Was looking for some nice bread to eat with our soups and ended up here. They have a nice selection of fresh breads baked daily. You can your bread sliced or unsliced. They even have some baked goodies like pumpkin or banana breads. Date of visit: April 23, 2024 I popped in here on my way home from work as I've been a bit addicted to their bread lately and the one closer to my house was a bit out of the way. I know they close at 6 and didn't want to be left with only rye bread to choose from! The store was a bit busy when I arrived just after 5 with a couple folks ahead of me and only one person working the counter. The organization of the store seems poor; she had to keep going back and forth from the counter to the racks off to the left. I suspect wait times would decrease if they analyzed the layout of the store and made some adjustments. The employee seemed over the back and forth as well, but she was working hard to fill orders and keep the line moving as best she could. I snagged a loaf of bread and a couple cookies though again it was hard to see what options were available and when I asked she neglected to list them all as there were the turtle cookies on the rack. Bottom line was that both the cookies and the bread was great! read more

Stopped in here quick for a gift. Someone I know LOVES their bread. It is a cute and open space with various sweets and breads available. The gal behind the counter was very helpful with suggestions and helping point me to a good gift. I definitely plan on going back soon to try some of this bread myself! If I'm going to buy bread, at least let it be tasty! This is why I have continued to frequent the Breadsmith. I enjoy most of their products, especially their rye loaves, their baguettes, and their rotation of seasonal specialties. The one thing I wish they did better was their challah. Every time I've tried it, it has been slightly dry. I wish I could say it was stellar because it's the closest location serving up weekly challah but, darn! Stopped in today to get my free loaf of daily bread for signing up for the rewards program and was told there were no points available or a free loaf on my card.. I then referred to the owners reply to my earlier yelp review. The phone number was the Breadsmith in Whitefish Bay and was told the manager was not there. I was offered to leave a message but said no I'll just add to my original yelp review. I am more than disappointed and I know this is only over a loaf of bread but it's really not very good Customer Service all around. I LOVE BREAD AND I LOVE THIS BREADSMITH. Ok maybe that was dramatic (it wasn't) they are the best. Located in the hard to the Wauwatosa village you can taste fresh bits while you peruse the bread options and enjoy whatever seasonal music they are playing. They offer dozens of flavors a day at very reasonable prices for being fresh bread. They offer a frequent stamp card that you can get stamped and earn a free loaf of bread. On certain days they even offer double stamps. Also right now if you bring your own bag you get an extra stamp is well, it's the little things. The staff is always willing to help and answer any questions as well as slicing the bread. My favorites are Pheasant bread, multigrain, sourdough, and the scones! I die for the pecan scones here. Everything a scone should be. Every time I walk in this little shop I tell myself I'm only going to come out with my little loaf of brioche...and then leave with an armful of other things that I immediately start snacking on during the drive home. You've been warned. They have a set of daily breads that they make as well as some specialty breads made throughout the week. Well, we wanted to browse the little village of Wauwatosa. So, we were surprised to see this bread store nearby. Like all Breadsmiths, there were plenty of samples to decide between different variety loaves of bread. Well, I didn't want to just stick with raisin walnut bread so got the cranberry walnut bread. Unfortunately, the cranberry walnut bread was not in whole wheat like the raisin walnut bread. However, the cranberry walnut bread in white bread was really good. It lasted a week and kept well over time plus had something different on ham sandwiches for us. read more

Love this basic bread store. There is no hype, it's simple, beautiful layout of the day's freshest breads against the wall. There is always a few samples and a decent selection of artisan jams. I haven't had anything I didn't like here, but in particular, we pick up challah bread here on Fridays. The bread is always fresh, if you ever pass them in the wee hours of the night, will see all the lights on and busy busy busy bakers kneading bread. There is a daily special, if you know you need something, call ahead, they will put what you want aside for you, which is awesome. Four stars for the sourdough bread alone. It is the only bread I can eat without getting sick. I just tried their jalapeño cheddar sourdough bread today. Fantastic. Not sure why it is more expensive at the bakery as opposed to Metcalfe's. Doesn't matter, it is worth it. The woman behind the counter was somewhat friendly. The staff can be hit or miss depending on when you go there. I noticed that the actual bakers are very nice. It is neat that you can watch them making bread from outside. They have a list of standard bread they offer daily. They have special breads Monday through Saturday in additional to the regular list. You can also place a custom order. read more

First off, I'm not the biggest bread-eater in the world, but I would probably go here for some unique/locally made bread if I had the need. The few times i've been here, the staff was ok. On my first visit, the whole ordering system was a bit foreign to me and I didn't realize the different between the types of bags you can request, and the staff didn't clarify which I should go with. The bread was really good though. I did have an issue with the parking lot attendant that sits and watches the parking lot at this strip mall. Apparently, I'm not allowed to A) shop at this mall's tenants, then B) leave my car in the lot and check out the other nearby stores. I understand the argument, but retail businesses thrive in groups, why hinder possible cross selling other stores clients? read more

Been coming here for years but not pleased when employees not wearing gloves and then handle bakery items with bare hands including when slicing bread. Yet, they won't take your cash/card from you but instead insist you leave it on the counter and back away to 6 feet (ala Seinfeld's soup nazi episode). They apparently don't see the hippocracy of then not wearing protective gloves for customer protection. read more

My wife had called to pick up some food for her coworkers on a Saturday. She was told by the woman on the phone that they had chocolate covered banana bread and that they would be expecting her to come in to pick it up. This was her first attempt at trying this restaurant. Once she arrived, she waited in a long line to find out that their credit card machine was down. My wife also noticed a very small note on the side of the register stating that the credit card machine was not working. The woman that my wife spoke to on the phone responded by stating that she should have mentioned this to her on the phone. Furthermore, my wife did not feel that this woman tried make up for it in any way. From a customer service standpoint, this should not fly. I'm sure the food is good but the way the customer is treated will either keep us coming back or prevent us from ever returning. We will never be going to this restaurant/bakery again. Tip for Breadsmith: teach your employees good customer service and basic commonsense. read more

Bread is ok, but they never had any Farmer's Wheat left. So, I asked them to set a loaf aside for me. I did this 3 times, and the bread was never there. After the third time, I told the server that there would not be a fourth attempt. He told me, "Get out of my (expletive deleted) store." Go to the one in Greenfield. They are very nice. The specials make their products much less expensive. read more
