Definitely in the top three of the winery/vineyard tours during our stay in Napa. I absolutely loved the unique feeling that Bravante offers. First, we had to "climb" the mountain to get to its secluded location. Then you're in for a surprise when you walk in. It's like walking into a cave. We visited on a super foggy day. The silence was almost deafening. Coupled with the fog, I seriously felt like we were in the middle of peace and serenity. Jake did an amazing job of showing us around and the Bravante way of wine making. We loved his warm energy. The wines here were amazing. We have done way too many tours on this trip and had stop purchasing wines at the last few tastings but we had to have some Bravante wine shipped home. Not to mention, Bravante is owned by two women! Sonny served my friend and I along with three lovely people from Finland. It was a lovely day and we were a bit early so we chatted and took a pouring while we waited a few minutes for our soon to be new friends. With our pourings Sonny regaled us with the history and specifics of the winery and terrior of this vineyard... we took a tour of the premise and Sonny explained the equipment they use (it being high tech,) the lovely crush pad, and wine cave. The tastings are superior, well finished and the varietals presented are worthy of a taste and buying. The Merlot Rose and the Merlot were what I bought and am looking forward to returning. I'll add I work in the wine industry for near two decades now and I don't give my accolades easily. read more

I can't say enough about Bravante. I had read the wonderful reviews posted by previous visitors, and I decided this was a must-do. My mother-in-law and I were only staying for 1 night in Napa, so we only had time for a handful of experiences, so I was being extra picky. In all, we visited 6 tasting rooms, and this was the best. I rate this statement on service, wine quality/taste, and atmosphere. First of all, I called a couple weeks in advance to schedule an appointment, which one needs for a tasting. It wasn't even supposed to be open on the 2 days we were there, but Dave made an appointment for the two of us anyway, because he's just that awesome. We showed up at noon on a Tuesday, and we got our own private tasting complete with a walk around the facilities and a tour of the barrel cave. Dave was amazing - not only knowledgeable and generous, but funny and likeable. By the time we left, I had purchased 4 bottles of wine (which for my meager salary is a lot), and my mother-in-law joined the wine club AND purchased bottles to take home. This is a gigantic feat, as she does not drink wine. Let me say that again - she is VERY PICKY and doesn't usually like wine - only sweet dessert wines. She couldn't stop raving about how good the merlot was, as well as the red trio, and I told Dave that he needed to pat himself on the back for this one! If you have the time, please give this little winery a visit! You won't regret it! read more

Came here to use the Napa Passport for the tour/tasting. Sonny was the one who helped us and he was incredibly knowledgeable with the wines and the winemaking process. We tried the Rosé and Sauvignon Blanc for our first 2 and then 4 reds. The Cab Franc and Cab Sauvignon were my favorites but the merlot was also very tasty. The tasting room is in a cave with a nice ambience. We got to visit the crush pad area and the barrel cave. Reservations are required but we were able to email the day before to get a spot. Definitely recommend coming here! It's up on Howell mountain and the property is beautiful. Glad we had the opportunity to come here. Bravante is up there as one of my must stops when in Napa Valley. After leaving Joseph Phelps which I consider the 'King' in all the land, I headed North on the silverado trail Bravante is nearby and was highly recommended as a must stop in tasting some great reds and whites. What makes Bravante so unique is the personalization that is provided with a boutique winery that you rarely get in Napa these days. Dave who provides some of the best wine tours and experiences you can find all over Napa understands that good wineries isn't just about branding and ratings but the experience and personalization that is attached to every unique visit and taste of each individual bottle of wine. Dave poured the 2005 Simpatico now called the Reserve (Flagship Wine) and his 2007 Estate Howell Mountain Cabernet, Cabernet Reserve, Cabernet Franc and Merlot and I must say the taste and finish is right there as some of the best. Yes 2007 was widely known as a great year for reds but Bravante's wine is very distinct in separating itself as a winery that can hold it's own with some of the best. The 2009 North Cost & Estate Sauvignon Blanc had such a balanced floral scent and creamy peach tasty finish which I really enjoyed. My wife and I came in not knowing too much about wine, but we walked away with a wonderful experience and a new appreciation for the art of wine making. Our host Dave was a warm and friendly man who enjoyed sharing his knowledge and love for wine and upscale wine making. Our favorites were the rose merlot and trio blend, as they were soft and delicious. Ask a lot of questions and go in unassuming. This place is great! Tucked away on Howell mountain, Bravante is a small but well managed vineyard with great wine. Dave, the person on sight in charge of most of the day to day operations, was very helpful in describing and explaining the wines we were tasting. Wine here is pretty decent if you get at the membership price. You supposed to be able to change wines for the wine pick up. When I requested to change out few wines (more expensive wine and few additional wines), I was told that it will be done. However, when I went in to pick up, nothing was changed to what I requested. Neither they were willing to change out on spot. read more

Very good, bold red wine. Dave was very informative. Gave us a private tour & private lesson for over an hour on the history of wine-making! My husband loves the Cabernet Franc. Very rude and arrogant owner spoke to me when I called to reserve a wine tour. I told him we had 4 people with only two people interested in the tour(the other two did not drink wine, just wanted to enjoy the scenery). The other two would sit in the picnic area. He said that was ok. Then I mentioned that I had a 2 for 1 wine pass. At that point he said we could not use the wine pass if we were 4 people with only two doing tasting. I frankly could not understand what a wine pass was for if they did not want to honor it, but politely told him that I understood he needed to make money, so I would pay for 2 passes. At this point he hung up on me! I will never visit this place and am writing this so other people know about this place. read more

ONce again, off the beaten path up Howell Mtn. David was great and answered all of our questions. I believe this place caps off at 10 people. The winery is beautiful and we appreciate touring the property and seeing the cave. The tasting room is a cave as well and was really nice. ONly problem was that there were only 5 barstools but 6 of us. There was a table where I guess they could fit more. Tasting was kind of pricey at $35 and the wines did not support that cost. Tasting fee was not waived even if you purchase a bottle. All in all, it was a nice experience. read more

After visiting multiple wineries during a wine excursion, I felt completely at home at Bravante. Dave, the winery manager, was such a fantastic host, and he was the most informative guide that we had had at all of the wineries that we had visited. Dave took us on a tour all around the winery and vineyard, and he always made it feel like we were the only people in the world. His undivided attention goes to the winery, and the people that he is entertaining with his jokes and personality. I also must admit this was the last winery we visited, and the saying is true, we saved the best for last.The price paid for this tour was phenomenal for everything that goes on throughout it.
