Breakout is my second Escape Room experience and we had a ball! We escaped the Mystery Mansion room with less than a minute to spare! Things got dicey there at the end but we were all so proud to have broken out. Bobby was our Game Master and they were a total delight. Even though one of their coworkers forgot to reset a lock, we played along and pretended it was still locked until we found its hint. The game truly was challenging and each step forward we made was so rewarding. There were some clues I just could never have made the logical leap to solve without a hint from our GM, but I'm glad they give us hints so that we enjoy our time. None of the puzzles were adequately signposted, we spent a lot of time with the right answers and no clue what to do with them. It felt like you were just supposed to guess a lot of stuff with no way to figure it out other than blind chance (or hints). The handcuff gimmick was at least interesting. read more

We almost...so so so close to lifting the curse in the "Mystery Mansion" event. There was a nice mix of easy and hard puzzles, some almost too easy that left you thinking 'nah....' Our gamemaster Sydney was great and helpful when we all agreed to ask for clues/help etc. Definitely use any whiteboards they give you and write things down! Me and my friends played the Do Not Disturb room (12/15/20) and had so much fun! This is one of the toughest rooms at this location, so if you want an extra challenge I definitely recommend this one, even for me and my friend who do quite a few escape rooms and are decent at them, this one really made our brains squeeze. I can't remember our game masters name but he was a hoot and super helpful, some game masters don't give you a lot when you ask for a hint but he did it in a great way that guided us without straight up telling us, which is how it should be. We made it to the very last task and missed getting out within seconds, so my competitive self is still mad haha. This room is motel-themed, and when we walked in I literally felt like we had just walked into some trashy, creepy motel room, it was so eery and impressive. The only thing I didn't really like about the room was that all of the puzzles up until the last one were logic based and fit in with a riddle or something like that, but the last thing we had to do was not like that, it didn't really have the same consistency which is why I think we struggled with it, but hey still had a ton of fun and would come back again! read more

This was my first escape room. We were a group of four people and selected the island room (all I'll say!). I was not familiar with how to address the various puzzles and clues throughout the room but other members of my party were good at guiding the process. It was a really cool opportunity to think and be creative, kind of like logic puzzles back in school. We managed to escape just in time, and it was a great feeling! Throughout the game, our gamemaster was on hand with hints, help and advice. They were very helpful and definitely helped to make it a more comfortable experience. We did the casino escape room. This might be the hardest escape room I've ever done. It was simply a sensory overload with at least 15 puzzles to solve. The room was also pretty small for a max 7-player game. The storyline was solid, but I think they made it overly complex. Since a lot of the puzzles had to be solved in sequence, I think it would be better suited for four people in this space. We had to receive four clues just to continue the game. We were told afterward that no one has escaped the room without getting any hints. We had a good time here. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I would come back and try another room, but probably wouldn't recommend the casino one. read more

Wow, what an experience! Tried out the Casino Royal escape room and it was tough. Missed out on escaping by 30 seconds. This was the hardest escape room I've ever done. It easily had 20 puzzles to solve and lots of complexity. I also appreciated the reasonable pricing. Other places in town start at $30-35 plus tax, but Breakout Games starts at $30 and goes down as you add people. One issue we did have was a lockbox that opened really hard so we ended up wasting ten minutes until the host told us to try it again. After saying that everything would turn easily in the intro, that was a bit frustrating. I'll be back again to try out some of the other rooms! read more

Unimpressed. Maybe it was because I had been to a few in Florida, but this just wasn't that great. My biggest disappointment is that the one we did was only one room. After you do a few with multiple rooms to explore, one room is very meh. Plus, multiple rooms give players a chance to move around and solve different puzzles. Here, there were too many times that the three of us were trying to work on the same thing (and that's actually annoying bc each person processes differently. I couldn't imagine being in there with six people! In comparison to others I've done, this was smaller with far fewer things to solve (albeit tough), and yet cost more: about $135 for 3 people. I will not being going back to this chain of escape rooms. I guess I've been spoiled? read more

We have been here on two separate occasions. The first time was several years ago and I believe the theme was Sherlock Holmes. The most recent time the theme was "Do Not Disturb" room. There was a group of 6 girls who played, while 7 guys did another room, making it a competition to see who could get out first. We were about 45 minutes into the game when we heard cheering next door - turns out they beat us! However, we were informed when beginning the game that we were taking on the hardest room. We did not end up escaping but were about two steps away from it. The game master was very patient with us and only provided clues when we asked. He did a great job at explaining the game prior to us beginning it, making it feel like a real situation. This place is fairly close to our home so I have no doubt we will be back to play another room in the future. Nice employees, creative designs, and memorable pictures at the end! read more

