Seafood paella, salmon, iberico ham, and toast with roasted veggies and melted goat cheese
    Julia H.

I was excited to try the paella since I hadn't had it before, but I didn't realize it was normally on the saltier side. I normally have a higher salt preference, but I wasn't a fan of this level of saltiness (coming from someone who's trying this for the first time--it sounds like it's supposed to be salty, according to Google). It was also wetter than I expected, and there wasn't a socarrat ("crust") at the bottom--just my observation. The rest of the dishes were fine, though I probably wouldn't order them again since they were just ok. We also wanted to try the ham, and the meat eaters thought it was saltier than their liking (which makes sense given that it's cured), but we wanted to try it once anyways. The hostess was quick to seat us, and we opted to sit outside where we could have a nice breeze since the inside was hot and stuffy. However, tree debris did fall on our table and plates, and that couldn't be helped even with the umbrella roof. The view of La Sagrada Familia also could be seen, which was nice. The waiter was nice to give us recommendations of what wine and dishes to try, too. Overall, I and the table got to try paella and iberico ham for the first time--we weren't exactly fans of the saltiness, but that could be normal preparation, and we didn't realize--that's what first time experiences are for! The outside was nice to sit for dinner, though.

It was nice finding a restaurant where you could order Paella for one - the fresh artichoke grilled were light and delicious- attentive service-

Came here with my family. We were looking for places to eat after walking around Sagrada Familia. My cousin said he has been here before. Anything my cousin been to is legit if he says its good I trust his opinion to try the place. We ordered a lot of food. Especially steak, paella, calamari, fries for the kids. The meat was so delish. It was so tender and delish. Paella always my favorite. I loved it all from just entering the place and sad I had to leave but my tummy was full. The owner and staff are very friendly. Spoke to us in English but my cousin's boyfriend helped translate. Seating are available in the back and going in. Not so big for a stroller to fit but they accommodated my stroller.

Issac and the staff were the cherry on top of an already fantastic culinary experience!

Came upon this location because we were trying to get out of the crowds right around Segrada Familia and we are so happy we did. At the end of the road right next to the historic (and gorgeous) hospital grounds, we were greeted by Issac at the door and he immediately made us feel welcome and excited for our Tapas dinner. I rarely find a server in the US and abroad that connects to their patrons not because they have to, but they are just natural and building a great bond with their diners. He was SO knowledgeable and he and his fellow staff curated a tapas dinner based on our tastes and wants. It was FANTASTIC and highly personalized service. We were sat underneath the giant awnings in the large plaza/walkway in the middle of two tiny roads facing the beautiful historic hospital building. It was so refreshing to not have to sit in a loud restaurant and have a view! The food is what I am sure you are wanting to know about... it was DELICIOUS! The potatoes and house-made aioli seems like a pass, but the aioli was so flavorful and not too strong to overpower the garlic roasted tomatoes. The Catalonian round breads stuffed with cheese and greens was such a nice treat and the Queso fundido or the jamon are not to miss for a starter. Even the simple Catalonian bread with tomato was well-balanced and refreshing. The seafood and mixed paella were so robust in spice and flavor. My favorite part was when Issac let us know to scrape the little bits of stuck rice on the pan as that is a desirable part for many locals and have always "fought over it since children". He was right, all the flavors jam packed into the tiny bite. Lastly, the charcoal smoked meats are ridiculously good! We had the Sausage with white beans. The sausage was full of herbs and the smoke was just right. The white beans were so good with a light crispy texture that we asked for a special order of additional white beans on the side. (who knew!) The Argentinean cut was thin and perfect to share. Don't be afraid to "Pick it up and chew around the bone" as Issac shared, that is where much of the flavor is. Dessert? Brownie for sure! If you like flan, I found the dulce sauce refreshingly balanced between salty and sweet instead of just a sugar bomb of caramel. The wine menu and iconic cocktail menu had refreshing sangria, Mojito Fresa (strawberry) and other bold reds, whites, rose, and cavas at fantastic prices. Bottle of a perfect Roble was just 16 Euro (Usually around $59 at a US restaurant!) The best part was when it was all over, we felt like Issac had become the 7th member of out family/ friend group. There is nothing more enjoyable to me when I am on vacation then connecting with someone who lives the culture of the destination, everyday. We appreciated his expertise, willingness to answer all questions, joke along with us, understand our crazy sarcasm, and deliver the best meal many of us have had in a long time. We cannot wait to go back and enjoy this restaurant again. Ramon was the longtime owner and his daughter still works at this location. I hope he sees this and knows that his restaurant is in great hands and creates a one of a kind experience that this traveler finds only once in a blue moon. Thank you to Issac, Ramon and the rest of the staff for this memorable dinner! -Mike, Eric, Tiona, Roni, Mandy, Megan

