Good wine and beautiful vineyard. I felt the wine was overpriced for what it delivered in taste. And, the tasting itself was around $250 for two people. And, with that, I wasn't able to see the rock memorabilia room because that was "another level" of payment to go into there. Kind of ridiculous. read more

We went to Cliff Lede after winning an Elevated Tasting for four at a silent auction (worth $440) The space was nice and the wine was good - but make sure you absolutely do not bring children here as they are not family friendly despite being billed as such. We went on a relatively empty Monday afternoon and brought our children with us. Despite others commenting on how well behaved, polite, and quiet they were, we were told they were not allowed to play outdoors (even with us watching them), and were forced to have them sit inside with us. This disruption from management totally killed the vibe. They completely misread a moment and managed to ruin what would have been an otherwise lovely experience. read more

We had the best time tasting here. Made reservations for the VIP tasting and I feel like we were treated better than VIPs. I can't remember how this winery was recommended to us but it was a great tip. Sometimes you go to a tasting and the experience and wine don't match. This was the opposite. I can't tell you which was better the experience or the wine. To start off with, Bill Bishop was so friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating. We loved everything he had to say. We talked about so many different things it was like talking with a friend we have known forever. He went out of his way to let us taste something special because he knew we would love it and he was so right!! We were seated on the patio and it was a really beautiful day. We heard stories about the winery, the naming of the different plots, and of the past concerts played there that sounded amazing. We had such a lovely time. Though I couldn't see how we could buy 6 bottles of Poetry, I wish we could have. It was our favorite. We did walk away with two special bottles and we would absolutely love to taste here again. Cliff Lede is a relative newcomer in napa, having not been here long as the likes of your Phelps, Mondavis, etc...but they've since solidified their place with great great wine and warm hospitality that is much needed in an increasingly commercialized napa wine space. We arrived here on a Saturday after lunch with members, who booked our party of 4 the back room. This space offered a very spacious and comfortable setting. Although it was not exposed directly to the vineyards, it was surrounded by artwork, and our host Cherese gave us plenty of information about the winery and it's history to preoccupy ourselves with too! As far as the wine, if you are a big fan of red blends, in particular, bordeaux style blends, then this place will tickle your fancy. I imagine Cliff Lede carries his like of the old world style from his Canadian roots. But being in Napa, the wines have a bit more of a fruity and luscious character than your average blends. We liked all the offerings here, but we're big fans of their flagship bottle, Poetry the most. Overall, Cliff Lede vineyards is a great space with equally great wine and staff who operate it. What was the 11th winery stop of our Napa Valley trip up to that point, Cliff Lede is a lovely winery on the corner of Yountville Cross Road and the Silverado Trail, just down the street from neighboring Goosecross Wines. Having been established in 2002, Cliff Lede had some enjoyable wines that we tried at our reserve table tasting, such as the 2021 FEL Chardonnay, 2021 FEL Pinot Noir, 2019 Diamond Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon, and the 2019 "Roundabout Midnight" Rock Block Vintage Cabernet Sauvignon. The latter wine gets its name based on the name of the vineyard block, which is named out of respective rock albums and songs. "Roundabout" comes from the song by Yes, one of the cabernet grape blocks is named on the Yountville Cross Road south side, while "Midnight" comes from the song "After Midnight" by Eric Clapton that is named for another cabernet grape block on the east Silverado Trail side. The "Roundabout Midnight" was the one we enjoyed the most, and we bought and brought a bottle home to South Florida. The ambiance was chill and relaxed, with many classic rock tunes from the 1970s and 1980s playing through the speakers. We enjoyed strolling around the grounds after the tasting, taking pictures, and just enjoying the afternoon, which was sunny and close to 100 degrees in temperature. Fortunately, we opted to drive instead of a bike ride as that would have been grueling in those weather conditions. read more

We were originally scheduled for another winery but they were under construction and this winery was recommended by them as an alternative. It is a very small boutiquey winery with a beautifully landscaped seating garden area and a gorgeous open view of the vineyards. You need a reservation and the wine was quite exclusive in production and distribution and as a result very expensive. If you didn't buy it from the Wi wry you would not find it in a restaurant or store. It was a really nice experience and would recommend coming here. Very photogenic grounds. read more

