Extremely caring doctor who goes above and beyond. I had a health concern and I was very scared and worried. I found Dr. Brandeis using the Zocdoc app and I was able to get a next day appointment. Dr. Brandeis discussed my symptoms with me, immediately tried to put me at ease, did a thorough exam and ordered follow up tests. Throughout my treatment, he kept in contact to let me know my test results as soon as they came in, discuss any questions or concerns. When I needed an additional test that he doesn't do in his office, he referred me to another very qualified doctor but continued to keep in contact and wanted to know how I was doing. In a time when the average doctor appointment is 15 minutes and most patients feel like a number, Dr. Brandeis is unique in his level of involvement and care. read more

OFFICE IS CLOSED FOR WHO KNOWS HOW LONG I like the Dr. but apparently he is taking a "leave" and didn't bother to have his patients informed, which is really frustrating. I called his office several times and left messages that went unanswered for days. At the very least they could change the voicemail so that people don't wait around for a call back. All I needed was an updated prescription but because he didn't bother to inform his patients, people like me are stuck scrambling to find someone else. Even when he does come back to work I highly doubt I'll return as patient if this is the way they treat them. read more

I had several laser hair removal treatments at a different clinic with stellar results, but saw that the prices at Brandeis Center were slightly cheaper. So I decided to give them a try for one treatment. I have done quite a bit of research on the procedure and was familiar with facts like that all treated hair should shed within 3 weeks, which always happened after my treatments at the other clinic. Well, 3 weeks after the treatment at this center, at most 10% of the hair shed. That was all. This means that the settings they used were too low. I had a feeling that this would happen as I didn't feel nearly as much pain as I know I should have and the doctor was using a gliding method (not precise and tends to skip spots - usually used for speed). I believe I was treated with the Sonata diode laser, the only machine they had at the time (though it's unclear from their website since they refer to LightSheer diode studies and never mention Sonata as the name of their machine, just that it's a diode). Anyway, I ended up contacting the clinic to discuss the situation and they were quick to dismiss my complaint and request for a touchup (as many clinics do in such cases) and simply replied that it was completely normal to basically not see any difference. Right. Not for $250+. Fortunately, I've done plenty of research and have had 2 sucessful treatments before this to know that this was not true. Basically, they got their money and didn't seem to care whether I ever came back. I tried to dispute through my credit card, but couldn't because the service was technically provided. Needless to say, I would never come back to this place again and would never recommend it to anyone. Judging by their website, it seems that they got a Coolglide ND:Yag machine in the office now in addition to the diode. Hopefully, they know how to set the settings correctly on it so that others don't have to waste their money on ineffective treatments like I did. I would strongly recommend you do some unbiased research on any clinic you choose before paying for your treatments. Btw, I got great results (95%+) removal with my original doctor who knows what he's doing, who I also reviewed. It's sad that places like this give laser hair removal a bad name. I'm sure there are numerous people who've gone here looking for results and ended up leaving thinking that laser hair removal doesn't work. Laser works - you just need to find someone who knows what they're doing. And this place is not it as far as I'm concerned. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Brandeis since 1998 and he is by far my favorite doctor. He loves his job and his patients and takes time with each one and answers any questions you have. His nurse Nelly is great too. His office also stays open later than most doctor's offices and has weekend appointments too. He has treated me for two abortions and std screenings, pap smears. I have seen him at least 2x per year since 1998. I would recommend him to any woman for any woman's health concern. I almost forgot. I got laid off and was out of work for a year and without insurance and Dr. Brandeis put me on emergency medicade and performed my abortion and std screening and it did not cost me anything. This place is great; the staff is friendly and helpful, the wait isn't long, and Dr. Brandeis is AMAZING. I had initially gone somewhere else, and I needed a follow up appointment (the initial place didn't have anything available for another month, which was too long for me to wait), so I found Dr. Brandeis (and his plethora of great reviews), so I decided to call and make an appointment. The receptionist was friendly and helpful, and she was able to get me in the next day (or maybe it was the same day, I can't remember). Anyways, I got there early to fill out paperwork, and didn't have to wait long to get called in. Btw, the office is very clean, organized, and comfy. I've never had a male gyno before, but Dr. Brandeis made me feel so comfortable and was so sweet and patient, that I felt completely at ease. He went over my paper work and was able to fit me in that day for the follow up tests. So grateful. He really cared and took his time, not like others I've been to where they literally spend two to three minutes in the room and run out to see their next patient. The office schedules things in a timely manner where you actually get to spend time with the doctor without him running an hour behind. His nurse (I forgot her name, but she's absolutely ADORABLE, the motherly type, who treats you like you're her own precious daughter--love her) came in and talked to me and told me what she was doing and what was going to happen, so there were no surprises. Dr. Brandeis worked his magic and made everything as comfortable as it could get during the exam--like I said, he truly cares about the well being and comfort of his patients. His skill, knowledge, and talent as a doctor is superb. Dr, Brandies has been my Dr. Since I was 17 yrs old and delivered all three of my babies via C-section. I absolutely adore this great man and Dr. There will never be another one like him. Laser hair removal review. I tried Dr Brandeis many years ago to get laser hair removal done. Unfortunately, although I really liked the doctor and his staff and his prices were cheap, I got what I paid for. I found the treatments to be ineffective. He used a low power setting and so there was little "shedding". After I stopped treatments, ALL the hair came back. I know because I took before and after pictures and I could match up every single follicle coming back months later. Additionally, after doing more extensive research I learned that laser can trigger MORE hair growth. This is because laser can stimulate vellus hairs (the "baby" hairs you can barely see) and cause them to become thicker terminal hairs. You can research "laser stimulated hair growth" and "laser paradoxical hair growth" to get more info on this. Even for people who believe that they had successful laser treatments, the hair can come back 6 months to years later. Unfortunately most people think that they are seeing results with laser right away but only realize later that laser didn't work for them once treatments have stopped for a while. Electrolysis is the best way to get permanent results and I recommend that anyone who wants permanent hair removal to look into finding a very skilled electrologist. Even though laser "feels" like it is working faster and can be cheaper, in the long-run electrolysis will get you real permanent results over the long-term. read more

