Did not disappoint on quality, quantify and the price is worth it as you leave the restaurant full and satisfied. And if you don't want to go home empty you can even take a big plastic container home of your favorite soup. The restaurant is as busy outside as it is inside. Me and my wife came here for our weekend lunch. This place is located in the same strip mall as Brooklyn cafe. Here either you can order a la carte, or you can order from their lunch combinations for example: 1) sandwich side and soup combo, 2) 1 entree 2 sides 3) 3 sides etc. My wife opted for sandwich side and soup combination, where as I opted for 3 sides option. You can add extra meats to your meal (that day they had grilled chicken breast and salmon). I opted for half chicken breast. They have different types of green salads, black rice salad quinoa salad etc. They also have different types of pasta. They have 3-4 different types of panini. Paninis looked really good., The food here looked very healthy. Tasted also very good. Here you go to the counter, order your food, pay the bill, wait for few minutes to get your food and take seat of your choice. My recent lunch at Breadwinner was a pleasant little surprise. My Saturday plans fell through so I ended up going out for a last minute lunch one of my girlfriends. We hadn't seen each other in while so we were looking to catch up. Breadwinner is located in Sandy Springs in the same shopping center as Brooklyn Cafe and Blue Grotto. I had never heard of Breadwinner previously so when my friend texted me some options, I decided to go with this one. We showed up around 1:00 for a late lunch. I didn't have a chance to check out the menu before the meal so I wasn't quite sure what to expect. You order at the front counter when you get there. They have about 7 or 8 different pre-made half sandwiches out on platters for you to choose. There is a $10 special where they have various sandwich combos. I can't remember all of them, but I got the half sandwich and two sides option. I picked the caprese sandwich with pasta salad and healthy slaw. The caprese sandwich consisted of mozzarella, tomato, and pesto sauce. You can eat the sandwich as is (cold) or they'll heat it up in the panini machine for you. I requested the hot option. Gooey cheese. Hello?!? The sandwich was really good. The pasta salad contained artichoke hearts. I was extremely curious about the healthy slaw. I wasn't sure whether it would be any good or not. The slaw was dressed in some type of vinaigrette. Super tasty. Hopefully it's healthy since they are calling it that. I didn't get to check out their famous sweet breads. We had some Breadwinner sweet breads sent to our office as a gift and they were amazingly delicious. If it wasn't for the card that was included with the breads, I wouldn't have known they came from Breadwinner. A local business, Breadwinner specializes in gourmet sweet breads and has been featured by The Food Network, the Today Show, and Good Morning America. Their sweet breads resemble pound cakes in both size and appearance. We had two 2-pound loaves sent to our office. All of Breadwinner's breads have interesting names. The ones we tried were: 1. Frankly, My Dear, I Don't Give a Cran - Cranberry orange bread 2. Better Than a Bubble Bath - Mocha chocolate chip bread Both were moist and incredibly rich and flavorful. I was impressed. I'm not a big fan of chocolate, but I couldn't get enough of the mocha chocolate chip bread. This bread contained chocolate, coffee, and toffee. The chocolate chips were delectable and every bite of the cake was enjoyable. The cranberry orange bread had a citrusy blend of flavors. The bread itself had a distinct orange taste to it and was infused with fresh and ripe cranberries. It had a good balance of sweet and tart. Both of these breads were pretty awesome. "NO SOUP FOR YOU!" -- Seinfeld Season 7, Episode 6 I love soup and salad for lunch - especially when I am crazy busy and have no time to eat. After many years and hearing how great Breadwinner is, and it being 2 miles from my house, I finally ventured in to grab some lunch to bring home. I walked in and was overwhelmed with the options - all the sandwiches and salads were pre-made, so it allowed for quick ordering and serving - no wait. They have posted a $10 lunch special. 