The doctor, Kurdis came is for skin check but didn't look at my body. He said the patches on my skin were "getting old" I asked what it was and thats all I got. I had to come back I should never have..he didnt get insurance authorisation for my most obvious problem that was infected. He however did burn off my face blemish from the wrong side it dripped down my face burning my check as it ran down my face. I saw a Dan Perry.... he is a doctor new to this office that is what I was told so I could get an appointment quickly. Well I don't like the way I was treated but then doctors nowadays don't give you the time of day. This man turned his back while I was talking to him you know the little bit you get to talk to a doctor and he's talking to his assistant as she's writing something down. He was rude if I talked and said something that was against what he said and gosh it was just a horrible horrible visit I actually walked out because he wouldn't even check my head to feel for the pimples I had up there two pimples. I don't know it's getting worse and worse with doctors I guess he wasn't even gonna check my body for anything because I was all dressed up talking to him. But he looked like for sure he works out! He's about 28 years old to 34 something like that but his bedside manner is abhorrent. And then he basically didn't believe anything I said about my history with other drs. great Doctoring. Just finished my 3rd MOHS surgery and numerous pre cancer treatments using Medicare and Tricare. The Doc sees and administers to lots of we old people daily. His no nonsense approach gets the job done and I am alive today because of him and his staff. I am always treated with efficient respect and professional care and look forward to each visit knowing it will result in success if humanly, medically and technically possible. Carrie, the woman that did my skin cancer screening, was friendly and very thorough. It was a surprisingly pleasant experience considering I had read many of the very negative reviews. This office was great until it was not. After leaving an appt, I was sent an invoice in the mail for $5. Rather than paying over the phone with a credit card number or using a stamp to send it in, my plan was to pay at my next visit. Within 4 months of a $5 invoice being generated, I was sent to collections in attempt to collect the $5 and dismissed from the practice. When I called to follow up, I left multiple messages and never received a call back from the office manager. When I called to speak to the manager I was told that she would not talk to me, as I was dismissed from the practice for having an "outstanding bill". I am really disappointed with their lack of professionalism. Even if the ultimate answer would've been they would still dismiss me, the fact the manager would not talk to me is really disheartening. I work in the medical field and am extremely baffled by this situation. Moral of the story...maybe the office should collect all the money owed at the time of your visit rather than sending an invoice for $5 and then sending you to collections after 4 months. I did have a hard time getting an appointment because they have some phone system issues, but the staff was so kind and helpful to me and I wish I could remember their names so I could thank them personally. Expect to wait a very long time to be seen. From the amount of people that come into this office, you can tell that they overbook and make everyone wait. If you tell me my appointment is at 3pm and I'm not seen until 3:20 or even 3:30, okay fine. But they make you wait 45 min to an hour after your appt time!!! And this is not a one time thing. This has happened the last 2 times we've been here. Looking to find another dermatologist in the area. read more

I have been going to this office for years. I called to reschedule an appt and since it was within 24 hours of my scheduled appt they are considering it a "No show" and charging me a $100 "No-show" fee. I work in the medical field and if we treated our patients like this we wouldn't have any patients - hence why I will not be returning to this office. I'm not one to post reviews, but felt I had to state what poor patient care this office is giving. If you have an appointment, don't get sick or need to reschedule for any reason because it will cost you! read more

Dr. Kurgis is a highly skilled (and busy) dermatologist. I've been going there for years and he is always attentive to any skin problem and proactive in treating them. I have developed several skin problems in the last few years and Dr. Kurgis has been very adept at treating them. He has a lot of knowledge and experience, so I trust his judgment. There is no BS, just competent and quality medical care. Yes, sometimes you have to wait past your appointment time, but this is common with all doctors. It's part of the business of being a doctor. There's all a lot of patients and a lot of variables. Dr. Kurgis is efficient, but he doesn't cut corners. Office staff have always been courteous and helpful. Highly recommended. read more

I went to Dr. Kurgis to have a suspicious blemish evaluated. He said it needed to be removed right then. He didn't numb the area enough. I said it hurt, but he kept cutting. Then he removed a skin tag by cutting it out from the underside. Skin tags are supposed to be snipped off from the skin at the attached spot. This is the correct method. Skin tags don't hurt or bleed when removed by a snip by scissors. He left a gaping bloody hole. The wound bled through the bandaid in less than minute. He left the room stating I was finished with the treatment. By the time I went to the front desk to sign out, my dress was soaked in blood and there was a puddle forming on the floor. Carrie-Anne had to clean up his mess. Not once did he ask if I was in pain and when I share my concern the the suspicious blemish ( it was on my scalp and my hair is thinning with some small bald spots), will leave a bigger scar and a more noticeable bald spot, he blew me off. The blemish turned out to be a Basal Cell Cancer and I got a call stating I HAD to have Mohs surgery. I am Not letting him do that surgery, he will probably make a bigger scar that can't be minimized. I know of other negative reviews of his being too rough, dismissive, poor bedside manner, and not asking the patient if they are in pain. Based on my experience, I would not be willing to grant him a one star review. read more

