    cold brew

Well i wasn't able to satisfy my chocolate fix at kasama so i opted for an iced decaf mocha no ice here at Kafka's. I was not at all disappointed. This was so yummy and chocolatey!!! Lovely indoor outdoor seating options and friendly service. This place is a winner. Hubby enjoyed his cold brew as well!

This is some dam fine coffee. They only have one type of coffee brew going in the morning which I find bewildering as surely people have a preference, whether it be more of a classic breakfast blend or a dark roast for those that like the taste of their coffee beans more to the bitter side. None the less, I was in luck as I always go for the dark roast, and they were brewing Columbian with hints of: Cherry Cola, Black Tea, and Dark Chocolate. The coffee was top grade, not watery at all, and packed a very high-quality bite to it. There is usually only one person working here and I feel for them as the place can get crowded very quickly. My girlfriend tried the matcha tea and she was a fan. I have heard from other yelpers that this coffee and tea spot can be a little bit pricier than the other coffee spots however the design of the place is awesome, and they do not blast music like in every other place my girlfriend and I stopped into for morning coffee that week. I have not been to their other location but the one on Richards street I highly recommend you give it a try. And as always people SYOY!!!

Very disappointed! I went to try their special Elphaba matcha hot chocolate for the hot chocolate festival and it was nothing as advertised. No matcha foam, very sweet and liquid chocolate, no matcha taste, such a bit of matcha powder on top. The bitterness of the matcha should have made it a great drink but clearly not enough matcha if any. Nothing like in the pictures. Clearly I won't come back.

    Uniquely designed cafe

I enjoyed my time grabbing some coffee here and working on my laptop outside. I was definitely drawn by the name and the way that they incorporate some surrealism into their decor. It's a uniquely designed cafe with fun interior touches. They make good use of the space, although it feels a bit cramped. As soon as a mother sat a coughing child down next to me, I headed outside. The interior is a little dingy, which took away a little bit. A cool space should be cared for a bit better, IMO. I like that the location is in this family centered area and you can watch families interacting in the spaces around, such as the little water spouts coming out of the ground or the park next door. A light ambiance for the background of your work. I had a cortado and the coffee was really good. I was tempted to grab a bag but funnily enough, didn't want to like it and then have a hard time getting more! The service was typical for a coffee shop, or I would say friendly. I definitely think this place is worth your time.

Cute cafe in the midst of downtown by a relatively new park/art installation. The interior of the shop is vibrant, and is oddly shaped which was cool. I went in the middle of summer, and it was jam packed. Staff were friendly enough, but very busy. I got a cold flat white, and a cold oat milk latte. Don't remember the exact price, probably around the ~$6 mark. Swapping to oat milk was one of the pricier places I've been, I think it was about a $1 or so. Overall a nice experience.

Kafka's Coffee & Tea is a really funky cool like dat concept coffee (& tea) shop. I first came across Kafka's at their Gastown location. See my pix! This new location is tied in to the urban park here at Richard's St & Smithe. It is a tiny spot but has plenty of outdoor seating attached to the park. Oh & do go see my pix & review for this Vancouver park, yet to be officially named. Coffee & Tea are highly subjective to each individuals taste buds. Your particular flavour might not appeal to me & vice versa, so do give Kafka's & try & don't be afraid to try something new here if it's your first time. Kafka's is a locally owned business = #supportlocal

rainbow park located on smithe and richards

met up with a friend for lunch at 12:30 pm on a rainy monday, and there was only one other person in the cafe at the time. it didn't take long for the place to fill up during the lunch hour crowd and people seeking refuge from the rain. kafka's is located on richards and smithe, the site of the newest downtown park, and opens out into an urban plaza. this park is an oasis in the heart of downtown vancouver, and is further enhanced with having a locally roasted coffee shop that offers all day breakfast, lunch, baked goods, and soft serve ice cream (seasonal). it is evident that a lot of thought, planning, and money has gone in to this urban development, it's innovative and sustainably designed. i had a latte and their avocado toast with pickled onions, arugula and chilli oil on a sourdough bread. this place is a great alternative to starbucks, and other similar coffee shops in the downtown area, as it offers a nice respite from the hustle and bustle of a concrete jungle. kafka's in the park is opened seven days a week from 7am to 6pm.

Cute cafe on the corner of Richards and Smithe next to Rainbow Park. Love the lighting and funky design. Latte was nice and smooth. The oat milk charge was quite pricey though.

Nice spot for a bite. We had the London Fog as a beverage and an Eggtopia (maybe a bit greasy but that can be good) and a chicken shawarma sandwich. A tasty light lunch. Servers were efficient and it wasn't too loud or crowded.

