Repeat customers and let me start by saying that we had great service on our recent visit. We chose Ironhand due to their warm atmosphere, wines and gf friendly menu. We called ahead and we were able to get a table on little notice. Our server, Liz was quick to take our orders and offer suggestions. We split a bottle of the staff recommended Cabernet Franc, it was very good. Our group each ordered flatbreads, however when I ordered I forgot to ask for gf. When the food came out, I quickly told our server that I made a mistake and could she box mine up and put an order in for a gf flatbreads. Liz, quickly thanked me for offering but said that the kitchen could make me a new one and they wouldn't charge me. That wasn't necessary because it was my fault, but what great customer service. I visited Saturday and had high expectations. It was restaurant week and I made reservations. The venue is beautiful love the decor and vibe. However there were only a few patrons. The waitress did not provide the drink menu and the appetizer we ordered she suggested against getting. We appreciated her honesty and the food we did order was amazing. The wine flight I had was good however our waitress never came over to check up on me. The table beside us received the wine and food specials, we never heard them. Overall good wine and food but would not recommend. The staff needs to be educated about wine and service. read more

Another great outing at Ironhand. The highlight was definitely the sweet potato fries. They were sprinkled with Tajin and paired with a citrus sriracha aioli, which was absolutely delicious. The flatbread was good, but nothing too special and some of the avocados were underripe. And some small bites. As well as some flatbreads. We went here before a concert at the armory. It was a little busy, mainly at the bar. But the concert was awesome!! CJ Field and Ira Dern did not disappoint like the service here. Ok, so as I wait here for my food watching food sit in The service window not being served, my star rating is dropping. It is frustrating to see people who weren't even here when we ordered get their food before us. And unfortunately we are going to a concert and though the bar is now slammed it seems they don't know how to handle it. Too bad I had high hopes walking in. Absolutely gorgeous winery (even the bathroom was large & elegant). I tried 4 different wines: Cab Franc rosè - It was fine - light & easy. Dry Riesling - Not a fan. For a 2019, it tasted much older - heavy petrol notes & not much fruit or acidity left. It was probably much better a few years ago. Riesling/Grüner Veltliner - Better than the Riesling, but not great. Sparkling Rosè - So good! I liked this one so much I bought two bottles to take home. The food was impressive. We ordered more than we should have (The "small plates" are not that small!), but prices were very reasonable, so no complaints there. The burrata, smoked salmon, and Parmesan truffle fries were all delicious. Our server was very good. She seemed a bit new but was very friendly & attentive. The only slight negative is that I was brought a very obviously dirty wine glass. There was red wine clearly visible around the top of the glass before anything had been poured. I swapped for a clean one, so no biggie, but they need to actually LOOK at the glasses before they bring them to the table. They offer 15% off two bottles if you dine in, and they waive the tasting fee with a $40 bottle purchase. On 8/13/25 I went to the Ironhand Wine Bar for the first time. I ordered an Upland Brewery beer which I thought would be a draft but was in a can. I was charged $7.00 for the beer plus I was AUTOMATICALLY charged $1.40 for a 20% tip--how AUDACIOUS. Then, the bill also includes a line for the customer to also write an ADDITIONAL TIP. This place has a lot of guts trying to gouge the customers like that. I will never go back to Ironhand ever again. I am surprised that this place is still in business. Apparently, many of their customers don't mind being taken advantage of. Also, the place seemed to be very mediocre in general. I WAS NOT IMPRESSED. read more

