I was really impressed with this French cafe style spot in Sterling, from the decor to the service to the cocktails. I would recommend a reservation because with rain outside aka the patio being closed, the whole inside was packed. A lot of the seats are super close which feels very European but you can hear most peoples conversations which can be annoying. Our waitress was really sweet and stopped by a bunch. We started with French 75's, hot coffee, and an espresso martini. The drinks were refreshing and quite large for the price. The espresso martini really reminded me of a grown up hot chocolate, I really enjoyed it. I later also got a cucumber vodka martini and it was one of the most refreshing drinks I've ever had - definitely the drink of the summer. For our food we started with the baked brie with fig and garlic and the escargot. The brie was a unique take on baked brie, I loved the way the flavors all melded and the fact the cheese wasn't completely spilling out everywhere. The escargot was soft with a phenomenal crumb/butter mix, the whole things really melded well and melted in your mouth. The bread served with it was nice as well, if only I had a bit more of it. For our mains we were here during brunch so we got the lobster omelet and the French onion soup with the side of fries. The french onion soup was great, a good amount of cheese and onions without being overwhelming. Fries were fantastic and quite large, a big portion for $7. We came here on a Friday night and we were only able to snag a reservation at 7:30 pm a few days in advance. I'd recommend making a reservation further in advance if you prefer an earlier dinner. The dining room is somewhat small, but it is nice and quaint. My friend and I both ordered the steak frites with modifications and they were able to accommodate us with is no issues. The food was a decent portion size, and I could not finish it in one sitting. Service was good and the ambiance is pleasant. Entrees and sides are a bit pricey, but the quality is there. The short ribs fell apart without a knife bc they were sooo tender and the desserts were expertly crafted. I might go back just for dessert yum!! My husband loved the homemade baguette although I wonder if it's because the butter was so good; the bread itself was a little hard for me and of course room temp as is typical in France. I usually don't leave a review after the first visit, unless the experience was exceptional. Brasserie Royale is that kind of exceptional. The first thing that informed me that this was going to be a good first experience was being greeted at the door, simply to welcome me and inform that I would be seated soon. It's alarming just how few places provide that kind of genuine courtesy. The Monday duck confit special was excellent, and fork tender. While the wine list is not expensive, it is focused on what is good with their food. My table service from Eric also far exceeded what most restaurants provide these days. While the good and service were outstanding, there was no pretense in the decor or ambiance. Entering the restaurant felt like stepping into another place, and want you coming back for more. And yes. Tried this place last night with some friends. It wasn't too crowded on a Thursday night at 6 pm. We were seated in a few minutes and our server came to take drink orders right away. I got the beef burgonion and so did another friend. The third person ordered the tasting menu which was supposed to be shrimp cocktail, goat cheese ravioli, lamb chops and lavender ice cream. The lamb chops never came. Our server apparently forgot to put in the order. He initially offered to remove the cost but then asked if my friend wanted it to go (he did because he was still hungry) so the full price was included in the bill. No discount despite the error. The food was good but not great. The beef in my dish was tasty but crispy. Like they had broiled it. It wasn't bad but not exactly what I expected. My friend had a similar opinion about his meal. He got the crème brûlée and said it was one of the best he had. I tried it and it was good but not the best I've ever had. I got the profiteroles for dessert and they were good. Family had a reservation at 8:45 not knowing they closed at 9 and we showed up 12 minutes late. Luckily they were nice and let us in anyway. We made sure we ordered right away to avoid the kitchen closing on us. We ordered 3 Le Smash Américain burgers, Boeuf Bourguignon, kid's Salmon, and both garlic-herb and gruyére fondue frites. I had the burger which was really good, the buns were big but no big deal, nice and toasted still. The frites were amazing though. Some of the best I've ever had. The gruyére made it even better. We also ordered the profiteroles and it came with a nice dark chocolate