The cutest tiny coffee shop serving fresh baked bread and excellent coffee. I've been here several times for iced cortados and they're always great! The homemade honey lavender syrup is a must-try! I've somehow managed to resist getting a fresh-baked pastry so far (notwithstanding how delicious it smells in there) but I will definitely try one soon. Was in the area this weekend when my bf was looking for some coffee. We stumbled upon this spot, where he got an iced americano w/ oat milk and I got an iced turmeric latte w/ almond milk. I really wanted to love this spot (since I believe it's Asian owned) and my drink, but I have to say my iced turmeric just tasted like ...milk. I know turmeric is usually pretty subtle, but the drink was super bland. Wouldn't recommend, especially for $7. Perhaps it's better as a hot drink? Bf's americano was good, standard coffee. Also interesting that the oat milk cost 40 cents while the almond was $1. We did notice the Asian buns as other reviewers had mentioned and they looked really good - didn't get to try them this time around. The cafe was pretty quiet, as we sat for a little to drink. She has technique down, and has a signature latte art heart that matches the cute teaspoon with a heart on it. La Colombe coffee. The barista was legit. Had a nice americano and then tried a non caffeinated pea latte. It was blue, creamy, and earthy tasting. I stopped by Bread & Joe's this morning to grab a morning coffee and a quick bite. Service here is quick and the man working the counter was very friendly. I enjoyed the small selection of pastries, and especially liked the egg ham bun I picked up. It definitely reminds me of something I would pick up at an Asian bakery in Chinatown. Is it pricey? Heck yea. Is it worth it? Every penny. I have tried almost every coffee place in close proximity to Bread and Joe, and nothing beats them. There mocha iced coffee is ahhhmazing! The staff is always so friendly and kind. They serve the most outstadning baked items that it just blows my mind how fresh there selection is. They bake 99% of the stuff showcased. You must try anything with the bread they bake in house, and the chocolate chip cookies are just out of this world. The coffee is strong and the food is tasty. They have a card that after a certain amount of visits you get a free coffee. I did not like the matcha donuts but mostly becuase they were a bit too bitter for me. If you love matcha that is your donut. TIP: They sell out quick of the ham and egg in the morning. Cons: They charge an extra 75 cents for soy or almond milk instead of regualr milk, so a iced mocha will be almost 6 dollars with almond milk. read more

Cute hole in the wall with about 3 tables and seating along the window. I got an iced dirty chai which was pretty good, but I couldn't really taste the espresso. I also got nice, light and flaky chocolate croissant. I really wanted to try their matcha donuts but they were out. Next time! Four stars bc I called yesterday to see if they were open since the 3 times I've tried to visit this place they've always closed 10-15 minutes before their closing hours (M-F 6:30-5pm, Sat 8-4pm, and Sun closed). Stepped in to buy an earl grey milk tea with bubbles and a small coffee (all for 7 bucks). Cute little bakery steps away from the R train. Suitable for small groups as they have tables seating parties of two. I'd say maximum occupancy is about 8. They have a couple of baked goods..some Chinese breads (ham & egg, ham, egg, & cheese, hot dog buns. There's also a nice selection of muffins and drinks. We ordered a matcha latte, draft latte, and regular ice coffee in addition to ham egg buns. You can't go wrong with a La Colombe draft :). It was good. The matcha was pretty straight forward but if you don't like a heavy bitter matcha taste consider adding sugar to it. Its not sweet without it. The ham and egg bun was average. I'm used to the bread part having a more sweet taste to it but it was still a good snack. Prices are pretty high but it doesn't look like they have much competition in the area. I didn't notice any other Asian bakeries in the area. We paid $21 total. Would come here every now and then but it probably won't be my go to spot! read more

Very good matcha green tea-glazed donut with a cake consistency. It's not too sweet, and the cake texture is reasonably light. On the small size compared to what other places sell, but perfect for the richness. While the prices aren't expensive, they're of course more expensive and smaller than what you'd find in Chinatown or Sunset Park. However, I'm willing to bet the quality of ingredients is higher and the service much friendlier. read more

I was here last Thursday after dropping by at my significant other's work. I like that this is conveniently located close to a train station. This is a small but nice cafe with some tables which makes it such a cozy place to do some work (I am just not sure about electrical plugs). The barista who got my order was nice. I got a mocha and a pork bun. I definitely enjoyed my mocha. I will definitely come back to try more of their drinks, especially their milk teas! They serve a variety of breads and pastries. Great coffee shop with delicious baked goods! Been going here for a year now, since I moved to the neighborhood. They were shut down for a while during peak covid, so great to see them back up and running! The coffee is fantastic (they brew La Colombe and they brew it well), the staff super friendly, and the kicker for me is the delicious Asian-style baked goods. I lived in HK for three years, and my wife and I both agree that this place has the tastiest hot dog buns we've ever tried. Not sure what they do, but the bun pretty much melts in your mouth. Baked daily in the morning. In my experience they sell out by lunch time, so make sure to get there early. read more

This review is for vegans and vegetarians. Bread and Joe is different from most coffee shops because they have bubble tea, Asian breads/pastries, as well as traditional coffee/snack options. I also loved that it was not too crowded and I got a chance to catch up on work in a quiet/comfortable space with wifi. In terms of vegetarian and vegan options they do have vegan matcha cake, and was unsure if any of the other options were vegan friendly. Hidden gem! Well, hidden in that its kind of in the middle of nowhere. Whats this neighborhood, South South Slope? lol Love it! Would love to come back and try some of the cold brew they have on tap. Heard about the matcha green tea donuts, and they were even better than I thought they'd be! Must do! Must eat! Great price at $1.75, but they are a bit small. HOLY CRAP IT HAPPENED. IT OPENED! . . . Okay ... I should elaborate. I've been literally stalking this cafe for MONTHS waiting for it to open. Every now and then I would spot the gate halfway open and see a few dudes floating around inside, but juuuuust when it looked like things were ready to go, all signs of life would disappear for another 3 weeks straight. THEN... It happened. Yesterday THE GATE WAS COMPLETELY UP! I felt my heart skip a beat as hustled across the street to check things out, probably with an over eager expression of hope and hunger on my face. Two nice dudes were already busy making a drink for a girl in front of me, as I quickly began taking photos like a creeper and gawking at the pastries. The dudes were very patient and sweet with me as I professed my excitement at their opening and began asking about their beans (la colombe) and food (all baked on the premises in house). The espresso is well done and I picked up the cutest little matcha doughnut to go, which was flavourful and well priced for the size. Came to this coffee shop after reading some raves reviews. Maybe I had high expectation with how great the pastries this shop has to offer, but I was a bit let down. They had the same display window as HoneyBee pastry, but they are selling Asian bakery buns and cakes with a gourmet price tag. Yes! Finally got time to come visit Bread & Joe. They did not only serve coffee but also different kinds of teas, lattes and pastries/bread. I ordered the Thai iced tea, chai latte, cold brew and matcha latte. The cold brew and chai latte was so good, way better than overrated Starbucks. The cold brew wasn't watered down. It was strong but smooth. The chai latte had the perfect amount of sweetness and spices. The Thai iced teas were creamy and sweet. The matcha latte didn't have any sugar in it, but there's a condiment bar near the door. I didn't try the pastries but they had egg tarts!! It's not too noisy in here either so you can probably do your work. I would come back for the cold brew any day. read more
