Brea Mall will always hold a special place in my heart. Once I could drive, Christmas shopping went from tagging along with my mom and dad and having them pay for stuff to doing full-on three-hour trips that would take forty-five minutes without the crowds. It was the 1990s, and although I never could quite find anything I wanted at Egghead Software sort of across the street, I did usually get a thing or four from Brea Mall. And then my worldview changed or at least got more consistent, and I did a couple of one-man protests here. I was maybe twenty-one or twenty-two at the time, but I didn't budge when the plainclothes mall security tried to intimidate me, and when they threatened to call the cops, I told them to go right ahead. When the cops arrived, I told them that under California law, privately owned mall parking lots were considered semi-public places, so as long as I wasn't blocking the sidewalk, I could pass out as many anti-sweatshop flyers to passersby as I wanted. The cop talked to the security guard and left. The security guard didn't say another word to me, and I soon went into the mall and tried passing out flyers there. The layout is really confusing. That's all right. It's funny to get lost while driving here but know you'll always end up just around the corner. Or at that weird Outback Steakhouse that's in the strangest location in the history of Outback Steakhouses, Bay Area doozies included. State College. Bobby McGee's (with its strange toilet novelty mugs). That parking structure on the northwest side that made absolutely no sense and was a nightmare to get out of anytime in December or January. I remember bringing clothes I got for Christmas on January 2 or 3. It was the first time I had ever returned things for myself, and although I got the deed done in three hours, I knew my mom was right; it was really stupid and a waste of time to try to do returns so soon after Christmas. read more

When you have time to kill and don't want to spend a pocketful of money for entertainment, where do you go? The mall. Staying at the Embassy Suites behind this shopping center, I wandered over here one morning. The anchor stores are Nordstrom and Macy's and there are the usual mall shops here. Like most malls, it can become somewhat of a maze, but fortunately the maps are strategically placed to wipe the question mark off my face (http://www.simon.com/mall/malldirectory.aspx?id=233). There's a Cheesecake Factory, BJ's, and Red Robin's here for those who want to make a day of it. I already went to South Coast. I already went to Cerritos. I already went to Main Place. Spectrum is too far. Fashion Island is too far. "Let's go to Brea!" said BFF. Brea it is. At 10:30am on a Saturday, the place was surprisingly crowded. I guess people just normally start their days earlier than I do, because I was feeling so cracked out. Hair wet, decked in my "teenager" clothes and flip flops, I stuck out like a sore thumb. I didn't know people in Brea liked to dress so nicely at the butt crack of dawn (10:30am on a Saturday morning is practically dawn - in my perspective). Yawning profusely, we trudged from Macy's to Nordies and back around again. I used to come to Brea a lot as a kid, and the place used to seem so big way back when. It didn't seem so big this time around, and we'd circled the entire mall in the same amount of time it would've taken me to walk from Bloomie's to Saks at South Coast. Strange, strange, strangely small mall. But, on a positive note, the retail offerings were actually pretty decent. The stores all seemed to be on the large side, and they ranged from the super affordable to the pretty expensive. The mall seems to offer a wide variety of choices for every class of shopper, from the rich to the poor, from the young to the old, to the hip to the classic. Variety is always good in a mall! Again, I was just weirded out that it was so crowded on a Saturday morning. I wasn't exactly standing shoulder to shoulder with strangers, but c'mon, I can only imagine how much worse it must be later on in the day, when the rest of the teenagers wake up and begin their mall crawls. *shudder* read more

I was informed by a resident of Brea Mall that from Tuesday to Thursday it's easy to find parking. She also told me that the Lancome store at this mall was closed. It's most likely because Lancome products are sold at the department stores in this shopping center. Towards Christmas, shopping will pick up and it will get harder to find parking. read more