I am sitting in the lobby for my first appointment and so far I am really disappointed. I am ok with waiting during these crazy times, that's not my issue today. I am a new patient so you would think that the front office staff would be nicer, not the case. Very, very RUDE!!! I am listening to their personal conversations which include curse words. No regard for me or the 2 other very elderly people in the lobby. Who both look horrified, by the way. Jessica, the medical assistant took me into the room and she was super nice. She asked all the general questions before the doctor came in and was wonderful. As I sit waiting for the doctor I can hear the staff talking bad about the last couple of patients to leave. I was referred to Kurgis by my primary, I will not be going back. His behavior was dismissive and bizarre. I have long been experiencing mysterious and painful "rashes". Recent blood work showed levels that may indicate something auto immune related. Kurgis comes in the room, no mask, tells me to take off mine. Ok, he's going to examine my skin, but why isn't he wearing a mask when the other staff (all women) are? I tell him my stories and show him my blood work results. He disagrees that my issues are auto immune. He tells me that I should take antihistamines, and proceeds to demonstrate histamines in my skin BY SCRATCHING AN X INTO MY FOREARM WITH A BALL POINT PEN. It was so unnecessary, and it hurt! I don't know why I didn't speak up at the time. I guess as a patient, I was feeling vulnerable, wanted relief, and just wanted to be polite. I can tolerate the pompous behavior from doctors if they can deliver results... Maybe I was just in the wrong place? Their website is all about cosmetic procedures. I accompanied an elderly friend to Dr Kurgis for a routine appointment because my friend was suffering from dementia. A few months later we received a letter in the mail saying he was being dismissed as a patient due to nonpayment of a $30 bill. Thinking this a mistake (since a bill was never received and the amount was nominal) I called on behalf of my friend. I was really surprised at how abruptly this was handled by the front desk! Just "he didn't pay, he's no longer a patient here!" I tried to explain the following: 1) he never received the bill, (I monitored all mail) 2) he never received a phone call re the bill! 3) I had asked if anything was due at the last appt and was told no. 4) I also explained it was unreasonable to dismiss a recently widowed 90 year old so quickly WITH DEMENTIA who had been a client for over 15 years! But the response was the same. Sad for my friend, he was really confused by the whole thing. I tried explaining it to him but he just kept saying, "no, there's been some mistake he (dr Kurgis) is my friend. He wouldn't do that!" I tried calling and explaining how upsetting this was for him but they didn't care- at all. The day after all of these phone conversations he received an auto generated phone reminder for our upcoming appointment!!! Then another a few months later. Seriously? They are too busy processing payments to check that sort of thing I guess. Later we determined a family member had intercepted the bill. Again, I tried explaining to the office what happened and that since the family member lived out of town it was just a misunderstanding. Nope! The whole experience leaves me wondering if the real reason was something else? Didn't like dealing with his insurance (a senior advantage plan), didn't like dealing with a elderly client with dementia? Or just down right that cold and greedy despite all the circumstances??!! - "you didn't pay your bill, your done!" We left the practice at went to Plateroti where we had a better experience across the board! read more

I'm not sure what all of these negative reviews are about, but from start to finish, we had an amazing experience at this office. My son is almost 10 months old and has a large hemangioma on his neck. Our insurance changed and we were booked at this office, and I was disappointed because of the negative reviews. So glad that I did not listen to them! The front office staff was so nice and so sweet to my little boy. We only waited five minutes to be seen, if that. We saw the physicians assistant, I believe -- I can't remember her name, so sorry -- and she was competent, caring, and informative. The office is clean and easy to find. 5/5 stars. read more

