The attention to detail is clear as soon as we entered the lobby, where the decor and props were amazing. Our group did the Time Breaker Challenge, and the rooms were really well done. This was really amazing. We had our team building there, rented one of the side rooms for lunch, followed by escape room games. It was first time for most on the team and everyone had so much fun. Clara and the staff was great during day of and Clara was super helpful with the organization and planning. I Wish I can give this place a zillion stars (I wish). We had a birthday party, the conference room was really nice . The escape rooms were very very very very good. If you wanted a hint, they gave us this walkie talkie so we can get hints. I finished my escape room less than 50 minutes. There health score from the County should be a 100. All the props were awesome, solving the clues was a decent and fun challenge and the overall room was designed really well. And the staff there was extremely nice and welcoming. This was a good team building and bonding experience with friends of ours as we had to learn to communicate and collaborate on the challenges. We tried the most difficult one for the first time but still felt exhilarated that we could complete it albeit with some help in critical steps. I chose this for a Team Building Event. Clara and her staff were helpful and accommodating. Our chartered bus was late, and Clara made sure that when we arrived, we were greeted at the door and ushered to the venue. Our group was so excited to choose their escape room situations. Having done over 60 escape rooms together my fiance and I took our escape room team to Breakout Studios. Typically when it comes to us trying out new companies we like to play run room as a means to sample the overall quality of the games and our experiences will determine if we want to comeback to "binge" the other games. After playing "The Father of Silicon Valley" and experiencing some amazing service from the staff, we are determined to try the rest of the games. Coming into the game, one of our team members was running late due to a sudden traffic accident that pushed their ETA by 30 minutes. Breakout Studios staff gave us a number of reasonable alternative plans to choose from and was able to allow our late player into the building having them swiftly join the game where they only missed three puzzles. This fact alone is worth commemorating and I would be remiss if I did not mention this in my review. Before I can talk about the core theme of the game I first have to talk about the meta narrative. Breakout Studios runs a "time traveling" story line that presents itself to you right in the lobby, each game is tied together with this narrative through line giving each room an extra bit of story context. You're not just going to an future room, or an old 1940 office instead you are a team of time travelers visiting these key moments in history to help repair the present and future. While other rooms in the bay will have spiritual successors for each other (see Kingdom of Cats at Omescape) or be presented as a linear series (Pandorum at Off the Couch) seeing a series of rooms all connected by a loose story line is an experience that's not very common here. "The Father of Silicone Valley" has players traveling back in time to 1942 to prevent the death of Frederick Emmons Terman (the real life father of silicon valley). Right from the get go this room is ticking off boxes of things I wish more escape room companies would do and that's draw inspiration from the rich history of the Bay Area. There's a lot of places here that would make great settings for escape rooms such as Old Alvarado (the original Hollywood), Sutro Baths or even the Mystery Spot. The simple fact that there has not been one room based off of the lore of the Winchester Mansion is a crying shame and I hope this is fixed in the near future. Featured in this room are various photos of Terman, old maps of Stanford University and even building plans for the San Jose lighthouse. We were not just in an old room, but an old room in the Bay Area. Presentation was off the charts here featuring a memorable preshow done with a level of pizazz that no other escape room company I've been to has even attempted. Other reviewers have commented on the surprising beginning and they are correct. Even the mundane act of the "hallway walk to your room" has been jazzed up which only added to the dramatic flair. The room itself was in great condition, switches worked, locks were crisp and props looked emasculate showing great care and maintenance was done on the game as well as great mood lighting. A small tip for any budding escape room designers out there, the key to making your game "feel" like an actual escape room vs space in a building with random knick knacks and locks is to get your lighting right, really helps build immersion. The puzzles themselves had your standard mix of code hunting, office searching with some cool key delivery systems and a big set piece that was rather impressive to look at but fun to handle. If I had to be critical of certain aspects it would be that the actual story integration (especially the two major objectives) felt more like incidents to solving puzzles as opposed to direct moments of action in addition we were given a standard walkie talkie for contacting the GM for hints (perfectly fine) but no diegetic explanation to why this walkie talkie works or how the hints were being given to us. Obviously these are narrative compromises us as players have to give to the company and by no means did it destroy the experience however one of the reasons why it was more noticeable here versus other places was that the commitment to storytelling is so strong that minor hiccups are a bit more noticeable compared to everything else which is swinging for the fences. In the end "The Father of Silicone Valley" has amazing presentation with very strong puzzles and tech that adds to the experience without it feeling like a gimmick or getting in our way. We are excited to return and see what else this place has to offer. Results Escape with a team of 3 enthusiast and one beginner with 5 minutes left taking 5 hints. read more

Booked BreakOut Studios for my 21st Birthday with my family and had a great time. We booked for the father of silicon valley with a group of 11, and Clara was nice enough to allow us to squeeze in. It was most of our first times doing an escape room and the staff was very helpful in guiding us through the puzzles. Initially I have read reviews of other escape rooms being worn down after use but BreakOut Studios was in really great condition. They also have lockers to store phones and any other belonging before entering the escape room, they also allow you to hold the key to the locker as well. The theme and design of the rooms were very compelling, especially the time machine room you must go through first. In addition, it was really interesting how the puzzles story lines tied back to the theme of living in the silicon valley. At the end they even provided me and my girlfriend free shirts for our birthdays, took our photos, and gave us promo cards for the future. I would highly reccomend this place for all ages! It was a challenging experience overall and we finished with 8 minutes to spare. read more

Wowwwww! I've done so many escape rooms and this by far has been one of the best in the area. Once you walk in, you get immediately immersed. I don't want to give anything away but the rooms are fully themed and there are multiple experiences in one session. Not to mention, it is beautifully decorated and the staff is so accommodating! Loved it! Our group of 7 had called in the day of and we were lucky that someone cancelled so we could get a room! When you enter the lobby, it is all steampunk style.
