I've been parking here on my way down to Ohare and back for the last 3 years or so. It's a place with lots of character, I like it. Usually when returning stateside this would be my first meal, simple Brat and fries. I've never had anything else, some of the other items I saw others eating didn't look so great. Keep it simple here, get a brat. Sadly, they've more than doubled there long term parking, and it's no longer graduated by length of stay. It's $8 a night now (and it's still empty all the time) Too much considering you are paying for round trip buses from there to Ohare. Goodbye brat stop, I'll miss the late night brats, the Dolly Parton looking patrons, and good country music, but you no longer make financial sense. read more

We had no plans to come here, but when a chain restaurant my young kids liked had an hour wait, we just kept driving and hit upon this. I mean, how can you pass up a huge CHEESE sign? It looks and feels like a dive bar and kind of smells like a basement, but the staff was nice and the food was decent. Also, the Bloody Mary was pretty damn good. (That said, for as much as they tout their Bloody Marys and offer a huge selection of Bloody Mary merchandise and ingredients right inside the front door...I'd have expected an actual selection but they just had a single Bloody Mary on the menu.) Monday night with football on at 9pm I call to see what time kitchen is open until. I get voicemail but Google says they are open until midnight. Get there at 9:30. Sit at bar and I ask for a menu and bartender nods at me like I'm an idiot and tells me he closed the kitchen because they hadn't had any food orders for a while. I ask why they didn't answer the phone when I called and he seemed upset that me, the customer was upset. Never I will go back. I do not appreciate inconsistency in hours for food when you are a famous spot. Never again. read more

When at the Brat Stop, you want to order the brats. I order the Rueben...don't be like me. The brat is really god. The Reuben tastes like they made it right away and then let it sit under heat lamps for 15 min while the tasty brats were cooking to golden brown. The Reuben was soggy and uninspired. Those brats tho...really special. Fries are meh. Everybody loves the Cole slaw "it's amazing", said several folks. Service was a bit slow, but just shut up and eat your brat. read more

We came here for breakfast on a Sunday morning. But the full menu was open, sooooooo..... Cue up a Reuben and some thick A** chicken wings. They are a breaded, gooey mess that'll leave you single if ordered on a first date. Also, huge. Bigger than life huge. The Reuben was standard Wi Bar fare. Good, but not going to compete on the "craft" corn beef circuit. (If that's a thing) Still, portions are for the full figured and prices are reasonable. We will be back. Stopped into the Brat Stop for breakfast and a Bloody Mary. We asked for spicy! we got tomato juice. It was actually sweet and not at all flavorful. They used to have good Bloody Mary's well I guess things change. Breakfast came out fast. The home fries never saw a fryer. they were luke warm and mushy. The bacon was very under cooked and inedible as served. The english muffin was right out of the package and not toasted. The brat was warm and tasty. Party of eight. Visited today. Food ok. Service atrocious. Waited 20 minutes for a table. They were clearly understaffed as there were plenty of empty tables around. Took our food and drink order then we got our drinks after a long wait. Then after about an hour we got our food. Never saw the waitress in between. Ok, so I get that that kitchen was backed up, but at least keep the drinks coming and try to apologize for the delay. Missed some parts of the order that we never got. One sandwich arrived a good five minutes after everything else. After finishing the lunch (nearly dinner by now), she said she had the checks for us and we could see them in her hand, but she disappeared again before delivering the checks. We paid cash so we would not have to wait for a credit card to be run. Otherwise we might still be there. Will not go again. The cheese curds were really good, but everything else was terrible. One child ordered a corn dog that was cold when it came out. My son and husband ordered a brat. Neither were good and my son's made him sick. I ordered a grilled cheese sandwich with tomatoes. They forgot the tomatoes and it was so greasy I couldn't eat more than half. Pros - good Bloody Mary mix. Cons - pretty much everything else. Food took over 30 minutes to arrive. The brat patty on my breakfast sandwich was burnt. One of our orders didn't arrive until another 15 minutes after the rest. My wife's BLT arrived with mayo, even though it was ordered without. The replacement took another 15 minutes to arrive and tasted fishy. Decent place to grab a drink, but avoid the food. read more