Eh...i don't like this mall. if it wasn't so close to my school (CSUF) i wouldn't bother. This mall used to be one of my favs but now its annoying. It's filled with annoying people that walks super slow, it's filled with annoying teenagers on a damn tuesday afternoon, it's filled with annoying college frat guys tryin to "holla" at you. -__- lame!!!! The forever21 sucks here, food court is bleh, NOT TO MENTION THIS MALL IS CONFUSING AS FUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What's up with that extra secret hiding section where i think Nordstrom and JC penney's is located at??? (not too familiar with this mall but it's where Charlotte Russe and Abercrombie and Fitch is). There must of been numerous times where i walked around in circles and did a full 360 on myself because i realized either i've been through this section before OR there wasn't any good stores in that section. Also, there seem to be an endless amount of annoying hair curlers/straighteners kiosks stands. THEY'RE FREAKIN EVERYWHERE!!!!!!!! Definitely one of the best malls in the area. Parking: Always easy to find Stores: they offer a lot of great stores here. I frequent sephora, urban outfitters, Godiva, and nordstroms. This mall isn't too overly crowded like a lot of people mention. It usually has a nice crowd. I love grabbing a quick drink at Starbucks so I can sip on something while I shop around. They also have nice restaurants right outside the mall like BJs and Cheesecake Factory. Not a fan of either of those places but both seem to be popular. The food court inside the mall is typically better than most. Kabobs, Mongolian bbq, Taco Bell, Cinnabon, Panda Express, chipotle, and plenty others. They also have a CPK and Red robins inside as well. Whenever I need to shop for something or I just want to walk around the mall and eye-shop I always frequent this mall. The Brea Mall is great with a great selection of stores and Restaurants! My biggest issue is the lack of Public Restrooms. There is one. One in the Food Court on the second level. When you're 9 months pregnant and have to waddle from one end of the mall to the other and go upstairs to relieve your bladder is very hard (and at times painful ). Would the Mall consider putting in another restroom for their patrons maybe on the ground floor or at another end of the Mall? Thank you. read more

Honestly, this is one of the nicer malls I frequent. I grew up next to Santa Anita Westfield, but the Brea mall is more spacious and has a much better selection of stores. Parking can be a pain, but for the most part, there is plenty of it because of all the parking lots and structures around. My go to is the structure near Macy's because the top floors are usually open and you don't have to walk too far to get inside. They have recently made improvements to the interior and exterior of the mall to give it a fresh, new look. They're also revamping the food court and welcoming newer residents like Chipotle in. Their Godiva and Express stores are some of the larger ones I've seen (love them!). There is also plenty of seating in every section of the mall. Overall, super convenient if you don't want to drive into LA or down to South Coast. read more

Average mall, but since all the other malls are upgrading it is left behind. It is not nearly as nice as most other malls. Simon gift cards suck ass. They charge $2.50 per month if you don't use it right away. They found a loophole in California law which says gift certificates can not expire or charge fees. The loophole is that if the gift card is issued by a bank with the Visa logo the bank can charge fees for the issuer. But we get even with them, since the card is taken anywhere that takes Visa, we use it elsewhere. Thus Simon gets none of the money. read more

A very decent mall for the area...actually, the only mall in the area. A lot of higher end stores that are good for shopping for clothes. Its location right off of the freeway makes it a big plus. But I am starting to see signs of downgrading. It seems that the selection in the stores is starting to get a bit cheaper. I don't know if it is because tey have a high volume of sales to teenagers and college students. This mall is the epitome of the status quo. If you like a place that you know what to expect then you will find a great deal of selection here. But if you are looking for individuality or uniqueness, you will probably have to go down towards Costa Mesa. Even the restaurants on the outskirts of the property are huge chains. read more

Brea Mall is fairly decent. Macy's and Nordstrom have wide selections and the latter has great customer service. There are many trendy stores including H&M, Forever 21, Guess, Bebe, Express, Victoria's Secret, Steve Madden, and Windsors. There's also Coach and Apple. There's a large food court, many fast food restaurants, and a good amount of popular chains nearby including BJ's, The Cheesecake Factory, Olive Garden, Red Robin, and Red Lobster. read more

This is not my favorite mall of choice but it's the closest one to where I live. At the same time, I have been coming here for years as it's close to home, and have a decent selection of stores that I shop at. With that being said, over the years and very recently they have revamped the mall to look more modern, and have added several stores. Don't get me wrong, it's not a bad mall. Not a bad mall at all. It doesn't have your high end selection like South Coast Plaza but what mall does? Not many. The mall is clean, along with a nice selection of stores that people shop at every day, and a decent food court. I've bought every thing from a fridge at Sears, to shoes at Footlocker, and shirts at different stores. The food stores here have changed here and there but overall they have a good selection of food here no matter what your taste is. Whether you like pizza (Blaze Pizza), Taco Bell, Sushi, Mongolian BBQ, Hot Dog on a Stick, Cinabon, it's all here. The parking here forever sucks, and during Christmas time, good luck. better to Uber here if you live near by during Christmas time or get dropped off. Overall, a good mall with a good variety of stores. You wont find super high end stuff here but you will find stores that sell stuff for every day use, and I think that is most important. read more

