Decent drinks and music. Not the best bar on the strip but it is the cheapest. The dance floor way too small. And the crowd is a bit older at times so not that great if you are in college but cheap drinks so kinda worth it I guess. Been to brass monkey prior with no issues and had no idea they now enforce a no neck tattoo rule. My partner is a veteran, a 4.0 college student and isnt anything close to "trouble maker" but because she has neck tattoos (one that's a movie character and one that's an album cover) she couldn't get in. How does a bar put such a negative connotation on neck tattoos. I usually make sure to stop here when I come into town, it's been a while since I've been here and I don't know what's happened but this place sucks now! First I was at another bar on the strip and I heard people calling it "Trash Monkey" , that honestly should of been a red flag, but I still went expecting to have a great night like I use to, boy was I wrong ! The place was overly crowded, like ridiculously uncomfortable, I definitely couldn't dance freely or walk around without touching someone else. Then I tried to get a drink and the bartender was calling me to take my order and I had a bouncer at the same time tell me I needed to move along, it was so unorganized and chaotic and I ended up having to get back in line. I finally got my drink and was trying to enjoy myself even though I was constantly being bumped due to how over crowded it was, so I went outside to order another drink. I tried ordering a well vodka outside, and the bartender told me she only had top shelf outside and if I wanted well vodka I would have to go back to the bartender I ordered from inside bar! And as if it couldn't get any worse, I went to use the restroom and was told I needed to go to the other restroom on the other side of the bar because the line was to long at the women's restroom, so I had to fight my way through the dumpster fire crowd of people to get to the restroom, when I finally got there a guy who I'm assuming is a bouncer opens the door for me and there's literally no privacy between the two toilets, and he lets me and another girl in, so I'm peeing next to another women who is a complete stranger to me which I do in every public restroom but at least there is a stall door for some sort of privacy, I was just hoping the girl next to me didn't finish before me otherwise she could have opened the door for everyone to see! It was just so embarrassing! Then they didn't even have paper towels or hand soap in that restroom! After all that my friends and I just left! It was definitely "Trash Monkey" ! My friends are the ones that showed me brass and every time I go I have a blast but these past couple of times I go by myself I notice things that annoy me. Like the bar tenders are pushy for mediocre drinks. security has no idea what goes on and they don't even have info for anything. The DJ booth and anyone who is associated with it are full of themselves. The shirt events for emo night are poorly put together. Told the security about people cutting and they said how are we supposed to know it's literally you're fu**ing job to know what goes on. I waited an hour and 30 min to try and get a shirt and I kept seeing people just cut the line. I am very upset but I'm more upset for the people who actually deserved it like the guy next to me was such a sweetheart and he wasn't even dressed properly for the cold weather man was freezing he definitely deserved one!!! I would literally have to suck a workers d**k for a shirt. All the ladies who get benefits you know who you are. This experience left me with such a disgusting taste in my mouth and I am so disappointed not only in that establishment but in people. Texas is already bad enough and boring but this was the cherry on top. Selfish people will get what they deserve I would tie your shoe laces before you fall and break your favorite tooth and or lose your wallet. I'm always recommending places but this one I will not be recommending anymore. This spot is definitely a dive bar, but it's a lovable one. I went last night for BeyDay (Beyonce's Bday, obviously), a very special edition of ThurzGayz. Usually on Thursdays, they play indie dance and it's so great. That's my jam. But even more my jam? Queen Bey. There was a small line waiting to get in, and a lot of young college kids, but no cover. The crowd got a lot bigger and more diverse as the night went on, and the music was great. As the night went on, i left it all on the dance floor and I sweat out all my cheap drinks, including my BeyHive shot and my boozy watermelon raspa. The crowd was so excited and supportive, with people complimenting each other on their Beyonce themed outfits and everyone singing along with the songs. Is this Heaven? Who knew it would be so dingy, but wonderful. If you come on the weekends, they play 80s and New Wave/Electro, and the lines can be super outrageous. The bathroom situation is definitely a little sketchy, with lines out the door so you can see everything happening inside. There's a patio if you want to take a breather from the dance floor. So I ended up just taking the well liquor .. then I went to the bartender on the far left to reinsure the special was $2 for any liquor And then he clarified that both drinks I requested were acceptable for the special. As I was guided to the man checking IDs, they tell us after I walk over to him and without checking my ID, oh no neck tattoos on Sunday nights! I didn't even know this was still a thing! They don't serve any kind of craft cocktails- just stuff that they can squirt out of a bar drink gun and a bottle. The beer is cold and the music is loud. Drinks are cheap. Super cheap. Brass Monkey is often the source of problems on the N St Mary's Strip, and they got listed as one of SA's bars most mentioned in DWI arrests. They've been cracking down on people throwing them out if they look the slightest bit intoxicated. It's kind of menacing with the bouncers frisking you at the door, and standing around with ear pieces and crossing their arms looking severe. Their brand of security seems excessive, and the black out drunks end up getting tossed out on the streets where it's someone else's problem. The place isn't clean. It smells of Axe Body Spray and beer. The floor is usually sticky from all the cocktails that get spilled when the DJ spins Selena. The bathrooms are in rather horrid condition, one of the dirtiest restrooms in the entire city of San Antonio. Lively crowd with all your top 80s hits. I think the DJ plays the same playlist every weekend. I have only been to Brass twice and my husband and I swore it was not only the same songs but they were also in the same order. Good thing is no cover charge. So disappointed and angry with our brass monkey visit. I highly recommend some racial sensitivity training for the security officers and management!! Tonight we went out to brass monkey and a few people in the group were smoking a tobacco juul. Despite multiple people smoking the juul, one friend was racially profiled. He was individually approached and escorted out by multiple security persons without question for "smoking a joint." We insisted he nor anyone else had any weed and they refused to do a search or listen. This was an obvious case of racial profiling and racist policing as Our friend, who is black, was singled out for behavior that multiple people in the group were exhibiting at the same time. Do!!!!