Let me just get to the point right away with this cute little coffee/eatery. If service is important to you and you're watching your $....then you may not want to try this place. If you're looking to grab n go with money to spend then....sure check it out. This place from afar looks quite enticing. The decor, architecture and open patio is luring and that's what happened to me. I was looking to grab lunch and this place called me over.....the place not the people....keep reading... When I walked in, there was a cold reception from the front staff. They were clearly overwhelmed, but it was more than that....they were just not very friendly. The lady looked like she didn't want to be there, was annoyed and wanted to go to the beach. The guy working next to her at the coffee section was of the same energy and attitude. Clearly looked at me and not a single smile, no hello, no have you been helped...nothing. What made it even worse, in terms of service, was when his buddy walked in there was the disposition he should've had with every guest that walks in. Anyway, moving on..... Also they didn't know their own menu. I ordered the Glory Bowl and asked the lady, other than Chicken and fake meat were there any other proteins I could add? and she recommended egg, which I later found out it came with already, so if I had listened to her suggestion I would've paid for and had extra egg on the bowl. When my bowl was ready a kitchen staff member came up and called my name, set it down and just left...without making sure that it got to the right person and the girl who took my order was still in a trance and the coffee guy...well he was clearly busy entertaining his buddy. I grabbed my bowl and left....with no thank you for coming..have a nice day....hope to see you soon.....I could've grabbed the wrong one and left and none of them would've been the wiser. The Glory Bowl itself was pretty good. Daring pairing of fresh ingredients that surprisingly worked nicely together. The only suggestion I would have for the bowl is to increase the portion of the quinoa as it is an ingredient not a garnish. The bowl was $14 and with added chicken it was an extra $4, so it's quite pricy compared to sit down restaurants and their entree salads and health bowls in the area. But, I think what struck the most for me was this: When you look at the place from across the street, you get a sense of a trendy, relax, summery, fun and light place in beautiful Yaletown to grab coffee and a bite, but when you walk in you feel a stormy cold chill.....simply coming from staff, that I'm sure mean well, but might want to warm up the place a bit with some adjustments in their service and attitude. It's a shame that a place would sabotage repeat business merely due to staff service. When you're charging those prices the guest is entitled to more than...here's your order...do you want a receipt? To be frank, I've gotten better service from MacDonalds. Everything considered I would not return.

The coffee is very good. The device is pretty miserable and extraordinarily slow. A good variety of the usual snacks (cookies etc) but nothing outstanding. There are better options within close proximity of this cafe.

I think it was one of those Cherry Blossom Food Festivals that brought this place to my attention…read moreabout a year or two ago. Been wanting to try it for awhile and now I finally have. We ordered the following: Tiramisu Latte Caprese Bite London Fog Apple Cookie Cherry Matcha Tonic Tiramisu Sea Salt Caramel Gelato The Cherry Matcha Tonic was pretty but wasn't too crazy about the flavor. I should have just gone with my original gut instinct and chosen a hot beverage like Hojicha Latte or something like that. I was sort of thirsting for something cooler for a change though, and the Cherry Matcha Tonic was the first "cool" drink that caught my eye so I decided to go for it. Won't do that again. Everything else was good though. The Sea Salt Caramel Gelato was the star of the show! In the store there's a sign beneath their gelato section that says "Canadian Gelato Champion". I believe it after tasting the Sea Salt Caramel! They had Nama Chocolates too. I was tempted to get some but...only so much a person's wallet and waistline can handle at one time. Will try the Nama Chocolate some other time. You can order in person here, or you can place an "Express" order at the Kiosk. We tried both ways of ordering. Ordered at the counter first and then after finished my Cherry Matcha Tonic decided I wanted to try the Sea Salt Gelato so then tried ordering that from the Kiosk. Most of the parking in this area is paid but I lucked out and got a free spot right around the corner from this place!

Wow, a new cafe in the neighbourhood. This coffee shop caught my attention for its beautiful…read moreaesthetic and it's even open till 10pm. I could tell even from outside that it's a popular work and study type of coffee shop with your free wifi and outlets. I hope this post doesn't give it away and make it way too crowded for me to find a seat next time. There's a steady flow of people visiting the stores while I was there on a weekday between late afternoon and early evening but there's always extra seat for anyone new looking for a desk to work or chat with friends. A few could be better are the pricing and temperature. They offer free oat milk substitute and -$0.35 for bringing your own cup but no more employee discount. And it was so cold in there, I could see a lot of people kept their winter jackets on, I don't think it's a heating issue but the constant windy seems to suggest the AC is on rather than the heater, oh wells Im out of there now. For that reason, unless I'm bundled up, it'll be a hard sale to be back again! I got a hojicha latte and it as pretty good, perfect sweetness and temperature for my cold with no ice. The barista was super great to work with.