At the risk of getting too personal, I have to tell you my story and my dealings with this clinic as a word of warning for all those in a sticky situation just like mine was until a few days ago. Bottom line- i thought i needed an abortion. I have gone through this before, as have many of my friends, so I am familiar with the procedure and what happens. I wrote them in the middle of the night and they called me the next day and said I could come in. I thought this was only for paperwork as they didn't give the usual directions one gets in these situations- "bring a pair of socks, a sanitary napkin, make sure you have a ride" etc. So that led me to believe that I was just doing some paperwork and pre-op counseling. The night before I was scheduled I wound up having a miscarriage. Being that this place is an OB/GYN joint I figured I ought to go in and get checked out. Called the clinic and was confronted by an incredibly rude and uninformed girl who said "I don't know what you want us to do for you". Well, being that you accept Medi-Cal for OB/GYN stuff maybe have a look see, or give me some advice, being that this is a doctor's office that works on WOMEN? No, she didn't have any idea and no advice, sounded confused- much as if she were working retail and somebody asked her what aisle they keep the garbage bags in ("No, like I only work in the sunglasses department, like I have never had to buy trash bags, y'knew?"). I hung up and called back hoping to speak with someone else, and got a doctor's answering machine- Dr. Brandeis, I presume. Funny, his business hours are 8-5 or thereabouts- and i was scheduled to come in at 6- and not for paperwork, for an abortion. I personally think this STINKS. So the guy is doing lipo during the day and then he shuts down the place and gives quickie abortions just by switching the tip on the suction machine? (Thats' actually what happens). It would be one thing if the guy trained his freaking receptionist in sensitivity and women's issues, gave good instructions and didn't come off as a back-alley lowlife just trying to stay on top of his Mazarati payments by doing Guv'ment cheapo abortions- but that obviously is NOT the case. I thank god that i didn't have to deal with these people for the full Monty. I am alarmed that a reputable clinic would double after hours in such a slapdash manner. When a woman has to go through this I think, call me crazy, that she deserves at least a modicum of decent care. I shudder to think how quickly I would have been pushed out the door- "screw you, bus stop thataway". For those wondering if this is actually the very same place as their beloved laser-hair-removal guy, I checked the address. Same place, same doctor's name. While there may be nothing illegal in what he is doing, he is at the very least guilty of bad service and bad taste. DON'T GO HERE. Go to Planned Parenthood. They actually bother TRAINING their receptionists. read more