Reinforcing those Wisconsin stereotypes for generations. Three stars might be generous. As a native Wisconsinite, I've had more than my fair share of brats in my day. Nearly all of them have been better than the brats I've had here. You would think if "brat" was in your name, you'd better have the best damn brats this side of the I-294 Tollway. Wrong. I do give them credit for the availability of a brat patty in lieu of a hamburger patty. If you've never had a brat outside of its normal tubular form, I suggest you give it a try. Slap some cheese on that you have yourself something special. I really wish brat patties were more prevalent then they are. Look and you will find them. Thank my latter. Anywho, I've just never been impressed by this place. Yes, it's huge. Yes, they do pump you through. Yes, the service is friendly. Yes, they have live music, although the stage reminds me of the stage at Bob's Country Bunker. All that was missing was the chicken wire. I assume that they host "both kinds" of music here: Country and Western. In general, this place looks wore out. I still would prefer to eat here than at any of the fast-food choices on HWY 50. You can't much more "local" than this.There is also a huge Wisco themed store here for your New Glarus and Cheesehead needs. 2 Brat Plate was ordered by 3 in our party. They were served room temperature. Cajun was not as spicy as most places. Same for the jalapeño cheddar. Waitress forgot our appetizer we ordered for the table and apologized. Beers were cold and waitress was friendly. Sides were very good and nice condiments. The people who work here are shady! I left my glasses on the table for 2 mins and went back to get them and they were gone. I spoke to the hostess and she asked the staff if anyone saw them. The guy that cleared the table saw them and set them aside. Someone who works there took them and would not confess they took them. The manager was really unprofessional when he spoke to me. Each year we make a Christmas shopping pilgrimage to Kenosha and Gurnee Mills. One of our must stops is to have lunch at Mangia restaurant in Kenosha. A fantastic place that has been around for a while. Anyway, when we got there, they were not open for lunch that day. Curses!! I was looking forward to it and now ....nada! Making our way back to the highway, I just could not bring myself to stop at any of the chain places scattered along the way. The sign for Brat Stop beckoned me. It has been there forever and I thought it must have something going for it to be around that long. Well, upon entering I could see that this place had probably not been updated since the '70's. We ordered a Reuben sandwich and a two brat lunch plate. Bottom line: The food just was not very good. The brats were cooked way too long. The German potato salad that came with it was terrible. The sauerkraut was the most sour that I had ever had but I was ok with that. It was the best thing on the plate. I would really only give 1 star but our server was pleasant and on top of it so I can bump it up to 2 stars. I would give this place a pass. Cheers to all read more

Ok, so I'm a Floridian who really likes a good brat. Unfortunately we don't have brats in Florida and now I know what I am really missing! Had the double brats with kraut and German potato salad. I selected the original and a cheddar cheese...how friggin good was that. The only reason I have 4 out of 5 is that I have no real reference between good and bad. So I had to leave room just in case we find another brat place. With that said... I was impressed!!! read more

I've been going to this place for the last 20 years. Great spot to get lunch and a beer if you're going to Wisconsin. I always take newbies and they love the place as well. Brats are clearly the best thing on the menu and I recommend the pizza. The pizza was a surprisingly good bar style pie. read more

I enjoyed this place before the pandemic. It's a nice spot. However, I went today and I could count on one hand how many employees were wearing a mask. I won't be coming back. While I can understand customers making the choice for themselves I was disappointed to see it from the staff. I may be overrating this place because I have generally fond memories from last century. For what it is, which is a touristy Interstate stop, it's not bad. It's not the worst choice you could make for a sit down meal to break up a road trip, though if you're Northbound I'm going to recommend that you try to push up a little farther to the somewhat similar but better Mars Cheese Castle. We sometimes stop here on the way out to pick up something for old Chicago area friends (not family, they're Buddhist), or even to export to the Western Michigan area mainly because the grocery part of the Brat Stop is convenient and quick. However, if you're Southbound and looking for Wisconsin edible gifts, I prefer leaving about 15 minutes earlier so I can stop at the O-H bakery, or Woodman's for Kringle, Wisconsin sausage and cheese, and Wisconsin beer. Again, the Cheese Castle is another option. If your primary goal is to break up an I-94 road trip right here in Kenosha, right off the exit, I suggest considering the BIrchwood Grill right across from the Brat Stop. The food, ambiance, and service is a little better, but it's not touristy. read more

