Ripped off. Unnecessary work added to my service. I went in for a routine maintenance as per manufacturer's schedule (should have been nothing more than an oil change). After taking my vehicle in, the representative from Brake Masters phoned me to explain that there was excessive carbon build up on my spark plugs and recommended they be replaced along with a fuel injection. I had taken my vehicle in a year ago for a major maintenance which already included replacement of the spark plugs and a fuel injection. I questioned the representative further to explain what the underlying problem could be with the car causing this, but he couldn't provide a reasonable or logical explanation. Beware of these additional service items they bring to your attention and shop around. Only plus I can say about this place is they answered their phones timely and were generally professional to deal with (aside from the questionable upselling of services). read more

Love this place. I was so surprised to see Larry there when I walked into the shop. I used to go to the store on Hayden, but I called today to see how long the wait time will be at the Hayden location, they said about 2 hours, then I called this store and Larry answered the phone letting me know the wait time is only about an hour. Came in today thinking I may need a new brake service down since it has been so long, according to Larry's technicians, I had about 10% left on my brake pads, rotors are still okay, so not a big deal there. Larry offered me a discount as I always take my cars (3 of them at home) to BM for all brakes need. He truly care about his customers and will do whatever necessary to get the job down. One great thing about this company is that they offer you Free Wi-Fi within their shops. Password is display at their counter or just any one of them for those info, they got nothing to hide. I'll make this quick and simple. I went into Brake masters convinced that I needed my rear brakes replaced. They were squeaky and I looked at what I thought were the pads. I thought they were on the last bit of padding and I was about to take a trip to California with my two kids, so I was ready to replace them. I talked to the guy at the front desk in a matter of 20 minutes, they checked all the brakes, replaced some fluids, and checked all tire pressure for my trip. Now here's the kicker I told them I needed brakes and they could have easily come back and told me the same. However, I didn't need brakes , they replaced some fluids and checked my tire pressure and they didn't ask for a penny! This I realize is unusual and I kind of wanted to give them something. But really they are just a stand up business. I finally found an honest place to take all my vehicles! read more

It was a Saturday, labor day weekend, and I heard a loud pop in my engine, after that, my steering went out. I was right near brake masters at the time, so I went there. Turned out that my harmonic balancer went. The guys at the shop checked it out, showed me a diagram of exactly what happened, and the labor that will be involved to fix it. Needless to say, I had a perfectly running jeep in about 2 hours. The guys were extremely nice, and didn't try to "take me." A lot of car repair places would do that if they saw a woman coming. So my VW dealer tells me I need an expensive complete brake job for my 2011 Touareg with 75k miles on it. So I called Pat at Brake Masters (10620 N. Scottsdale Rd, Scottsdale, AZ), who bids a reasonable price and I make an appointment for after he can retrieve the special parts. The next day, I drop the car off and return an hour later to find that my brakes didn't need replacing. Pat called off the job and saved me a bundle as I still had 60% left on the rear and 45% remaining on the front brake pads. I can't speak to the quality of Brake Masters' work but if its anything like their integrity it will be first rate. read more

I was travelling southbound on Scottsdale Rd with a worrisome clunking coming from my left front brake every time I hit the pedal. I was a little apprehensive about stopping at BM, as I usually go to the same shops near my house. I pulled in and a mechanic was parking a vehicle next to me. He took a quick look and told me to check in at the desk and he'd look into the issue. Ed, the manager, helped me inside. To make the story short, these guys took a good look at the problem, diagnosed it immediately, fixed it promptly and pointed out another less-critical issue that I would want to keep an eye on. They charged me a fair price for the repair and I left feeling pretty darn good about the service and integrity of the shop. If you're considering them, I'd give them a thumbs up! read more

I had been coming here for 15 years and am never going back. In 2014 I had terrible work done by an employee that was later fired. I had gone back several times and each time I was told it was fine, until the time the employee was actually fired and the staff told me they'd fix what he had done for no charge (as it was their fault/bad work the company had done). This was when I was told that he was fired and heard the story of why. I've still had a persistent issue which I was told a several times was nothing to worry about until I heard a metal on metal noise. Now the issue that was nothing before has a $400+ bill. The only part that isn't working is one that was "fixed" initially by the fired employee, that I had complained about several times only to be told not to worry and that is was nothing. It was at this point that I was given the number of Tim Harthant at the corporate office, whom I called. During the course of our conversation he lied to me about the former manager getting fired (specifically told me he moved on to another position and was not fired, which I know for a fact is not true) and told me that since I had already received a credit for them initially fixing the bad work, I couldn't get a second one to finish fixing what they had broken. Keep that in mind when they tell you that you have a warranty. They can just decide to not honor it. I was told by the people there that looked at my car that they could tell shotty work was done and the history showed that the guy that was fired did what he had been doing and "got me out of the shop and swept it under the rug". I'll say what most everyone in these reviews is saying with the addition of one giant caveat. Al and Pat are great, but their hands are tied by corporate. When I spoke to corporate, Tim Harthant didn't listen to me, he only waited to talk, and told me a blatant lie which makes me really wonder what else he is dishonest about. Places like this only exist because people don't want to do the 5 minutes of work to find an actual mechanic with lower prices that does better work, and actually stands by it. read more

