An amazing smelling burger joint in downtown Carbondale. The menu has lots of options and most are burgers with some other proteins, hot dogs, salads, etc. They only offered canned drinks or bottled Mexican coke (if you know you know) The restaurant is small with limited indoor seating but an outdoor patio in the front and back (back was closed as it was November which is usually much colder) The burgers were cooked to perfection and messy in the best way possible. I had the double standard, which comes with two grass fed beef patties, American cheese, lettuce, tomato, grilled onion (yum!), pickles and house sauce. The fries are cooked to order in canola oil and just divine. They were salted well and a little thin but not matchstick small. The onion rings were the BOMB. Fried to golden brown they were crunchy, hot and something I will have to order the next time. Ask for extra napkins and enjoy! read more

I love this place but tonight was not good! The burgers were dry, overcooked, and extra greasy. The fries were sopping wet in oil. I tried to put them in the air fryer to dry them out, but they went straight to the trash. The burgers went in the trash after eating less than half of them. For reference, I had a Standard & my husband had the double pepper burger with egg. I usually enjoy this indulgence a few times a year, but I'll be moving on. read more

When we arrived, it was not busy at all. In fact, we were the only customers for about 20 minutes. There was a staff of three behind the counter. We ordered, paid for our dinners and tipped in cash. The dining area in the back was filthy. There was food on the floor and the floor was actually sticky. We sat at the least dirty table. One of our chairs had food smeared on the seat, so we got another and then noticed that there was food and some kind of sauce down the entire side of a bar stool, other chairs were in similar shape and tables had not been cleaned. We purchased our cans of soda and looked for ice, but they didn't have ice or cups. When we got it, the food was almost inedible. Our burgers were overcooked and dry, french fries were very greasy. We tried to eat the food but just gave up and left. The food and service here was great starting out and we had high hopes. However, it's been uneven in recent years, and this is now just unacceptable, especially at the prices they charge. The back room has also gone from "rustic" to "dilapidated". We ordered the BBQ burger & chicken tenders, plus onion rings and fries. We decided no to order drinks as we were heading back to our hotel. The server asked if we wanted house dressing or ranch with our order for the chicken tenders and onion rings. We said we'd like the house dressing for both. We waited about 10 minutes (not bad at all) and got our food. When we got to the hotel we noticed she only gave us 1 small container of ranch. No house dressing or anything else. The burger was the size of a hamburger from McDonald's and the chicken was pretty dry. The fries were way too salty and the onion rings were almost cooked too much. We ate some of the food but threw the rest away. It was inedible. So disappointing after spending $30. This place serves burgers, has a kids menu, serves ice cream & some sandwiches/wraps. You can dine in, take out or place a pick up order. We don't recommend this place and save your $ for another place. Such a disappointment. read more

I love this place! I stopped by here two years ago while camping through the area, and it left a great impression on me. I often recalled it as the awesome burger place off in the mountains past Aspen. Well, today I happened to make a 2-hour addition to my summer road trip just because I had a hankering for these delicious, tasty burgers. I added the onion rings this time and boy did they not disappoint one bit! Had me the pepper burger with a Mexican Coke. So worth the fasting meal of cinnamon toast crunch for breakfast! The pepper burger is delicious, but it has a kick. If you're afraid of spicy, stick to the original and you'll be just fine. Also grabbed me a regular burger, but with lamb. Took a bite in my truck and it's as tasty as the beef. No difference really. Just a delicious and much better rendition of In-N-Out if you ask me. If the Cali chain actually made them this good, I'd gladly hang up my Texas Whataburger boots in a hot minute! Yeehaww! read more

I lived in Carbondale for 3 years and have eaten MANY amazing kale salads at Fatbelly. Im a vegetarian, so I've tried all the options and can conclude that their veggie burger/portabello burger is the basic, noob choice. Because the loaded grilled cheese is like SO good. I can't seem to replicate their house sauce? I literally bought a panini press to try and replicate that sandwich. The saddest part about not living there anymore is I can no longer have those perfectly cooked sweet potato fries alongside the world's most incredible grilled cheese. PS I am lactose intolerant and have celiac's so my review should count for double because I literally am willing to go through h e l l to eat their loaded grilled cheese. In conclusion, the staff there is wonderful and their service is prompt. I've never had any real complaints about the food. Fatbelly is family-friendly and wallet-friendly. However, let it be noted that you should plan to sit outside (they have heating lamps for wintertime) as indoors seating, though existent, is limited. read more

