My dad introduced me to this spot back in the day, probably on the way back home from some crazy weekend family fun time. The man loves his brats. Come in for a lunch and some beers and hit up the deli on the way out armed with real Wisonsin brats and bags and bags of assorted cheese curds. Mmm. If you're new to this culture, you will probably be perplexed by a place that serves fried everything, and also sells kits to paint your face green and yellow. This is more than just a place to get some beers and cased meat products. It's more like a shrine to this outsider Wisconsin lifestyle. I expected that dude from _American Movie_ to pop up with an MGD in his hand. There's a giant TV to watch the game (and I don't even need to explain what "the game" constitutes during football season), there's a space for bands to play, there's a store with all things Packers and some cheese to go, and there's the restaurant. The menu is simple and focuses around the bratwurst, the oversized sausage that's so popular in the area. There are many choices, all good. There are also appetizers you would not believe - fried cheese, fried cheese curds, fried mushrooms, fried jalapeno poppers. It's hard to pick just one or two things for the table, and that's before you get to french fries, sauerkraut, and coleslaw. If you are a vegetarian or care at all about your coronary health, seriously, just wait in the car. I'm not going to say this is the most top-notch food ever. What this place is really about is families and friends coming together to celebrate their region and their time together with foods that will most likely kill them over time. But that kind of shrine is needed in life, and that's why I enjoyed it so much. By the way, just behind this place is what might be the world's largest grocery store. The brat stop is a fun dive bar. We stopped for lunch an had 2 traditional bratwurst specials and a sausage sampler appetizer (as a meal). The food was yummy and hot. The homemade bratwurst and polish sausage was delicious. I liked the knockwurst and polish sausage best. The potato salad (German) was good but a bit sweet for me. My from-Germany cousin liked her brat and potato salad as well as the stout beer. My mom enjoyed the coffee stout and the sausage. A fun stop for about $10-12 a person. Recommended. read more

This place is pretty gross. not quite sure if its what a brat is supposed to taste like... but i definitely will not be trying it again nor would i recommend it. The customer service was great... but the food was hard, cold, flavorless and overly fried like it had been sitting under the heating lamp for hrs! Since it is called the Brat Stop the brats should be good and they were great!!! This was my first visit and probably my last. If you are craving a brat and are in the area I'd probably recommend you stop here for the brats, but know the atmosphere is just so so. The service was ok too...sort of slow. We got there about 6pm on a Thursday (last night) and it wasn't busy. The place seemed dirty, like it needed a good deep, thorough cleaning. It is dark and has a very strange set up and the floor, tables and booths just seemed dirty and outdated. All the staff was friendly too. Our experience was just ok. It was a bit pricey for 2 brat sandwiches, choice of potato and cole slaw plus 2 sodas our bill was $32. The brats were perfectly cooked and arrive on a yummy toasted bun but I just can't get past the dark, dirty dining area. read more

Really really slow service when I went, and it didn't seem that busy. Waiter was able to answer my questions. Brats are definitely good. If you're chillin' in a group and not in a hurry, you'll do fine. But if you're by yourself and you want to get back on the road, you'll end up slightly frustrated. Great food but can get grumpy service depends who's on. Specials every night meatloaf is great as is the prime rib. Fried chicken is a little over cooked but very tasty. Not fine dining but beer selection is good. They just need to smile more. read more

Great place! The food is great and bonus there is a cheese gift shop with pretty much every kind of cheese you could think of, and then some. I had the garlic brat which was delicious, the garlic was suttle and not overpowering so you could really taste the brat. The fried cheese curds were awesome. My husband and I can't have a trip to Wisconsin without stopping to at the Brat Stop. Every time we've been going there for at last 30 years. And I think he went there when he was a teenager. The brats are fantastic! The fries with Merks cheese delicious! And the beer even better than the Brats and the cheese fries. And don't let me forget the chili. Everything there is good the staff is friendly the place is definitely low-key no dress code whatsoever and family friendly. You can't go wrong at the Brat Stop. I've always heard about the Brat Stop so since we were passing through the area, I thought it would be a perfect opportunity to stop. Wow, this place is a dive! I have no idea what I was expecting, but this place wasn't it. We were here around 10 am and fortunately, it was open. There was barely anyone here that early which is expected of a typical bar/restaurant. They did serve breakfast though! Aside from the bar/restaurant that was strung with prerequisite, divey Christmas lights, half of which were burnt out, there is a full stage area for live performances. I can only imagine how loud that place gets when you have a local band covering Metallica songs. Anyways, I ordered a regular brat meal which came with fries and slaw. My bf ordered a breakfast dish that came with eggs and a brat. The food was decent although my brat was a still a lil pink on the inside. I still ate it and didn't get sick so no real complaints here. Since it is the "brat stop" I was expecting to be blown away by an amazing brat...it was just OK. Ehhh, if you want to stop to say you've been there, go for it...but don't stop expecting a mind blowing experience. read more

It is family friendly, as long as you aren't sitting right by the bar. The bar is home lots of drunken sports fans cheering and swearing. Ok, this is a great restaurant and I have been here several times and will be back, however the past couple times my boyfriend and I have been there, it was less than desirable. The food was great as always, however the service sucked. I am a server, so I am rather lenient on other servers when they are busy, but when it takes a very long time for a water refill, there is a problem. The table next to us which was seated by a hostess did not receive service for at least 5-10 minutes and only when I mentioned that they hadn't gotten anything. They need to stock up on staff and deal with that issue. read more
