Loved my experience here. Came here for a work event and it has been one of my favorite ones so far! Everyone that works here is happy to be there and are so kind. During the class you are taught how to make 3 different dishes: an appetizer, a main, and a dessert. Each dish had its own station. You could choose station to begin with and move around as you wish. We were a pretty large group and I'll admit it was a teeny bit cramped sometimes and I wish there were more tools to use, but for the most part it worked very well. It was very fun and I got to learn few tips and tricks and I highly recommend it!

I took the Knife Skills on September 13th and it was incredible!! As an adult who has been cooking for myself for many years, but who never actually learned basic cutting techniques, this class was literally life-changing. Already in 24 hours I have saved so much time in my own kitchen (and I have a toddler so time-savings is a must.) The space itself is spotless and airy, in a great neighborhood (close to a coffee shop too which was so nice before the class). The class was super practical, fast-paced and included a LOT of practice of different cuts on different fruits and vegetables. We always learned the "official" French kitchen cut and then adapted it for home cooking, which I really appreciated. Ken, the instructor, was engaging and hilarious, while also giving actionable feedback to each participant. I went by myself and I was worried that it would be awkward because I didn't know anyone but the majority of participants were on their own too, and we were so busy during the class that it was fine if you didn't know anyone beforehand. I was also worried about the length of the class - 3 hours?! - but it went by so fast and every single minute was useful. If you are a home cook who wants to up your game, and never learned any of the "correct" techniques, I can't recommend the Knife Skills class enough!! I look forward to trying out the other classes and bringing my husband next time!!

Came here for a team social and we all really enjoyed it. We were led by Ken and the other staff and everyone was so lovely and nice. We cooked mushroom crostini, miso salmon with forbidden rice, and apple tartini. All 3 dishes were going at once, and we could walk around as we pleased and decide where to participate. I honestly didn't expect the food to be restaurant-tier dishes, but the salmon for sure was (it was my favorite dish). As someone who already knows how to cook and loves to cook, I was still able to learn new things here. I really enjoyed my experience here and would definitely recommend this for any team building events.

My company hosted a Friday night dinner social & we were quite a large group. Despite many chefs in the kitchen we all got to participate in making our three course dinner and learn a lot more cooking skills, baking skills, and techniques. Very spacious and easy to move around without bumping others. Staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. You get to choose which station you want to participate in and if you finish early you can jump in another station. I chose the dessert station as I enjoy baking and it's even the simple things you get to learn about. Like the proper way to make whipped cream to allow it to stay fluffy and whipped for much longer ! They give you information on how to create sophisticated dishes with simple ingredients. It didn't feel pressured and jokes were being passed along. They will give the recipe and instructions emailed. Since it got late we ended up seating to start devouring the apps while the rest of the chefs finished plating our dinner. Very homey comfortable vibes and cute aprons to choose from. Parking is tight in the lot, otherwise street parking in dtsj with 2 hour limit. The class itself is about 2 hours so you'll be fine.

We had a corporate event and had a friendly pie baking competiton. Chef Ken & his staff were absolutely wonderful. Very accommodating and patient as we had people trickle in due to work obligations and traffic, but they were very kind and made sure all our needs were met. The 3 course meal (4 course including our own pies for dessert) was delicious and well made. Chef Ken explained everything in detail and made a vegetarian orzo dish for our vegetarian colleagues which garnered rave reviews. Post event, Colleen also shared the recipes via email for all the dishes Chef Ken made so we can attempt to replicate on our own. Very thoughtful and nice touch!

We have come here several times for team building events! The team at Cultivate is amazing. They skillfully guide you through the steps to make each dish and are always open to questions and explain techniques as they go. Their menus are always incredible. Highly recommend you consider them for your next group event!

I'm going to do a quick review of this place, I've always been interested in it but haven't yet done one of their classes - however I learned a lot more today. Today they were doing an open house while a bicycling event was going on outside - complete with food items that they made themselves, of which I tried their flank steak sandwich with chevre. It was quite tasty. They talked to me about their date nights and single nights and other events which go on at this place. I am very interested in trying one of them out. They were very friendly explaining all of this to me. I'm looking forward to trying them out for real and updating this review once I do so.

