O&H Danish Bakery has built its reputation on Kringles, and rightfully so. The bakery case, though, is worth your attention on its own. The Glazed Croissant Donut is the standout item for me. The Cinnamon Snails run a close second and are worth picking up if you have the restraint to not stop at one item. The coffee caught me off guard in the best way. A 20oz Caramel Vanilla Cappuccino with oat milk rang up at $5.29. That price point is notable, and it delivered. Service moves quickly and the staff is friendly. One thing that stood out on the way out was the recognition displayed on the exterior of the service counter for employee years of service. Almond Kringle: A Kringle is a large circular Danish pastry with flaky dough, covered in icing, & filled with fruit, nut, or other more unique flavors. After doing a little research, I've learned that sadly, Kringles are not widely spread throughout the U.S. Did you know Kringle is the official state pastry of my home, Wisconsin? It turns out that Racine, WI is actually the epicenter for Kringles. Racine's O&H Danish Bakery opened in 1949 and has been family owned for four generations. The almond kringle is one of their more traditional/basic flavors, but it is still impressively delicious. I was pleased with the amount of filling O&H crams into the pastry. It's got a nutty flavor that is so sweet, it almost seems fruity. Texturally, the filling has a creamy aspect to it, but it's also rather dense. The body of the kringle has hints of butter and like the filling, is thick and dense. Additionally, it has a flaky and pleasantly chewy texture. Lastly, the kringle is topped with a thick layer of icing. Usually O&H is pretty consistent, but as you can see from the pics, some portions of the kringle had a really thin amount of icing compared to others. Regardless, it was still another superb Kringle from O&H. Tucked away and almost hidden behind a gas station, home of the Wisconsin Kringle! They offer so much more than Kringles. They have donuts, cookies, cupcakes, coffee, and lunch. Everything is so good. I'm the happiest with their Kringle though. Cupcakes are just ok, coffee is and some of their donuts are superb, but not all. My friends love (LOVE) their lunch menu but I've never a chance to try personally. You can get a Kringle for $10 at Trader Joe's, while here, you pay about $2 more, but you do get to pick from a variety of flavors. Service is spotty - I've had mostly positive experiences, with a few grumpy cashiers, but not overly rude. The store in Racine seems to be generally more friendly and happy. read more

Listen. Don't walk. RUN. Run as fast as you can to get yourself a CRONUT! That's a croissant that's a donut. Itsssssss LIFE! I'm not a donut eater or a big fan. I actually am not a big pastry eater either. They're like meh for me; I need to be in the mood. But these CRONUTS!!! I'm always in the mood for a cronut. My biggest qualm is that these are so popular they sell out. My auntie always is giving me these from this bakery so I'm not missing out by any means. But when I went around late morning/early afternoon, they definitely didn't have any more. So that was a lesson to me to get there early. And hopefully a benefit for you now that you know to go early. I was both surprised and happy to see a drive-through! Although I didn't use it, I just went in. I didn't stick around for anything else but I've had their Kringle. Much like donuts, I need to be in the mood but the Kringle is really a delicious pastry; I just only enjoy specific flavors. Also a little tip/trick if you have lots of Cronuts you can't eat right away; I store mine in a glass Tupperware with some bread butt slices and they stay moist and gooey with the glaze! Out for a joyride recently, I unexpectedly came upon this O&H location. Being familiar with their Racine locations, I knew I was onto something good! And I would've been, if I'd been there hours earlier. As it was, they were sold out of most flavors of Kringle and had little left except the one that's a version of Cadbury Easter eggs, something I'm not into at all. In addition, items I saw listed on their website weren't available in the bakery, which was a big disappointment. That said, the staff was so incredibly helpful, accommodating, and friendly that it nearly made up for the lack. I took home a brownie that I found to be no better than something I could make in my own kitchen, and a package of angel cookies came with me as well. They would've been delicious if they hadn't been made with margarine. Such cookies deserve nothing less than pure butter!! All in all, the food was a bit disappointing, but the great service will call me back for another attempt at finding the deliciousness I expect from O&H. read more

