I totally recommend! I was craving for some London Fog and bagels. Upon arrival, we noticed it was a small cafe with few seats. However, it was cozy and the staff members were super nice. We ordered the London Fog, Dirty Chai, Lavender Latte and Raspberry Latte, Lox everything bagel and banana Nutella crepe. Service was quick and we enjoyed every drink! The drinks were flavorful and lightly sweetened. You have the option to add more sugar to your drink with the packets of sugar by the door. It was perfect for the cold and rainy day. They put a generous amount of smoked salmon in the bagel with avocado. We enjoyed this a lot. The crepe was lovely. It was light and warm. The banana was fresh and the Nutella was not too sweet. It went very well with our drinks. They were super busy but service was quick! Highly recommend this place! read more

This is an amazing little family run coffee shop (the friendly Korean woman who runs it is mainly there by herself, so they close at 4). It is very cozy inside with a few tables, and the coffee is pretty good. Not amazingly good (4 stars on coffee alone, much better than Starbucks or the mediocre coffee in the early Westin Bayshore where I was staying), but must give it 5 stars for the overall experience. In addition to the good espresso coffee drinks they have a good menu of soup, sandwiches and crepes in addition to pastries. Everything I saw come out of the kitchen the two times I stopped I looked very good. Even when busy the proprietor comes around the counter to take your drink to the table. The other cool thing is that they have a liquor license so they also have beer and spirits. Even though I never took advantage of that, it somehow enhances the ambiance, knowing that I could stop by later for a drink, and makes it look much more like a coffee bar in Madrid. Finally, if you haven't picked up the name, the name is a play on the show Breaking Bad, and the woman running the place might just be the biggest Alan Cranston fan in Vancouver. OK Breaking Bean I hate to do this to you because when I'm in Coal Harbour I make sure to visit! But with that having been said, there have been several times when they are closed! So disappointing! I've even brought visitors to try, and we were greeted by the dreaded "Closed" sign. Good know they are closed on Mondays and every holiday of course, but recently, when I made sure to make the travels when they were open, was met by "Closed due to Mental Health Day" sign. UGH!!! Had a large vanilla latte here. I think they just add more milk and there is no additional espresso compared to a small/ medium as I could barely taste any coffee. It was 7.65! Which is a lot. More than Starbucks, 49th parallel etc. I also found the woman working there very rude. I asked her the price on medium vs large she said it was on the menu, but the menu didn't specify syrups and flavours . I decided and told her large and was counting out my money, and she left to work on another order for about 5 minutes and when she returned barked medium or large at me. She seemed very agitated and it made me feel unwelcome. If the coffee had been good I would have gone back despite the interaction but sadly there are dozens of better spots within walking distance. read more

I've been here many times, and I feel the food is not consistent. I got my fav smoked salmon omelette today, but it smelled really off, and when I tasted it, it was way too fishy. Seems like their salmon was not fresh. My partner ended up eating it. The pastries are mostly so-so. Two omelettes and a drip coffee come up to around $45. Normally, I'm not a lox person, but when you're in the Pacific Northwest, you have to eat the salmon, I'm pretty sure it's a law. If it's not, it's definitely a good dang idea. I ordered after my friend, started with my London fog... And then before I could even tell her what I want... She asked me "salmon avocado bagel?" I don't know if I look like somebody else that frequents that place, or if that is just their number one item... But it was, like she was reading my mind! Heck, yes! I crowed! She suggested the everything bagel, and every part of this breakfast was FANtastic. I had about 3 bites of my bagel left, and I turned around to ask for something to wrap it in, and AGAIN reading my mind, she asked "you want a wrap?" Yes. Yes I do please and thank you. The other customers in there were on their second meal there, for the week, and they had tried to go a 3rd time after business hours. I can't say enough good things about the Breaking Bean!! It is a cozy little cafe in a great location near the water - it is the perfect stop after a run along the water or for a rainy day. I forgot my purse with a lot of belongings in the cafe, and then I made my way back from Canada to the states. I only realized I had forgotten my purse after crossing the border, and could not get back in to retrieve it due to the covid test requirement to enter Canada. I called the cafe, and the woman who works there offered to mail it back to me (without even me asking)! I tried to pay her over Venmo for the post office fee, but she refused! The staff at breaking bean latte are the gold standard for quality local businesses that deserve support and frequent patronage! I will surely be returning. They have a variety of drinks and food. My boyfriend and I tried the matcha latte, breaking bean latte, and one of their egg and avocado crepes. The crepe was delicious and filling; the egg was cracked whole between two thin layers of crepe batter which I thought was ingenious. The breaking bean latte is a cocktail made with coffee and it was so scrumptious, especially the fresh cream on top. We decided to try this "coffee" shop after seeing the high ratings. We ordered 2 lattes and a breakfast type crepe to share. The woman that took our order had this look of "what do you want, and who cares that you're here". Regardless, we dined in. The lattes were mediocre. It had a thin layer of white foam on top, and the taste was bland. It was not the type of latte you would expect at a coffee shop with trained baristas. To be even more honest, my Nespresso at home makes better tasting lattes with foam. The crepe had avocados, bacon, and spinach. Any reason why the eggs were excluded from this breakfast crepe? For the price, let's put in some eggs! Final thought: If a coffee shop is not capable of making a quality latte, it's not a coffee shop. read more