Trying to think of something that I would suggest to improve on - and I can't. I received an email ahead of time to let me know about the parking options, which was very helpful. Upon arrival, we were greeted by Monica and asked what we would like to drink. Yea! Kicking it off on the right foot. Btw - the rose lemonade is really yummy. I loved how Andrew made sure that all of us were involved in the whole process. He made sure that he not only taught us cooking skills, but also safe and easy tips along the way. Mark was great as well as he assisted us when we needed help with the sauce and mixing. This is a super fun idea to do as a date nite - we had a few couples in our group. Keep in mind - you don't need to be an expert to cook - if you can follow directions and hold a cooking utensil - you're in.

LITERALLY THE BEST PLACE TO PLAN A PRIVATE EVENT, TEAM BUILDING ETC!! 5 stars go out to this kitchen for their high levels of accommodation, customer service, and quality work. Had planned a small get-together for my diehard Starwars fan//fiance and without me even having to ask, they had the Starwars music playing as soon as we got in. They allowed me to bring in some decorations to customize the event to our theme... and a SPECIAL shout-out to our chefs: Evelyn & Robert for goin' with the flow, using the Jedi force & leading us toward such a fun night!! What stood out the most with Cultivate than other culinary events was the fact that they were EXTREMELY accommodating towards guests with dietary preferences. We have 1 friend that is pescatarian and most places I contacted could only swap their dish with veggies OR everyone's menu had to be standardized to vegetarian. That was not the case at Cultivate. All us meat eaters were able to enjoy our medium rare flank steak AND our pescatarian friend was still able to get her protein: a whole salmon cut cooked to her preference! Additionally, we didn't know that the dessert contained an ingredient she couldn't eat, but it was an easy fix as they had an alternate sorbet dessert option to provide on the fly that was just as tasty! They provide all the materials to use (though I brought in my own custom aprons/chef hats). If you are not a wine/beer person, they also serve low alcohol content beverages like mimosas or sangria - so you have options. TDLR; choose this place for quality culinary work, superior customer service & accommodation, AND aesthetics! Promise that you and your guests will enjoy to the fullest. (-:

This was a fun work event that our team participated in. We chose a 4 course meal with prep, no competition, with wine pairing. Everything was great and the hosts were nice and knowledgeable!

I thought maybe the lady was new here so I went back to the store and asked, and they credited me back the difference, and they gave me a big wrapping paper and a ribbon and told me the wrapping is going to take 2 hours and let me wrap it myself. I asked them if there was anywhere that I can stand and quickly wrap it, since I was giving it out right after, they said no and then started to ignore me. I waited a long time to borrow a pair of scissor and some tapes because the lady standing in front of me kept ignoring me. I have been very patient until the ladt time I asked for some tapes, and she told me she had customers. I don't understand, so am I not a customer and she wouldn't spare 5 seconds to grab the tape for me? Is it because I only bought $30 gift set and that's why I do not deserve good customer service? Overall, TERRBLE SERVICE. Won't ever come back again.

I booked a Tuesday evening class during winter break. You get a confirmation email and that's it. I was worried about prep but they prepare everything for you and thought up everything as well. Small parking lot. They had us wash our hands when we arrived and then each kiddo had a color sheet with crayons. Nice touch but defeats the purpose of washing our hands first. The two of us shared a table with another mom with their toddler. Each toddler had their own set up to make 6 cookies. Everything was pre measured and it wasn't too messy. We were able to bake 6 cookies and use whatever toppings - she got to choose between chocolate chips, m&ms, white chocolate chips and these dried fruits. They read a book to the kids and then made milk shakes as a group. Each kid got a small cup and to place chocolate chips/m&Ms in. The cookies were really delicious and my child loved the milk shake. One thing is that you can't stop other kiddos from touching your items/food. Would return.

Pros: The shared table experience was great for meeting new people and having extra sets of brains for multitasking. Cons: Seating is random and the experience is shared; ie: one burner for 4, and the end products are shared. Our dish ended up being over-salted, and our experience was halved in interactive-ness due to the luck of the draw of seating. Never have I had a spoon or spatula taken away from my hands so fast before. And most certainly never have I had someone critique the knives and actively give the duller knife to us. This shared table experience was essentially a fight for all (for us). BUT this is just dependent on the attendees and who you're seated with. The other shared tables didn't seem to have such issues. For a more interactive learning experience, I recommend the private table to avoid the risk of randomization. On the bright side, we got to see how other couples interact, whether it was actively taking items from their partner's hands because they were doing the task wrong (ie: mixing eggs wrong??) or the couple next to us taking cute photos of each other and sharing drinks while enjoying their time together. The structure of the class was decent, organized, and well-paced. All ingredients were measured and prepared. Baking, cleaning, and chilling items were taken care of by staff. Prepping the dish (ie: battering items, mixing ingredients) and active cooking were the only things needed to be done. The instructor would explain the ingredients provided and the instructions during the instruction period for the dish at hand. Following the instructions, prep/cooking occurs while the instructor supervises and provides aid or guidance as needed. All in all, I had a great experience. The staff was nice, especially the instructor, and I felt taken care of during my cooking class experience. Would return for pasta night-- most definitely for the private table experience.

