Had Sunday lunch today with mixed results. Ordered chicken and waffles and coffee. The coffee was either old or too strong which I can cope with. While the chicken was beautiful and fantastic, the sausage gravy with zero chunks of sausage was so awful and tasteless it was disappointing. Hardly ate any of the good as the gravy was all over everything. Mentioned it to our wonderful waitress who should have either offered a piece of chicken without gravy or no charge for mostly untouched meal but that didn't happen. No to the wise : consider getting the chicken and waffles without gravy. Note to this wonderful restaurant: please reconsider your gravy recipe. read more

The service got off to a rough start. When we arrived, there were already two parties waiting at the hostess stand, and everyone had reservations. We still had to wait a couple of minutes before anyone came over. When someone finally did, it was another employee rather than the hostess, who was helping the parties ahead of us. The hostess eventually arrived and seated us, but she wasn't particularly warm or welcoming. Unfortunately, the service didn't get much better after that. The restaurant wasn't very busy, and there seemed to be plenty of staff, but our server spent a lot of time sitting at tables and chatting with other employees. We had to wait to place our order and again when we needed something. Overall, the service just felt slow and disengaged. The menu was another disappointment. At 2 p.m., only the brunch menu was available, so we couldn't order the steaks we were expecting. This was especially confusing since the kids' menu had steak and fries, and the brunch menu had steak and eggs. When we asked if we could order a steak separately, we were told no. I understand having different menus at different times, but this should have been mentioned when we made the reservation. I had actually called ahead specifically to ask about the steaks and gave them our dining time. If the regular menu wasn't going to be available at 2 p.m., I would have expected them to let us know so we could decide whether to make other plans. The restaurant itself is nice. It's spacious, has a good layout, and the atmosphere was pleasant. The one issue was the seating. The hard metal chairs were pretty uncomfortable and didn't really fit with the otherwise nice setting. The food was probably the biggest disappointment. The prices are fairly high compared with similar restaurants, which would be fine if the food were outstanding. Unfortunately, most of what we ordered was bland or underseasoned. We tried the steak burgers, tuna tartare, salads, steak and eggs, and shrimp appetizer. The shrimp was actually too salty and wasn't very good. For the price, we just didn't think the food or overall experience was worth it. I'd much rather spend the money at Jackson's or Coastal Flats. Red's definitely has potential, especially with the space, location, and atmosphere, but it just didn't live up to our expectations. Between the slow service, lack of warmth from the staff, the menu issue, uncomfortable seating, and disappointing food, we left feeling like we had spent too much for what we got. The people of Reston love Red's Table so I had to give it a try. We went on a Saturday night and they only had bar seating available, so definitely make a reservation. For dinner, I got the Chesapeake Bay crab bisque which was creamy and delicious. I also got an order of mussels that I haven't stopped thinking about. The white wine sauce they were cooked in, I could drink. The portion size was great, I got a lot of mussels. It was very good, next time I want to sit on the patio and look over the lake. read more

Walked by this place couple of times and finally decided to try it after many years. It turns out to be a good decision. We started off with the crab dip. It is an excellent choice as there were chunks of crabmeat in that dip. The bread is another important part of a dip and it did not disappoint, nice size and excellent at holding the dip. For entrees, I got the chicken sandwich. I am going to say a bit disappointed. The coating separated from the chicken making it awkward to eat but it is flavorful. My wife and son enjoyed their entrees. To end the lunch, we got the tiramisu French toast for dessert . It was delicious! We will return to try other entrees. read more

This is my favorite restaurant in Reston. The location is amazing especially in the spring and summer when you can sit outside and see the view of the lake. I don't think there's a single meal you can go wrong with. I also love that it's a seasonal menu so often when I go I get to try something new. A regular favorite for me is the mussels, crab dip, and sweet potato salad. My biggest let down is they changed their fries and I think they're too thick and not as delicious as they used to be. read more

A modern lakefront restaurant nestled in a busy shopping area. It's officially fall so the fall foliage is in full Autumn mode. This restaurant was massive in size. I noted that it had 3 separate dinning areas, an indoor, outdoor and indoor patio area and the architect designed all areas around the view of the lake so no matter where you were sat, even at the bar, you still had a great view of the lake. The staff was extremely nice and gave helpful recommendations on what to order .8 ended up ordering an espresso martini, shrimp saffron pasta and a brownie Sunday. The espresso martini was made using heated milk, espresso, cinnamon and other natural ingredients with a shot of their smooth house vodka native to Virginia. The shrimp saffron pasta was delicious, smooth, creamy saffron sauce with squash, sliced olives, Parmesan and some spinach. It gave a bold, eastern Italian taste that I thought wouldn't get unless I returned to Italy. The brownie was very decadent, homemade ice cream. It was more of a cake like brownie but still had that flaky top. Classic!! I met the owner while dinning as he noticed how appreciative I was was with every bite I took of the pasta and so he walked over and had a chat with me around the pasta item. I am from the Eastern Shore of Maryland; plucked blue crabs out of the creek in my backyard, so I am VERY critical of crab dishes. THIS is so excellent I went twice this week to eat them! read more

