I am sooo happy I found Dr. Hana. I can't even imagine that anyone can be better at this than she is. I am completely amazed by the insight she provides just by looking at brain waves and the way she interprets it. She is able to address every aspect of health (physical, mental, spiritual etc) and is able to see what is going on in your whole body, not just your brain. Also she can nip problems in the butt before they become a problem. The last time I saw her, she warned me about some health problems I am at risk of getting (and WHY), and what I can do to PREVENT it. Prevention is key. She gets to the ROOT of the problem. Sometimes we think the SYMPTOMS are problems but there is an underlying cause that may be easily treatable, even things that we have accepted thinking it will just stay that way forever. Just the awareness of the root of the problem is sometimes enough to heal. For example, I was really forgetful. She made me realize some deeper issues and I remembered a specific time when I told myself (when I was a teen) that I will just make myself forget (a certain event), not knowing that I actually trained my brain to forget, even the things I wanted to remember. So being aware of the root cause, I was able to train my brain back to not be forgetful anymore. She has also helped me in other areas, like helping me making sense of a complicated and confusing relationship I used to be in. Oh! I literally feel like I have my life back on track-- it took some work and repeated sessions though. I had been dealing with issues at work and school and so decided to give Dr. Hana a try (a Groupon had alerted me to Brain Fitness Hawaii). In order to feel confident about the therapy, I went as far as to search and read third-party research on Brain Fitness Training and it seemed legit as it had helped PTSD folks. My first session I was nervous but Dr. Hana was very kind and helped me feel comfortable in my orientation. I'll be honest to say that I didn't really feel a difference in my first run. I learned later that a typical treatment takes about 10 sessions to make a change (but for some people the work can be faster). It was pretty remarkable, I was able to regain an ability to focus and ability to work after having been pretty locked-up and depressed about school and work. I had previously tried different supplements, diets, even ADD meds (I didn't like what they did to my body and I didn't like the side effects) and this was something that worked for me. I ended up getting results and I wanted to go through more with Dr. Hana! So, something even more important happened when I went back a for a second series. I wanted to go for weight loss as I had always struggled with it. What she was able to find in my brain wave profile was something that helped me realize that my constant weight wasn't all my fault: I likely had hypo-thyroid (where the system is depressed, your cravings fluctuate and you can't seem to lose weight). Oh. That's why my mood fluctuated with different foods and also my energy. It was directly impacting the hormones in my body. If this were left untreated, I likely would develop inflammatory, heart problems and diabetes later in life. Hana Yin is one of those rare practitioners who consistently goes above and beyond the call in ensuring the well-being of those in her care. I was fortunate to find Brain Fitness on the web at least 5 years ago when searching for help with life-long intermittent periods of anxiety and moderate depression and was able to participate in a one-week intensive brain fitness training. By the end of the week, I was feeling depression free and very relieved to know that there is a truly effective remedy for these problems. Over a year later, when beginning to feel a bit down again, I contacted Hana again and received a few sessions of neurofeedback which again helped achieve a sense of balance and wellbeing. In my son's Junior year of high school I searched for answers to help him. At the time, my teenager was struggling at school--having difficulty concentrating, completing assignments and was moody and distant. Calls from his teacher sent this mother into panic mode. Sadly, I had an awful customer service experience with this company. After speaking directly with the doctor, I informed her of the Groupon promotion for trying out one of the services offered by the clinic. Immediately she make the entire situation uncomfortable and unprofessional stating that the Groupon deal shouldn't be on the website. Then after discussing it briefly, she actually coaxed me into purchasing the Groupon instead of dealing directly with me. Once I went through this hassle and tentatively confirmed an appointment time and date, she later stated that there was no availability after all. I read about Brain Fitness Hawaii and was immediately interested. I even called early in the morning to leave a message to find out more. A few minutes later Dr.Hana called me back and answered all of the questions I had. She was so professional and willing to share all of the information I sought. I couldn't wait to go to my first meeting the next Saturday. At this meeting (assessment) I decided to have the 5 day 2X a day intensive sessions. My right brain and my left brain were not balanced and this is something that needed to be addressed. I wanted to work on my cognitive functions (big exam coming up), by subconscious (fear and worry), and my sleep and basic function. Over the period of November 14th - 18th, 2011, I had 10 sessions and immediately felt more focused, had more energy, and had a calming effect take over. This was a complete waste of time and money that could have been spent on something that actually works. You'd be better off spending the thousands of dollars it costs to undergo this "treatment" on something like a luxury vacation or doing something you'd actually enjoy and benefit from. This procedure has absolutely no physical mechanism of action, unlike herbs or brain stimulation, and is purely placebo meaning that it is up to you, the patient, the convince yourself that it worked. Be warned, while Hana may appear caring and enthusiastic on the surface, she is actually a New Age peddler who will either purposely or subconsciously exacerbate the fear and paranoia in her patients with suggestions of aliens, demons, bad karma, and things of the sort while promising you can ascend to the 5th dimension through her process. This CANNOT be good for anyone suffering from schizophrenia or someone with a vulnerable perception of reality. As for the treatment itself, it consisted primarily of listening to binaural beats paired with videos of nature, all of which were taken from Youtube (probably without the consent of the owners/uploaders). You could literally go on Youtube and find the exact same videos WITHOUT being charged $1,500 to watch them by simply searching "binaural beats". If that's not a rip-off, I don't know what is. You will also have to put up with having a myriad of EEG electrodes attached to your head which merely read your brainwaves but do nothing to alter them as far as I can tell, so how this would do anything to cure a state of illness is beyond me. I must have been drunk when I signed up for this. If you decide to proceed, expect to sit in a chair for hours on end, day after day with sticky electrodes on your head listening to "magical healing frequencies" while being programmed with harassing thoughts of having bad karma or being followed by ascended masters. Not even the best insurance will cover you for this quackery and you will have to pay everything out of pocket. You can read the response she left for another unsatisfied reviewer where she labels her patient as "angry and mad". Be warned. There are lots of New Age snake-oil salesmen these days. Dr. Hana asked me to come with a list of 5 things I'd like to address during our 5 day intensive. I think I came with more than 10 things, from trying to figure out what I was going to do to make a living, to daily migraine headaches, to constant anxiety, negative thinking, memory loss and nightmares. On the second to the last session, Dr. Hana went down the list and asked if the things on the list were any better....I reported "no, not much better". There were times when I was frustrated and really doubted the process, (probably due to an imbalanced brain). During the last session I had such an opening of the heart that everything on the list was deeply healed. I just knew it. I felt powerful, unafraid of the future, loved and loving. Something profound happened and I know that I will never be the same again.
