Don't waste your time. They hid items under the "three items we will take". I refused their offer and they seemed surprised. It ended up being FIVE items and a pair of converse was hiding under the jacket in the bin. Weirdly, the stuff they wanted to buy was the most beat up of all my items. They offered me $1 for a scuffed-up lululemon never lost keychain, but then refused to even make an offer on a $500 Dooney and Bourke florentine bag because of the "scratches". But then wanted to buy my matching Dooney wallet with a rip inside?? lol so confusing and a huge waste of time. Don't remember my purse having a (grease?) stain on it when dropping off. They were just piling bins on top of designer bags that don't belong to them. If you don't want careless teens tossing your items around, don't go! I came in for a quote not to lose value on my designer items! read more

The clothes are geared towards teen/YA for the most part. Great prices when you find the right thing..Last time I went they had a bunch- and I mean a bunch - of Kate Spade bags. Definitely worth going to for the right gems. Very friendly staff. Only issue: i would pull out a shirt, fall in love, find a stain. Multiple times. Saves my bank account though! read more

Staff was nice and the store is clean. Selling took about 25 min wait with nothing accepted due up all the items already being fully stocked. It would be nice if they had a system that showed what items that are not needing to avoid wasting the worker and client time but still worth the attempt if you have time to spare. read more

Have you heard of the Gen Z stare? I experienced it here. I'm not a mind reader so we can both stare at each other. I was told there is a 2 bags max to leave for review. I had 2 bags and shoes (not in bag). So she asked how many bags. I said the two bags. After I checked in that's when the staring started. I broke the stare off and said did you want me to put the bags in the bin? (I asked because I didn't know where I'm suppose to hand over these bags.) Then she replied with yea...then I said you know you could've just communicated that...then she said, I'm not sure which bags you wanted to leave. So then it went back to me saying the 2 bags that I have lol. Anyways not a pleasant experience but I guess the customer service expectation bar is low here. read more

Terrible experience coming in to sell. There was a long line at checkout so we went up to a male employee behind the counter and asked him where to go if we are selling and with out any eye contact he says "it's the same line". We waited in the long line just to be told by a female employee that we needed to check in to sell at the kiosk which happened to be right where the previous guy was standing. Such a waste of time and the lack of communication from the employee will prevent us from ever returning. read more

Heard about it from my daughter. Haven't shopped at a place like this since my 20s but decided to give it a try recently. At my first visit, I scored! As soon as I walked in the door and to the the right I found a Scotch & Soda denim jacket in GREAT condition. Brand new the jacket would have been over $100, I bought it for $15! Second visit, bought a bunch of stickers didn't find any clothes though. Will most likely update my review when/if I try selling clothes there. read more

As a pregnant woman of 30 weeks AND a first time customer, I had a really sad experience at this Plato's and I don't think I will return. I asked one of the male employees with glasses for help grabbing clothes off a mannequin, and he sent me to grab it myself without even acknowledging me through eye contact. I struggled to take it off and it made me feel very dismissed and unseen as a customer. read more

I was impressed by Plato's Closet San Diego's extensive selection of fashionable dresses and affordable prices, which made my shopping experience feel like a rewarding treasure hunt at a Clothes store near me. I got 2 pairs of denim shorts, 2 pairs of heels, a bikini, earrings, a few tops, and a couple dresses all for around $95! I think there were other items too but that's off the top of my head. I like Plato's closet bc it's hard to find bottoms in my size so it's one of the few places I can find a selection. This location had a lot of things in my size yay! read more