I love coming to this mall. It always feels so spacious! I usually don't have trouble finding parking. They have great stores such as bath and body works, lunch box, and hot topic. They also have good food/snacks such as Cinnabon, lees sandwiches, and Burger King. The only thing I don't like is the drink machine by the food court, near the exit. I put in $2 to buy a water, and it took my money. I called the number they placed on the machine, waited half an hour only to be told their experiencing a tech issue and hung up on me. Who knows how much money the machine has robbed because $2 add up! read more

I grew up going to this mall since 1993. Back then it was a place of it's own, it really was. Regardless if there were countless malls that all seemed to be the same, but this Mall really stood out to me for some reason. I think mainly it was the food court (I'm talking 1993-1994 here) and it having a few stores that no other mall within a 20 mile radius had at that time. But it was also a hangout. I'd bike a good 4-5 miles everday on my little bmx bike just to go hang out there all day. Sampling the food court and so forth, spending a majority of my time in Suncoast (They're gone now-argh!) and they also used to have a Coca-Cola store there that was fantastic! Not there anymore, but hey, places change, it's been years and years now. I've been there off since moving from Fullerton in 1995. Now that I am back here residing in the Tri-City area, I can say that I still enjoy this mall. I will say, It's not like it used to be. It's really evolved into becoming much more like the rest of the Malls you go to. But hey...we're in these times. Now I'm in there and I enjoy to the best of it. In my youth I was a mall rat. I am not that any longer. So the idea of going to the mall for anything more than a quick purchase just seems a bit like I'm not going to enjoy it. This mall parking lot in itself is frustrating. Think of it as a giant sprocket. You need to find whatever cog piece you parked at and then you'll be able to trace your way back.. that is if you're even able to find parking. The place has the most annoying parking and sharing it with cheese cake factory and BJ's just means that there's more people gunning for spots. The lay out of the mall also isn't something I'm used to and the amount of people that come here really does make me feel like I'm an ant in the chain looking for a piece of scraps on the picnic cloth. The stores offered are pretty decent. You get the standard mall options. The hot topic is your typical hot topic fair and well, I can't really think of anything else in here that I'd really go into. This is simply put, typical mall fodder. Just be careful with parking. So totally annoying. read more