We are regulars at Red's Table, and it never disappoints. The food is consistently fresh, flavorful, and perfectly cooked every time. For appetizers, we've tried the clam chowder, bang bang shrimp, and crab dip. Each one has been excellent. Our go-to entrée is the market steak with Brussels sprouts and potatoes, and honestly, we've never had a better steak dinner anywhere. We've traveled quite a bit in search of the best, and Red's Table wins--1000%. We've also had the Cobb salad (amazing), chicken sandwich, and burger, and there hasn't been a single dish we didn't enjoy. Everything comes out on time, cooked just right, and we always leave completely satisfied. The service is just as impressive as the food. The entire staff is polite, welcoming, and attentive. Meridith, who has been our server multiple times, is incredible!!! She even remembers our order from memory, which makes every visit feel personal. The atmosphere is another highlight. The back patio is absolutely gorgeous with views overlooking the lake, and there's also a side patio that offers a really nice view as well. We genuinely look forward to our biweekly dinners here. And one more thing, the coconut brown ale is outstanding, easily the best beer in town!! I'd recommend calling ahead to make sure the patio is open and available, as it tends to book up quickly. All in all, if you haven't been to Red's Table yet, you are making a big mistake. read more

We had a memorial service in the private room at Red's, for about 15 people. The staff is tremendous, was easy working with Ryan to get the room reserved and setup for us. They allowed us to come in early, set up pictures and music. For the event, we were introduced to Bailey, who led the team helping us out. All of the food was really incredible, we had a large mix of appetizers including shrimp, crab dip, and my favorite, the goat cheese fritters. All of the food came out quickly, and hot (when it was supposed to be). The servers did a great job taking drink orders, keeping us supplied with water, and just making sure we were happy. We had a retirement party for a colleague last week, and utilized the private area. Nothing but good things to say about the experience. The ambience, with waterfront view, was great. The service was outstanding - many different tabs were accommodated without issue, and all needs were met quickly. The food was excellent as well. The private area had doors that can be closed for speaking to the group, or opened for better views. Highly recommend this venue for a group gathering (we had 25+) or nice lunch/dinner. read more

I have dined at Red's Table many times over the last ten years, only because it was the choice of others, not mine. Never has Red's Table offered what vegans eat: a plant-based meal. Over the years, I've had to order a side, usually been doused in oil or salt. Yesterday, for the first time, I was thrilled to see the word "vegan" as an option on Red's Table's menu, a huge step, acknowledging that vegans also need to eat and that the restaurant finally serves vegans. However, I was disappointed that the option, "Fried Tofu and Sticky Rice," was pretend vegan since it contained oil and refined white rice, both of which vegans do not eat. Even the neighboring Asian restaurant offers brown rice and steamed tofu as great options, and of course, chopsticks, which Red's Table also needed to include. With thousands of recipes available that offer whole grains, lentils, and beans, Red's Table still doesn't get it. I hope I won't need to eat their side dish of veggies or salad for the next ten years, only to have to finish my meal elsewhere. They have a great view from the outside patio. It's sort of a three seasons patio with heaters, so you can sit out there when it's chilly out. It really has a fun vibe. Love the Chesapeake crab dip. The bang bang shrimp are absolutely amazing, probably the best I've tried. Outstanding price on oysters. Just a great seafood place. Also we went there one of the times with a very large group. Red's is one of my favorite restaurants in Reston! I live nearby, so I often come here for summer nights by the water or to sit in the bar area and watch a game (although they only have 2 tvs so this isn't necessarily a sports bar atmosphere). I recently reserved their private party space and can't say enough good things about it! The staff was so incredibly helpful; they got us a drink while we set up, learned every single attendee's name and who their partner was to manage multiple tabs, and were so quick with service. Lastly- the food! I have never had a bad thing here, but their crab dip, clam chowder, cobb salad, and fried chicken sandwich are some of my most ordered. The serving sizes are generous, so I recommend ordering a few things and sharing to try more! read more

