We used to really like Stark's as a convenient lunch restaurant to meet family and friends who weren't skiing. But, this season their menu has shrunk and the service has gone downhill. While our server was nice, the management was terrible. We noticed that they charged us $4 more than listed on the menu for the bottle of wine we got. (This isn't about $4, it's about their shady business practices). When we pointed it out to our very nice server, she said she'd talk to her manager. She came back and told us her manager said, "well it's wrong on the menu and the higher price is correct." Ummm, no, that's not how it works, so we asked to see her manager. "Vlad" the manager came and after we called him out on his shady comments, said he'd honor the menu price. Oh wow, thanks so much for honoring the menu pricing and for trying to make your nice young female server be complicit in your shady practices. Located in the hotel of Viewline - so great location if you are staying there. Great food on the buffet- I highly recommend that. View of slopes, but only from bar. Lots and lots of employees milling about, but everyone seemed to be in slow motion. I had to ask 3 different people for lemon slices before I got them. Wake up, staff! read more

The food itself is okay and the price isn't horrible. The lobby bar upstairs I felt had better food options. One thing to note is that this restaurant charges an auto gratuity. Now I know it's my fault for not reviewing the bill before I pay but there was so many random named charges like coffee upgrade $2 x 3 and espresso shot $4 and add on blah blah and gluten free the receipt had a lot going on so I didn't think to look for a HIDDEN service fee. I told the check stand host and she said she would notify her manager but he never came around. I wasn't expecting anything I just wanted to make sure my feelings about setting an expectation of an auto gratuity is already set. That way I can choose to give more or not. I always tip at MINIMUM 22% especially since the employees are next level attentive. I was very disappointed in this situation. To Stark's credit, the kitchen's technique is quite good. UNFORTUNATELY, the menu is wholly unimaginative, the base ingredients are of lower quality than the price point demands and the service staff is quite novice. We find ourselves in the Aspen/Snowmass/Basalt area often and have been dazzled by the talent is such a small region. On the very high end, the scene is great. However, the middle ground where Stark exists is on par with any midwest town diner off the interstate. To be specific about Stark, the ambiance is inviting. Hostess desk is a bit standoffish but that seems to be the norm in Snowmass/Aspen. The servers seem to rush you through the meals without asking if that is the pace you were looking for when choosing a steak house (it rarely is). On this visit we started with the artichoke dip. The dip has one note, that isn't really centered on the artichoke and is served with standard tortilla chips of grocery store quality. I had the ribeye which was cooked to perfection but a very poor quality cut, less than 1" thick and sinuous. The waitress felt that it was their standard. My wife had the filet mignon, again cooked to perfection and perhaps the better cut one expects. My son, enjoyed the lobster negro, a black pasta dish with a shallow, u offending but unimaginative fare. On the side we had the Stark frits which are "average." We didn't stay for dessert but they admittedly sounded fantastic. All in after tip, this $300 meal was just a disappointment. read more

I started my day by having breakfast here. I had the three egg omelet with mushrooms, cheddar cheese, and sausage and an orange juice. It was good but plan on dropping $30 for breakfast. The OJ alone was $6. The only complaint I would have is some more attention to visiting the customer. I had to wait a long time for refills and ask the manager for the check. I went back for diner and decided to try the filet, medium rare, with Yukon Mashed Potatoes, broiled Asparagus, peppercorn sauce and chives. The steak was cooked perfectly and mashed potatoes nice and creamy. The asparagus was small and the plate looked rather empty upon presentation. I then noticed they missed the peppercorn sauce and chives. I asked about them and it took them a long time to come back (I was almost done with the meal) and they informed me that they didn't have any more peppercorn sauce. That was disappointing since that's something I wanted when I chose to spend the $45 on the meal. The manager came over and apologized and said the kitchen failed to inform them that they were out. I then asked about the chives. She said she didn't know I didn't have them and would talk to the kitchen. She said she would adjust my bill for the disappointment. The servers were kind and most likely exchange students due to their heavy accents. They apologized and I appreciated that. There were only about 3-5 people in the restaurant when I was there. It was very slow. I was finished with my meal and had to wait for my bill a long time. Long enough for me to write this review and post the pics. I finally asked for my bill. They made a 25% discount. Plan to spend about $50 per person for a meal. read more