This is a great location that has a vibe not unlike a modern industrial barn that serves wine, craft beers, and flatbreads. The service could be better, as they seem to be understaffed, but I mean, who isn't understaffed these days anyway. I got a tall pour of a Michigan chardonnay and my husband got a "Bad Elmer's Porter" Notes of chocolate and coffee in that one, and mine was sharp on the front, but creamy on the back end. We got 2 flatbreads, steak and mushrooms, and a pepperoni peppadew. It was hard because this seemed to be one of those times when your order gets out at the most inopportune time...starving and have somewhere to be... Our wait person took 20% off the bill, but we would have gladly paid full amount to get our food on time. It was hard watching tables that arrived 10, 15, 20 minutes after us, receiving their delicious looking food. We figured it out, got out flatbreads, made it to the concert, but instead of relaxing, it was frustrating. The food was good, I enjoyed the flatbread, I love mushrooms, less enjoyed the pepperoni one... Anyway, I'm sure that this place is cool and the food is good, libations are to the alcoholic percentage of your choice, but for us at this moment, it was less than what we hoped for, and that was just disappointing no matter the concessions you make. What a great date night spot. We love sitting at the bar tasting various wines and sharing appetizers. I tend to order the Washington Syrah, but the Cabernet Franc is also good (I've only tried the reds). The Brie is delicious, the whipped feta and olives is wonderful and you can't NOT get the Parmesan truffle fries. Yum. We've also ordered the Arugula and Honeycriso salad and the Pepperoni & Peppadew flatbread. The staff is friendly and they are eager to help. Can't wait to go back! read more

After the second time coming here, I decided to yelp. Appetizers are marvelous, super tasty and shareable. The first time there we shared the brie and bacon jam which was great. We had the steak brie and mushroom flatbread pizza which was just room temperature and ok. This time our group shared the same brie bacon jam again. Our server forgot to veing it out and when she remembered it was a little dried on the top but still tasty. We shared burrata which was excellent! The pesto was flavorful and all together the appetizers was fresh and light. I had the steak egg and mushroom wrap. It was just ok. Again room temperature. Food-3.5 -4 star - they need to learn temperatures #1 and more seasoning in main courses Service 1.5-2 star. Both times the service has been terrible. First time our server rarely came without us getting his attention. The second time our server was not quick and left for long periods. We were sitting for 10minutes without drinks or ordering. We got drinks ordered and asked what the specials were. Meanwhile we see our server hugging and chatting with another table for over 10 minutes. Then their order was taken, we asked her if we could order now. This is when she remembered our brie. She didn't offer what the specials were we had to ask. One guest was considering the Sweet Spot and she was told there might be 1 left but she thought they were out. (They had been open for 30 minutes) We asked if she would check and there were 2 orders of a french toast with raspberries. Our server did run bsck to tell the kitchen 1 sold! We asked for more plates for sharing and she fotgot. There were a couple other things that were forgotten. We then sat waiting for our checks for another 15 minutes! Then the server assumed the reservation deposit was being split amoung checks. One of my friends paid for the reservation fee, so the server had to re-do the checks. This spot is super cute and was pretty empty on a Sunday for brunch. Tried the cinnamon roll, veggie and egg wrap and the quiche. I'd definitely recommend the quiche! Preset tasting flights are a good quantity and glasses are good sized pours too! If you can, try a mimosa too. read more

Ironhand is a great addition to South Bend! I went here two nights in a row this weekend and tried the 2016 Rosé (good!) and the Pinot Noir (even better!). The atmosphere is excellent - an awesome place to take visitors to the area. On the second night, our server was wonderful! She was very helpful, kind, and let us sample a couple of the different wines we were considering. This place is SO close to being a 5! Our group shared the cheese and charcuterie board last night and while the selection of meats was great, it was stingy on the cheese. We also felt that the majority of the tables (large, square, 8 tops) don't make it easy to sit and chat with your group. You have to shout across the table to your friends if you can't snag the nice spot with the couches and comfy chairs. Not sure that a place that mainly serves wine and small bites needs such massive tables. read more

We have been to the Ironhand Wine Bar on several occasions over the years. It is a great place for, as the name implies, wine. There is a wine and vintage for every taste. Some of the wine selections are bottled in the area from grapes grown in the owners' own vineyard. There is a nice selection of food and live entertainment as well. The ambiance is wonderful, the wait staff is professional and knowledgeable, the parking is plentiful, and the outdoor seating has a great view of the St. Joseph River. This is a nice--no great--place to wind down after a busy day or to start the night off with a wonderful smile. read more

