This review has been in the making. About 2 years ago I got my crown done here and boy was it the worst experience ever. I finally got my crown replaced (at another dentist office) so I thought I would finally write about my experience, especially since my new dentist has made this such a pleasant experience. I was looking for a new dentist that took my insurance and came across this place. From my first visit to last visit every appt was unenjoyable. From the sketchy stairs, pee smelled elevator, office gossip, I do NOT recommend going here. Also the fact that they say they're a "Holistic" dentist but they're not. The receptionist started by giving me another patients info (total HIPAA violation). The dental assistant Mary was discussing workplace annoyances to me. My first appt was getting my temporary crown placed. While in the parking lot leaving, my temp crown fell out and was loose in my mouth. I was so shocked, not once was it mentioned that was a possibility, not to mention the possible choking hazard. I went back in to let them know and they treated it so nonchalant. I came back 2 weeks later to have my permanent crown seated. The crown was done so poorly. The shape should have 4 mounds, and was almost completely smooth. The height was also taller than my other teeth which messed up my bite. I mentioned that I didn't like the shape and it felt uncomfortable, so Dr Flath tried fixing the shape, which he then made worse, and shortened the side close to my gums. Then told me there was nothing he could do because the crown was too short now. I struggle going to the dentist so I found it hard to speak up and demand they replace the crown, especially because they kept dismissing me and saying "I had to deal with it". I went to my new dentist and they had said what an awful job was done. So I called Bravo Smile and told them I got a second opinion, that my dentist said the crown was cracking, causing inflammation, and had a void. Which shouldn't be happening in a year. Bravo Smile was not helpful in the slightest. I mostly spoke with Mary and she threatened me and hung up on me. So I was not able to get a refund and had to pay to get a new crown done in under 3 years. Anyway if you stayed to read my story, thank you, just wanted to give a warning of this place. Definitely do not recommend. read more

The dentistry part was fine, but when I made the appointment, they told me there was a new patient special. $79 for exam and X-rays. I had a regular cleaning. No cavities, no fillings. Somehow my total was over $400? They also do not send out appointment reminders. read more

Bravo Smile and their team is the best experience I've had with a general dentist cleaning. The hygienists have been the most knowledgeable I've come across and have patiently answered any questions I've had about my teeth. They have since moved away from their old office space which was honestly my biggest complaint as I saw people selling out of their trunk from the 7-11 downstairs, but they're now in a nice office park where I would feel very safe. I'm so sad I've since moved away because I don't think I'll find anybody as amazing as them! read more

This dentist office is so wonderful and so kind! Everyone was so helpful throughout my process as a new patient. I had to set up an appointment for a new filling and that was such an easy and quick process. The hygienist was very respectful of my fears and offered the gum numbing gel that was much appreciated. My teeth feel super clean and my gums are refreshed! Dr. Flath was very patient with my concerns and made sure to answer all of my questions. He even went through my xrays with me to show me the status of my teeth! I have never had a dentist happily explain so much to me and it really helped me feel less scared about being at the dentist. Everyone was very friendly and kind from the reception office when booking, to the hygienist, the dentist and all other office personnel made me feel welcome. I was put at ease with casual conversation and my visit was not painful or scary. I had not been to a dentist in a long while and they did not make me feel guilty or embarrassed. Not only does Dr. Flath take most forms of insurance and is his staff very kind, but he is also an awesome, caring person. I recently had an amazing teeth cleaning at Dr. Flath's office, the best one I've ever had, in fact. It looks like I got my teeth whitened, kid you not. Ellen, the hygienist, actually removed some flecks of yellow dental cement from braces I had about 20 years ago, something that no one has been able to do or done, and she did it all while we casually chatted about naturopathic medicine. Great experience with this dental office. Front office is very helpful and very kind. Chris goes above and beyond which does not go unnoticed or unappreciated. Went in for cleaning , and trouble with a few problem areas. I have had extensive dental work over the years. I was greeted with warmth, and the appt just got better. Waiting room had a soft buttery leather sofa that I wanted to luxuirate on . ...but did not get to! Was called back for yreatment within 5 mins of my arrival. Lauren, the hygenist was exceptionally kind, gentle and super experienced w. dental treatments , and conditions. She and I got chatting, and the next thing I knew.... BAM! My cleaning Was done!!! I am normally skittish, and have supersenitive teeth. I DID NOT FEEL A Thing!!! Dr Flath, treated me w. kind gentle caring, and listened to all my concerns. I am overly thrilled to find this dentist, and hygenist! Very reasonable price wise. I use flex spending, but would gladly pay cash out of pocket for treatment. I used parking garage nearby, but did not have to as they have parking for patients on site. Yeah!! read more

I was referred to this dentist by my GP, and he is brilliant! Dr. Flath has just the right combination of pro-activeness and "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" attitude. I went in recently with a complaint of a painful tooth which I thought would surely result in a crown. But the Doc took X-rays, had a close look, and didn't find anything to suggest a big intervention. Instead, he burnished the tooth down a tiny bit (at no cost), suggested we watch it, and a week later the pain is gone and I'm NOT out a thousand bucks! HIs office manager, Marina, is extremely professional and on top of things. The hygenist, Lauren, is fantastic. Possibly the best hygenist I have seen in Portland. She can keep you entertained with her adventurous stories, and the hour goes by fast and painlessly. Warning: She WILL find a diplomatic way to tell you you are not flossing enough. The lesson has stuck with me such that I have changed my habits for the better. read more

Was experiencing pain after work done by Dr. Flath. My excellent new dentist fixed the suboptimal work Flath performed; an invasive procedure that was not necessary and in fact, was an erroneous decision in the first place. This caused undue physical and emotional stress going through an unnecessary and high-cost dental procedure. He still charged me. RECOMMENDATION: Get a second opinion on any "needed" procedure (beyond cleaning) that dr. Flath suggests. read more

I couldn't be happier about Dr. Flath's office. Everybody there seemed happy and supportive. All three times I've gone in, they get me into the dentist chair and get to work quickly (but not hurried). Dr. Flath talked to me about what was happening, without pressuring me in any direction; he even told me one problem spot didn't require treatment, when I assumed that drilling would be necessary. When it came time to get more than a checkup and cleaning, it was as pain-free an experience as I could have asked for, and the results are great. My wife's hatred of dentistry is almost boundless, but even she loved Dr. Flath's office. Thanks! read more

Do not go to this office! I had some poor work done there. I had to get the damage repaired @ OHSU dental school. I had to pay 1500 dollars to get it repaired. read more

Dr. Flath is by far the best dentist I've been to. He's always done great work on me and my teeth and I couldn't be happier with his service. The entire staff is wonderful there. And he isnt judgy about broken teeth, thanks in part to Portland's un-fluoridated water. Thanks Portland! read more

Fantastic dental care. I am an old person and Dr. Flath is so kind and gracious. He re-did some old work that was failing, replaced some fillings and put in new onlays. Was able to see a hygienist to get my teeth cleaned, very good job. Staff is very nice and they are happy to work with my ability to get into the office. My smile is beautiful. Dr Flath recently reworked a filling which fell out. The filling was done by another dentist and that was not a good experience. However, Dr Flath was outstanding and I have never been so comfortable during a dental procedure. He was careful, considerate, and professional not to mention that the quality of work was excellent.