This review is only for breakfast. We had free breakfast at the hotel every morning as part of our Marriott points, so that was a plus. I think my favorite was the granola and yogurt parfait. Or the lox and bagel. There aren't many options on the menu for breakfast but they also have a breakfast buffet for $30 a person. The service was always a little slow each day, but it was always busy during breakfast. Coffee is included with your meal, which is also a plus. If you're staying at the hotel and can get a free breakfast, it's a great alternative since there aren't many affordable options in the area. read more

Came on new years eve around 6. The dining room looks more like a cheap hotel buffet breakfast area converted for dinner. Terrible lighting and many of the booths face the main thoroughfare whivh has cheap black liners and awful bright lights. Tons of staff traffic too and pretty noisy. The food i will say was good, but isnt that a small part of a vacation dining mountain experience? read more

The first impression of this place is, it's very nice. We felt a little under dressed but i didn't see anything about a dress code. My husband and I had been hiking, so we were not dressed fancy. It's inside the Viewline hotel and it is the floor below the reception area. When we got into the hotel we asked where the restaurant was and the receptionist directed us there. The hostess was very nice and seated us quickly. The decor is modern. At first glance I was excited about the menu. I ordered the steak and hubs, who did the ragnar the day before, ordered the burger. He was just craving a really good burger so bad. While I wanted to enjoy this place so much, it just fell short. Their staff is excellent and the ambiance is fabulous, if only the food was up to par. My husband said his burger reminded him of a McDonald's double cheese. My steak was cooked perfectly. I asked for medium rare, and that's exactly what I got. The downside is that there was absolutely no seasoning. No salt, no pepper, nothing. I had to season it myself with S & P to make it palatable. The french fried that i got reminded me of McDonalds french fries and the truffle aioli was the consistency of soup and bland. When i asked about the consistency they said that is just how they make it. The service was actually amazing. The girl who waited on us was sweet and prompt. The martini I got was really good. Honestly, if this place could step up the game on their menu I think they could be amazing. The service and ambiance were awesome, but the food just fell very short. Went here out of season. They were pretty much out of everything. No Fat Tire, no skirt steak, no peppercorn dressing for the filet. We ordered the Salmon Avocado app. Would not recommend. Very fishy for sashimi grade salmon. Sent it back. The filet was just okay. Just expect better for a tab over 100 for 2 beers and 2 steaks. read more

A beautiful remodel to the former Westin restaurant space in Snowmass Village. There are some kinks to iron out as it JUST opened last week, but Looks lime a winner. :) Timing and training were a bit of an issue but the food was excellent and management was very attentive. The heat went out which was not the fault of the owners/mgt and they were apologetic. The BTG wine list was small and several were not available but the managers were helpful. We liked both the salmon caesar salad (light and lemony) and the traditional Italian salad with salami, Parmesan and green olives. The pigs in a blanket were a bit doughy but decadent and delicious and the mustard sauce was tops. The truffle mac and cheese was light on the truffle but delightful. The vodka sauce rigatoni was perfect - and not a giant portion which was fine. Shrimp Scampi seemed expensive for an appetizer but was enough for an entree and very tasty. The Ribeye Steak Frites seemed too lean to be Ribeye but was also very good and prepared as promised. Fries were crispy and the bread was warm and butter just salty enough. Staff needs some training and experience but they were polite and attentive. Overall - it seems like a welcome addition to the Snowmass dining scene! read more

i am so upset with our service at this restaurant. we were celebrating a birthday and barely talked to anyone working. the food was okay but we waited an hour and a half for our entrees. i am extremely upset with this especially because it is aspen and i know the servers here are held to a high standard. we also tried to talk to the manager and he hid from us for the rest of the night, yes you heard me right, hid! absolutely despicable! read more