If you like kringle, then O&H is not to be missed! These are by far my favorite kringles of all time (especially the turtle or chocolate pecan) and have a ton of flavors to choose, always fresh and ready to go! I love that they have a drive through but also open at 6am for those early work meetings. Earlier is better if you have your mind set on a specific flavor though because this place can get busy and some flavors do sell out but I'm not sure there are any kringles here that wouldn't be thoroughly enjoyed. What went well? Everything! If you're unfamiliar with O&H, just give them a try. Donuts, pastries, coffee cakes and danish are all made fresh and taste amazing. I've been here a few times in the past but only used the drive through to pick up baked goods. This time I stopped in prior to Christmas to pick up a danish. While they were busy with people picking up pre-orders, I had no issues finding the rack of danish and picking out what I needed. The line to checkout moved swiftly and took me right past the bakery case where, not unsurprisingly, I fell victim to the temptation of donuts. I picked out two and was on my way. It looked as if, under normal circumstances, there is a dining area to sit and enjoy purchased coffee and baked goods. There's also a drive through. Went in to get a special gift for a good friend,the almond cream coffee cake(pictured).The service was excellent and the selection was amazing. Had to try the cinnamon roll.This one was very different then ones like Cinnabon as it didn't have all the frosting, a plus for me, It was delicious.I am looking forward to stopping in again and trying some of the many other choices.They of course have the awesome selection of Kringle to choose from as well,so you can't go wrong. I'm always on the search for a good donut since Lakeside bakery closed. I think I've officially found a new spot. The outside of O&H is very assuming. When you walk in the lobby it is very spacious. We went at 7:30 on Saturday. There were only about 3 people in front of us so not very busy. The cashier was really nice and checked us out quickly. They had a nice selection and had breakfast and lunch specials so they don't just sell baked goods they have breakfast sandwich's as well. When we got home the donuts tasted just as good as they looked in the case. We'll definitely be back! read more

Best Kringle in town. Service is quick and they have a rewards program. If your in a rush, they have a drive thru too. They have a great selection of different flavored Kringles. The fruit ones are the best in my opinion, especially the raspberry. The filling tastes real, not like canned filling. I'll also get a sandwich occasionally and those are solid too. okay, here's the thing... I'm not here for kringle this time out; it's just me and a whole ringle o' kringle is a bit much. I mean, I totally could finish one or two of these with a large coffee but common decency and self respect say I really shouldn't indulge to that extent. instead I went with an open-top miniature sports-Kringle!! or, in english, a danish! and one for tomorrow and the day after as well... and since they are three separate pastries I can resist eating them all in one sitting (in theory) the trade off here is the danish aren't necessarily baked from scratch every day; they're made from high quality ingredients and will last for a couple days easy and more substantial than the packaged variety on convenience store shelves. cases are full of donuts, and cookies, and breads of various sizes to satisfy most every palate and coffee is available on request. be aware that drive up service is currently not available but the short walk in is totally worth it :-) read more

I've lost count of how many times I've come back to O&H after my first visit, even with it being 35+ minutes from home not counting what morning rush hour traffic adds. The Viking Power Breakfast sandwich is still one of my favorite breakfast sandwiches to get and there's always a special/seasonal donut or kringle worth stopping out for. I have been eating Kringles for about 10 years. A vendor I used to do business with sent 1 every year. Since I always looked forward to my annual O&H Kringle, when I started my own business, I decided to send them to my clients around the holidays. I order a Cheese Kringle for myself in October and loved it, so I wanted to try something else. I ordered their Brownies, which were 2 massive individually wrap brownies. I didn't love them and sent a note to O&H, not hate filled, just my thoughts. O&H reached back out and wanted to send me something else, they really want happy customers. In 2 days, I had 2 Kringles and they picked up all of the costs. There are other companies that make Kringles, but I will only support O&H, they are an amazing group of people. read more

Kudos to O&H staff who baked the rings for the Kransekage, a special occasion cake for Danes and packed them for travel to Michigan to celebrate a wedding of a Dane and an American. The mother of the groom ( a Dane) iced and assembled the rings into the cone shaped dessert. The response from the Danes was that the cake was SOOO GOOD, met all of their expectations, and created interest in Danish traditions. I have ordered Kringles as gifts and just recently ordered the eclairs for my brother! He was to have received them 9:45-11:45 am on this past Thursday. Then delivery time changed to 3:45 - 6:45pm delivery. I found out that those eclairs had been put on the UPS truck at 9am that morning. These were being delivered to San Antonio, Tx and you know how hot is it there right! Well, I was ready to be angry cause UPS kept something perishable on their truck since 9am but I was nicely surprised. My brother called to say they were delivered at 6:24 pm and there was still ice in the pkg and the eclairs were still a bit frozen! On the list of topics for last week's random banter with my brother was such burning questions as: when was the last time we encountered such an opinion divergent food as the kringle? What flavor is the best? Why does my 97th percentile in weight toddler who eats everything reject every flavor of kringle, except that one time she did decide to inhale the mocha one? If my toddlers love rainbow sprinkles, and a birthday cake kringle is decorated with rainbow sprinkles, why don't said toddlers care to take a bite of said kringle? Though I haven't personally been here, I've been fortunate enough to taste several kringles over the past few months, including red velvet, peppermint, almond, birthday cake (raspberry jam filled), and mocha. By far the best IMHO was the almond, reminiscent of a macaroon and a lil too much almond extract. The red velvet and mocha just tasted like chocolate pudding. I did like the fruit and pastry combo that the birthday cake offered. Kringles also freeze very well, so don't worry, you won't have to pig out and finish a 83,410 calorie kringle all by yourself within a couple days' time. However, let it be noted that the Seven Sisters "kringle pie" concoction is my #1! It's like pull apart cinnamon roll monkey bread in a round pie tart with frosting and raisins. If soft, sweet dough + chewy raisins + (more) sweet frosting isn't a winning combo, I don't know what is! I would find it hard to turn this down! read more