Dr. Kurgis is the best dermatologist I've been treated by. I am fair skinned with very blond hair and as a result of that and other genetic things and years in the sun - my skin is a mess. Actually, I'm embarrassed of all the damage on my face. After my appointment with Dr. Kurgis, I had hope that he and Kelly could help to repair my skin. I've been seeing them maybe once a year for a few years and my skin is better than I ever expected. I applaud Dr. Kurgis' diagnostic skills, his willingness to take on a "tough case", his attitude that he doesn't know it all and ask for consultation with other office staff and lastly the helpfulness of his staff. This review is strictly for their PA Chrissy. She is lovely, compassionate, and thorough. I had brutal all over body hives and she wrote out a step by step of products to buy, the prescriptions I was to pick up, and when to take/use said products/Rx's. She also didn't just assume anything and really investigated what caused the hives and other potential causes which would result in different treatment plan. I've had no issues with the staff. They laugh at my awkward jokes, so they're alright in my book. I've not seen nor met Dr. K, but will admit that the horror story reviews on him scared me and made me nervous to go into his office. But, luckily there is a GIANT poster of Larry/Gary/Jerry Gergich's beautiful wife Gayle smiling back at you insisting that you'll be as happy as she is once you get some kind of laser skin resurfacing procedure. They should have a zero stars option. Got referred to them by my primary care went out of my to get off of work for this appointment I wait for a month for just to be seen for 5 minutes. They didn't know why I was there when I had a patient file and asked how to look for psoriasis by the DOCTOR. Very dismissive didn't care what I had to say or any empathy and very cold place. Asked for a refund or how to file a claim for the refund of my copay left tons of voicemails for the office manager didn't even bother to give me a call back. AVOID THIS PLACE. It's taken me years to do this post, I had seen Kurgis years ago. I can still remember the lady at the front desk with red hair, I was told she was the office Manager. She was speaking in a Loud, rude tone to clients checking in. She was obviously stressed and not managing it well. During my visit with Kurgis he would do 2 biopsies on my arm. He did them rather deep. I would become infected where he made those incisions and called back to be seen. When returning, Kurgis was going to give me an antibiotic topical ointment. I assured him this needed to be handled more systemically as there was green ooze and the wounds were bubbling up. He assured me it should clear up with the ointment. As I checked out, I was met with that same red haired office manger lady. I had my 3yr old little son with me at the time. She had a raised tone and was speaking again to someone very confrontationally. So as I waited to be checked out with her, I was not at ease. She handled me just the same. This women clearly needed to take a leave of absence and manage her stress. That night both my incisions were incredibly hot and seemed to get worse. I had to call my Dr. the next day to get an antibiotic. Kurgis should have written a script for an antibiotic and not a topical cream. He also cut me far too deep, he butchered my right upper arm. I formed two painful keloids from those deep incisions over the next 4-6months. I went back to be seen at Platerotti's to see about keloid, scar revision. Those keloids made me self conscious about my arms, I would cover them up with bandaids. They also formed slowly and painfully, which I've never experienced before. That office surely failed me and they need to do better- maybe they are now. I wouldn't know, as I would never return after my experience. read more

I am beyond dissatisfied by Dr Kurgis and his Staff. I had a facial yesterday and bought several products for my skin. I was not inexpensive. I got home and opened the bag to see that one of the face creams had a warning sticker that said "this product contains a chemical know to cause CANCER." Why a dermatologist would sale such a product is beyond me. This morning I went back and asked to return the UNOPENED product for something else (less than 24 hours after purchasing it). My first visit revealed that Dr. Kurgis is a "10 minute doctor". It was my first visit and I expected him to give me a quick body evaluation to detect my skin problems. Instead, he came in, looked at my face, picked up medical instrument and blasted me in the face 4 times almost hitting my left eye with frozen nitrogen. He then walked out telling me to make an appointment for 3 weeks from then. That appointment was at 10:30 am this morning. I arrived a little after 10:15 and was checked in. As I was waiting, a man walked in at 10:55 and told the receptionist that he had an appointment with Dr. Kurgis at 11:00 and was immediately taken to a room after I had waited for almost 45 minutes. I complained and was told that that person was scheduled for a surgery. I replied asking why I was then scheduled at 10:30 when another patient would have preference. Her reply was that she could re-schedule me. I left disgusted with my entire experience with Dr. Kurgis. read more

I really don't like leaving poor reviews but I feel it's necessary. One office staff member is so rude I am considering switching to another dermatologist. I can understand if you're having a bad a day; but I have witnessed the same lady be rude to other people in the office and both times that I called I was ridiculed for 1.) calling because I had a referral even though they said they don't call new patients (ok, cool don't have to be so rude about it); and 2.) I just called today to reschedule because I wasn't feeling well and she said "you know that's going to be a no show. You're calling the same day." It wasn't what she said it was how she said it. Like I was back in junior high getting scolded by my teachers for forgetting my homework. Very rude tone. I had called and made an appointment with Dr. Kurgis (specifically) for an unusual growth on my nose and for a "skin exam/check". I have had basal cell skin cancer before and my last skin check was 2 years ago. I was surprised when I was seen by Antonia the Nurse Practitioner instead of Dr. Kurgis. It seems she barely passed the legal age to drink alcohol. The skin check was a joke. Antonia did not even have magnifying glasses to check my skin.....my clothes were on and were not requested to be removed. After 5 minutes and my clothes still on the exam was done. This nurse or this clinic has no clue how to do a skin check and take the time they need to with patients. I have had skin cancer before, skin cancer runs in my family as well as other types of cancers, and I have not seen a dermatologist in 2 years. You would think they would be going over me with a fine tooth comb but I guess not. So in summary if you want to half a real quick skin exam with your clothes on go here....and hope that you don't have a melanoma under your bra! My advice to Dr. Kurgis.......I sure hope you have hefty malpractice insurance.....I believe you will be using this very soon. read more