This is my home mall, bitches. Yeah, I know that there's Bay Street and there's the Westfield Center in the City, but I've lived in Brea since I was 10, and I've been going to the mall since then too. It's changed. Stores have changed, but the main stores - Macy's, Sears, JCPenny, and Nordstorm haven't. They have a very big H&M, a decent sized Forever 21, a nice For Love [which is the accessories for Forever21], Banana Republic, Urban Outfitters, Hollister, Abercrombie, and much much more. I think that there is a variety of different clothing stores for the teenages, but also for the moms as well. The food is decent here. The food court has pretty average food. The restaurants around are much better. There is a Red Robin, CPK, the French restaurant, Le Diplomate Cafe, and others. There's also an Olive Garden, Red Lobster, Cheesecake Factory, and BJ's right in the same area. There are much more restaurants as well across the street. Parking here does suck, especially since I did decide to go most recently on Black Friday. I had my mom drop me off and pick me up later so it was a lot easier, but the best parking spots as said by others is in the Nordstorm parking lot across the street from the Community Center. The layout might be weird to some people, but its comfortable to me. I know where everything is and that's the way I like it. There's like two central places with a corridor that connects the two. One goes towards the two Macy's and Sears; the other one goes to JCPenny and Nordstorm. Once you understand this, it's a lot easier to get from one place to another. Brea Mall. I love you. I used to frequent the Brea Mall when I was doing my undergrad years in the area. The mall is clean and there are lots of stores that I like all in one spot (I even did Black Friday shopping there one year). Though I don't get to visit the Brea Mall as often now, I try to make it a point to go if I'm ever in the need to kill time while in the area. I always tend to park by Sears (close to The Cheesecake Factory or BJ's) because I tend to end up having dinner at one of those two places anyway! Here are some of the stores I often visit when I'm at the Brea Mall: Apple: Not every mall has an Apple Store, so sometimes I just walk in to browse new products, check out the latest gadgets or mentally do some price comparison if I'm looking for a specific accessory. Disney Store: ... who doesn't love a trip to the Disney Store? Though I usually don't get anything from here--unless it's some Park merchandise that's on sale--I always love to browse and see what's new at the House of Mouse. Godiva: I usually take a quick stroll in and out of Godiva to see if there are any chocolates on sale ... and to inhale the sweet aroma from all the truffles that are on display. Hollister: If I do visit Hollister, I usually make a beeline for the back of the store, where the sale/clearance section is. I once bought a shirt for $9 here, and sometimes you can find some really good deals if your timing is right! Kelley's Kookies: This is one of my new favorite additions to the Brea Mall. I normally don't like shortbread cookies ... with the exception of the delicious delicacies from Kelley's Kookies. They feature seasonal flavors, as well as traditional favorites, like the famous chocolate-dipped macadamia nut shortbread. Best of all: They offer free samples throughout the store. AND if you check in on Yelp, you get a free custom-made hand-dipped shortbread cookie to enjoy right there. Macy's: I always seem to have an abundance of Macy's coupons in my wallet, so I usually stop by the store to see if there are any items on sale/any way I can use some of these coupons. Some of those 20 percent off deals have definitely come in handy before. Mrs. Fields: I guess Mrs. Fields is like "The Cookie Corner" of the mainland. Though the cookies don't taste exactly the same to me, I always enjoy the selection at Mrs. Fields when I need a sweet pick-me-up. Some of my favorites include "Milk Chocolate Chip with M&Ms," "Peanut Butter" and "Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chip." Papyrus: I love beautiful cards, and though Papyrus doesn't usually have huge sales, I have benefitted from a few of those cards-at-half-price sales in the past. Regardless, I always love looking at the great assortment of cards they have. Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory: I usually can't stay in Rocky Mountain for too long without being tempted to buy something, so my visits to the chocolate factory are brief. I just peruse over the selection of chocolates and gaze longingly at the decorative caramel apples before leaving the store. Rocky Mountain is one of the few places that carries the sugar-free chocolates that my grandma likes, so I'll occasionally get some for her, since there is no Rocky Mountain store where she lives. See's Candies: I always love visiting See's Candies cause it smells so remarkably good in there. I also always hope they're not too busy to give away free samples, but it's always fun to see the seasonal treats that the candy shop is featuring. Sephora: This Sephora location is just as crowded as some others I've been to, but if I ever need to re-apply lip gloss--or get a gift card--this is a store is a go-to stop. Spencer's Gifts: I think I only stopped into this store for the first time during my latest trip to the Brea Mall, but I was surprised that I actually found something to buy. There's a unique assortment of graphic tees here, so I actually found one that I knew my cousin would love. Urban Outfitters: This is another store that I usually don't buy anything from, but it's fun to browse and look around. I often see cooler things for guys than girls--just cause that boho-look isn't really my style--but there are some cool graphic tees for guys ... and if you're lucky, they may even be on sale. read more

One thing on my bucket list is to shop at as many malls possible. "I'm a material girl, 'cuz I live in a material world." So I've kept my own mental reviews of malls in the United States (even way before Yelp was a zygote form of cyber existence). I visit malls like how a tourist person would collect memorable shot glasses and magnets. I was hooked on coming to the Brea Mall because I stayed home with my daughter for 9 straight months, and experienced some severe cabin fever around by month #3. What's a stay-at-home mommy like me going to do on the days when all the laundry is all done and bottles are washed? Should I stay at home to watch Keeping Up With the Kardashians, or go to the mall and shop like the Kardashians? Of course go the mall with my baby daughter in tow! Brea Mall is very mommy friendly for women who have babies and women who are nursing their babies every 2 hours. The bathrooms are large and always clean, and so are their lounges. You get privacy. The only thing they need to work on is adding another elevator for mommies who use double strollers. The elevator that all the parents line up for is too small, and the elevator doors seems to close too fast on you. Be careful with hands and arms while entering. Brea is a fun mall to visit whenever I'm having a bad day. The people who shop there aren't the loud, bratty, obnoxious teens that you find in let's say, Cerritos Mall. The sales people very pleasant because they probably don't have to deal with obnoxious customers. Everyone is just chill. I think it has the right combination of stores in one spot. My favorite places to go are Sephora, JC Penny, Apple, and Nordstroms. Food Court area is huge. Lots of hidden treasures awaiting. I know I'll really regret posting this later, but I must say that I always score on the best stuff on clearance at Brea, while everyone else makes an failed attempt to bargain shop at South Coast Plaza. Lastly, if I had a choice, I'd rather go to Brea Mall during the hectic Christmas season, than anywhere else! read more

