They charged me $375 for false diagnostics and gave me an estimate for $2000 of unneccesary repairs. They also tried to delay warranty work in order to run out the time remaining on my NAPA warranty. This place came very highly recommended so I figured I would give them a try, even though they were pretty far from me. I'm so glad that I did! I can't even possibly give a review that will do this place proper justice. I called to see when I could bring my car in. The woman who answered the phone was super friendly and helpful. I was able to get right in! I came in with a "check engine" light on. My car was acting fine but the light would not turn off, which means I can't use my automatic start. It's cold out! I came in on Thursday and they took a look at it. They found a quick fix, but the light was still coming on. They needed to do more digging so they wanted me to come back. They didn't charge me for that, which was crazy because they did fix a problem and they spent quite some time on it. I came back today and was expecting an expensive fix, because I knew they had to do a lot of work to find the issue. I dropped it off and within 3 hours they were calling me because it was ready. They found a loose bolt, tightened it up, and drove it around. The light did not come back on. They could have told me that it was something super expensive to fix. But they were absolutely honest! They spent a total of 6 hours working on my car between the two days and only charged me $40!! I know most garages would have taken advantage of me, but they didn't. I took my car here because of the excellent reviews here, however, I did not have a good experience. The people here were very rude to me. I took my car here for a break job and they didn't even acknowledge me when I walked in their EMPTY lobby (about 4 men were behind the counter). Let me preface...I was dropping my car off for work to be done the next day...and it was about 1/2 hr before closing...but still...they were very. rude. to. me. When one of them go off of the phone, he said that someone would be right with me. One of the men at the table got up (after I waited for a bit) and rang up my invoice (like he was a new employee...he didn't know what he was doing and had to be prompted by another guy). Anyway, I left my car, overnight, with instructions to call me in the morning with a price. The place never called me...but they said that they tried 4x. I ended up going to get my car because they wanted to charge me over $600 for brakes (all around) AND they couldn't guarantee that they would be done by close of business. So I picked up my car and took it to another shop where I was charged $450. BIG DIFFERENCE!! Same warranty and everything. I'm giving this place one star because of their INCREDIBLY RUDE SERVICE. Apparently I drove all the way from Chicago to Royal Oak with a giant bolt in my tire. By the time we arrived in Royal Oak, my tire was low on air and clearly needed a fix. My mother-in-law recommended Brakes & More because she took her car here for work and always enjoyed her experiences. They couldn't repair the tire (just too damaged) but even on a late Friday evening they were able to change out the tire. Luckily they had one in stock and it only took about an hour from beginning to end to have the tire repaired. We walked a few blocks, ate, and everything was done when we came back. Cost about $100 which was expected because it was same-day, no appointment, and no discount for multiple tires. The shop is owned by one family and everyone was really nice and talkative. Someone explained exactly what was going on with my tire and what needed to be done about it. My mother-in-law has also liked everything she's had done here - she says everyone is honest and they explain what needs to happen in terms that everyone can understand. Let me start by saying I, along with my wife, have gone to Brakes and More religiously for the past 5 years for nearly any and all car-related issues. We are not super "car savvy," but know/research enough to understand the basics of what could be wrong, and how much it should cost. During the past 5 years, Brakes and More staff (especially Keith and Pam) have gone out of their way to make us feel comfortable, supported, and most importantly, safe. We have never been over-quoted for service, and have always received fast/reliable service. They will often show you exactly what was worked on, and take you back into the shop for an explanation. With that said, this past week proved to be a tough one for my car. My A/C has been messed up for the past two years. Long story short (it is a VERY long and complicated story), the work took longer and was more extensive than they (and I) had first thought. It was frustrating, as one can imagine. There were unexpected issues that arose during this time that many other dealers/shops would have charged me more for, and would have probably acted as if it was not their problem. Brakes and More, however, treated me like family. They show respect and concern for me as a longtime customer, and went ABOVE AND BEYOND any type of customer service I have received from a small business. The past 3 months of lockdown/pandemic have taken a toll on a lot of people/companies financially and emotionally. They very easily could have just looked at the immediate bottom line, charged me a ton, and treated me like crap. Instead, Keith and Pam went out of their way to find a solution, fix the issues, and most importantly, provide the type of service that will retain me as a customer for as long as I am in the area. So glad to have found Brakes & More, I tell everyone to go there. My children drive old cars and they need a lot of repairs, Keith and the guys make it so that we get every last mile out of the cars. I was most impressed when they recommended that I scrap a car rather than fixing, I had just had $400 of brake work done at another local repair shop that everyone raves about. I have been going to Keith for all of my mechanic issues since I was sixteen. You will simply not find another HONEST, hardworking, and reputable mechanic than him in this area. I have so many examples from the last 25 years of him proving his expertise, honesty, and amazing customer service. My favorite was when the service light came on in my Ford F150 and I HAD to take it to the dealer because Ford didn't release what the diagnostic codes meant to outside mechanics. I paid the $90 diagnostic fee to the dealer to see what it was. After two trips to the dealer service department, they claimed they fixed the issue only to have the service light come back on immediately / shortly after I left. On the third trip in two days to the Ford service department, they told me it could be one of eleven things wrong with my vehicle, and it would cost me around $3,500 dollars to do all eleven items on the list. I declined, because I believe they were just guessing at that point. Surprisingly, the dealer gave me the list with all eleven of the suspected items and I took it to Keith. Keith did all eleven items that day for around $450. I never had an issue since. This is just one of many examples I could give as to why I only go to the guys at Brakes and More. read more

