A very nice place with huge potential. Most of the staff are wonderful. The drinks and food are affordable and most of the people are nice. But, they also host bands. If you go there you need to know whether or not a band will be playing, even if you've been there a few hours. They will insist you pay their "cover fee" for the band even if you've spent hundreds already. I get the need for cover charges for bands, but I feel there should be some leeway especially for people that have been there awhile. Their policy has no leeway at all. read more

Wanted it to be great as the Brat Stop used to be so dependable. Went there for lunch on a Monday a few weeks ago and we had a wonderful server. The fried cheese curds were great but husband's brat was cold as was the bun. The sauerkraut served with my brat tasted very strange. Sunday night, trying to get back to Chicago at a reasonable hour, in need of food so we hit this exit thinking KFC? or Wendy's? KFC was not my choice, they were closed luckily. Across the street we see Brat Stop. Hmmm we all think. Could go for a brat. Looking in the windows outside, we're all thinking its a store of some kind that sells cheese and brats. They have sausages also. Inside its a cross, of a grocery store and a bi-level version of "hog's and honey's"(a Chicago Bar with mechanical bull) Think extended area bar with hi and low decks and an open second floor addition which looks down onto the main floor. On a more popular night, it must be a rowdy good time. Lots of neon signs, Wisconsin-esque signs and stuff, few oddities like a life size Elvis pez dispenser(also for sale). They've got plenty of arcade games, mainly card games, Golden tee, cruisin' u.s.a., etc. Its a bar with the offerings of a restaurant and attached grocery for cheeses, summer sausages and brats etc. If you wanted a bit of the grocery cheese they offer added onto your food they can do that for very small fee. Lots of beer choices whether its domestic or import and many different size options. I prefer a stein of Killian's. Though the glass is petite and not very manly looking. Beer pricing is fair. On some nights they offer live music and Guitar hero competitions. The thought of paying a cover of $10-15 bucks, really struck me. Have to remember while it is located at an exit and visitors of WI would think its more of a souvenir type of place, its not. This is a part of Kenosha's nightly fun. Still $15 dollars? Heck no. Not unless it was a seriously good band. Plenty of nightly specials for alcohol and food to keep you coming back. Their brats suck! I am talking about the ones they serve late night. I've had enough brats and hot dogs of the hot dog warmer to know the good from the SUCK. The brat I had was insipid and rubbery. One brat, no toppings with a .25 cent bag of Lays chips for $5, this was on the late night menu. Crap! At least offer me some onions or something! The brat looked and tasted like its been rolling all night on a hot dog warmer. No grill marks. How sucky! I could've gotten this crap at 7-11. They offer a smaller selection of the cheeses, summer sausages and assorted pickled items during the late night. Most items are pretty cheap, for instance a 8 oz, extra sharp cheddar block only costs about $5.50. (Update - Just tasted the cheese and its not Sharp at all or is it "extra", Kraft does a better job, what a let down) If you can get a chance, during normal business hours ask for a taste of the cheese! . I may come back just to see how it is on a live event night or weekend. For a lazy Sunday night, I was surprised to find quite a few attractive women. Women were 21-25, men were older 26-35. Overall, not a bad place. A bit confusing on where to enter or If the "cheese shop" is part of the whole experience? I figured it out, but was a bit confusing. Not a meat eater, so had the grilled cheese on rye with a house salad. Nothing stood out, decent, traditional grilled cheese. Nice volley ball court out back, decent size bar with nice TV's but weird angles. Sitting at the edge Of the bar, you will get a stuff neck watching games. Employees are key to GREAT ratings in my opinion. And having the bartender talk to another employee about the shits she had for the last 3 days wasn't appetizing. This place just screamed WISCONSIN to me, so I felt 100% certain that they would have cheese curds and New Glarus and I was not disappointed. They obviously also have brats. I felt like the brats were definitely the thing to try here, given the name. And yeah, the Brat Stop was a pretty good place to stop for brats. Had a jalapeño cheddarwurst, which was excellent. It had that satisfying pop when you bite into it. Strong work on the fries that came out with it, but you can choose other types of potatoes as a side instead. The German Potato Salad is also quite good. Your server will bring diced onion and relish to top your brat with if you ask, and I personally endorse that idea. Why can't other places do cheese curds quite as well as Wisconsin? I don't totally understand this. Brat Stop gave me my last fix of real Wisconsin cheese curds before moving on in my travels, and they were very good. I hope I can come up with an excuse to come here again. read more