Very flavorful and fast experience. Oxtail and mashed potatoes 10/10: the oxtail meet is so tender and flavorful. The mashed potatoes pair so well with the oxtail. Mushroom, steak, and egg yolk 9/10: soo flavorful and balance of veggies and protein. Amazing textures and flavors. Sparkling sangria: 8/10 I don't normally live the taste of alcohol but this was great. Not tooooo strong and if tastes pretty good if you mix it with the orange juice. Fresh orange juice: 10/10 so tangy and delicious. I can't recommend it enough. Patatas bravas: 9/10 solid no complaints! Dessert Tapas: - bread dessert (Tarija): 11/10 amazing dessert that is creamy, cameralized, and has a mochi like texture. This fried chewy dessert is not too sweet and such an affordable price. - coconut pudding 9/10 solid and refreshing if you like flan - bread, chocolate oil, salt 7/10: I live the complex flavors. The chocolate mousse was light and the bread to mousse ratio was perfect. It's a smaller dessert tho I wouldn't recommend it if ur sharing. Service: amazing! Staff I'm everywhere so it was very easy to order more food. Also we were sitting buy the area where they made dessert and they allowed me to record them making it!! Comfortable ambiance great for date night or casual meals!!!

What a gem! Yes, it's a bit touristy -- but in the fun, festive, "you're on vacation and loving…read morelife" kind of way. Taverna El Glop wraps you up in its warm, lively atmosphere the second you walk in. We were a group of four, and from start to finish, we had an awesome time. The open kitchen is a great touch -- you can watch the chef in action, which adds to the energy and makes the whole experience feel more connected and authentic. We shared a bunch of dishes, and everything was on point. The paella was rich and delicious -- exactly what we came for. The patatas bravas were crispy, creamy, and gone in seconds, and the shishito peppers were the perfect salty, snacky starter. Of course, we had to get a pitcher of sangria (okay, maybe two), which was fruity, refreshing, and just strong enough to keep things festive. The space itself has this great, rustic charm -- complete with checkered tablecloths and even an old cigarette machine near the bar (haven't seen one of those since I was a kid -- aren't those banned in the U.S. now?). I don't smoke -- smoking sucks -- but it added a bit of unexpected nostalgia and character. Service was excellent. I always make a point to be friendly, ask people their names, and introduce myself -- and that's usually met with warmth. It definitely was here. The staff were quick, kind, and seemed to enjoy the place as much as we did. Personally, I loved it. It's the kind of place you remember -- not because it's fancy or trendy, but because it's fun, flavorful, and full of heart. Highly recommend if you're in the area.

The service is also great. The manager (Aptiom) even allowed us to dine in even without reservation. When we saw the wait list...it is long! MUST TRY THIS AWESOME PLACE! For food quality, service, and ambience i will rate this experience with 4.8.

Somewhere in the middle is a 1-2 year period where parts of Spain's community was shut down because of COVID or restricted in one way or the other. We were in Spain during May-June of this year and witnessed various businesses that were no more or maybe still hanging on my a thread. Our recent experience at La Yaya Amelia seemed to suggest the latter. La Yaya Amelia was recommended by our Hotel (1882) and was an easy couple block walk. We made a reservation, but as it turned out we were the only customers during our time there. This seems more like a locals place and it's corner neighborhood location would be hard to attract tourists, unless it were some hot foodie destination. On a side note, the owner's cute little dog charmed my wife, the shelter volunteer. At the beginning, the dog was wandering around and Gayle wasn't sure if he/she had a person. I looked up and told her that we can't the dog back with us to the USA. Her answer (and this wasn't her first dog siting in Spain) was that she'd already done the research and she agreed that it would be almost impossible to do so. But she still stayed on the case until she confirmed that it was indeed the owner's dog. La Yaya Amelia may not be the Catalan version of the French Laundry, but it was a damn fine place to eat. We both ordered off the "specials" list, me choosing steak and Gayle opting for fish. Add wine, bread, homemade dessert, and expresso, we left full and happy. Our service was great, yet the guy running the place seemed a little worn out and sad, as we were the business so far in the evening. So, if anyone is reading this review right now and you're thinking of Lunch or Dinner in the Sagrada Familia area, what are you waiting for?