sauce. Everyone loved that too. My hopes were so high trying Brasserie Royale! Especially because they are also owned by Local Provisions, one of my favorite spots to take people to! Upon arriving we were greeted and the reservation was found easily. We were walked to our table and took in the cute brasserie atmosphere. We could watch bread being cut and loved the pictures that were old school - with the juxtaposed modern theme this was a cool touch. The music didn't match the vibe and both me and my friend commented on it to each other. One major downside is how LOUD the restaurant is. We continually said "huh" and "what" throughout dinner. I ordered the Halibut, but it tasted fishy. My friend tried it and even commented it was fishy. The mashed potato's and mushrooms that complimented the dish were tasty and well seasoned, which saved the dish. The steak frites my friend ordered was not good. Despite looking and sounding tasty (thick cut and cooked in peanut oil) they were very soggy. I was hoping for a bit of texture. The steak was not done to order and came out too rare. The steak was cool and the herbed butter didn't even melt. There was zero to no seasoning on the steak and it lacked even a good sear. The meat itself was chewy, was not tender, and just a disappointment to eat. The service was great. Server was friendly and helpful, especially when recommending desserts, which stole the show! The sticky toffee pudding was incredible! The cream brûlée was very good as well. For the price of the meal (approx $38 each), the entrees were not quality. Super chic and modern. This restaurant opened just over a month ago.. love the wife and the decor. The server was nice. I ordered the halibut for the main course. The fish itself was perfectly cooked. The leeks were burnt. It was probably on purpose. But I am not too fond of anything burnt personally. But overall, it was a balanced dish. Being a dessert person, I was a bit disappointed with the dessert menu. We looked forward to giving this restaurant a try. Like its sister restaurant, Local Provisions, it's owned by the Stebner family. The husband runs Local Provisions while the wife runs Brasserie Royale. As of this writing, the restaurant is just over 2 months old. From what we saw, they are still working out some kinks. Still, they did hit the ground running. One thing we learned is that it's best to make any weekend reservations at least 2 weeks in advance. We were fortunate to be able to make one with just a day's notice. I suspect that was due to it being Labor Day weekend. The dining area is on the small side. We were seated at a two-top that had a narrow table. Also, you end up sitting rather close to the table next to you. The decor clearly says "French Bistro" given the photos and the fleur de lis on some panes of glass. Service from our server, Adrian, was impeccable. He was prompt getting to us and was quite familiar with the menu. I started off with a cocktail called "the aristrocrat" which was okay, if a bit strong. My husband got a glass of sauvignon blanc. I looked forward to trying "Julia Child's onion soup", which, sadly, turned out to be a disappointment. It arrived with the cheese having fallen to the bottom of the bowl and the pieces of bread on top were charred on one side. It could have and should have been more attractively presented. As for the flavor, despite the charred bread, the soup had a nice, sweet, oniony flavor. My husband started with a salad that was dressed in green goddess dressing and had lots of frisee in it. He did like his salad. We were given some bread and butter, which was good for sopping up sauce. For the main courses, I had Trout Almandine and chose not to have a side dish with it. The piece was large, properly fileted, moist and flaky. The almond portion was generous. A half of a lemon came with the trout but it only yielded a very small amount of lemon juice. My husband ordered the halibut which he enjoyed. We actually had room for dessert. I had some lavender ice cream which came with a large cookie similar to a pizzelle. The ice cream did have a lavender taste to it but it wasn't very strong. My husband had the creme brulee and a cappuccino. We would consider returning again. This was a splurge of a dinner when it comes to the cost. I hope that as time goes by, they do work out the few kinks they still have to deal with. read more