I took the Beck Arnley brake pads and rotors from Rock Auto to Brake & More to have them installed. They were the only shop that's willing to install customer parts after calling a few shops. After dropping off the car, they called back as promised to let me know the problem to get my permission to start working on it. I also requested a brake flush over the call since it's never done despite the vehicle has over 100K miles now. They were able to get the work done within a few hours before I needed to pick up kids. When I picked up the car, i had a question and Keith, the mechanic, came out and he answered why the brake was pulsating to my satisfaction. After getting the car back, I realized their quality of work was excellent. Now the new brake feels solid and I got back that factory brake feel! read more

I'm a pretty handy guy. I work with tools for a living. But one of the things I hate doing the most is brakes. It's a dirty job. It's also a pain in the ass if you don't have a lift. So when it comes to doing brakes, I don't mind having someone else do them. In fact, I encourage it. This is when I bring my car to Brakes & More. I'll be honest - I'm very hard on my brakes. One might even call me a braking enthusiast. Consequently, I wear through my pads pretty damn quickly. I also tend to wait far too long before replacing my pads. By the time i'm done with them, I usually wear through half of the backing plate as well. (Hey, I paid for all that metal... i'm going to use it!) This usually ends up destroying my rotors, and can even damage the caliper if the piston extends too far. As you can imagine, this is expensive. Fortunately, Brakes & More has extremely fair pricing. I was able to get all 4 rotors and pads replaced on my car for $450. This may not sound all that cheap, but the car I drive is an import with expensive brakes. I honestly would pay close to $400 just for the parts if I did it myself. These guys are fast too. I believe they had my car in and out in around 2 hours. I went home and took a nap so I don't know exactly how long it took, but it was a lot faster than I expected. The guys who work here are totally honest. They even brought me back to the garage to show me what they were going to do. I appreciated that. The shop may seem a little dirty & messy, but instead of buying a mop they just pass the savings along to the customer. That works for me! So next time you need a brake job, try this place out. They are honest, inexpensive, quick, and they do the job right. You really can't ask for anything more! read more