Four guys stopped after golf today for a bite to eat. Mid afternoon so the place wasn't very busy. It's been years since we had visited this historic establishment and a lot of wonderful memories were shared among our group during this visit. Amount the memories were the outstanding Kemen bratwurst once grilled and served up here. The brats served today were poor imitations of those served years earlier. Today's seemingly parboiled and barely grilled brats would be a unsatisfactory from any restaurant but one served from a place with "Brat" in it's name is terrible. The slightly worn out look of the place you could totally mistake the Brat Stop for just some divey joint. But inside, there's a stage for live music, tons of seating at the large bar or at one of the many tables, and even coin-operated machine horsey rides for the little kids. Oh, it's a bit run down inside for sure, but it is more than just a divey joint. Stopped in for lunch after some apple picking not too far away and lucky for us it was Bears/Packers Sunday. Well, it became bad news bears but that's not for discussion. Anyway, I've always visited on weekdays and the place was pretty quiet, but it was pretty packed and lively that Sunday. Our table enjoyed the cheese curds appetizer to share (good, but doesn't compare to my favorite Bad Apple). It comes with marinara, ranch and house dill sauces for dipping. We each got a different meal for lunch and everyone seemed to enjoy it. There are different kinds of brats to try--garlic, cajun, cheddar Jalepeno, etc. I just went with the regular brat and it was very good. Nothing special really, but couple that with the lively football crowd and it made for a great afternoon. I have been here a few times so that BF can get his cheese curd fix the other 51 weeks out of the year that the State Fair isn't open. Up until now it has been a very typical Wisconsin hangout - lots of fried, heavy, cheesy menu items served on tissue-lined plastic baskets in a sports bar/cabin/souvenir stand setting. The only thing there I have ever eaten and enjoyed was a cup of soup called "Turkey Pot Pie". Except in reality it was nothing more than turkey, vegetables and rice in broth. How this relates to pot pie I will never know, but it was good. The other stuff is bland bordering on vile. A grilled cheese sandwich that was two slices of Kraft singles on toasted white bread. (I thought Kraft singles were banned in Wisconsin, personally.) Anything you order that is fried, like the aforementioned cheese curds or the jalapeno poppers, will come out blazing hot on the outside, cold and hard on the inside. AND THEN! The biggest injustice of all! We are sitting there during a Cubs/Sox game and the Sox are ahead - they get 2 runs in a row! I am psyched. But then the Cubs come back and get a run in the next inning and a HUGE siren and whooping carries all over the place! Holy Crap they are rooting for the Cubs! What the hell is this - they have no allegiance to the Cubs - this is Wisconsin! Then the Cubs started winning and I got pissed off after the 3rd whooping siren. Didn't even bother to browse through the souvenir area. Brat Stop, I am thoroughly disgusted with you now. I hope you do take out, because BF can just run in and buy his cheese curds and I dont have to listen to your Cubs support any longer. read more

One word: SAUSAGES !!!!! Lots and lots of them! Unlike many reviewers of the B.S., I have not eaten there. I have only purchased frozen packages of these savory juicy brats. I think it was last time I bought some Cajun Brats that are amazing...not too spicy. Juuuuuust right when served with grilled onions and mustard on a softy-soft bun. The Brat Stop is a perfect little oasis mid-way between Chicago and Milwaukee to purchase good quality sausages. As soon as the weather warms up above 40 degrees, I will be removing some Cajuns from my freezer, drinking several beers while the grill heats up and chowing down. Just to preface, service was fine. Attentive and friendly. However this place is huge complete with a random arcade section and live music stage. There is a shop part where you can pick up cheese curds, brats and more. The low stars is mostly on the food. The Sprechers root beer had a metallic odd taste to it. Someone referenced it to a bug spray taste. The cheese curds were fine. The sausage platter was decent too. The famous brats fell short of amazing. The broasted chicken was incredibly dry and the skin was inedible because it was that tough. The kids meals tasted just like frozen food reheated. Overall we won't be back. read more

The Brat Stop is one of those I-94 tourist joints that you hear about all the time, like Mars Cheese Castle and Apple Holler. With that said, Mars and Holler are actually worth visiting. I grew up nearby and my parents now reside in Kenosha. Just yesterday I visited the Brat Stop for the first time after passing it by hundreds of times for my entire life. Looking back on my visit, I'd probably rename it the Brat "Dive." My sisters and I were looking for somewhere to grab a bite to eat the evening before Christmas Eve and for my brother-in-law to watch the Thursday Football game. Everywhere was packed, EXCEPT BS (perfect acronym). They have plenty of parking and it's humungous! BS's Yelp business profile has a million categories describing it because it's just a smorgasbord of things: delicatessen/cheese/meat shop, tourism shop, sports/dive bar, restaurant/tavern, and the list goes on... We definitely got our greasy food and game on...that is after waiting 5 minutes without being sat by a hostess and still waiting 15 minutes at a table we selected ourselves before just sitting ourselves at the bar. The bartender was very sweet and enjoyed using endearing names for each person at the bar like "sweetheart" and "love." I appreciated it after the horrible, young waitress who just eyed us while we waited at the entrance. We finally found what we wanted to eat after going through the horribly disorganized paper beer mug menu (why artichoke dip is offered with the list of beers and how breakfast ends up in between the regular dining menu is still unknown). The cheese curds were delicious and a must! I ordered the Broasted Chicken which I found on through Wikipedia was invented in Beloit, Wisconsin--Who knew! For only $6 it comes with delicious coleslaw, mashed potatoes and gravy which were little be desired, a stale roll, and three yummy pieces of chicken. My sisters ordered the chicken fingers for $5 which came with 5 individual fingers! You definitely get your money's worth when it comes to the food. Plus, I got to play trivia and WIN (no one needs to know I was the only one playing...)! You can get beyond the grunge and bizarre clientele by looking at all the hokey decor like the Lobster Zone (a fish tank with live lobsters and a claw; if you win one they'll cook it for you), a cage with a magician glove raising its middle finger, and a life-size Chicago Bear hanging from the ceiling by a noose. All I was thinking was thank God I wasn't there during a Bears vs. Packers game and I'm not a football fan! read more