I hate writing this review but I think it is necessary. My daughter has been a client of this office for 2 years. Their patient/doctor relationship is nonexistent, the worst, and so is the appointment scheduling and time management. We were the first appointment of the day...the receptionist told us that and after sitting in the exam room for over 1 hour had to leave. As we were leaving the gals in the back said good-bye thanks, They didn't even realize we had never been seen. They were very busy gossiping about their private lives. I don't think they realize how thin the doors are in the back office, We heard them talking about clients and their personal lives. So unprofessional. It was a school day and I had work, I had left an hour and a half for the appointment in our schedule. When we have been lucky enough to see the doctor or NP they have never spent more than 5 minutes with us. They always look at us like we have never met..the first 2 minutes of the exam are re-reading my daughters chart. So strange and very dehumanizing..to top it all off...they have not been able to help my daughters condition. It is with sadness I share this review with you...I know the doctor out of the office and he is a nice guy...just runs a sad business. I had my 2 year old son with me at that visit aMs was mortified. The office was extremely busy and she didn't manage her stress well. As for Dr. Kurgis, he butchered my arm leaving massive scarring. Truly a wonderful experience. Even after hearing not so nice things, I decided to call anyway because I had also heard that Dr. Kurgis was the best. My 9 y/o son had a sudden change in a mole on his chest that looked suspicious and worrisome. The pediatrician was not sure where to send us because he figured it would take a month to see a dermatologist, but no one would see him to remove it unless it was biopsied first. So I called Dr. Kurgis' office and was told they could have us in a week with the P.A., okay not a month, good! After talking to my husband and a friend who suggested I mention my son's age and the concern we had I called back and spoke to Heather. She was really nice and re-looked at the schedule but the one we got was the last one of the week. She said I could come in and wait to see Dr. Kurgis on a double or triple book, but that could take a few hours of waiting and I did not want my son to have to sit that long and miss school. Then she said to call back Monday or Tuesday to see if there were any cancellations so we could come in sooner. I called first thing when they opened Tuesday morning (I had the flu over the weekend or would have tried Monday) and was told by Kristina(?) that they could get me in at 10 because the P.A. had a cancellation. We go there, filled out the paperwork and maybe waited another 15 minutes before we were called back. The nurse/M.A. was really nice to my son and I heard her even mention how cute he was to someone when she left. :) Then Douglas Williams the P.A. came in and was so easy going with my son and put him at ease. Douglas looked at the concern, told us what he thought it looked like, offered to remove it if my son was up for it and would have it tested. My son decided he did not want to have to come back so he did as he was told and both the nurse and P.A. thought he did great! And when it was over and he mentioned he was a little "fuzzy" in the tummy (from nerves) he was brought crackers and apple juice! Now we wait for the results, but it sounds like they will be negative for anything. Thank you to the staff at Dr. Kurgis' office for being so kind to my son and making him feel relaxed and comfortable. I think I have found a new dermatologists' office for myself too! read more

Chad York, my new Dermatologist at Kurgis Dermatology is great! I had been on medication for my Psoriasis for years, having moved from Silicon Valley to Paso Robles recently. I come to find the medication I was on tears up some internal organs, and was the harshest for severe Psoriasis. I had cleared up 90%, but was never given any warnings. Dr. York immediately said we need to change meds, but I was being given the runaround between insurance, co-pay, and the manufacturer. He went to bat for me, doing the leg work to make it happen, and now there is light at the end of the tunnel. He takes the time to hear what you say, very down to earth, and is genuine. A true change from where I was living for many years, and a truly comforting feeling while there. read more

Called to make sure they could do a specific procedure. They assured us they did that procedure. Husband went in. Waited for the Dr (Chad). Dr. came in and says that they in fact do NOT do the procedure. Husband wasted 45 minutes, saw the Dr just long enough to be told that the receptionist was incorrect about the procedure. And yet, we received a bill for $100. A receptionist said that she didnt think he should be charged but the doctor insisted. Will not be returning, what a waste of time. And the fact that we were billed despite the screw up being on their end is atrocious. read more