Do not sell your clothes here! They are extremely picky with what they buy and their prices are very high. They refused to give me the promised 15% off when trading in clothes and it seemed like their excuse was made up on the spot. Place is way too packed with little to no space to actually walk around. Friend tried to sell well known brands like Volcom, Hurley, Dickies, RVCA etc. no stains or anything and they said "too formal" they were flannels and t shirts mostly. I've visited this Plato's Closet location off Balboa Ave twice now with a couple of bags of clothes to sell, and both times I've had the same frustrating experience. After waiting in line, I was told they had stopped accepting items for the day because they'd reached their budget limit. This limit seems to vary day by day, and while I understand the need for budget management, it's still frustrating when I've taken the time to organize my clothes, load them into my car, and drive out here, just to be turned away. It makes me wonder though; If I had arrived earlier, would the last person to sell their items be offered a lower price just to stay within budget? I get the need for financial caution, but it's difficult to understand when I'm trying to sell high-quality brands like Anthropologie, Free People, and Lululemon, which are in excellent condition and often underrepresented on their racks. While I also have more common brands like Zara and H&M, are those really taking up a significant amount of space on their shelves that's often going their daily limit? From my experience, when they do take my items, the offers often feel too low or they only take in a few items due to seasonal demands/trends. So what exactly is their budget if it cuts off before 1 p.m. or earlier? Not every customer can make it in before noon, people have different schedules and limiting offers based on time feels unfair. Instead of a daily cap, this location would benefit from adjusting to at least a weekly budget limit to allow for more flexibility and fairness for all customers. At the very least, there should be a sign outside the store letting customers know when they are no longer accepting items. Additionally, there should be a designated area in the store for dropping off clothing to receive an offer. This would save time and prevent the frustration of waiting in line only to be asked, "Are you dropping off items to sell?" when it's already obvious that's the reason I'm there. Improved communication and better store organization would help minimize this inconvenience for everyone. I'm not sure if the store was understaffed, and while I understand the importance of maintaining a positive work environment, I did notice a few employees standing around chatting and laughing. When I finally reached the cashier, I was politely informed they weren't accepting items, but only after waiting in line behind a few customers, as the cashier appeared focused on the customer that's currently purchasing their items. I understand they have other responsibilities, but from my own work experience in retail, there needs to be a greater sense of urgency when attending to customers. I understand that businesses face challenges, especially with being short-staffed or managing budget constraints. But there are definitely areas for improvement to streamline the process and avoid frustrating customers. After all, Plato's Closet is built on reselling customers' clothes, but without taking our items, there's no business. Overall, the staff is polite and friendly, and the store itself is organized for the most part, but the system here could use some changes to improve efficiency and customer satisfaction. read more

Not worth coming here to sell your used clothes/shoes. I brought my items thinking I was at least going to get 2 bucks for each thing because they are still in great condition -- but nope! I got turned away because they seek "in style" items supposedly. I also noticed they mostly negate the items that individuals bring in to sell. Additionally, similar to what other reviewers mentioned, staff was somewhat unkind by making you feel as if you're interrupting them from what they're doing and try to usher you away as quickly as possible. Therefore, I believe hospitality skills can be an area of improvement so that customers can have the best experience possible. read more

Honestly I don't know how the entire staff is still working there. Haven't been in a couple months because everyone there is extremely rude. I love platos don't get me wrong but the workers have never been nice to me absolutely ever. Everyone looks at you weird sighs i even heard the workers talking badly about customers and other coworkers behind their backs last time i came. Its honestly disappointing HR or any higher ups don't do anything about it they have 0 customer service skills and the managers set a terrible example by being just as rude. Everyone i know has always had a running joke about how it must be on the application to be rude to customers 24/7. Everyone is miserable there. Had a pretty fun time browsing through the store here and overall enjoyed my time at Plato's. I noticed this location carried a lot of the following brands: Brandy Melville. Zara, Princess Polly and Urban Outfitters, to name a few. This Plato's is very well organized by clothing item, sizing and then color. It's easy to go straight for what you'd like and the variety of clothes makes for a great opportunity to kill time and just shop. I got myself a Brandy Melville skirt, UO skirt and H&M blouse all for $25. Not bad! I'd definitely like to come back and would recommend shoppers do the same :) read more