What a lovely wine tasting experience! One of the most important things in my book is always whether the pupperino, Fig, aka Figith Mother of Demons is allowed. Luckily Cliff Lede allows well behaved pooches and Figalicious can be a very good girl. Every single staff member greeted Figgy F Baby and gave her her due. We were seated in the backstage room but first we got to go look at some of the vines and vibe out in the sun. We tried 5 wines and had some lovely complimentary cheeses. When we were stuck on which wine to purchase we were allowed another small sample to make our final selection. While the Pinot really didn't do much for me, the Cabernets were a real treat. The art was cool and my dead head dad was pleased with both the music and the guitars. read more

What a wonderful early April visit! We were so warmly welcomed, and winefully taken care of. We did the 'backstage' experience, as a little surprise for my mastering engineer brother, and were blown away... The blend of wine + music + art is, indeed, pure poetry (we appreciated the cheese plate too!) and conversation felt truly authentic -- it's always such a shame when you visit a winery with scripted wine spiel that you can hear repeated, word-for-word, at a neighboring table (and, thankfully, that was not Cliff Lede...there was great banter, solid wine / music / art / winery knowledge, and seemingly no scripted spiel!) Came for a tasting and sat at the outdoor patio. Nice Vibe with old school rock playing in the background. All of their vineyards are named after a classic rock song We started with the normal tasting Sauvignon blanc. Our host Eric was very intuitive after we told him we prefer the bigger bolder cabs, he switched the tasting line up to meet our likes. We had 3 different cabs ranging in price from $100 to $115. All were delicious and exactly what we were looking for. But Erik did not stop there we had the opportunity to try 3 of their high ends wines such as their flagship poetry. The Beckstoffer To Kalon was magic in a bottle. Bottom line Erik was great and the wines tasted were awesome. Looking for to coming back for their Rock Block party next month. read more

Three stars because the wines are generally very good and it's a beautiful place. I have been coming to this winery for many years and on my most recent visit I felt taken advantage of for the tasting due to the quality of wines for their "Reserve Tasting" and size of the pours. In the new normal, a $70 cost for four wines for a tasting is not unexpected in Napa but when you get four wines and start the "Reserve" tasting with a $36 Sauvignon Blanc that I can buy a bottle of at Total Wine for $36, I feel a bit duped. Suggesting that you either change the name of the tasting to properly set expectations or list the wines being poured so customers will understand the level of "reserve" wines that they are getting. Would also suggest that you double the pour size. I also have recognized a trend which has emerged that they seem to always have an extra discounted wine to offer at the end of the tasting. This is not unusual or generally unwanted as from my experience it's always deeply discounted and just as regularly, seems to be the most out of balance wine poured, hot in alcohol and a bit off, leading me to wonder if they are trying to get rid of it rather than give me a good offer. Similarly, I was offered a discounted "deal" for the 2014 Claret at the end of a tasting around 2017 that they weren't pouring and unfortunately bought 6 and ended up pouring the last two down the drain. Interesting choice again by the winery to push a wine at the end of the tasting that it appears they were trying to get rid of rather than offering a quality reserve wine at a discounted price. So as a result, I feel like too many business decisions are being made in the name of commerce rather than how I used to feel after a visit that it was a good winery that seemed to always give you a good experience at a fair price. read more