1/2 sandwich, salad and soup (or 1/2 sandwich 2 salads, or 3 salads, or......) Great deal and it meant I could pick a couple of things to try. I opted for the Cuban - I really wanted a warm sandwich, so the woman popped it onto the panini press for me while she dished up my pint of Tomato Bisque (both gluten free and vegetarian, apparently) and I walked down the line to pick out a salad. There were a few options and I saw the orzo and just went with it. It looked good enough and I knew I needed to decide or I might be there all day. They certainly give you healthy portions - especially for the $10 price tag. It was a ton of orzo - of which I only ate half. I will say that the sandwich I chose was on the smaller side, but it was certainly tasty. Not a traditional cuban really, but delicious nonetheless. The orzo was a bit bland. It needed a hint of salt since it was a pasta dish, but it wasn't terrible. But odds are I won't order it again since it was empty carbs considering it's lack of flavor and nothing really going on. However, the winner of the day was the soup! I could have eaten a quart of it and would not have been ashamed. Full of tomato flavor and how that had no dairy - I seriously question. Rich and creamy, so packed with yum and not acidic. I'll go back just for that. Glad to know this is so close and I will be going back again and again. Just met this man in Phx and I'm committed to eating in Atlanta. Good people good food

I am kinda sad because everything looked so delicious, but I can only go by what I ordered. I have a sneaking suspicion that the other plates might be better but I am not sure I'll ever know. They had a myriad of delicious looking sandwiches and deli sides all visible through a glass deli case. I ordered something called "Grandma's brisket". It was the special that day. I drooled as I watched the young person at the counter scoop the brisket out of a crock pot thingy. It certainly looked and smelled delicious. For my side, an order of cabbage salad,. Well, the brisket was so tough and burnt and overcooked, it hurt my teeth. It was like shredded plastic. It was inedible. Also, the flavors of the sauce were very bland. The only slightly redeeming item was the cabbage salad which was merely chopped cabbage with some vinegar. The onion roll that everything was on however, was soooooooo good. I guess bread really is their forte. I just ended up scraping off the brisket and just eating the bread. There aren't really servers as you order at the counter, but the people there were pretty nice. All in all I was unenthused and I am not sure I would go back..the brisket really made me pouty, especially for the price. read more

Wanting something nicer than scavenging the leftovers in the fridge, but craving something light on account of the summer heat, and needing to be take-out to accommodate the little one, I used the BB Yelp app to find this place. At noon on a Saturday, I left J and C in the car, and headed in to pick out two $10 lunch specials. For me, I picked the southwestern chicken salad half sandwich, the gazpacho soup, and the blue beet salad. For J, I got the California wrap, the grilled veggie salad, and the vichyssoise. The service was friendly, fast, and efficient. These ladies really kept the line moving. I was in and out in less than 10 minutes, and that was with 3 people in front of me. I was most impressed by the soups and salads. My gazpacho had great zing and texture - just enough to be soup instead of salsa with a nice little kick! My blue beet salad (with candied walnuts, sliced beets, and blue cheese) was very flavorful, though a little heavy on the dressing. My southwestern chicken salad was good enough, but being dry, was the least impressive of my items. Based on the bites I got of J's lunch (and yes, of course, I also let him try mine), the vichyssoise was my favorite - so much potato and leek flavor! The grilled vegetable salad was a small portion (in a pre-packaged cup for the to-go crowd), but really tasted grilled (not always the case). His California wrap was somewhat flavorless to me, but I don't like turkey, and the combination of the flour wrap with the avocado meant a ball of gumminess in my mouth. Great little shop! Loved this place; I can't say enough about it. Excellent service, it felt like we were visiting someone's home for lunch. Atmosphere is a smaller version of Panera, only homey-er. I got the lunch special which came with portions of salad (had beets, and I usually hate beets, but it was excellent!), soup (got the homemade chicken soup and OMG, it was to die for) and a sandwich (corned beef was YUM!) I had to update my review to say how much I love this place. The food is awesome and a great value. I have started buying the prepackaged items to take home with me since they are a bit out of my way. I plan to try the fresh backed breads next because they come in a lot of flavors. But.. they can only seat so many without running into a full house situation. Service - You'll have to get in line and the order. A slow method. Food: I really loved their GF Brunswick Stew. It was delicious. It also felt light, which I liked. I hate when stew is so heavy and after you eat it, you kind of want to hurl. I would come back for this. Just added some some hot sauce to make it a little spicier. Caesar Salad - The lettuce wasn't fresh and tasted okay. Maybe because the lettuce wasn't dark lettuce I kind of didn't like it... Eh. Just wasn't what I preferred Chicken Parm Sandwich - I got the wrong sandwich. Overall taste was meh. Was bland. I honestly think I ordered the wrong thing. TLDR: If you're looking for a way better