I'm addicted to the turkey croissant and the ham croissant. The meat, cheese and avocado is as fresh as the flaky pastry they put it on. Wash it down with an ice-cold Asahi, or a piece of gooey chocolate cake. The prices are great. I got a huge sandwich, chips and a giant piece of cake for $19 (including tax). Except it's mom and daughter ;) I came in to grab a coffee for my work pal and I before our event and Breaking Bean just so conveniently happened to be right in front of where I parked my car. For some reason, it wasn't what I expected it to be. Decor wise, there were a lot of glass mugs on glass shelves lined along the walls - it kind of reminded me of a modern-looking antique shop (ironic?). There were also plenty of Asian-inspired decorations on the walls. Above the kitchen you could see science equipment like beakers, test tubes, and flasks - fitting to the "Breaking Bean" theme. As for food, it's definitely cafe-style. You have the option of breakfast sandwiches, bagels, and pastries, which is all made by the owners in the morning. They also have a wide selection of drinks and coffees. When I came in I ordered the fruit bowl and salmon and avocado bagel. My eyes were definitely bigger than my stomach because I couldn't even finish half of my bagel. The other half I did eat though was so tasty, the avocado was fresh and the salmon was flavourful, definitely a yummy, healthy snack. The fruit bowl I had was also so delicious - it had all my fave fruits, watermelon, pineapple and strawberries, and all of them tasted very fresh, as if they were cut and picked just that morning. With limited time in Vancouver, we decided to be spontaneous (giving us a surprise) and pick the first breakfast place we saw. Also being without cellular reception made things harder to find places to eat, only limited to the Internet through wifi. And unfortunately for this place, I have been spoiled with other amazing foods that made the meal dis-satisfying. Their tea is decent, ordered the hibiscus tea, but it would be better if they allowed us to seep our own tea. They seeped the tea too dark for my taste. We ordered the smoke salmon crepe and the ham/cheese crepe, which were both okay/edible. I was not wowed by it, but filled my appetite, ready for the day. This cafe has free wifi but that's the only positive thing from the place. Not so cheap food, for a disappointed meal. Disappointing place that I would not go back, even if I stayed next door to the cafe. read more

Came here because of the name (I love the show) & the proximity to my hotel. I ordered an almond latte and my daughter got the raspberry vanilla tea. Both were awesome. The atmosphere is cool because you can watch how they make the drinks. It's some sort of Japanese process that looks like chemistry. We were fascinated watching it. The locals obviously like it as well because 2 couples came in while we were there and the barista knew them and there drink order. We didn't order food so I can't say anything about that but I highly recommend the drinks and the experience. read more

Over the days we were there, we tried their smoked salmon, avocado, cream cheese, red onion, and caper bagel and that was delicious, filling, and heavy on the salmon and avocado. My partner and I enjoyed breakfast and coffee before grabbing the Capilano Suspension Bridge Park Free Shuttle located outside the Westin Hotel. The staff were not overly attentive, I had to ask for service for both drink and food. After getting their attention, they were fantastic! The coffee and raspberry mocha were great as well, I would come again for a coffee if I were in the area. We both ordered the breakfast croissant which were massive and tasty, slit and filled with scrambled eggs, and again, massive. I live half a block a way and come here sometimes for weekend brunch. It's a nice Cafe. Better than average food and tea selection. However it is in the upper end of price range. So maybe more of a 3.75 So as long as price isn't an issue. You will get better crepes here vs something like cafe crepe. Friendly people and a lovely lovely area if I do say so myself ;) read more
