I wish the cream was more of a custard but this was still banging and incredibly fresh Tiramisu 7.58/10- okay this was so good tbh I really loved the lady fingers in it and the chocolate was so rich in flavor. I normally enjoy frozen tiramisu and this was not cold granted I ate it like hours later but still fire Chocolate Mousse 8.79/10- I love chocolate mousse and I'm pretty picky about it but WOW this was absolutely divine. The chocolate tasted like it came from Switzerland- high quality fr Pistachio Apple Strudel 6.87/10- not a fan of the crystallized sugar it had but the apple jam was phenomenal and I loved the flakiness of the puff pastry. There's a spiral staircase leading to a quieter upstairs area where you can use laptops, while the first floor is laptop-free for a more laid-back atmosphere. This is really a 3.5 star place- it's 24/7 and with that comes a loss in quality. But it's a charming place perfect for students. We came in on a snowy rainy day. I love the positive, communal vibes here, it's open 24/7, but no matter what time you visit it feels like you're stepping outside of the passage of time for a while. They have an awesome wide selection of sweet and savoury baked goods (and I literally mean wide - the display case stretches across a whole wall and a half), and a smaller but interesting collection of sandwiches, as well as coffee, tea, and cider. I really enjoy all of their baked goods! Lots of unique flavour combos all around and portions are generous. The tofu walnut melt sandwich is also one of my favourite coffee shop sandwiches around. I think it's nice that the first floor is designated as laptop-free while the upstairs allows laptops, so you get to choose the experience you prefer. I feel like I've been going to Breka Bakery for as long as I can remember. When I used to live in Point Grey I was walking distance to this location. They are right next to the No Frills, but have their own unit. There are two levels here with a spiral staircase. Not only do they have amazing patisseries, they also have pastries, donuts, cookies, as well as savoury sandwiches and coffee. They're really a one stop shop cafe with spacious seating. This location can get busy and loud, but they have huge windows with lots of light coming in so it doesn't seem crowded. I also go for their single serving cakes and bring them to dinner parties or visiting friends and family. They are decently priced (not much more than if you were to buy it at Whole Foods or Stong's). Compared to other Patisseries in town, they definitely give good value for your money. read more

Great 24/7 bakery and cafe! Hubby and I have been going back to this location for weeks as they have a wide selection of baked goods, sandwiches and drinks to satisfy you. We love their donuts especially the dulce de leche donut with white chocolate glaze -- sweet and fluffy, perfect with coffee. Their coffee drinks are pretty good too and priced well. Sandwiches are tasty and grilled upon order and served with a pickle stick. Service is good, sometimes there's only one person at the register and making coffee so a queue can form and sometimes there's three people there - register, drinks and sandwiches. They have two floors of seating available -- ground floor where it is supposed to be a laptop free zone and the second floor where the bathrooms are and a wee bit more quiet. First time visiting this Breka location, and it's a whole different world than the one on Fraser! I loved how spacious, lively, and bright it was in here, and I really thought that the staircase and high ceiling at this location makes the whole place look very luxurious. The baked goods were lined and displayed clearly, and it allowed for me to easily choose what I want. My partner and I got the tiramisu and the Mediterranean panini and both were amazing!! The cake in the tiramisu was moist and soaked with flavour, but i just wished that there were more cake parts rather than the moussey parts. I didn't expect much from the panini because it just looked like a regular panini in the fridge, but I was pleasantly surprised at how cheesy and meaty the panini came out to be! This one on 4th Ave is on the smaller side, but has 2 floors (laptops are only permitted at the upstairs level and you'll have to make nice with your neighbors/fellow co-workers if you want a crack at one of the few power outlets). I've sampled from the sweet and savory sides of their pastry cases, with overall positive but mixed results. A savory pastry with chicken and an apricot glaze can be served warm and is a very rich indulgence, with delicious puff pastry, however the chicken itself is quite salty, and tastes more of the pressed mass-market variety than quality small batch prepared. Their donuts are all the yeast type, so if cake-style is your thing, be advised. I've tried the chocolate custard, and found the chocolate frosting on top to be especially delightful and robust in chocolaty flavor. The Long John is a plain rectangular donut with the same chocolate frosting, but the lack of filling makes it a bit doughy and monotonous to eat. In both quality and price (i.e. $2.25 per donut), they are somewhere in the middle between the spectrum of Tim Horton's on the low end and a Lucky's or Cartem's on the high end. European specialties like apple strudel look incredible in their cases, but I've yet to venture into this territory. read more

Main reason for visiting Breka is because it's one of the few places in Vancouver open 24/7, so every time I've gone has been very late at night. What they serve is okay. Personally, I believe that many of their baked goods and pastries are far too sweet. Additionally, they're rather sparse on their fillings for sandwiches and such. Their Mango Passionfruit mousse is good but could improve with a tad less sugar. They offer a large selection and variety of food-things which is nice. I absolutely love Breka and have been coming to many of their locations for the past few years and the quality had been consistent and great. However, today I decided to try their Lemon Tart since they've discontinued their Lemon Oat Bars which were PERFECTION. The Lemon Tart was way way too sour, to the point where I found the tart just inedible, I felt like a baby trying lemon for the first time it was so sour it tasted like a warhead candy. I had to scoop the filling off to enjoy the buttery tart shell itself. I also got their new item, the cake pop I got it in a cappuccino flavour, it tasted good but the cake was too doughy, I was hoping more for a bit of a bite and crumbly texture. I also asked for a classic croissant and got an almond croissant which I did not want since I wanted something not sweet. I was in Vancouver for work and needed breakfast before heading to the airport back home. It was Saturday morning and most places were closed until 9 or 10am. But not Breka! I found myself thankful too not only for serving food early but by having a luscious selection of goods? While I went with a beautiful and heated savory, I could have easily gotten lost in their baked goods: The puff pastries alone will not only set you back a thousand calories but the bliss factor with just one bite will send you to the moon and back. Indeed, one person there swears by the Bear Claws which are not only substantial, they look enough to satisfy you for the day! I actually live near the Fraser location but that location is small and always packed. This one on W. 4th is a lot bigger and there is an upstairs. The ground floor, they ask that you don't use your laptops as they want people to actually interact with your friends or others. Upstairs is where they want you to use your laptops, so if you come, you will see everyone upstairs, staring at the laptop screen. The coffee is good, it's not any trendy or hipster style. I was recommended by my coworker to try this place since it is a 5 minute drive to my work. I went inside in the morning around 9:15am I was welcomed by the aroma of bread, cakes and pastries . The location is so clean and tidy and the servers were so awesome! I ordered a Mediterranean Panini and a raspberry donut. Their seat looked so comfy so I decided to stay inside and see how the customers and servers interacted. By the time i took my first bite of my raspberry donut I realized that there were about 8 people already lining up to ask for something! Can't wait to come back here again.