I have been in a few times the last couple years to get my brakes checked thinking that they must be due for replacement. Al has sent me on my way both times stating they are fine. Most places would not do that. (for some reason I have miracle brakes on my truck) I went in for an oil change a few days ago..they had me in and out quickly. They also did a small repair for me at no charge. Nice to know these guys are around. I will be back for sure. If these brakes ever need replacing, Al and team already have that business secured. Update. Last visit they said I needed a power steering flush and fuel system service. Sadly, the power steering pump now seems to be going bad. It was not making any noise before their service. Started to "whine" after. Brought it back and they said everything was fine. It got worse. Brought to a different shop and they found lots of debris in the system so it seems like the service from Brake Masters was not done properly. The fuel service they did seems to now cause hard starting Very sad as I have had really good luck there so far. I think I'll just stick to oil changes there. Maybe breaks. Not sure now. read more

Came here for MECHANICAL work after getting quotes form multiple other places. I had an expensive (labor) fix on my actuator that allows my lexus too switch from hot to cool air. I've been putting it off because my quote was $500-$100 elsewhere. Theses guys were honest, quick, and very flexible with scheduling. About an hour and half after dropping my car off, it was finished with a labor cost of only $110. I didn't even need the new part!! Amazing they saved me hundreds, because they were HONEST. We had issues fixing some of my brake-related problems resulting in multiple trips to the store, but they were patient with the issue. I went here because my friend said this is where she went her last time for an oil change. Within minutes of driving away after my oil change, my brakes were squishy. I pulled over and checked my brake fluid level. It was significantly lower than when I had brought in my vehicle. I filled up the brake fluid with the appropriate fluid type and number. It took a couple of fills to get the air bubbles out. I told my friend about my experience. She said she was lucky because Brake Masters found she needed a new master cylinder after her oil change because her brakes got mushy. She said I probably needed one too. After I filled my brake fluid reservoir, I never had any more mushy brakes. My friend got ripped off and they tried to rip me off too. Good thing my Dad was a race car mechanic and taught his daughter well. read more

Be informed and get a second opinion. I've had a Jekyll and Hyde experience with this shop. Had brakes replaced a couple of years ago and had a good experience, fair price and good work. Last week I took the same vehicle in because I was having issues with the brakes I had replaced here a couple of years ago. Totally different experience. I was over quoted by $400. I had the work completed at a great, trusted local repair shop instead. There were a couple of issues that these guys got right on the quote, but they added $400 of unnecessary work to the quote. As a girl, it's always intimidating to take my car into a repair shop. My brakes were squeaking, so I figured I should probably take it in. They called and patiently explained the the problem and their best recommendation to solve it. It was about $500, which was not what I was prepared to spend at that time. He sense my hesitation, and offered up a secondary option - not a complete fix, but something that will get me by for another 10,000 miles safely and only cost about $150. I appreciated the honesty and ethical problem solving. After handing me the keys, they also suggested a few other repairs and gave me quotes. I totally appreciated that the additional suggested services were conveyed after I had the keys in my hand, so it wasn't like they were holding my car hostage and pressuring me to make these repairs. Now, with quotes in hand, I can price out the job at other places. However, with the honesty and integrity that Brake Masters served me with at this location, I will mostly likely head back to Brake Masters. read more

I took my 2011 Nissan Frontier in for front brake pads, as it was making loud squeaking noise in the morning. I believe I spoke with Larry. I left my car off and Larry called me back telling me the brakes still had 50 percent life left and changing the pads was not necessary for safety. What a pleasant shock to find such an honest establishment, especially in the auto repair business. I guess the technician must have cleaned my rotors while inspecting, because the squeak is gone...and all for no charge. I had taken other vehicles to the same location for brakes and other services and have never been disappointed with their service. read more

With the utmost gratitude I give Al and his team 5 stars, I will never take my car anywhere else. These guys went above and beyond when they were unpleasantly surprised with a pair of rusted calipers today. They could've given up when they couldn't get the calipers apart and couldn't find replacement calipers. They could've given up when they couldn't get the calipers apart after heating them up to red hot. They could've given up when red hot projectiles went flying from the calipers. They could've given up when after they finally got the calipers apart they couldn't find replacement rubber seals for the ones that were melted off. But, they never gave up; in Al's words, "That won't work, I've got a customer that can't be without a car for 3-5 days waiting for parts." Never taking no for an answer, Al and his team found the rubber replacements from an old source, put the freshly greased calipers with new pads back on the car before the end of the work day, never charging me more than the cost in parts. At the beginning of the day when Al gave me the estimate for the work, after the free brake inspection but before knowing what relentless evil lay in wait for them, he said the final price would be,"not a penny more than the estimate." And, by god, if the final price wasn't just $10 more than the estimate, after a half-days' extra labor and what I'm sure was the source of many swear words. I don't know why I got so lucky to have ended up at Al's Brake Masters today, but I am so thankful I did. In a business climate where everyone's afraid to think for themselves and will opt to do what's profitable rather than what's right, my faith in humanity was redeemed by the actions of these hard-working men. Good for them and good for Brake Masters for creating a place where men like Al and his team could help others. I'll be taking my car to Al's Brake Masters from now on, even though they might wish I wouldn't :) read more
