They even found my radiator was leaking, which Jiffy Lube suggested I replace, but here they didn't charge me $300 or $600 like JL wanted to. They seem very honest and courteous. I don't normally give high reviews but am confident enough to refer others here without hesitation for an honest repair shop. I have always received courteous, fast and overall positive experiences. I've taken my 2 vehicles here a few times for suspension work, a check engine light and AC service check over the past 5 years here in Tempe. When I had trouble with my AC they didn't even charge me the refill and testing fee when it turned out my whole system was not working and holding any AC coolant. The suspension work was competitively priced with other area shops but I trusted them to do the work. Customer service was great. Spoke with Steve on the phone the night before and made a 7:30am appointment to have my brakes inspected. Arrived at 7:30 the nest morning and I was taken care of immediately by Steve. My front brakes were shaking when I applied them at a high rate of speed. I felt the rotors were warped and have some experience with brakes so I felt confident that was the problem. Josh was the mechanic who worked on my care. As I suspected the brake shoes still has some life in them, but the front rotors were warped and fell below the specs of cutting. Josh explained to me that the rotors needed to be replaced but it would probably make sense to replace now instead of coming in in a few months. The decision was left to me. The back rotors also needed to be cut and that was free. All in all it was truthful professional service. My son is an ASU student and it is nice to know I have a shop I can count on in the area. read more

Just went in for an alignment, something I do every year just for prevention sake. Rocky at the front desk was super friendly and got me in and out in 40 minutes without an appointment. Turns out all they had to do was turn a wrench a tiny bit- so Josh (the Manager) didn't charge me a penny! I was fully prepared to pay the standard $70 for my 4-wheel drive truck and I would have without question. I am a Taxi Cab owner operator. I have been for several years. Furthermore I am a 61 yr. old former jet engine mechanic. I have had occasion to do much of my own mechanic work on my vehicles over my life time. The foregoing is just to offer my qualifications and general knowledge of the mechanical aspects of automobiles. I have been taking my vehicles, both taxis and personal, to Brake Masters for some time now mostly for the convenience and the fact that they use Valvoline Oil, which I regard as a qualility product. Also because they open early. I have gone to several different Brake Master stores throughout the Greater Phoenix Metropolitan area over time trying to find one that really takes the quality level of their work seriously. So far, no luck. My Taxis are Toyota Priuses, and so are highly vulnerable to any irregular or substandard work. I have found that no matter which Brake Masters store that I go to, there are always quality problems. Sometimes very potententially damaging quality problems. Case in point, I recently had an oil change performed on one of my Toyota Priuses at the store on Mill and Southern in Tempe, AZ this past week. After getting the car home and letting it sit in my driveway for a couple hours I noticed a puddle of oil on the driveway. So took it to a mechanic that I trust and had him take a look. After he lifted it up on the rack he had me come over and watch as he moved the oil drain plug loose a little with just with his fingers. That's where the oil was dripping from, They had neglected to tighten it at Brake Masters when I had the oil change performed. That was a very potententially damaging mistake. If that oil plug would have worked itself loose all the way and fallen out it would have allowed all the oil to drain out of my engine potentially ruining my engine. That's just one example of the quality problems that I've had at Brake Masters. I think the corporate chains have employees that just want to put in their 40 hrs, a week and go home to a cold beer in their easy chair. It is my impression that they really don't have a personal interest in performing quality work, even if it means causing major damage to the vehicles they work on. And the search goes on for a company that does takes quality seriously. Why don't I go to my trusted mechanic you ask. He just doesn't open early enough. Oh, by the way. I went back to that Brake Masters store and informed the service manager of their mistake and received a very half hearted, insincere "sorry sir", and that was it. Please see the attached report that I received from the mechanic I had look at it. **************************************************************************************************************** Customer brought in vehicle, stating there was an oil leak and would like to know why, as he had just had an oil change performed last Saturday. Technician inspected vehicle and found the oil drain plug to be "finger" tight, and not properly torqued down to specification. Technician brought customer underneath the vehicle to visualy show him the problem at hand. Technician tightened oil drain plug to specification, lowered vehicle, and checked the oil level. I took my dad's Pathfinder back to Brake Masters on Mill and Southern because he had taken it there 3 weeks prior and ever since then there was a horrible squealing noise while backing up and lightly braking. Since my dad had chosen NOT to replace his brake pads on his last visit, I expected some sort of push back or new sales pitch. Surprisingly, I got neither. They told me I would have to wait 30 minutes before they could look at it, but less than 15 minutes later someone came out and told me it was fixed and ready to go. It was such a positive experience that I decided I HAD to write a review. When my dad finally decides to replace his pads, this is the place he will go. The workers at this location are very unprofessional, they kept sighing about the work that had to be done on my car as if they didn't want to do it. After they pulled my car in I went to watch them work on my it and I noticed they made my rear drum brakes very tight to the point it would have been dangerous to me and my car. I had such a great experience this week at brake masters. Mark was the person who helped me out. He was very honest and helpful when i brought my car in to have the alignment checked. A couple of weekends ago my husband went there for an oil change. They were extremely busy. My husband waited at the counter for 10 minutes and was ignored by the salesperson who walked by him. HOWEVER... Upon hearing about this, another person at the shop offered him a free oil change for the inconvenience. We also went ahead and had our transmission fluid flushed. So far so good. My husband had been there before and received good service, and they went out of their way to make it right this time, so we will still use them in the future. read more