I've only been here for breakfast because I live in Illinois, but whenever making a trip to WI, we make it a point to stop here. The bloodies are good too. We just love coming here. I've been back to the Brat Stop at least two or three times since my last review and let me tell you the Friday night Walleye dinner with the potato salad is awesome as is the jumbo shrimp lunch. Service has been great each time and now it's a must stop for my family. And one time we caught a really great band. A friend asked me recently, "Oh, the Brat Stop in Kenosha? Is that place nice?" And I answered, "No it's not really nice. It desperately needs a remodel, the bathrooms are a little icky and the 70's style succo walls are hopelessly outdated. I think this place is amazing. my rating is based on an overall experience. the service was amazing at the bar. the bartender asked and called me by name, every time. she was on it. wish I could remember her name to throw it out there, but I could tell she was there for quite some time, or the head bartender. excellent customer service. the atmosphere was great. the place is huge. there was a stage which they may have live bands play or shows. nothing was happening when I went, but that's ok. I'm sure it's a great bar during sporting events. they have TVs. they have a store connected to this place as well. they sell food, beer, and gifts for vacationers. I actually picked up some shot glasses. the spotted cow is sold there so make sure to try a bottle. the food was great. I had the cheddar brat and traditional brat, American potato salad, and Cole slaw (it was good but I should have got the kraut for my brats...don't know what I was thinking). either way the slaw was great and I used it to top my brats anyways. they serve onions and relish on the side in containers along with mustard (ketchup is there but eh. who uses ketchup on a brat anyways?!). the menu had a lot of items so there is a lot to try. We don't really go here. It's in Kenosha, way out past the I, and I'm from the northside of Racine, near the lake. Too far away to go there for drinks, and the food is okay, but not enough to draw me back. But if it's band night, this place rules. What a great stage! It's really one of the best in the area, with pro-lighting and sound. It's a great venue for mid-level up-and-comers and old fogeys still stumping the grind. They do a big ol local music festival every year, but I've never played it, so I can't really speak of it. I know they do like 4 or 5 stages, cuz this place is like the Tardis, and rooms just open up into more rooms, back behind the scenes. The decor and the atmosphere left much to be desired. That or I am just expecting too much. Either way I have to admit the quality of the food off sets the whole thing. Those brats were great. Granted, they oversold the whole Garlic Brat thing. Nicely flavored, but a bit mild to my taste. What do I know, I enjoy myself at the Gilroy Garlic Festival. Still, the food was excellent. Must stop destination!!! Visiting family in Milwaukee I asked where should I stop to get Wisconsin beer to take back to Illinois, the entire room blurted out "Brat Stop!!!" Stopping there would add 30 mins to my to my 2 hour drive home but I decided it must be worth it. I pull up, looks kinds dark inside from the parking lot and only the bar/ restaurant was open. I awkwardly walked in just hoping I could still buy a 6 Pk of Moon Man to take home. I was soooo relieved being greeted immediately by the bar tender Trish & Liz. She instantly made me feel welcomed and let me go shopping with her for beer. Trish was EXTREMELY knowledgeable and described each type of beer ect she had to offer. A 6 pk turned into a variety case of different beers I couldn't resit wanting after learning about others I had no clue about. She then asked me if I wanted to order cheese curds, (how did she know I wanted them! Lol ) I told her I just ate and wish I was hungry because I secretly want them. Trish then took me back shopping and told me of all the cheese curds they had to offer!! SOLD!! What can I say that hasn't been already? I kept driving past this place and never stopped in until one day Bobby Nelson's was closed and I needed to pick up some goodies on my way home. I hit the Brat Stop's grocery section, and was hooked. They have so many fresh, declicious choices from cheese curds, to spreads, to brats and sausages to condiments and drinks. Eventually I made it to the restaurant and the place is HUGE inside, it's really suprising! The food was GREAT. Good, old fashioned no frills brats and even lots of other options like quesadillas, burgers and other bar-type food. Also a great selection of beers, both bottled and on tap. Definitely stop in if you get a chance! Only complaint is apparently smoking is still allowed inside near the bar which we were eating at, which can put a damper on enjoying your food. It wasn't bad when we were there, but there is definitely some possibility of it getting nasty in there. The place is big enough you could easily pick a table a good 100 feet away from the bar, we just didn't think of it. Food is cheap, I only gave it 2 $$ because it's hard not to get beer which might push you a LITTLE over $10 a head for 1 beer and a brat platter with potato salad. read more

I know this place is called the Brat Stop but I ordered the broasted chicken instead. I have excellent cholesterol. I have to keep it that way. :-) Anyhow, service was excellent. Waitress was really friendly and sociable. Food came out in a timely manner. I also enjoyed seeing the hung Chicago Bear and my father's smirk (who is a Bear fan) when he saw it. Trish & Steve did a great job at the bar. Good atmosphere and will definitely be back next time we are in Kenosha.

If you have 2 hours to eat come here. First, got sat and didn't see anyone for 20 minutes. Told the host desk and we finally got drinks. As a server, I understand being swamped but we saw our waitress two times in the matter of an hour and a half. Didn't get refills, took 20 minutes to get the bill after she finally came back to us... The menu has changed slightly from the last time I was here. If your getting the cheddarwarst be sure to asked for the cheddar on top as well. They use to serve it that way, now you have to ask for it. You can't beat a Wisconsin brat with a nice cold spotted cow beer. read more
