so old that Samantha doesn't even know the brand. As of writing this, the flame went out this morning, so maybe it's finally time to replace it. But Samantha did tell me what to do when the flame goes out, so I'll try to re-light it.