I've been coming here for years, and so many stores have changed since I first started frequenting this mall. Good amount of parking surrounding the mall. Structures are available as well. Cheesecake Factory, and BJ's are in the same area. The food court is eh, but isn't much different from other malls. Panda Express, genghis khan, cold stone, hot dog on a stick, and Jamba Juice are all available, plus more. The only stores I really go to are Victoria secret (recently remodeled and expanded), forever 21 (pretty small compared to others), apple, h&m (decent men's section, Nordstrom, and sephora (my favorite!). As of 9/13/13, there is a lot of construction going on around the mall, but it doesn't get in the way of your shopping. Overall, a decent mall but it can get better. read more

They are opening now. While I am anxious to go back I am hesitant and will wait a while to see how it goes. It is recommended by the CDC that even with a face covering you should maintain at least a 6' distance. Sadly, too many people are misinformed and are not bothering to use a mask. It just takes one. This is a lethal and highly transmittable virus for which there is no cure. While I love the mall I don't feel it's safe yet. I hope everyone is considerate and follows safety protocols, but sadly I know there are many who don't care about anyone but themselves and they ruin it for everyone else. Second best mall in the OC next to SCP. Came here to walk off a some calories after Olive Garden. Lucky we found parking so I am just going to walk. Definitely a bunch of stores to go to. I was born in Brea like literally a minute drive from the Brea Mall, so needless to say I've been here about 100 billion times. This mall used to be my favorite, and I would come here long after moving from Brea to other places in OC. Brea Mall has a good: MAC, Sephora, Apple (ALWAYS overly crowded), Nordstrom, Express, For Love 21, Victoria Secret, and food court. Bad: Forever21 (don't even get me started, I don't know why I always think I'm going to have anything but an awful experience at this place and I'm always wrong), H&M, Robert Wayne, and those SUPER annoying italian guys that want to curl your hair every five feet (like seriously, do they freaking grow these guys here or what, where did they find so many annoying seemingly straight Italian guys with such a passion for curling like 3 strands of your hair?) It seems like every time I come here lately I like this mall less and less. It just seems so disorganized, overly crowded, and feels more like I'm doing a chore than engaging in a little retail therapy. Also, I've noticed everyone walks slower than the average slow mall walker here! What's with that? Like did you come here just to walk in the middle of all the aisles really slow and leave? Or did you actually come here to shop for something. And why do people always try to cut in front of me in line at the elevators when I come with my sister and niece? Hopefully, this is all just due to Christmas and will go back to not being so bad soon. Nice mall, lots of stores to choose from, lots of chairs to relax in while the wife shops. I did some of my X-mad shopping here and it was an easy in and out. I even got lucky with a front row parking spot. It looks like they just recently remodeled the entrances and I thought everything looked nice. The mall has an old school pet shop and it was fun playing with all the puppies, it's hard to find a pet shop these days. read more

The first time I came to this mall was an eye opener. Wow! This is such a nice mall! It has EVERYTHING!!!!! This is my mall of choice hands down!! It has Victorias' Secret, Brookstone, Teavanna, Sephora, Nordstrom, Aldo, Steve Madden, the shoe clinic, Jamba Juice, Wetzels Pretzels, Chipotle, Blaze Pizza, Gengis Khan, foriegn Exchange, the puppy store, spencers, hot topic, Sears, Macys, Apply, Forever 21, Freidricks of Hollywood, Everything but water, Goiva, Things Remembered, Papayas, and more!! This place is huge, and beautiful and wonderful!! It needs a theater then it would be absolute perfection. read more

This mall has everything you could ever want in a mall. I love how Sephora, Forever 21 and Victorias Secret are grouped together in the same area. And Spencers and Hot Topic are next to each other. This mall gets really busy on the weekends and parking is hard to find, but they do have a parking structure over by Macys. read more

Decent selection of stores, and perfect if you're just in the mood to pass time, take a walk, and grab Hot Dog on a Stick. :) We don't often walk out of here with merchandise, but on occasion, Banana Republic will have some good bargain finds in their sale section. The Nordstrom is well stocked, displayed, and maintained. I can't say the same thing for Macy's, especially the women's dresses wing. Dining choices are pretty limited to the food court (which don't have many healthy options), and the franchises on the perimeter of the mall. You're pretty much better off getting a small snack and saving your appetite for elsewhere. Downtown Brea isn't too far away at Birch St., and the food options there are much better. This mall has stayed the same since when I used to frequent throughout high school and college years, and though it worked well back then, it certainly isn't as attractive nowadays.
