We had a wonderful meal at the Brasserie in the corner; a large inviting space with friendly service and a focus on steaks and seafood. We were seated at a lovely table alongside a window so were able to watch the street activities with the off and on rain of early June. The broad menu tempted us to share starting with the delicious crab claw appetizer-about 6-8 small crab claws served in a buttery garlic sauce that you pick up and eat. Next we enjoyed the savory Caesar salad absolutely loaded with crispy bacon on a bed of butter lettuce. We split a 8 oz. Beef filet for our main and chose the rich whiskey peppercorn sauce as the topping. The meal came with fries/chips and there was fresh bread throughout the meal. There's a nice wine list and drinks menu. The frozen "parfait" with chocolate and baileys (more like a slice of ice cream) was a fitting end to the meal. This was one of those magical experiences where we didn't have a reservation, didn't know what we were looking for, and just happened to stumble upon Brasserie on the Corner. We entered through Blake's Bar and had a bit of a Harry Potter moment when we walked up a few steps to find that the space keeps going - opening up into a warm, rich interior with welcoming, friendly people and food that was just delicious. Definitely order the Galway Goat Cheese Croquettes. I had the Ribeye (locally sourced) and it was cooked to perfection. My wife had the Wild Atlantic Baked Tiger Prawns and loved them. They had some of the best soda bread I've had while in Galway. Flavorful and nutty but also light. The beef croquettes were excellent. The sauce that came with them was creamy and savory. The beef was perfectly tender and seasoned. The beef croquettes were my favorite. The Hake and risotto was their special for the evening. Actually going to do a review while I'm still fresh in my mind. Arrived at 530 this morning, had a meeting at 11 and really didn't have much time for breakfast so by the time I got here I was starving. It was cloudy, cool type of day (I will never see the sun again I do fear) so I was itching for something comforting. Let me say, this spot is situated on St. Mary and Eglington and what gave me very little comfort was that it seems vehicles can drive however they want up and down Eglington. Cars and trucks were parked facing this way and that, thank goodness for plenty of taxis (I guess ride sharing isn't available in Ireland) to get me to and fro. First of all, let me just say I couldn't believe how many restaurants were in the general vicinity, anything you could imagine: Italian, Chinese, Lebonese, Sushi, but I didn't see Indian so I might have found my way into being an emigrant. So it was nice that I was taken to a more modern take on traditional Eire fare. They label themselves a wine bar and restaurant, and while there expansive wine list proves this to be true, they do pass over their 7 trillion whisky choices they provide, including a special cupboard filled with prestige whiskys. HOLY SMOKES!!! I passed up on the Irish tonic and had a stout and we started with the seafood board, mainly cause I've never had a seafood board prior. It was absolutely splendid. If I had a complaint, it would be that it wasn't large enough for me to get my fill. The prawns were the perfect level of spice, the cod was perfectly fried, and while I'm not normally a fan of the pate, adding BBQ to it was ingenious. I followed this up with the fish and chips, because of course I have to. It would be insane for me not to have it but I do regret choosing it. Not because it was poorly made, but because the cod was the same we had on the board and it was really nothing above and beyond what I've had previously. I should have gone with my first instinct and had the salmon sandwich. It is a mistake I won't make again, but once again, I was quite happy with the food itself. The service was very good. It was lunch time and the staff was still very attentive to my group. The price of the food was spot on to what we got so no complaints there. If this trip to Galway becomes a regular happening I can't wait to come back and try their a la carte menu and a few other items. read more

In one word, this place was heavenly. While we were in the area, this was a recommendation from our Airbnb host, and it was so worth it. The place is very speakeasy themed, with dark rich colors, and honestly, if I could, would be the color pallete of my house. When you first order your food, they bring out an appetizer of bread. There were three different breads, with some fresh, soft butter. All were delicious, but the Soda Bread was my favorite. We had ordered the mussels as an appetizer. We were literally drinking the sauce after we devoured the mussels. They were in this creamy garlic wine sauce that you could either enjoy on its own or dip your remaining bread in (if you had any left). For our entrees, my husband got the steak, I got the special of the night which was a steak, onion ring, and potatoes, and then our friend got their fish special. All were delicious, the only negative was the potatoes ,were basically just barely cooked large potatoes that none of us ate. Recommended by the lovely staff at the Garvey as well as the Yelp community, we stopped by during our tour of Ireland for dinner. Our waitress was excellent -- pleasant, helpful, and efficient.
