Then lockdown hit, and my daughter taught herself how to twist and braid her hair. Thank goodness she took on my mane as well because I was a mess!! Right after it was safe to see our dear stylist again, carpal tunnel took her out, sadly. Once again, my daughter came through. She had gotten tired of twists and was ready for a weave. Now in college and a mature consumer, she immersed herself in Yelp reviews in search of a stylist. She read good things about Monique at Sola and made her appointment. I was so proud of her when called me from the parking lot, nervous, but taking control, once again, of her beauty regimen. She loved Monique, and the results were gorgeous. So, mama, also tired of twists, followed her lead once again and made my own appointment. Monique is the quintessential professional. I asked her advice ahead of our time together and she was patient, giving me an excellent referral for weave hair. Her salon is spotless, serene and full of light. Your time is your time, and you aren't rushed. No other customers are sitting by, competing for a service. Not because she isn't booked solid, but because she is considerate. Monique listens intently, helping to resolve any issues you mention. I have never had someone be so gentle with my scalp. She braided and sewed me up, quickly and efficiently. All of the places I found had any combination of the following problems: kids running around, braider shows up late, outrageous prices, sloppy work, etc. Ugh! Fellow braider wearers - I know you feel my pain! This braiding experience was the exact opposite of all of that! Having Ashley braid my hair was simply put - an experience. You always want your hair stylist to be someone easy-going and friendly (especially when getting braids since you're normally there for a few hours) and Ashley was all of that and more. She's totally personable and took the time to ask me exactly what I wanted - length, style, part, etc. I got long (middle of the back) individuals. They're small, virtually weightless for the amount of hair, incredibly neat (seriously, I look at them everyday and ask "How can you still be so beautiful!?"), and secure (but not tight - how does she do it?!). They took about 5 hours total (including dipping to secure the ends) and cost $125 - incredibly decently priced!! I also had the chance to see more of Ashley's work (it's displayed in the salon and on the website) and I'm excited to go back to her in a few months and try something new. Keratin, ombre, the options are endless! The salon is super fresh and beautiful. There's a tv, but they don't blast it like lots of other salons. After that, the staff started discussing something among themselves, and the braider working on my hair left. I assumed she would return, but after waiting about 35 minutes, I was informed that she had left because the salon owner felt she was too slow and decided to split the job between two braiders. According to what I was told, she became upset and left. By that point, I had already been at the salon for 1 hour and 30 minutes. I continued waiting, trying to decide what to do, until I had been there for a full 2 hours. I then explained that it was already 4:00 p.m. and that I had no intention of staying at the salon later than 8:00 p.m. This was exactly why I had mentioned from the beginning that I have a lot of hair. Instead, I was told to wait another 30 minutes to an hour for a different braider to arrive before they could even begin the service. The fact that the hair had already been sectioned and prepared was not my responsibility, but the owner kept saying that just to keep me in the store waiting. This entire situation demonstrated a lack of preparation and professionalism on the part of the salon management. The owner already knew the amount of hair I have and the type of service required, yet assigned me to someone she herself described as being too slow for the job. As a result, I spent over two hours at the salon without the service even beginning and ultimately left frustrated after wasting half of my day.

I've been getting my hair braided for years and have never had to return on a second day to finish a basic braid style. To make matters worse, my braids are already slowly falling out. When I contacted the salon about the poor workmanship and requested a refund, they refused to take any responsibility. This salon appears to be severely understaffed. Employees were late or didn't show up, appointments were not managed properly, and customers are left paying the price with their time and money. Save yourself the frustration. Spending over 12 hours for unfinished braids, having to return the next day, and then watching the braids fall out shortly afterward is completely unacceptable. There are too many talented braiders out there to waste your time and money here.