My wife, my mother in law, and I dined at Red's Table Sunday brunch yesterday. A dismal and disappointing experience, one which we will not repeat. I reserved a table last week through 'Toast', Red Table's reservation system. I requested a 'Quiet Area' respecting my mother in law's hearing. Such a place does not exist within Red's Table, as we were seated in a table where extremely loud and racous music blasted our attempts at conservation. If we desired such uncomfortable music, we would have visited a discotheque'. My steak arrived cold. The server held the payment device as I scanned my card and hit the card reader's Tip icon. She quickly pulled the card reader away from me, stating "Oh, the other pages are just company stuff." My wife noticed that the server scrolled up to the 'Thumb's Up/Thumb's down' page, the server hit the 'Thumb's Up' link, then closed the reader. I would have chosen 'Thumb's Up' as the meal was marginally acceptable, but her action supported the restaurant's unpleasant nature. Never again. read more

It was our first time at Red's Table. We discovered it by searching for "dog-friendly outdoor patios" here on Yelp. I was so excited to see a restaurant on the water! We made a reservation, but I decided to call since we were bringing a dog-to make sure we got a good table. Luckily I did, because the woman who answered the phone was surprised. She mentioned that sometimes people showed up with dogs; but were turned away, because they actually weren't dog-friendly. She hadn't realized that the mistake was displayed on their website, and therefore linked to other sites. She was so gracious, however, when I expressed that we would still come without the dog; and that I'd love to sit at a table right by the water! She mentioned that the tables outside were first come, first served; but thanked me for letting her know about the website mistake, and promised us a great table. We arrived and they were busy and the hostesses seemed very stressed. I'm sure it was due to the nice weather. There were two hostesses-One may have been the one I spoke with earlier, but I'm not certain. The other was unfriendly which was a bit off-putting. I mentioned I'd spoken with someone earlier & explained the situation. After some confusion, and a short wait, that hostess led us to an outdoor table. Unfortunately, it was furthest away from the water, and we couldn't see the water well while seated. We asked a couple times to move as we saw tables by the water being cleared. But we were told no, as others were waiting. We were hoping that we could move and someone who had been there before or didn't care about the view could have our table, since it would've still been outside: Win-win. But when I approached the hostess, I was met with the same unfriendliness, and it felt uncomfortable for a first experience/impression. We could understand the scenario, but would've appreciated better customer service -a smile, or perhaps an apologetic dismissal of the request. We still enjoyed our meal and our server was wonderful. I would love to see one or two more vegetarian options, as they were limited. We loved the Goat Cheese Fritter appetizer. My mushroom/rolled oat burger was ok, but I would not get it again. My cocktail was a "Reds Cosmo" which featured a touch of Rosemary, and it was perfect. We would probably try this restaurant once more, maybe for brunch, in hopes of an all around positive experience, and for a chance to sit by the water because the view is really what sets this place apart! I walked over to the railing to get a picture before we left. There is also an outdoor area next to the restaurant, where we could've ordered take-out and sat; which is just a public use area. We didn't see it until we were leaving, but we could've had our water view there, potentially. read more

Nine friends recently enjoyed a luncheon to celebrate a milestone birthday at Red's Table on their closed patio. It was a beautiful spring day and our table overlooked Lake Thoreau with the dogwoods and cherry trees in bloom. Everyone's food was excellent, our server was very accommodating and of course the ambiance couldn't have been better. We were able to bring our own cake and our waitress helped serve it. This used to be one of my favorite restaurants around. I would gather family and friends, attend most of their special event dinners, and even attended a friends wedding reception here - it was wonderful. Until recently... I'm not sure what's happened, but ever since the chef change the quality has gone down hill. Since then I've had cold (not on purpose) lobster, cold soup, tasteless starters, and inconsistent dishes that were once my go-to's. Once I came for brunch and when I left to go to the bathroom they took my plate and tossed it. I had hardly even ate any. Of course they re-made it, but the service has also suffered in comparison to years past. Honestly, the last event (bourbon dinner) was quite terrible. I had raved about the dinners for so long that when a friend was finally able to attend I was embarrassed. We had specifically requested a gluten free menu for him and they forgot to bring a GF dish every-single-time. The food was very underwhelming and we all left hungry and didn't even care to finish some of the dishes. I don't think there was one of us out of a party of 8 that finished all of the courses. Please fix the food. I want to come back and enjoy Red's table like old times :( read more

Really enjoyed this restaurant. The covered patio is nice with a lovely lake view. The outside temps were low 60's so with the indoor heaters, the patio was the perfect temp. Our only complaint is that it took a while for a server to come by (we had to ask for one). But otherwise everything was great. The fried chicken sandwich was AMAZING along with the onion rings. I was worried the ciabatta bread would be hard but it wasn't at all. Everyone at my table loved their food. read more