Cliff "Lady" Incredible wines in a very intimate setting. Very cute outdoor back patio type of vibes, very home-y and cozy. You feel like you're family there! Friendly service below average wine The winery's owner Cliff Lede is a classic rock fan. Classic rock music plays throughout the winery and there are some electric guitar signed by famous musicians. If you didn't make a reservations for a tasting then you can do a walk in tasting at the tasting bar. The wines are young and lack complexity. IMHO it's not worth the price. You can also buy a glass of wine and stroll about the winery. Besides the great classic rock music, we didn't feel like this winery was worth coming back. Day trip to wine country started with a reservation at Cliff Lede (pronounced lady). Immediately greeted and asked to wait while the group ahead of us were seated, no worries & gave us time to enjoy the atmosphere of the lobby / bar area. Led outside to a very comfy couch overlooking the vineyard, the weather was perfect, the scenery was perfect & the wines were super. What made it the best was our host, Bob. He was attentive without hovering, he had awesome stories and explanations of each wine, the stories behind the rock n roll names & how to best enjoy each tasting. Generous pours, I can say even though all reservations are timed....which is a given in this current pandemic situation......we never felt rushed Purchased a few cases.....nice way to start of a day visit with this happy discovery. Folks, I really don't know what happened. Given all the amazing reviews on here, I'm fearful that I have been extremely unlucky. However, I must leave a review because after finding out the $60 tasting fee per person, I felt it was simply a bad experience that I would never recommend to my friends, family, coworkers, or acquaintances. My parents brought my spouse and I to Cliff Lede Vineyards on Sunday, July 11, 2021. To give you context, I absolutely love great wine where my spouse and I are members at several places in California and Oregon. We believe wine tasting is a full immersive experience stemming from their customer service to the wine taste to purchase offering. When we arrived to the beautiful grounds, we had no one who checked us in. Maybe because we were somewhat late but we had to go to the back to get someone to escort over to our table. We sat outside and I believe our server name was Matt. We got to learn the history of the vineyard and also learning how to pronounce "Lede" correctly. While going through each of the wines, we noticed that server wasn't really give us our time. First, the server took my parent's glass and poured it out (still half full) informing us that we can always re-taste. Of the all the wine tasting I've done in my life, that has never ever happened. I was stunned. Second, when my parents politely asked our server to slow down so that they can enjoy the wine, the server informed us that he's on a schedule. I can understand that concern but the tables around us were completely empty when we ended. If the winery was actually booked, we would've obliged to vacate our seats. Overall, we felt rushed, disrespected, and dismissed. As for the wines, I didn't purchase any bottles. I was hopeful that it tasted delicious but my overall rating was about 4 out of 10. Don't get me wrong, all of them are drinkable. Given that spouse and I own over 300 bottles and are members at several places in California and Oregon, Cliff Lede Vineyards didn't make the mark. My spouse and I thought it was disappointment but there was no reason to be unhappy. My parents were extremely unhappy in the entire experience especially the customer service and how they were treated. When the parents informed me how much the tasting cost, I was more stunned and angry. My husband and I recently had the pleasure of visiting Cliff Lede for a private wine tour and tasting to celebrate my birthday. It was nothing short of spectacular! The vineyard and tasting room were stunning, the wines were amazing, and tour was so fun! The staff was friendly and knowledgeable, especially our host Rick. We really enjoyed our wine host who was incredible knowledgable and paid extra attention to our pallette. The map of the winery with its song title theme was an extra bonus. The wine itself was lovely and we found ourselves merging away from our typcial likes. We sat on the patio which wasnt the best setting as it was very basic, like the outside of a home's patio. There were columns in front of us so no view. The better area was further out that looked to have couches. This looked to be the higher priced area. 4 stars for the service but would probably not come back as the ambiance wasnt what youd expect for a Napa experience. read more

This review is a bit off standard, as I have not been in the public tasting room, or taken the tour. The Cliff Lede properties and vineyards occupy a chunk - 60 acres of vineyards, winery, tasting room, and the amazing Poetry Inn - of Stags Leap at the Yountville Cross Road on both sides of the Silverado Trail. It is a beautiful site. I have been in the working winery a few times - a big one - fitted with a state of the art optical sorter, tanks of every size from steel to concrete to wood, and modern offices overlooking the operation. The caves are extensive as well and all is designed for practicality, not just for show. I can say the wines are good and getting better. The winemaker, Chris Tynan, is the heart of the winemaking team since 2012, having spent time at Cain and Colgin, and has elevated the bottlings here, snagging his first 100 pointer this year. Can't comment on the tasting room experience, but do heartily recommend the wines and winemaker! read more