Edited 7/14/14: in regard to Carmen's review below, I am sorry she had a bad experience, but Dr. Brandeis is NOT a shady doctor, and I can't imagine him caring about car payments above people! I have known him for 30 years, and he is like family. I once needed an abortion, and I can say that I was treated immediately and compassionately with no judgment whatsoever. Dr. Brandeis confirmed the pregnancy via ultrasound and dated it as less than 4 weeks (it was really just an egg sac). Nelli is his Russian/Armenian receptionist, and she is the most loving, intelligent, funny assistant of any doctor ever (and I've seen a lot for everything from childhood ear infections to adolescent eating disorders to middle age low back pain). Dr. Brandeis sees patients "after hours" not because he is "shady" but because he is a workaholic and he lives for his patients. If he can't fit you in during office hours, he will have you come after hours. This is not unusual. Dr. Brian Novack once saw my friend at 11 pm in his office because she thought her breast reduction drain was coming loose. Most doctors would say go to the ER, but some doctors, Brandeis included, consider themselves your doctor 24/7, not just during office hours. My procedure was non-surgical and excruciating. Doctor B gave me lots of pain medication (unlike many doctors who give you side-eye like you're an addict if you even ask) and when the pain hit hours later, he even called me back and gave me a reassuring talk about how it would just be a few hours and then I'd be "perfect" again. I love him so much, I can't even tell you. (end of edited review, responding to Carmen's unfair, angry review) At 17, as I followed Dr. Brandeis to the exam room, I confessed that I'd never had a male doctor before and I was nervous. He smiled kindly and said, "We don't do anything different." Dr. Brandeis mostly does Botox and laser hair and tattoo removal now, but when I was young, he was an Ob/Gyn primarily. He treated me and all my sisters and we all love him. Any lady knows that a gynecological exam is no picnic, but Dr. Brandeis, or Manny as we call him amongst ourselves, always made it as comfortable as possible. He had this peerless chair with a leopard pattern design and you sat in it like a dentist's chair, but then, it reclined and the bottom of it magically lowered. There was no scooting to the end of this table. The end of the table came to YOU. One thing I really liked was that Dr. Brandeis had his own ultrasound machine and so looking at my uterus and ovaries via ultrasound was a regular part of my exam. My medical record has pictures of my ovaries from age 17 to 30. They're gorgeous, according to him. The only reason I stopped seeing him as a gynecologist is because he doesn't deliver babies. "I'm too old," he joked. No matter what was going on, Dr. Brandeis has this very convincing, non dismissive way of saying "Don't worry, it's nothing, it's nothing." Through my less than responsible twenties, a phone call to him always put me at ease. It wasn't always nothing... I had cancer when I was quite young, but Dr. Brandeis operated twice and cured me. I'll always love him for that. Waking up from surgery to him squeezing my hand and telling me, "We got it all. You'll have tons of babies. TONS," is something I will never forget. I love him for the Botox too. I still look thirty. Hopefully I will for a very long time. read more

