The first thing they did right was to have Migas on the menu. The second thing they did right was to serve breakfast all day.

After considerable research and yelping, reading reviews of various restaurants and looking through their pictures, I chose this place to have breakfast because it looked like they had Migas, something I love but can't find in Arizona or California so I try to eat them when I get to Texas. I knew I was taking a little bit of a chance if they didn't have all day breakfast but I figured I'd find something else that would satisfy me and come back another day if I was too late. It was probably around 3 p.m. when I got here and fortunately for me the first thing I saw on the menu was breakfast served all day, the second thing was Migas for $5.99, a much better price than they had it for at La Fiesta Grande, which only serves them on the weekends, only till 2 p.m., and charges $8 for them. I decided to get some queso to go with my chips because the pictures of it looked good. The queso came first, and I nearly filled up on it because I hadn't eaten yet all day. Still, they gave me enough that I probably took half of it home and finished the next day. Their salsa was excellent with much better flavor than that which I had at La Fiesta. It had a good kick it didn't burn my mouth so I ate quite a bit of it but still had some to bring back to the motel that night. Their potatoes impressed me because they were obviously fresh-cut, you can't duplicate that texture with with frozen potatoes, almost like diced french fries, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. I usually try to stay away from potatoes and didn't even notice they came with the Migas but can't say I was sorry to eat them. They weren't over-salted either like so many fried potatoes are. The Migas were also delicious and the frijoles were very good. The service was excellent up till the end when I was ready for my bill and a to-go container. I think I waited 20 or 30 minutes for someone to finally check back with me so I could package up my leftovers and pay my bill. Fortunately I wasn't in a hurry so I just sat and played with my phone until I finally caught my girl's attention. Once she came over everything happened quickly and I was able to move on to my next activity. Would I go back here? Definitely! Would I recommend it to others? Absolutely!

The hot sauce is the best around town. With a good breakfast ,top it off with the Homeade tortillas. Tamales matadS is the go to.

The staff was friendly but did not provide the best service throughout our meal. We shared the combo beef and chicken fajitas for one. The chicken was cooked perfectly tender, juicy, and full of flavor. The beef was a little overdone, but the fresh, homemade corn and flour tortillas were absolutely fantastic and made the meal even better. We also ordered the Tacos de Birria (goat) with consommé, and they were delicious! The meat was incredibly flavorful, and they came with a small cup of sauce that added even more flavor just be prepared because it packs some serious heat! The chips and queso were just okay, but overall we really enjoyed it being a convenient stop on our road trip home. Not sure if we will stop again when in town.

Visiting my girlfriend and her family in Amarillo led me to trying some of their favorite places in…read morethe city. My girlfriend's mom was especially excited to take me to El Tejaven while I was visiting. This dinner was a celebration of my girlfriend's sister playing in the top All-Region orchestra. It has nothing to do with the food itself, but I want to mention it because she did a great job performing and I think it deserves to be remembered here. It is the reason we went in the first place. It was a busy night at El Tejaven before we arrived. A group of 32 was just wrapping up dinner. Thirty two people. At that point, just cater, dawg. It took about 20 minutes after arrival to get seated, but it likely would have been much quicker if it were not for a group that size. Once we were seated, we were served chips and salsa. The salsa was spicier than I was prepared for, but it was good. The chips were excellent as well. Most people at the table ordered margaritas on the rocks, while I got a dressed Dos Equis on draft. From what I tasted, the margaritas were solid. For appetizers, we ordered the small queso and the small ceviche. The queso was standard but good. The ceviche, on the other hand, was exceptional. I could have eaten a large bowl by myself. I was pretty hungry, so I ordered the Orden de Tacos, which comes with four tacos on corn tortillas. I got all of them with al pastor. I also added a side of rice and beans, which normally comes with the three taco order but can be added on for the four tacos. The tacos were very good and exactly what you want from street style al pastor, especially with the cilantro and onions. It comes out to roughly four dollars per taco if you do the math. The rice and beans were both great and I ate all of it easily. The plate also came with a side of guacamole that had a nice kick, which I enjoyed. Living in Austin with family in San Antonio, it is easy to find good and authentic Mexican food. That does not always seem to be the case in Amarillo, so it is nice to know there is at least one spot in the city that feels authentic and not overly gringoified. My girlfriend's family knows ball.