We had made reservations for Sunday, June 16, 2024 at 11am for four. We showed up at 1055am. Upon walking in, the host, Sherry, was horrible rude in tone and demeanor. She took us to our indoor table, in which we asked if we were allowed to move outside. She said "fine" with a huff. She made us carry our own plates, silverware, and cups of water while walking away not ensuring we were following. Then upon arriving to the table, one of ladies with me needed to use to the restroom. Prior to her leaving, she had told us (our table) to order her the mimosa flight. Sherry then told us we needed to order that right now as flights were closing at noon due to how busy Ironhand would become. The time was not even 11am. This was stated with annoyance in tone and texture. We then had the most amazing server Roseann, with help of Rachel. Within a few minutes of being sat, Sherry returned to take your full menu back stating " we only have the Father's Day menu." This was very harshly stated! Then proceeded to grab them from our hands, not allowing us to hand them to her. Roseanne was then told about the experience. She must have told Sherry about the experience. As we were leaving, Sherry proceeded to state, " I heard you had a problem with me." It was stated very unpleasantly and harsh. She did not come to the table to apologize, but rather waited for us to leave. She was standing between the exit door and us. This was extremely triggering to the group as two of them were Veterans. This experience as a whole left a very bad taste in our mouths. We will not be returning. read more

This kills me to write, because my husband and I were here a month ago and absolutely loved it. Flatbread, chicken sandwich, truffle fries and wine were perfect. We've been really careful about COVID-19, and were looking for our first place to dine out in months. We scoped out the outdoor dining area here ahead of time and deemed it acceptable, once visiting we felt totally safe in the small outdoor dining area here. Bringing us to... today. Had a kid-free night and decided to do a date night at our new favorite place. Again sat outside on the patio, where there was apparently a separate waitress for each of the 4 tables. Fine, except ours was MIA. She took our drink order but ran off before we could put in an order for food. We asked another waitress to ask ours back out so we could order. She comes back; I order the caprese flatbread, husband gets wings & fries. There's live music and the place is somewhat busy, so we didn't mind waiting a little longer than usual for our food. Flatbread and wings are pretty good! Waitress says fries will be out in a few minutes. 20 minutes later, when we're done eating, waitress brings out the fries, with no apology or explanation for the delay. By this point, since we're done eating and don't particularly want French fries for dessert, we explain we no longer want the fries. This is where it gets weird. I should mention I've never in my life complained about anything like this and will typically just suck it up. The waitress brings the bill and tells us that because they were busy, and the fries apparently are some special recipe that takes a ridiculous about of time, we should have known they would take longer than the rest of our food and wouldn't take them off the bill. We then wait ten minutes for the manager, who unfortunately doesn't seem like a great fit for a customer service role. Honestly, if there has been some sort of apology, we would have rolled it off and went about our day. But these people acted like we were trying to scam them out of the $9 fries (that never set foot on our table). I loved this place so much and raved about it to all my friends, I'm just disappointed that it's off the rotation after such a weird and unfortunate experience tonight. read more

Stopped by on the way to a charity event and the place was very busy. Found a couple seats at the bar and promptly got menus. Ordered a wine and a beer, and things were fine. Like most small wineries or breweries the drink list is not extensive but appeared to have something for everyone. Same goes for the food, but never got to actually try any. Ordered food after being there 10 min, checked on it 20 min later and still not out but bartender assured us that it was coming. Then we started to noticed others who came in after us getting food, so 40 min later our food never came up so we decided to leave. Conversation with the bartender was that they are normally not "that" busy and that the kitchen was overwhelmed. Appears that they have a light food menu and are more accustomed to operating as a wine bar and cannot easily function as a full restaurant. Good ambience, good location, so will try again and can hopefully upgrade their rating. read more

Just had my husband's 50th birthday at Ironhand last evening. The food and drinks were excellent! The service was out of the this world! The manager was flexible and accommodating to make sure the food and drink offerings included my husband's favorites. Our server, Sherrie, was so attentive and made sure to take care of us - all 40 of us! Really great place to have a party or meet a few friends for dinner! Even if you aren't a wine aficionada, there are plenty of other drink options for you. All of my guests commented how wonderful the food and drinks were, the atmosphere, and, of course, the service! When all of our wedding plans fell through during COVID we reached out to Ironhand 2 days before our rehearsal dinner to see if the private space was open. They quickly responded and helped up set up a special evening for our family. The food and wine was AMAZING, the ambiance unmatched and the customer service was top notch.
