Years ago the apartment complex I lived at contracted Calvey to install mini-split A/C in the apartment I was in. The install was amazing quality! So much so that it gave me the confidence to buy my first home without A/C because I knew I could just call Calvey. A few years later I did just that. Damn, it's been a couple of months now and I've been able to control the climate of my entire house from my phone, optimizing the temperature and sometimes making it as low as 66F to just enjoy the air being crisp. The install has been fantastic quality and the crew listened to everything I wanted every step of the way. They mounted rat spikes where I wanted, they put the lines and the units exactly where I asked and I've had no issues at all. I truly believe with home price comparisons in my area that I made money off of the install because it increased my home value. After meeting in person with numerous HVAC companies, my wife and I decided to move forward with Calvey Heating and Air. Michael Calvey thoroughly explained all of the options for our house's specific HVAC needs and was very patient with me as I asked a variety of questions. In fact, he made numerous trips to our house to answer the constant flow of questions my wife and I had. Bottom line, we built a solid working relationship with Michael and this gave us the comfort we needed to move forward with our HVAC investment. Calvey Heating and Air's estimate for a new heat pump and furnace at our house was very competitive. I was amazed at how much the pricing varied from vendor to vendor. Michael and the Calvey team made the entire process seamless from start to finish. Michael recommended an electrician who did a great job with our electric panel upgrade and the permit team did a fantastic job working with the city for all of the required paperwork. When it came time for the installation, the lead installer, Servando, and his team took pride in their work for the two day install. Similar to Michael, they were patient with me and answered all my questions during the install. Following the install, the Home Energy Rating System (HERS) Team promptly arrived and conducted the necessary testing. Lastly, the permit team met with the city building inspector to successfully get the city sign off on all of the work. Throughout the entire process, Calvey Heating and Air did a great job choreographing and managing all aspects of the installation. I was constantly kept informed and Michael and his team visited our house daily during the installation to ensure all was moving forward properly. Lastly, a final walk-through was conducted by Johnny from Calvey ensuring that the install was 100% perfect. Once my wife and I have had time to work with and get familiar with our new system, Michael indicated he will have his team come by our house and balance out our vents if needed and answer any additional questions we may have. I am a repeat customer. They had been taking excellent care of my 28+ year old Carrier Furnace. But, I wanted to explore replacing for more efficiency. Michael came out to my house and walked me through the pros and cons of a heat pump HVAC. For my home, the extra money made no sense. I really do not need central AC. We then talked about a new Carrier, high-efficency furnace. That was exactly what I needed. I also opted for the Ecobee Smart, wi-fi enabled thermostat. I am extremely happy with everything. The price was right. The installation was flawless. The post-intall QA walkghrough, by Johnny, went really well. ThenI worked with the folks that checked all the boxes post-intalleation. HERS test was easy with a pass.. Today, we passed the inspection, in under 5 minute. Every person I dealt with was amiable and professiona. The office staff always very nice. Michael Calvey was a joy to talk to. Thank you to Johnny, the project manager, and the folks from HOPSTER that facilitated the post-installation test and inspectioin. From start to finish I met with Michael on February 12th. The 16th the new furnace was intalled. February 17th Johnny did the QA walkthrough. I've been calling but no answers for the last 2 days. Bad experience overall. Tech came in, opened the vent but couldn't figure out that the water marks are a likely cause and spent an hour taping the unit to get their money's worth. We literally told him that we need to install a condensate pump to reroute the leaky pipe. We brought down our walls and we are back to square one where we need a condensate pump. read more

After getting a hard sales pitch from another HVAC company, Calvey gave me 3 cheaper options (replace refrigerant, replace only coils, replace coils + compressor.) They didn't pressure me at all as to which option to choose and simply laid out the pros and cons. Had them replace coils + compressor for a fraction of the cost that the first HVAC company tried to sell me. They were super professional and other than one small scheduling mistake caused by me calling them on a weekend, they were absolutely amazing both in person and with communications and follow up. Their estimate is more like a bid and once they tell you the price, that's the price. I accidentally double paid my deposit and they were quick to catch the error and refund the money before I even noticed. I paid to have them pull permits for me and pass inspection and there was a Calvey employee pre-checking everything and present during the inspection. I can't recommend them enough! UPDATE So after my negative review was posted, Calvey reached out. They were extremely apologetic, and Joe himself became very involved in trying to fix my situation. Apparently, they had a problem with their office staff a year ago, and while those people were let go, Joe had no idea of the depth of the issue. Joe immediately dispatched a tech, and they went to work on fixing the problem at no cost to me. Ultimately, it was a difficult intermittent issue, and Calvey agreed to simply replace the furnace at a significant discount. This was a fully satisfactory outcome for me, and I praise Joe and his team for bending over backwards to fix the issue. So yes, Calvey does stand behind their work. My only advice is to insist on talking to Joe if a significant issue arises, even if the office staff insists that's not possible. read more