What's up FB? I've been eating here since the first week it opened.It's been awhile since I've gone there, as I don't eat burgers that often. I just stopped by hungry and craving a FBB. There were only a few people at outside tables on a late Sunday afternoon, so I figured it would be a good time to do a take-out on my way home. WRONG. Gave a 20 % tip and patiently waited to have my order made. It took about 15 minutes, but no big deal. Just as it was ready, a guy pulled up and the order was given to him. How do I know it was my order? I was the only one up next before he pulled up and nothing else was on the grill. I asked if it was my order and the kid said, "Yeah, but he called for a pickup." Well, okay, but that's kind of rude since I'd already been waiting almost 20 minutes for mine. So he says, "We were running out of fries, so they told me to give it to him, otherwise HE would have had to wait for more fries to be cooked." Really? So, now I'm sitting for another 15, no one apologizes and it basically takes 30-minutes to get my to-go order. I get home and chalk it up to a one-off. I sit down to eat and the burger is ice cold, and the bun is hard as a rock, likely because it was cooked 15 minutes before the new fries were ready. It all went in the trash. Just called to say the experience was really pretty rude and I won't be going back anytime soon. read more

Fatbelly-hmm, we out of a lot of stuff, it's the end of the day. Me- ok, we will take what you have. We will take a combo of burgers and dogs if that helps. Fatbelly- I don't think we can take an order that big. Me- ok, no problem, we are out. We order pizza. Seemed fairly clear it wasn't a supply issue, but a temporal one. Best burger I've had in Colorado since I moved here 20+ yrs ago. Originally from Los Angeles, I grew up with In-n-Out Burgers, the best anywhere. This is the closest one since it's made fresh with quality products. Don't even think of getting another fast food burger in this area where they will always be served out from under heat lamps and the buns are usually stale. This is the only place in Colorado where I will order a hamburger. Except when In-n Out opens in Colorado Springs next year.... For those complaints about service, it's a HAMBUGER STAND IN THE MOUNTAINS people, not The Broadmoor. Expect accordingly. read more

OK, I didn't have a burger here but everything else was fantastic. Fatbelly saved an afternoon ice cream disaster for us. We visited a local ice cream shop - their system was down - and we found this place by a lucky Yelp search. Ya-hoo for that. We had chicken fingers, a lemony, mint cabbage slaw AND ice cream cones. I tried the key lime, and also tasted the strawberry and a chocolate something or other. Fantastic food and the service was friendly and helpful. Maybe next time I'll try a burger! read more

It was an insult to put me on the spot from the manager, Yolanda/Daniel In front of everyone asked for a tip when there was A bucket full of money was right in front of me 15 or 20%, were my choices, as he scurried away with the bucket as if someone one was going to steal it . After I mentioned that he offended with the greediness & blamed #Covid for his actions. There are many people who in a bad situation during Covid & aren't even working right now, and to have to feel like you have to tip for someone paid hourly...who only hands your food to you @ a #burgerstand. I could've went next door to the nice sit down restaurant in Carbondale for the same price & have a real waitperson for the same money & they actually earn and deserve to be tipped. Horrible experience. My husband and I just drove up from Golden to visit our son and soon to be wife who live and work, here, as professionals. Much to our dismay after waiting one half hour or more for our food, the table next to ours was enjoying exactly the same meal we ordered. It was given to them. Not only were they rude (and, with small children they should know better than to be such poor role models), but, the cashier behind the counter was rude and did not even refund the full amount. She kept the tip. I have to say, in the worldly travels my husband and I have been fortunate to make, never have experienced such lack of customer service, accountability, or lack of concern. This is our favorite stop after long bike ride or hiking at mushroom trail. We loved the juicy tender burgers and warm service here, ( my fav is the chicken standard and sweet potato fries, yum!) Check out the price, it's the cheapest in the valley ( please don't change it) thank you. They also served really good ice cream for a hot summer, hmmm. Take this for what it is Yelper's, a hamburger stand. But at that, they surpass most others. What Fatbelly lacks in creativity and options (there aren't any) they make up for in quality beef and a burger done right. Too many places try too hard and end up creating a burger that's more about them than the burger. At Fatbelly it's just a burger - and it's a damn good one! The meat comes from one of those grass-fed pasture-raised ranches in the west (not feed lot corn fed crap). In short, the way beef is supposed to be raised and the way it's supposed to taste. Yummy. The bun is soft (unlike this shingle of a bun I'm currently consuming at The Brick Oven Cafe in Crested Butte (review to follow)). The other basics ingredients are fresh. Great little stop in town with patio seating which allows pups. I got the kale quinoa salad and added chicken which was very fresh and tasty. Sweet potatoe fries were cooked perfect. My husband really liked the barbecue burger. For the health conscious there are lettuce wrap and veggie options. Definitely stop by when you are in town. read more

I was in town for the week, and I have tried a few different restaurants in Carbondale, but I wanted a quick bite on my last night in town. I drove by Fatbelly Burgers and could see the kitchen through the window from the road, and I could see the people waiting for food and I knew right away this was gonna be good! Sooo glad I stopped in... Got the Double Standard with Swiss cheese and fries to go. The burger was A-MAZ-ING! After the first bite I couldn't stop eating! I powered through it so fast I was surprised because it was quite large! The fries were pretty good too. Hand cut and still warm after my drive back to the hotel. My only suggestion would be to send to-go orders in a plastic bag. There is so much juice coming from the burger that it almost soaked through the bag!