The crispy brie cheese is pretty good and the fig spread goes super well together with the roasted garlic. However, the bread was oddly super cold so I wouldn't order that again. The reason why I got the bread is that it's sister location local provisions has really great bread. I was a bit disappointed by that That being said that tuna tartare was also good with a good amount of protein and crispy slightly oily crisps. I wasn't wowed by the appetizers however, the beef bourguignon and the halibut were really good. Firstly, the halibut wasn't too mustard E tasting and felt relatively light. I would say that they did slightly overcook it. The beef bourguignon was really great with a super tender short rib and al dente pasta. For the desserts we got the crème brulee and the Vacherin Glacé. The Vacherin Glacé was whipped cream, lavender ice cream, strawberries, and meringues--super pretty and delicious way to end the meal. The crème brulee had a satisfying crack, and was rich in the cream. Our server, Annie was super nice and recommended some great dishes to us. She even wrote us super sweet postcard which really was the cherry on top of service. Super pretty location that is somewhat similar to Sisters Thai in Mosaic (but French). We are big fans of Local Provisions (LoPro for those in the know), so when Brasserie Royale opened next door, we made a beeline for some french bistro cuisine. On a bright weekend afternoon, we stepped into a bright, clean space with friendly servers who carefully explained the menu, which had just enough English to help us figure out what to order. An American smash burger, salmon nicoise salad, and grilled halibut over musrooms and pureed potatoes. Each one was cooked perfectly and unique in its profile, and full of flavor - very rich (too rich?) and filling, more than expected for lunch. This was our third or fourth visit to the restaurant which would have gotten 5 stars until this visit. Food was excellent and the service was excellent. The issue was we wanted to split the tasting menu (which they agreed to ad even split it for us). We asked for two wine pairings. That, for some reason they could not seem to accommodate. They had done this in the past but now wanted to up charge us for the second pairing by making us pay by the glass for 3 glasses of wine. We enjoyed a lovely first meal at Brasserie Royale for our anniversary. Having been to Local Provisions (their sister restaurant next door) a few times, we were anxious to sample the French inspired menu. We were not disappointed. The restaurant ambience and decor even gave us fond memories of restaurants visited on our 2023 trip to Paris. The tuna tartare as a shared appetizer was delicious, as were our entrees - Trout Almondine and Duck Confit. The hardest decision of the night was actually dessert, which we would normally skip, but being our anniversary and first time at the Brasserie Royale, we indulged. The "British" (in a French restaurant?) seasonal offering of Sticky Pudding was too tempting not to try. It was excellent. The service and wine selections were equally enjoyable. It was busy on a Monday evening, so reservations are recommended. Our table for two was nestled between other small tables and it was interesting to both see and get reviews of other dishes. Overheard from the table to our right were criticisms of the squash ravioli and garlic sausage entrees. However, the table to our left was effusive about the creme brulee. We will be back. I want to begin with we are HUGE Local Provisions fans and were excited to try out their sister restaurant. The restaurant is super well done...comfy seats by the bar and decor was very "French". Other reviews have addressed service...they are figuring it out and our service was excellent. Cocktails were on par with LP and were great. The food just isn't our jam. Steak frites were just ok, Halibut was slightly better, beet salad was ok. 2 cocktails, 1 salad, 2 entrees was $150...a bit pricey. The interior is large and cute but soooo busy and loud since it just opened! Service was lagging and forgetful at times but they are so new. The food was amazing though! I tried the escargot and it was served super fresh and hot. The snails were huge! I had the halibut with a side of creamed spinach. The side was on the smaller side and less creamy than the traditional style of this dish but still really good! The halibut was super delicious, cooked perfectly and a thick cut. We have come to Brasserie about five times now-most of the time it's been fine. However, today, for Valentine's Day it was a massive disappointment-especially with the service. While it was busy, it wasn't absolutely slammed. Our server took five minutes to initially greet us-not a massive deal. However, when we went to order, she was unsure of what we wanted. She was clearly new because she asked for us to point on the menu with what we would like. Again, not a big deal. We sat for about 25 minutes and then she told us "it will be out any minute." About 10 more minutes passed and it came out. A 35 minute ticket time for med-rare steak and a croque madam is unacceptable. In addition, she forgot to ring up a side we asked