Went for lunch and had breakfast instead. Biscuits and gravy with egg was very good. This is a place you wouldn't give a second look at but the amount of cars in the lot should tell you it must be good. It is!!! Drinks were kept full, coffee was good. Service was good and they were fairly busy. The manager was waiting tables as well. She cares about quality of food and the service. She's been in the business 10 years. It's just off I-380 and is easy access to Glass Road or 42nd street exits. We enjoyed the atmosphere and will return. read more

We had to wait a very long time. Yes, only one server was working. But there was no seating available, as those that were there never wanted to leave, it's like they had nothing else to do in their lives, so they sat and talked. I get the old geezers that were at a table, but not the rest, so I assume they are on some government payola. So we waited about 45 minutes, and once seated, the busy server got to us in about 5 minutes, and we ordered. That came in 10 or so minutes. Server did keep our coffee cups filled. I like that the omelet and potatoes were not salted, sure they are bland that way, but for people that are trying to keep their daily salt intake low, you don't want a short order cook to make things salty. This is Iowa food, where the two flavors are always served, bland, and blander, don't expect otherwise. The table had a basket of half&half creamer, as well assortment of jams for the bread. I don't know anything about pork not being served, as I had a steak and mushroom omelet, and that was good. Wife had a greek omelet, and she liked it. Serving size is large, and I ate too much. I didn't think the price was excessive, at $10 for an omelet with hash or american style potato, along with a toast of choice, and for a $1.5 more, you could substitute an english muffin, half waffle, french toast, or cinnamon roll. But they need to hire at least two more servers, and open the south side area. While we were waiting, 2 other couples came and went, and more during our service. They are driving customers away, and this become permanent. So maybe the people that were there, stayed longer then they should to kill the place. read more

We decided to try this place out after seeing it on fb. My husband and I both had the Classic Breakfast with ham. I had hash browns and he had Barn Potatoes. They were both good. We only got one slice of toast each (cut in half to make 2 pieces). As we were getting ready to order a side of toast so we would each have 2 slices, the server explained that they throw out so much bread from finished meals that they just start with one slice now and they will bring the other slice free if it's requested. I wonder how many people quietly deal with less than they expected and never know they could have had the full amount...anyway, moving on--the ham was nice and thick/plump, but it had a strange taste. Not sure what it was, but it tasted like a hint of sausage-like flavor. Maybe it was really processed or something. The coffee was fine. They do have plenty of half & half as well as French vanilla already on the table. We appreciate that and also the real butter, which is spreadable instead of rock hard like some places. The sourdough toast was also good. It came on our plates without any butter or margarine even though we didn't ask for it to be dry. That's ok with us since the butter could be spread easily enough to not tear it up, but it would have been nicer if it was warm when we got it. I know it's probably hard to time everything to be perfect, so it wasn't a big issue or anything, just an observation. The additional toast was warm when it arrived. Another thing that stood out to us right away was the fresh squeezed orange juice machine. Nice idea, but a little unappealing with the leftover parts of the oranges still showing through the window. It's too bad it isn't a self-cleaning matching like the smoothie makers in gas stations. Maybe that machine would be better to not be on display since it shows the scraps so noticeably. Last observation is that we couldn't help but notice the really loud music being played in the kitchen area. It was so loud with super thumpy beats that it could not be ignored,, and every time someone went through the door, it blasted even louder and clearer. I don't mind people listening to music while they work, but this came though as unprofessional for a nice, new restaurant trying to form good impressions to attract business. I don't want to pick this place apart as they do try and I'm sure they care. I just don't recommend the ham. We might come back and try something else another time. read more

Tried this out this morning. Won't make that mistake again. SMALL CUP OF COFFEE-$3.00. My breakfast was akin to a kid's meal size. And my eggs came with one strip of bacon cut in HALF! Toast is an extra $2.00. Casey's biscuits and gravy are a much better deal and far superior taste. Good service for extremely mediocre expensive simple breakfast. read more

We went to the Breakfast Barn for breakfast and it was not a great experience. We ordered 2 coffees and when they finally came one had the paper from a sugar packet floating in it, yuck. They apologized and brought a fresh coffee but that started the entire experience off on the wrong foot. When we got our food my husbands hashbrowns were burnt to a crisp, the sausage was overcooked and tiny and the $10 breakfast he ordered only came with one slice of toast. My daughter and I ordered similar breakfasts and they got the potatoes wrong, I got the house potatoes and she got my hashbrowns. The food was lukewarm and took over half and hour to be served. There were only 4 of us so we thought that was extreme considering they weren't super busy. My advise - go somewhere else!! read more

Lots of people might not notice this small business unless they are looking for something new. I know I sure didn't. So when my family went to try this place I didn't even notice it was here. They have great food at a great price. I got the barn griddle with French toast, eggs, and bacon. It might not look or sound as much or like it would fill you up but it sure will. The staff here were so nice and respectful. So if your looking for a nice place to eat, try this place. read more

Took my family here for breakfast and it was outstanding. Yes we had to wait a bit, but they were super busy. It was well worth the wait though as we had fresh squeezed orange juice and delicious food. I have recommended this establishment to others who have been met with the same service we had.