I don't know if this place is clean, if the doctors are nice because it seems to me I will never be able to get in. This is just outrageous! Here's what happened: A friend of mine gave the phone number of the center, told me that Dr. Brandeis is a really good doctor. I called and made an appointment. I work till 6 so I told a secretary that earliest I can do is 6.30. Its really hard for me to get off work. They said no problem. A day before the appointment they called and canceled it saying that the doctor had to leave earlier. I said ok, its not a problem at all, lets schedule another one. We started checking the dates and time available and they said they couldn't do later than 5.30. Didn't matter which day or date. I was surprised, how come you were able to do it before. They said it was a mistake. I didn't have a choice, I needed to see the doctor. I said okay, lets do it. Guess what, a day before the appointment they called and canceled again saying the same thing that the doctor had to leave earlier. I felt like this is ridiculous but what can I do??? We scheduled another one, 3rd appointment. This time they were able to find 6.30pm spot. I was happy. At least this. You don't need to see the future to guess what happened next. Correct! They canceled it. This time they called two days before the appointment and told me that the doctor had to go out of town. They asked however if I can come on the next day. I said sure. Next day in the morning they called and canceled. Patience and common sense have their limits you know. I told them that this is unacceptable. It had been going on for 2 months! What if I had something serious??? To tell you honestly I wanted to do a regular check, make sure everything is all right. But how can I know if I can't see the doctor for over 2 months?? I'm sure the doctor is great, so many reviews and my friend can not lie. But customer service is the worst! They just don't give a damn! Its extremely disrespectful. I feel helpless at this point. Looks like I'll have to go to another center after wasting more than 2 months for nothing!!! read more

Dr. Brandeis himself is very nice, if you actually ever get to see him. He cancels appointments way too often in short amounts of time/notice....frequently. Then when you finally go in...don't ever expect to be seen anywhere near your appointment time. Front receptionists are pretty inconsiderate & clueless (minus the Asian female...she's nice.) I recently made an appointment, left work early to be there on time, only to be cut off abruptly by the receptionist as I signed in, "Don't sign in! The Dr. isn't here." Confused I explained to her that I had an appointment for 5:30p (which at the time, it was 5:20p) and she stared at me for a few before checking her computer & claiming they called me & left a message canceling my appointment --- Which was very false. After reassuring her that I had not received a call nor any messages, I decided to confirm my phone number with her (which I felt maybe she should've thought to do?) and for some unknown reason, the number she read off was incorrect. I've received calls from them in the past without any problems so this seemed so strange to me...all she could say was, "I don't know what to tell you." How about an apology for the inconvenience?!?! Just rude. But without further adieu I rescheduled another appointment for a day which I was still not able to see the Dr. due to them being so behind schedule that I would've been there for more than 2 or 3 hours and they needed me to fill out paperwork like it was my first time visiting. Don't go if you're pressed for time.... you'll probably need an entire day to deal with this facility. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Brandeis since last fall for my laser hair removal treatment. Lets face it...getting your hair zapped off is not comfortable OR painless & esp not where I've been doing it, but what can I say; a few moments of discomfort vs. a lifetime of hot wax is a no brainer for me. I'm about to have my last treatment (6 - 7 treatments total on average with 4 - 5 weeks wait in between treatments) and am very satisfied and have just completed my 1st laser tattoo removal treatment (which is no picnic either). Guess I'm just not bad-ass enough to tolerate pain. Anyway, the prices are reasonable, the results so far great & they're really friendly...I'm already thinking about getting my underarms zapped. Who would have figured laser hair removal would be so addictive? read more

I have been to Dr Brandeis several times for the lady parts upkeep and he is FANTASTIC!!! No woman enjoys the idea of needing screen or anything to do with needing legs in stirrups but Dr. Brandeis makes you feel so comfortable. He takes the time to address any concern you have and makes you feel at ease in a non-dissmissive manner. His front desk staff and nurses are helpful and the lovely Russian lady who usually takes my blood gives the best blood test. Im a needlephobe and I never feel it! Use to be my OBGYN, and needed some records for my new OBGYN. Apparently when I called to enquire, they weren't answering and I left three messages that were unreturned for over a week. So, I stopped by twice during regular business hours and they were locked up. Had never had issues with the office and Dr. Brandeis had always been very nice. Finally got ahold of Dr. Brandeis through his emergency personal line and he told me the office will be closed for atleast another month. Not sure why they're closed but if you are looking on yelp for an OBGYN you won't be able to come here for atleast a month so don't make the same mistake I did and try to stop by twice. Hope this helps if anyone else was wondering why their calls weren't being returned. The only reason I am giving such a low rating which I hate doing was due to the fact that I had left several messages and if a doctors office is going to be closed for such a long length of time, I think someone should be checking the messages consistently and informing current and former patients. read more