I have been a customer of this store for about a year. Recently I went in for my usual oil change and was told that I needed additional work on my car.This additional work was going to cost me $800.00. I decided to take my car to a coworkers trusted mechanic for a second opinion that came by recommendation. After looking at my car and showing him the paper brake masters had given me, he told me that none of those things needed to be repaired. He was disgusted like I was and disappointed that businesses continue to try and rip off their customers. We took my husband's car here when his AC went out a few days ago. They said they needed to replace the compressor and some hoses and belts that had been damaged by the leakage of chemicals. Okay. Fine. Good. Get it done. So we drop the car off in the morning and my husband takes my car to work for the day. He gets home just in time for us to make it back up to the shop before they close today. I drop him off to pay and pick up his car, and head back home as quick as I can. We have a teething, tired, hungry, miserable four month old that needs to be taken care of and not stuck in a car seat. As soon as I get everything unloaded back at home and am making a bottle, my husband calls. The moment he turned his car on the in the Brake Masters parking lot.... his compressor (the same compressor that they had just put on a couple of hours earlier) fell apart and coolant spewed everywhere!!! So at this point my tiny child is screaming for his bottle, and instead of comforting and feeding him, I now have to load him back into the car and fight rush hour traffic and Baseline and the 60 all the way back to the shop with my child crying so hard he's making himself sick. All because this place is either too incompetent to do their job correctly, or stupid enough to put an already broken part into a car they were supposed to be fixing. So now I have a beyond upset child who has a fever from the combination of teething and getting so upset, and because they have to re-fix their mistake I once again will be stranded at home all day with no way to take him to the doctor if he doesn't improve. The only way this one star could ever be anything more is if they somehow miraculously decide to be decent and refund us the thousands of dollars we paid for this crap shoot. read more

Where to start.. I Was told originally that the job would take 3 hours. Ended up taking all day. Quoted $50 more than what I paid. A "required" part that I asked to be advised of was installed at my surprise expense, but wasn't contacted. When I showed up my custom painted vehicle was covered in oil.. You could tell they didn't care because they used brake cleaner and a rag to wipe it off. When asked about check engine light from original problem, was told about more work that my vehicle needed and was given quote. Then after mechanic plugged battery back in the check engine light was gone and has been gone since... When asked about the "complimentary" review of my brakes and fluids somehow they forgot. Days later I heard rattling in my engine compartment only to find that they bolted on my cold air intake incorrectly onto my vehicle. These guys might have well trained mechanics but what good is it if you do sloppy work? They get a 2 cuz they at least fixed the problem. read more

Mark and his team let me leave with loose lugs on my front wheel. I won't trust them to tighten a gas cap properly. After giving me bs that they couldn't machine my routers I went home to take a look at things. I graver my torque wrench and lug socket to my surprise it didn't even break ten. I only have bad things to say about this place. Tech number 2209 invoice 47166 in cas the company is worried. Oh update the screws from my router to the hub are missing. All 4 of them. Beware! Went in for new brake pads, which is all I needed, and was high pressured into having the rotors replaced and the brake fluid flushed and refilled. I declined and asked for just pads. Was told I would not get the warranty. I know for a fact that my rotors DO NOT need to be replaced. I was trying to save time and money going here, but took my car to my regular mechanic instead and just had new pads put on. Saved $200 and the brakes work fine. read more

I just bought a car they just repaired four days ago. the a/c had a warranty from said repair. So I called up and they said that the warranty was not in effect after the car was sold... WHAT??!! its the same damn a/c unit you supposedly fixed but you won't honor a warranty because I didn't buy it. They "fixed" it FOUR DAYS AGO!!! I have the damn receipt, I have the car, its too damn hot to drive in AZ without A/C. so I searched for a car with a/c. It was find when I bought it drove it home for about an hour next day no a/c. Took the car in for free alignment check as car was pulling to the right. Suspected the old tires. Asked them to evaluate the tires. Within 5 minutes they decided I needed a lower control arm bushing ($350) and a replacement for four leaking McPherson struts ($750) total $1100 and since I had four different brands (not sizes) of tires they couldn't guarantee the work. I left. Went home switched the front tires. Car pulled to left. Got two new tires. Car tracks straight. Except in instances of hard braking in wet weather where different tread patterns are involved, different tire brands don't matter as long as the sizes are alike. By the way, the struts aren't leaking and I saw no problem with the bushing. I'll leave it to the reader to decide how honest the shop is... read more

Unfortunately, there was no option to select less than one star. So my car was running fine. All I needed them to do was fix a fuel line. After I left, that evening the car wouldn't start. Took it back and one of the employees said the engine was blown and it was going to cost me an arm and a leg to replace it. I had them hold off. The next day the manager explained to me that he was wrong, the engine wasn't blown. Are you kidding me?! They almost took me for 700 dollars just to find out what was wrong. I called to schedule an appointment and was told to come in in 20 minutes and what I needed done (brake inspection) would take about an hour. I showed up 20 minutes later and turned in my keys. 3 hours (not kidding) later I finally asked how long it would be still and they said they had just taken my car into their garage. Having made me wait for 3 hours already I decided to take my business elsewhere. I can only imagine if it takes over 3 hours to do a brake inspection how long it would take to actually change the brakes...I took my business elsewhere. read more

Worst service ever and I've gone back hoping the previous visit was a one time horrible experience. But they reaffirmed just how unhappy their employees and management are there at this location maybe they're not paid very well I'm not sure what the problem is but there are nothing but thugs with neck tattoos smoking cigarettes. I called ahead and asked if they had time to do a simple rotation, they said they did, I expressed 3/4 Times that I didn't have time and if they didn't have time that's OK we can reschedule but I was hoping they happened to have a slow point and can do it, they had no one in their store at that time. They said they would get right on but my truck stayed out in the parking lot running for 10 minutes while everybody just Sat around and talked in the shop and smoked and drank soda. One of the reasons I'm in a hurry because I have an animal with me and it's 108° When I ask questions I was answered as if it was an inconvenience to them just super rude I can't tell you what a horrible place this is.