Our group has done a few different escape rooms in Pittsburgh as well as in other cities. Decided to try Breakout Games for a family group, doing the Mystery Mansion room. We had a really fun experience! Our host, Matt, was wonderful -- relaxed, funny, and had a great ability to drop some guidance on us without "solving" the problems for us. We had a child with us, and the room worked well for our mixed-ages group. There were a lot of tactile and interactive items that made it especially fun for her, while still remaining challenging for the adults. Thought the room had a great combination of larger items to manipulate and handle (furniture, etc) as well as smaller clue items. Really liked the included white board and the crate for items once we were done with them...it really helped to keep things organized. We would definitely return to Breakout Games in the future! read more

Ok... so we didn't break out.... but we had a blast!! We went on a double date night with some friends on a Monday evening. Once we arrived, our Game Master, Spencer, promptly explained the general gist of the 'Do Not Disturb' room and explained that he would be watching and listening to assist us if needed. He was super helpful, even though we probably needed two+ hours to break out! Haha. What I love about this company over the others is that when you book, you're booking a private room. The more people you have, the cheaper it is. But you're not sharing a space with people you don't know, unlike many of the other 'escape rooms' we have researched. Four people with masters degrees got about halfway- we were overthinking a lot, instead of just having common sense on a number of things. We needed a kid with common sense in there with us haha! But don't let that stop you - we had a ton of fun trying to figure out the riddles, break open the locks, and put the puzzle pieces together. At the end, we were presented with stickers & took a free group photo to memorialize our time. They took the time to ask us if we enjoyed the experience even though we didn't make it out; and honestly we really did. A big thanks to Spencer for walking us through our first experience! I am not sure what I expected, but this was way different and more awesome than I could have imagined! I will DEFINITELY be back to try out another room! And maybe, just maybe, we'll BREAKOUT next time! read more

Great 1st escape room experience! Our guide Nick was super friendly and helpful. We did the Hostage escape, and we started off blind folded and handcuffed. This place was recommended to me by a friend so a group of us organized a trip here on a Saturday afternoon. We ended up trying to break out of the kidnapping room and were very unsuccessful and 3 people from our group never made it out alive (just kidding). The buildup to the start of the challenge is very cool and sets the tone for the event. Our group started out very slow gathering clues and figuring out what needs done. The games have a certain pattern to them and once we were able to figure that out (with some helpful nudges from our guide) we started putting together clues and solving small riddles. What I love about this place: it's a great team building exercise, the event is entertaining and engaging for a wide variety of ages, the guide is there to help you along so that you are never stuck for too long, and the prices is very reasonable for individuals or groups. What I was not impressed with: some of the clues were a little cheesy and maybe a bit backwards. Overall this place is a great value. I will for sure be back here to play another breakout game. Our group had a lot of fun playing breakout games and I would highly recommend it to anyone who likes puzzles! read more

We didn't BREAKOUT! So what does that mean?? It means I'll be back and not just because I love a challenge...the Breakout Room is really top notch. Friends of mine were visiting out of town so we were looking for a different activity beyond the usual drinks and dinner. Found a Groupon for the Breakout room, though their normal pricing is reasonable. We chose the Museum Heist. When we arrived we were greeted with a warm welcome. There is some paperwork to fill out that you can do prior (which we did) and it speeds up the process. We were given the details of what to expect...none of us had ever done an escape the room challenge before. Everything was explained very thoroughly and we were assured if we were stuck, help is available. There is a monitor of the room via camera so they will "gently" guide you. Thank god we had Artie to do that! He was awesome and helped us with our clues without giving the answer. It was tough, but so fun! We had four in our group. I think we could have used two more brains to help us out, but a few more may have been too many Crooks in the Heist! Six to eight in my mind would be a perfect number. The clues are really well-thought. This is not easy folks, but the challenge is awesome. If you're looking for a great night of fun, check out the Breakout Room. Next time we'll get out! Has a great time. It wasn't our first time at Breakout, but was our first time at Breakout Pittsburgh. We did Operation Casino - it was fun, solid theme, and had a good level of challenge. Breakout is a good place to go if you're looking for an exciting and challenging escape room, but not necessarily physically intimidating or stressful. One of our group has difficulty standing for long periods of time, but Breakout added a chair upon request and she was able to safely and comfortably be involved in the entire experience. We had so much fun. I went and did the Hostage room with my husband, dad, and mom. Would definitely recommend to others and would definitely come back again to try another room. We had a great game master who helped us when we needed a push in the right direction, without giving too much away (sometimes even just to say "you're overthinking it", haha). We were fairly nervous going in, having never done any escape rooms before, but we were amazed how each of us ended up fulfilling some role in figuring out the puzzles and the staff made us feel at ease. To our own surprise, we ended up escaping with :39 seconds on the clock. Couldn't believe it. It was well put together and the staff were great. Today was our second time at Breakout Games. We have attended many escape rooms and this place is by far our favorite. It's got high end elements and it's actually hard to solve. This room was brand new and so cool! Our teenagers were fully engaged and off thier phones and our 8 year old was able to contribute too! The place is clean and professional.
