Well, with all the hype and articles I read i went there today for lunch. I ordered the teriyaki chicken plate with rice and mac..$22.00 .it was horrible! The chicken was dry and difficult to chew, the mac was bland. The environment was questionable. Had to try this new restaurant as Kealanis closed years ago. Cool vibe inside and not too crowded. We had the teriyaki chicken and the Kailua pork plate and both were delicious. We were there for dinner. The wait staff was very friendly and efficient. We ordered cheeseburgers. One came with Mac salad and one with chips. There was nothing on the burgers. No lettuce, or tomato or any kind of condiments. We had to ask for mustard and ketchup and were given packets from the back. So, for 2 burgers, one side each and one ice tea it was $42.00. I had lunch today around 1:15 and having lived in Maui several years and loving Hawaiian plate lunches, I've really been looking forward to it. I had a plate lunch with teriyaki chicken. Lunch rush seemed over and so service was nice, friendly and quick. However, the chicken was barely warm, didn't seem freshly cooked, and slightly slimy (which can be kind of scary), the Kimchee and macaroni were kind of tepid and even soupy, but at least the white rice was very warm. The portions were good sized but sadly I barely ate anything out of concern for food safety. I was very disappointed as I had waited several months before trying the place since initial opening reviews were poor and I always give new places the benefit of the doubt and plenty of time to sort things out before trying them. I'm not sure there is any excuse any longer for this lack of quality control.... I'm bummed. read more

Robert, Layla, Heather and William (previous reviewers) obviously don't know the surf community or the history of Breakers. They certainly aren't empathetic or know the growing pains of a new restaurant and what it takes to get it off the ground. My husband Larry and I have been waiting for Breakers to open since we heard it was happening. We got the chance to visit today. We had a wonderful time! Anita and Taylor behind the bar were lovely and hospitable. They also made amazing drinks. Benji came out and spoke to everyone, even though he was hustling in the kitchen cooking our food. We made several sets of new friends who were just there to vibe and not be food critics. The food was great even though the kitchen had to close for 30 to restock. This is super understandable as they've just opened and are trying to gauge supply and demand. We're all about no waste in California, right? This place is great. If you want perfection, then you should probably wait a few months. If you are chill and want to have a good time then come through. The drinks were amazing and the food was solid. If you folks want new cutlery or other accoutrements then maybe man/woman up and speak up in person. Let's try to uplift this new spot and not tear it down before it has a chance to thrive. I wish I could write a better review. I will be succinct. The food was expensive based on quality. It was cold and the Hawaiian coleslaw's sauce was so abundant it ran over the flavor of the other items on the plate. The service was slow even though we placed our order.(about 20+minutes). Our chair cushions were torn and no one ever bused our table from the previous guests. We pushed them aside. The "ambiance" was not improved by a barking dog or seeing a dog sitting in a booth being fed by its owner. Went in for lunch and they have the right vibe going, but unfortunately the food misses the mark. The kahlua pork was very salty. The Mac salad is very bland; needs some green onion, more vinegar, something! The coleslaw tasted decent although no signs of pineapple in mine and needs to be served in a separate bowl or drained with a slotted spoon when served as it made the whole plate coleslaw soup. My husband said his shirt ribs were very tough. The chalkboard menu was in front of the counter right where people were standing to order, making it difficult to see. First we arrived and didn't realize you order at counter when the young girl finally seen us looking lost she said "Are you ready to order"? Expanded it was our first time in she didn't seem to care No greeting or welcome! We've been waiting patiently for this place to open, so I was happy to meet friends for dinner there recently. First the positives: the vibe is great, indoor and outdoor options for families of all ages and sizes. The ahi in my plate lunch (but ordered for dinner?) was well cooked, although I wish I knew it would come absolutely smothered in sauces. Food came out so quickly some of us weren't back at the table after having to order drinks at the bar separately. Now the things that I hope will get improved: Awkward counter ordering system including a strange location directly in front of the main door, conflicting information was given depending on who was taking your order (overheard while in line), menu is not at all clear, small cluttered counter made almost everyone in our party not realize they were supposed to pick up their flatware at time of ordering. It just seemed like there are some kinks to work out, I certainly hope they do! Regarding the food: pretty authentic casual Hawaiian food, although I have tasted MUCH better, not a lot of flavor, but mac salad and white rice aren't known for that. I ordered their kimchi as one of my sides and I don't know exactly what that was (some large slices of pickled onion and actual pickles!), but it didn't resemble any kimchi I have ever had. I may give it another try, but with the excellent Sushi Lounge in the same parking lot I will be hard-pressed to spend the same money for their food. read more

Although there is a large outdoor patio for people with dogs the service employees allowed people with extremely large dogs to sit themselves inside the restaurant where the food was being prepared and served with no regard to other patrons. I'm a dog lover. I own several, and when I take them to eat with me I always make sure I eat in the dog friendly area. I'm acutely aware of why there are health laws limiting where animals may be in a food serving establishment. Dogs have germs on their feet that can effect people with immune system issues along with with auto-immune people. That's why there are health laws, to keep people safe. Think I'm being a bitch? My husband died from an immune failure..I don't take this lightly. Dogs are our pets, people are our lives. I'll never return to this establishment and will recommend to our town council to review their health permits. read more