On the way back home from Milwaukee, we dropped in on this O&H bakery for a loaf of bread, and why not, another kringle.  This bakery is convenient in that it is the closest O&H right off of I-94 (about a mile to the west) but is relatively plainish on the interior compared to their showcase Washington Ave. location.  It is also actually and interestingly set up as a drive-thru business.  Their storefront is sort of hidden behind a BP gas station.  They do have 6 small booths available for dining in though.  There is a full menu board available for the drive-thru customers.  We shopped inside and managed to nab the last almond kringle and last loaf of white bread on a Saturday mid afternoon.  We're getting ourselves pretty familiar with the O&H Bakery franchise these days, and we do love those kringles! read more

I received a giant Kringle (two in a box) and other boxes of various pastries as a xmas gift. If you want the obesity and diabetes of middle America thats what you get. Its truly disgusting. All tastes the same like artificial sugar and dough. Nobody would eat this in Denmark because American food is not permitted --- its so processed and disgusting that it endangers the health of human beings. Feeding this to people is abusive. I stopped in to check out the Kringle bakery. I have had an O & H Kringle's in the past but I've never visited one of their bakeries. So I was super excited! I mean seriously who in Wisconsin doesn't love an excellent Kringle! This one is located right on S. 27th St. It's super cute and it even has a drive-through which is amazing. They have a decent size menu where you could get breakfast or lunch sandwiches. They have other bakery besides Kringle's like donuts and cookies. I was just super excited to pick up a bunch of Kringle's so I could take some to work. They were sampling their red white and blue a Kringle which is the Kringle of the month for the Fourth of July. Along with their key lime pie cringle. OMG they were fantastic! So I decided to get one of the red white and blue Kringle along with a Wisconsin Kringle. The Wisconsin Kringle has cherries, cranberries and cream cheese inside. And the red white and blue Kringle has cherries, blueberries and cream cheese inside. Bottom line: don't come near closing if you want your pick of kringle. I stopped in with my parents on our way to Oak Creek on a Saturday around 3:30 in the afternoon. There were maybe 20 or so kringles left in about five varieties. My childhood go-tos weren't there, so I chose the chocolate pecan, figuring it would be pretty close to turtle. Almond macaroon piqued my interest, but I didn't take the gamble on the spot (after looking it up later, it sounds delicious and I'll definitely give it a try). My boyfriend isn't a kringle lover (he didn't grow up in southeastern Wisconsin and doesn't have much of a sweet tooth anyway, the poor thing), but he does have a soft spot for chocolate caramel. There was a giant brownie in the bakery case with a thick layer of caramel peeking out, so I got that as well. The chocolate pecan kringle was tasty, though I do prefer its caramel-y turtle cousin. The brownie was a hit for my boyfriend, which is high praise. The bakery isn't too far off the highway and the folks working the counter were friendly. There are some tables if you want to sit down to enjoy your treats. I believe there's also a drive-thru if you know what you want and are on the go. Danish layer cakes are available in the cold case near the door. For a while the quality had slipped, but my parents say they're back to their old standard. If you've never had a kringle or a Danish layer cake, O&H is definitely worth a stop! read more

Enjoyable breakfast to go while we were in the area. They were very pleasant inside the store and we didn't detect the "Karen" attitudes they've been accused of in some other reviews. A really enjoyable pecan kringle was probably our favorite! The lemon was so over-sugared that even a sweet addict like me had to take a step back. We also tried a really nice cherry chocolate hot chocolate. They were offering it as a coffee drink, but we don't drink coffee. Wifey asked for it in a hot chocolate and they accommodated! However, we should have asked to adjust for the extra chocolate syrup because BAM! Still really tasty to share and we appreciate they were using milk and not water with the hot chocolate. Excellent bakery and breakfast place. They have three delicious breakfast sandwiches, good hot coffee and delicious pastries like kringle and doughnuts. Put your order in at the counter then when the food is ready the kitchen calls you to pick it up. Their baked goods range from good to outstanding. Not very far west of I-94, get off on Ryan. Just north of the hospital complex it's the best choice to eat breakfast or lunch in the area. I read somewhere that the Vikings took cats with them when they sailed off to pillage and burn.
