The employees were nice and the shop was very large with some very cool items, even if they're cheaper. They're what you would expect from a tourist shop. However, I left a decent amount of money on the counter at closing time and when I called in to ask about it, they claimed that I didn't leave anything. I can somewhat understand that the employees were to take it since I left it, but still fighting against me that they didn't take it when I called and asked isn't within good character. They attempted to convince me that I didn't leave it. Like just say you took my money and you're not giving it back. This was my personal bad experience since I made a mistake, but for your reference just make sure not to leave anything because you might not get it back! read more

My girlfriend and I were attending the OB Farmers Market (05-08-2013) when we came across this store. It looked like a normal souvenir shop and both my girlfriend and I had every intention on purchasing some corny items for friends/family back in L.A. The experience we had just had an Ocean Gifts & Shells was still fresh in our minds. As we were walking around this store we came across some disgusting items for sale. What does a Souvenir / Swimsuit shop need? Oh yeah Dead Baby Sharks floating in jars and the heads of Alligators and/or Crocodiles. I knew that I would be reading some crap about this place being touristy and yes-that it is. But it does fulfill a need here in Ocean Beach-where tourists show up and need a beach towel or sunscreen for the kids. Not everything you need can be found at Max's .99 Cents and Up store down the street. I was killing time this morning and wandered around this place-it was entertaining to say the least. Every last little item you might need to hit the sand can be found here as well as shells, wind chimes, tiki's, and cool Lifeguard hoodies that I wanna get for my boy. I found some tanning oil that is hard to find this time of year and it was pretty cheap too. I go to Hawaii a lot and am proud to shop at the ABC stores over there-which are just like this Wings chain, except they sell food and drink items. In fact-Hawaii is so expensive that I practically lived out of those ABC stores and got just about everything I needed there-including dinner! They are a higher class .99 Cents store on the islands. As a kid, I went to the Strand Theater just about every weekend and I do miss it. But I don't hold new businesses that move into it's old premises in anger. I can get just as nostalgic for the old days as any one else but I am practical enough to know that time marches on and sometimes things will adjust to current circumstances and situations. I prefer other types of stores than this Wings stuff, but for some God-forsaken tourist or yahoo-this is just the place they need! So I don't go hatin on it but at the same time-if Ocean Beach were to turn into wall-to-wall Wings-type things, then I would have to start protesting and maybe burning my bra again. But for now, I can live with this store here. And maybe even find it somewhat......"charming." read more

It's a store that sells things that you forgot to bring to the beach, things that you lost at the beach and now need to replace, or things that you didn't know you needed at the beach until your family pointed it out to you that you needed them. That's WING'S. It's a big store with lots of hats, sandals, t-shirts... Inventory for all ages. Very touristy. Decent customer service. All at prices that aren't too unreasonable given the store's close proximity to Ocean Beach. Didn't see the offensive souvenirs this visit that some other reviewers have mentioned. Perhaps I'm unobservant, but I'd like to think they're making some better decisions. Four or even five stars if I was more confident in that. A second location is tucked out of view on the south end of Belmont Park on Mission Beach. read more

Terrible processes, management, & customer service. Purchased an item and attempted to return it fewer than 10 minutes later (I found a more appropriate item next door) and was fed a "no returns" policy which wasn't stated at the time of purchase. Legitimately less than 10 minutes. I barely stepped foot out of the store. The manager wouldn't make an exception or void out the transaction and pointed me to a sign that said no returns (which I hadn't previously seen). My choice was to toss the item, or swap it out for a more expensive item. I feel scammed. read more

Wings Beachwear is one of those horrifically predictable tourist kitschy shops that you see in Everybeachtown, USA. It has towels, it has shirts that say "Someone in Ocean Beach Loves Me", it has magnets, it has postcards, it has bottles with messages inside. I donned my undercover tourist costume and went in one day, hoping none of my neighbors would catch me. And you know what? It has some cool stuff! *Groaaaan from the locals* I actually purchased a few things from this store: two random cute purses that were made in Bali, and a straw hat for my sister. My friend Megan bought two of those blow up circular tubes to go play with in the ocean, and we always have a hysterically tourist-emulating good time when we drag them to the beach and bob in the water like shark bait. I'm not sure if management or the owners even look at this but I sure hope they do. Brought my family here after it has been closed down for a few weeks now. Was really excited for them to get some San Diego gear.. But didn't realize they closed at 7. We had a solid 20 minutes so I thought that would be enough time. Well we were basically rushed out of there. Instead of greeting us we were told 'we close in 15 minutes'... Ok.... And the same lady told us every minute what time they were closing and she even locked the door 10 minutes EARLY!! I was so upset because they felt rushed and they were going to buy more stuff but couldn't!! Literally they were going to spend more money..... But couldn't. I have worked in retail my whole life and would never treat customers like that. And especially LOCK THE DOOR before closing so we had to wait for her to finish ringing a customer up to let us out! Dear Wings, I used to go to your stores to buy stuff for family before I would travel to see them, I would also bring them to your stores when they come to visit us - I will never be a customer again, nor will I recommend your stores simply because you appear to be more focused on making money than on making smarter business decisions and making an effort to be a good corporate citizen. Selling baby sharks is absolutely appalling. When you do the right thing you actually gain more customers and more business. That's not just an opinion, I have 25yrs in the marketing industry to know for a fact that it's true. This is really a great tourist shop. For those that complain, you've obviously never traveled to other beach towns and seen their dirty, disgusting, run down shops that sell crappier versions of the same merchandise. Wings is always clean, well stocked, and almost anyone can go in there and find that "I can't believe I've lived without this" item. My daughters and I only shop here for the hermit crabs and supplies. Wings has a better variety than almost all of the pet stores in the area. My only complaint is the staff. There is usually only two people working and they usually aren't the most friendly individuals. Improve on the customer service and Wings would be a gem among beach tourist towns. read more

I've seen lots of negative reviews, but I do have to say I had no issues at all! I walked in with a giant group whom all scattered. I was promptly helped when I needed help into a fitting room. A movie theater turned tourist trap. A warehouse of commercialisms. Beanie Ballz, candy dispensers, and buy 1 get 1 free offers greet you at the door. Some more observations follow. Mermaid princess toys, dolphin in a bag that says I heart whales, bright pastel colored shirts (see my photo). "Don't be crabby, you're at the beach" sign, candle in a coconut shell, and towels up to the ceiling. Alligator heads, coconuts fashioned into pirate heads, and live hermit crabs. Pop music is piped in throughout the store. A bag of shells for $2.99, sparkly hats for $3.99, and two shirts for eight bucks. I feel like I'm in a small airplane hangar. Flip flops for $3.98 and up, children's swimwear for 5.98 and up, and a rack of shirts for $1.98 and up. Signs announcing deals and savings decorate the walls and aisles. Genuine fossilized shark teethe, coconut bikinis, and cheap plastic water guns on clearance. There's sun screen if you need it. read more
