These guys are a family owned business, and have been around for more than 20 years. Over time, they expanded from the back corner of Ivy Place. In fact, part of the store is where the old Spoons and Spice location used to be. Tastees has all kinds of Eastern European baked goods, cheeses and meats, imported shelf staples, etc. Nice treats too! The day I stopped by, they had just restocked their Milka chocolates, and there was a broad selection to choose from. My favorite part was the large selection of fresh and marinated meats, they've got cuts you can't find in a chain grocery store. It's all displayed behind a case, you ask the butcher to weigh the amount you're looking for, then it's bagged and tied up. I got a pound of the marinated flap steak to grill for tacos - it's absolutely amazing! The produce section is a bit limited, but there is plenty of what is needed for Mexican and Central American cuisine; Roma tomatoes, aloe vera, cilantro, radishes, peppers, limes, green onions, yellow and white onions, key limes, etc. Every lime I touched was the perfect ripeness, a very different experience than most other stores' citrus selections. There were many different sizes of corn and flour tortillas, some were crispy, some were made from blue corn, big bags, small bags. I loved the drink selection here of Mexican beers, aloe drinks, yogurt and fruit drinks, etc. There are a few aisles of dry and canned goods, pastas, beans, cooking oils, chips, masa, lots of Mexican sweets, shampoo, household cleaning items. I noticed this market has an awesome hot sauce and spice selection right next to the meat counter, you could probably read bottles for 30 minutes and still have more to see. I found some excellent freshly made unlabeled salsa in a fridge by the check out (very tasty, very spicy!), some baked goods, and a selection of tortilla presses and other cooking implements by the entrance. I prefer to taste the avocado more, so we don't get that anymore. It's just too hot to enjoy or taste the other flavors. But if you like spicy guacamole, you will love it!