I requested a dryer vent cleaning service and was asked to provide my phone number before scheduling. After sharing it, I was told, "Someone from our team will be in touch with you soon." Since this was during a workday, I asked when I could expect the call so I could plan accordingly. Unfortunately, I received the exact same response each time I asked--three times in total--without any additional clarity. For a company with so many positive reviews, I expected more professionalism and better communication. Providing even a rough timeframe would have made a big difference. read more

Update: in response to this review, Mike Calvey reached out to me and tried to make it right. Calvey is a company in which industry best practices are sometimes not followed. In 2021, Calvey installed a 4-ton, single stage Bryant suitcase unit on my property. This unit has seen less than 20 hr, likely less than 10 hr of runtime in these 3 years. It has evidence of an electrical fire due to completely loose - not even snugged connections on the contactor which should have been torqued to 35 in-lbs. In my case, this led to the failure of the contactor, which lit on fire and shorted out the 24v control coil, which killed my Nest thermostat before blowing the fuse in my furnace. This would very likely have been prevented if Calvey had followed industry best practices, which are to use a clamp meter to measure LRA and FLA to ensure they match the LRA/FLA rating. Taking this measurement immediately after installation helps prevent this kind of failure. Calvey also installed a Bryant Condensing furnace on my property a few years before installing the air conditioner. The condensate pump was not wired with the safety shut off, meaning when the pump (which has a 5-10 year expected service life) inevitably fails, it will likely cause a flood in my mechanical room. Calvey not only failed to install the necessary wiring for the safe operation of the condensing furnace, they also failed to correct this error when installing an air conditioner several years later. Further, some Calvey techs informed me they use 5% silver phos-copper brazing filler. Industry best practices are to use 15% silver phos-copper brazing filler because it has better flow characteristics, and lower odds of cracking with vibration/thermal expansion. 5% brazing filler is also often associated with the practice of "crowning" a joint, wherein rather than flowing braze into the joint, a crown is applied around the joint with very minimal penetration. I have not experienced a failure due to this, it is still a poor practice. Calvey did not follow industry best practices in the installation of my HVAC system. The electrical fire and subsequent damage to the entire 24v electrical system of my home, as well as the sub-optimal brazing alloy and improper condensate pump installation, I cannot in good conscience recommend this company for your next HVAC project. read more

Right during the holidays, our clothes dryer suddenly stopped working. I called Calvey, a company that had done excellent service for us 5 years ago. Joe P. went right to work, identifying that the problem was a major lint buildup in the dryer vent hose or duct between the dryer at the dryer vent. In no time, he solved the problem, gave us some helpful guidance about keeping the vent hose open, and was on his way. My AC system gave out during the summer and I needed it fixed asap. The installation has some complications since the indoor system is a pancake style system (a bit uncommon) and the condenser is deep inside the roof. I was put in contact with Michael and he explained what's needed before starting. I got the HOA approval and within half a week, a whole team arrived and replaced the AC in two days! I called for an appointment during the week between 8 and 5. Calvey said someone can come out at end of day, but it would be overtime at $275 an hr, instead of $175 an hr. I never heard of this before? I can understand paying overtime for maybe weekend or late at night, but why overtime during the day on a weekday? Calvey said the reason is that the technician would have already put in an 8 hr day. Be aware of these unethical practices by Calvey! read more

My daughter's 25 year old central heater was failing, so called Calvey.. Jared came out the next day to diagnose. He spent a good hour to determine that the gas valve wasn't working consistently - and charged only $175, which seemed very reasonable to me. He was professional, good at listening to and explaining things, personable - and recommended either trying to fix it, or because of the age of heater and a/c getting an estimate to replace. Michael Calvey came out the following day to give an estimate to replace either just the heater, or heater and a/c. He was knowledgable, friendly, efficient. We decided to go ahead and replace both systems because of their age, so a team of three came out the following week to do the installation. Once again they were very knowledgable, efficient, hard-working - had both systems replaced and connected back into the existing electronic dampers, thermostats, gas line, etc. within 6 hours. Perhaps most striking to me (beyond their competence) was how nice all three were - they seemed to enjoy their work, enjoy working with each other, engaging in conversation with me - the kind of guys you'd want to have a beer with. So, I would highly recommend Calvey for HVAC maintenance, repairs and installations - and will definitely use them again if I need HVAC work. read more