I found Brakes & More on Yelp after hearing a very nice grinding/crunching noise coming from my front left brake. Admittedly, I knew my brakes needed work. I had taken the car in to get an oil change at the dealership and they said I needed brake work (among other things) and that it would cost me $650-700. YEAH RIGHT! So I let it go (I know, I know...but that much money was a little hard to handle) and they got progressively worse until they were making this sound that I couldn't ignore any longer. I called up Brakes & More on Monday morning when they opened and asked if I could drop the car off for them to look at. They said sure, so I left my car figuring I wouldn't hear anything until the early afternoon. 2 HOURS LATER they called me back and said I needed new brake pads, rotors and my calipers cleaned. I asked how much it would be (held my breath) and they told me $296 and that it would be ready by the afternoon. They called me at 3:15pm to tell me it was ready and I had my car home by 4pm. In some of the reviews people mention that these guys aren't chatty and that the waiting area leaves something to be desired. But you know what? They don't have to chat with me. I just need them to fix my car. And even if I had to wait at the shop (which I didn't luckily) I'll just bring a coffee and a book and settle myself in. These guys did great work on my car for less than half the price that was quoted to me. I would recommend them to anyone and I'll definitely go back to them in the event that I need more work done. Called Friday to see if they could get me in on Saturday. They told me if I was there by 8 they'd have my brakes done that day. Well wouldn't you know it- I was running late on Saturday morning- got there @ 8:30 (not too bad) - they still got me in and DONE by 11:15- pretty awesome! I bought my own rotors (S&G Imports) and brought them to Brakes & More which they used with no additional labor cost- same price as just brake pads. Although, because Brakes & More charges such reasonable prices, I didn't save much at all by buying my own rotors- next time I'll know. This place beat the prices of any other place I called. Even more, I feel confident that Brakes & More performed quality work. Skip the chain stores- support your local businesses- they care more about you and the work that they do! Tip: Don't wait. But If you are like me and have no other choice, they do have a small tube TV for your enjoyment. I would recommend bringing something to do- like a book or your phone- make sure the battery is full as I didn't see an open plug anywhere. They do have a locked wi-fi connection but I am not sure if they give out the password to customers. Could not find free wi-fi from neighboring joints. read more

I guess I should start off by explaining that I am "that girl". Yes, I am the girl who sees that her engine light is on and just keeps driving till one day my car doesn't drive anymore. On the day I went to Brakes & More, I had been listening to my brakes make some very horrible scraping noises (Honestly, it sounded like airplane engines warming up when I braked) for well over 2 months. This particular day my brakes decided not to stop my car at a street light near my house, causing me to drive right through a red light. Luckily, I wasn't harmed and made it safely to the other side but this was the last straw. The moment I got home, my boyfriend helped me get my car to the closest brake shop (Brakes & More). Too be honest, my first impression of the building wasn't a great one. It was a cluttered and dirty building, reeked of the usual car fluids. If it hadn't been an emergency and my boyfriend hadn't previously had a great experience there, I'm pretty sure I would've turned around and left. The guys that work there were extremely helpful. We came in not far from close but they asked us to grab a seat in the waiting area and they took a look really quick. As I was expecting, every aspect of my brakes were destroyed. They invited us back to the shop and showed us all the parts. Explained what was wrong and even showed me what my brakes were supposed to look like. Since car lingo is pretty much a foreign language, I found this extremely helpful. At the end of all of this, I was terrified what the price was going to be. I expected a number well over $1,000. The estimate I was given was just over $800. Now, remember EVERYTHING had to be replaced. My next concern was that I had to work the following day at 7pm but that wasn't a problem. My car ended up being ready a little after 1pm the next day! And it gets better! When we went to pay the bill it ended up only being a little over $700! Now that's one heck of a price for the work they had to do. Now if you were going to go into the shop today, you'd see my old rotor sitting on their "wall of shame" The place where mistreated and overworked brake parts are on display. I kinda got a kick out of this. If you need your brakes fixed I definitely say take your car here! The shop may not be pretty but I'd take a great price and great work over a pretty shop any day! read more

I've taken my car here many times and always feel I've gotten a good price for service. I used to have brake/router issues every year, and the dealership just fixed them. I explained my brake/router to Brakes & More, and they had a solution. It was a pricier option, but it worked - in the long run its saving me money!