and local version of Panera for sandwiches, soups, salads, and sweet bread, go here. Upon looking for a place for some lunch and a place to read, Breadwinner looked the most appealing out of the myriad of options available in Sandy Springs. I came here on a late Saturday morning and a really great experience coming here for an early lunch. Breadwinner is in a moderately large plaza with other restaurants and businesses, but there is plenty of parking here if you end up driving here. You can see the patio from outside and there's a good amount of outdoor seating available. When you go inside, you can see many of their menu offerings on display available to eat there or bring to go. The best option for lunch in my option is just going with the lunch special which gives a combination of three different food items. I ended up going with a half sandwich, half salad, and cup of soup. For just under eleven bucks, it's such a good deal considering the amount of food you get is really generous. The most popular sandwich according to the staff is the chicken pesto panini and for good reason. The chicken is well cooked, the pesto is just right, and even the half sandwich is a lot of food. They do pre make the sandwiches, so they'll press it for you prior to serving. The kale salad and the turkey chili were both very good and I probably would get them both again. It's not your typical breakfast, but the sweet breads are apparently really good too. I highly recommend the mocha chocolate chip bread. It was very moist and just the right amount of sweetness. I had it as a dessert after lunch and would definitely order it again. Best of all, the service here is really great and the staff are all very friendly. As a fan of the lunch special, I love the ability to pick and choose and build my lunch of a large menu of options. The food is delicious, the salads and soups sometimes rotate, and none are bad. Now, the grilled pimento cheese, I can't get it hot enough. even if I stuff it in my face first, its never hot enough for the cheese to be properly melty and not cold in the middle. Now the soup can scald your tongue off. But the sandwich, not so much. Really if thats my only complaint. I saw this restaurant advertised on "Atlanta Eats" and was excited about finding what appeared to be a real bakery here in Atlanta, so a few weeks ago, I braved the Sandy Springs traffic and stopped there for lunch. People in line seemed all pumped about the food, although most appeared to be ordering soup and salad (note the absence of baked goods consumption). Since none of the sandwich offerings on "real" bread appealed to me, I ordered a tilapia wrap, which was absolutely tasteless. I did not enjoy my meal, nor did I finish it. With a glass of iced tea, my bill was over $15. The baked goods were pricey: prebaked loaves of bread looked appetizing, but a small loaf was priced at $16. The place appears to have its regulars, and I'm sure they enjoy it, but I'll take a pass. Boo on "Atlanta Eats" for this one. read more

I feel like a huge dummy for just today setting foot in Breadwinner Cafe for the first time in my life. Especially for being a huge soup lover, 1/2+1/2 meal appreciator (in this case, 1/2+1/2+1/2 - too big for thirds), and local business supporter. I mean talk about GEMS. So first of all, what a great sized place. It's not the first thing I noticed, but definitely a happy detail.. Inside and outside seating available, and although I walked in at about 1:45pm, way after lunchtime, I feel like I could walk in and maybe have half a chance at finding SOMEplace to sit at peak time. I'm totally just guessing, but I can't wait to find out :) You order at the counter, and you can see all the options right there in front of you. MANY prepared sandwiches and salads. The soups are off to the side, and I think there were about 5 to choose from. So, pick any combo of soup-salad-sammie for just about $10, and these portions are VERY generous! I went with the Tomato Basil Bisque as I've heard great things. I also chose two salads, only because I'm trying to eat a little healthier these days. I chose the kale salad (with cranberries, slaw, and some thin, barely-there dressing to keep it moist) and the quinoa salad (which I think had feta - interesting - and definitely grape tomatoes - very juicy, and delish.) They have bottled drinks, fountain drinks and a help-yourself water station. Every table has a basket of straws and napkins, and salt and pepper shakers. Don't forget to grab your silverware at the counter. This particular day, the music was just to my liking. I thought to myself, Breadwinner must have spied my personal music playlists from the early 2000s, because they were playing a ton of goodies from that time in my life. I really enjoyed my meal. If I were to go back and change one thing, I would have made 1/3 of my choices something a little less dry. It's nothing against the actual salads, but I just happened to pick the less moist (sorry) options of the bunch. I had to drink a lot of water. Again, the portions were large, so I took some of both salads home. The soup was awesome but not enough left to warrant a to-go box. I sat for a while, comfortably working at a table by the window. It was well lit and I didn't feel weird for sitting longer, which is always nice. There are some places you go, and you start to get the creeps or feel nervous after a while like you're being watched for hanging out. Weirdos. Anyway, not here. They also have a big refrigerated section of to-go soups, salads, dips, drinks, etc, and also a section of dry goods like homemade granola, nuts, cookies, fruit loops treats, of course bread, and more. On my way out, I grabbed a big thing of Brunswick stew, (that I've yet to try) a large brownie (yummy, with chocolate chips inside), and some rosemary cashews (Say WHAT! These are good!!) I stopped in to pick up some goodies for dinner and was really pleased with what I found at Breadwinner. It was way too hot to cook so some sandwiches and gazpacho seemed like a good choice, and I was right to choose Breadwinner to provide the goods. They've got a decent selection of soups waiting in the cooler, ready to go, and they're all marked with whether or not they're vegan and/or gluten free. Easy peasy. The sandwiches are all sliced and out on display as well, which was a smidge bit disconcerting given the hour of the day. Had they been sitting out since noon? I hope not. Especially for the pimento cheese. I chose the caprese, and even though I didn't eat it until several hours later, it was quite good and very flavorful. The bread was definitely the highlight: super soft and fluffy. I also got some broccoli salad that was very good, if a little heavy on the sauce. Smallish shopping center parking lot gets slammed for the lunch rush, so consider car pooling. Or, like the firemen from down the block, walk. Always a good sign when firemen or cops are waiting in line at a joint. Place does a simple lunch combo -- salad, soup, half-sammich (or 2 salads, a soup, etc.) -- for $10. When you consider that most everything is made on site (including the breads), that is a great deal. And explains why the place gets covered up at noon on weekdays. All the vegan soup/salad options make it popular with that demo -- but be aware that sammich options might be limited to a caprese (Fresh mozzarella, basil and olive oil puree, and Roma tomatoes on a Parmesan cibatta bread) or a pimento cheese. The latter in particular is well-praised, but it would be nice to have, say, a grilled portabello option from time to time too. As for carnivore sammiches, both the NY corned beef on rye and the tuna salad (Chunk light albacore tuna with celery, hard-boiled egg, Roma tomatoes, a touch of mayo, and Muenster cheese on multigrain bread) are very nicely turned out, Grade A sammiches. The corned beef demands toasting while you can go either way with the tuna, the egg and muenster providing a a big, rich backbone that is not all goopy mayo. Summer soups mean gazpacho, right? And here we had not one, but two forms -- red and green. The latter was made from tomatillos, green peppers, and a ton of cukes. Both had some jalapeno for some heat, but not too much. Nice and refreshing and filling, although I might've wanted just a little extra virgin olive oil drizzled on to really kick it off. Oh, yeah. Salads. The Beet & Blue (Mixed greens, dried cranberries, candied walnuts, julienned beets, crumbled blue cheese, and raspberry vinaigrette) was my fave, but the Kale (Raw kale, cabbage, pumpkin seeds, carrots, craisins, and red onion tossed in a lemon yogurt dressing) is different and tremendously filling. Also the Black Rice Salad is sorta a starchy, but not creamy salad option that you won't find too many places. Biggest down side? Very speedy service! Fresh food and drinks. So delicious. The menu has something for everyone on there. Pesto chicken sandwich, Cuban and the pimento grilled cheese are for sure my favorite. Go here, you won't regret it! read more

This is a solid 3.5 stars. Breadwinner Cafe has a fantastic daily selection of yummy soups, salads and sandwiches. They do a lot of business at lunch time and it gets crazy busy. It seems to be a very popular lunch spot in this crowded shopping center. You can pick 3 items for $10.99. I have tried to get just two items in the past (all I wanted) and it still worked out to $9 and some change after tax. You're almost forced to get the 3rd to feel better about what you're paying. Given that, I find their pricing to be a bit too high for 1-2 items. At lunch. Food is good but not that great. We're still talking soups, salads and sandwiches here. But, clearly, it's working for them. The soccer moms and pilates queens are holding this place down! I do enjoy their kale salad, tuna sammich and quite a few of their soups. Sweet breads are decent. I just think you'll find a better bang for your buck elsewhere in the area. read more