for, which took another 7-8 minutes (even though she told us it would be out in an unrealistic 2 minutes). This experience overall was really underwhelming and a disappointment to a kid-free date with my wife. The actual food was good, per usual. This is our first time at the restaurant and absolutely loved it. We sat at the bar and bartender, Alanna was friendly, professional, and a great mixologist. I had a delightful French 75, actually two because the first one was so good. Dinner with our server Eric, was professional and efficient. Shrimp cocktail appetizer was amazing along with the best French onion soup. Highly recommend the entrée steak Fritz , bread was fabulous, and dessert Was Absolutely delicious . Wow! What a place. First you walk in to authentic style French restaurant style building & decor. Located in a convenient place with plenty of parking. The staff are absolutely wonderful. Now the food is so delicious you will want to keep ordering. We had steak, frits or fries, salmon, among other thing & its 5star all the way. Wine choices along with drink specials are perfect. The chef came over & gave us a great rundown and answered any questions we had. Prices are high but they should be! Stepping inside Brasserie Royale you are instantly transported to a bygone era in ole Parí. The atmosphere perfectly captures the essence, and is a wonderful addition to the sterling food scene. We started with the local IPA Solace and Crispy Brie appetizer followed by the signature Onion Soup, Don't skip either one, they were amazing. For the main course we had the steak frittes cooked to perfection and the boeuf bourguignon short rip on house made pasta. The flavors were so authentic and fresh. We had a great dinner here! I had the roasted chicken which was a little under flavored but very moist and good! My friends also really enjoyed their meal. The desserts aren't on the website but I posted some pictures of those. The crème brulee is not served hot but still good. The lavender ice cream isnt very lavender, taste like very good vanilla icecream. The service was excellent and very attentive. They also did a little special dessert for my friend. I was told the Madeline's were a little dry but very nice of them to do that. The drinks were also very good. The decor was cute, small restaurant, but the layout was good. More like 2.5 stars. Full disclosure -- this restaurant has only been officially open for 3 weeks. Given its pedigree, I really wanted to like Brasserie Royale more than I ultimately did. Brought to you by Michael and Allyson Stebner, the same couple behind Local Provisions (right next door), expectations were, perhaps, a bit inflated. Given how much I like Local Provisions, I was expecting very good things indeed. The ambiance is typical French Brasserie -- black and white tiles and all. But that tile is a poor acoustic absorption material -- you need speak with a raised voice to be heard over the din of conversation and silverware and china clinking. Regardless, during quieter periods, it would be an inviting place to spend time. The service was uneven -- two people of the four in our party ordered two courses - one a pasta dish, the other a salad. All four of us ordered an entree. All plates arrived at the same time. Salad, pasta, and entrees. Our second round of drinks took way too long to arrive. The server told us that the menu was "classic French Brasserie fare." And while there are some classic Brasserie dishes -- oysters, tuna tartare, Beef bourgignon, steak frites -- many are missing -- no steak tartare, no Coq au Vin, no moules frites. Perhaps the "Coming Soon" Plat du Jour will address some of the missing classics. And about that Steak Frites. While the steak was correctly prepared, the fries were abysmal. If the fries are going to share top billing, they need to be good. This steak came with fries that were soggy and flabby. They might have been crispy at some point, but whatever crunch they may have had was apparently lost under the heat lamps. The goat cheese ravioli came with a craveable sauce (Golden Tomato Butter) -- perfect for dipping the flabby fries in. The roasted beets and Chevre salad was rather tasteless and under dressed. The trout amandine was overcooked and pretty dry. The vanilla blackberry sorbet was very, very good. These may all be the teething problems of a newly opened restaurant. I would hope so. The bill came to $120 before tip -- one salad, two entrees, one dessert, two cocktails. $60 per person for relatively pedestrian food is not sustainable. read more

Unfortunately, the timing of our entrées were off, but the staff handled it exceptionally well. They acknowledged the issue on their own and generously comped the entire meal, which went above and beyond what we expected.