I went to the Dr Brandeis for a hair removal consultation ( one of my friends is his patient and has seen good results) and he was very kind and considerate. I had some other underlying problems that he identified and instead of trying to make a buck for himself , he suggested I approach my insurance with kaiser to see if they could perform and cover the procedure instead. Love these guys! The staff is so sweet and they have recognized me and call me by name which is sweet. I've been getting my birth control here for years as well as anything female related. He actually switched me from another birth control I had been prescribed from my old doc back home, magically my skin cleared up. Thank you! They schedule appointments up until 7pm and even on some weekends which is extremely helpful since I work 40hrs a week! I've only had one issue with waiting a little long and that's because I was hidden so the receptionists couldn't see me and I didn't bother to check in on the status every 15 mins like I do normally. First of all I feel very safe under care of Dr Brandeis, he is a very good doctor. He is very knowledgeable and answers any question. My experience at this center has been great. Not only is the staff very polite and very helpful but the Dr. is very comforting. I went in for hair removal and it was my first time. The Dr. would ask me through the whole procedure if I was ok and if the pain wasn't too much caring that it wouldn't be too painful. After the procedure was done his staff explained what I had to do and how to do it and answered every question I had. I can't express how comforting they made me feel. Well, where do I start? My wife has had several miscarriages and the last 2 she was under the care of Dr Brandeis. Now don't get me wrong, he is a nice enough bloke. But on a professional level, he is very inept. He is supposed to be an obstetrician and gynecologist, well I think he must have gotten these qualifications off the back of a cornflake packet. This man mainly deals with cosmetic procedures and does the ob/gyn stuff as a side line. The premises are fairly unclean. The second time my wife went to see him for another pregnancy, she was told that she was again, unfortunately, having a miscarriage. Was sent home with the relevant tablets and pain meds. 4 weeks later my wife is still in excruciating pain and losing a lot of blood. I took her to the ER, who did an ultrasound and said that there was a mass and she may have appendicitis. We then went back to Brandeis, who said it definitely wasn't a mass, after doing another ultrasound. Gave more pain meds and sent my wife away. 2 weeks went by and I could not stand to see my wife in so much pain anymore. Got another appointment with Brandeis, did an ultrasound. During the ultrasound Brandeis told my wife, that there was intact a mass in there, he'd never seen anything like it, and that it was out of his league!! He couldn't even suggest a next step. I did some research and got my wife in to see a gynecologist in Pasadena, who did a very thorough pelvic exam, did a lot of things Brandeis did not. Asked questions that Brandeis did not, and most importantly, listened to my wife (unlike Brandeis). Dr Wilson-Manigat then sent my wife for a blood test and ultrasound. The next morning we got a phone call from Dr Wilson-Manigat who asked my wife if she had eaten, then said that that my wife was booked in for surgery as a matter of urgency. My wife had the surgery and it was found that there had been an eptopic pregnancy. Everything was removed, but ultimately, if she had have carried on going to Brandeis, she would have died. Brandeis did 3/4 ultrasound examinations and saw nothing out of the ordinary. Maybe he should stick to abortions and laser hair removal. He is lucky I don't go down there and remonstrate as I am fuming. When I called to tell him that my wife was rushed in to surgery for an ectopic pregnancy, that he had failed to diagnose on several occasion, and how my ill my wife was, all he could say was I'd like to see the evidence of that. Not once did he ask if my wife was alright. He was more bothered about himself and that he'd been found out for the charlatan that he is. do not go and seen this man, you will regret it. read more

He is the most caring, gentle and professional gynecologist/OB I've ever been to. I didn't think I would but I actually prefer going to a man after having him as my doctor. I went to someone else recently, and the experience was far from good - definitely sticking to Dr. Brandeis from now on. Highly recommended. read more