Not just to make it by…read morewithout starving, but really learn how to make quality food at home--I'm a foodie after all. ;-) This is the best cooking class company I've taken classes at to help me move closer to my goal. Highlights: - Format: A combination of demo and hands on which is the perfect mix: "see then do" as they say. Thorough and educational with detailed information on not only cooking techniques, but also the equipment (helpful gadgets in some cases), ingredients, their origins, and health benefits. I left each class feeling like I was becoming a more educated and better chef already. I've been to classes at Home Chef (when it was in SJ), Whole Foods (Cup and San Mateo), and Sur La Table (LG), and while those were fun, I didn't really learn as much as I would have liked. - Teacher: friendly, approachable, easy to learn from, comical, seems to genuinely care about her food and the people in her class, and knows her stuff. Chef Suzanne Vandyck has the culinary credentials and has even authored a cookbook. She tells you little tricks here and there along with fun stories of her travels and related eats to give it a personal touch. - Environment: very casual and comfortable. Questions are encouraged throughout and you don't feel intimidated chiming in with one during the demo or while cooking. I've been to classes where you felt like you were learning from a cooking nazi: if you didn't use the right spoon or something she'd snip at you. I want to learn, but this is for fun. I like more hakuna matata attitude here. As Chef Suzanne says, "In a restaurant it has to be perfect, at home it's ok." :-) - International Themes: I took the Easy and Healthy Japanese cooking class but they offer Italian, French, Mediterranean, Spanish, etc. I was a bit weary of learning Japanese food from a lady from Belgium, but she had enough traveling, visiting with locals, eating, and cooking experience to portray the authentic styles. I lived in Japan for a few years and eat Japanese food a good deal and learned tons from her class. - Great recipes: everything that we made was scrumptious. I loved being able to know how to make the classic Japanese sauces (tempura, miso, etc.) There are always options either written down or noted verbal during the demo so you know how you can change it up to suit your tastes or ingredients you have handy. - Salads: when you sign up, you can see what dishes will be made and I was enticed by the entrees. After all was said and done I did enjoy the entrees like expected, but was surprised to be blown away by the salads. The watercress and then spinach salads with dressings we made on our own were amazing. - Recipe handouts: before class you get a few pages stapled together of the recipes of the day. The teacher not only includes pictures up top, but a nice little paragraph of the story and background about what the dish is. - Plating: after Chef Suzanne makes an item, she plates them on beautiful little authentic Japanese plates (since I took the Japanese class) and organizes the food so it looks professional and impressive. Since I want to be a Top Chef quality chef, I love learning these plating skills to make my dishes visually appealing and fancier than the average home cooked meal. 8-) - Leftovers: sometimes there's a lot of food, so if you bring a container you can take some to enjoy at home - People: After the demos we break up into groups and make a few recipes. I didn't take the class to meet new people, but I made some nice friends through the few sessions we've have. - Class time said 6-9:30pm which I was initially worried sounded a bit long, but we usually finished by 9 or earlier so I could make it home to watch Grey's just slightly delayed on TiVo. ;-) - Location: most of the quality classes I have seen are in the city which is hard to get to on a weeknight. These are held closer to home in Cupertino and Santa Clara. Lowlights (my flip side to highlights): - How much fun you have cooking depends on the group you end up in--just normal group dynamics and personalities, etc. - Not optimal equipment: this is where it's a pro to go to a specialty store like Sur La Table or Whole Foods: the equipment will be more top notch. Our class was at Cupertino High School which had dull knives, old silverware, etc. They also didn't have any chopsticks to use in our Japanese class, so we brought our own. - Sometimes she changes the recipe from what's written down so you just have to be aware and take notes on your handouts. - Some classes you get a snack pretty early on but others you don't get to eat until 8:30pm, so you may want to have a snack before just in case. I'm so happy to have found this cooking school and will be looking to take more classes in the future!

Highly recommend Chef Suzanne and Worldchefs International!…read more I've taken Italian cooking classes, garlic cooking classes and a team-building cooking class. All spectacular...
