I revisited Melo Patisserie for gathering. It was very busy on public holiday afternoon and many items were already sold out. I got Matcha latte and Melo's passion ganache. Matcha latte was decent. I could taste strong matcha flavor, sweetness was light, however, it paired nicely with cake, so, it was pretty good. Cake was delicious. Chocolate ganache was rich and bold. This place is so cute.. oh my goodness! It's kinda hidden in a side street (this place is definitely a definition of a 'hidden gem'). Very casual but also has the vibe of a place you'd go to for 'high tea' for example. I tried the matcha drink and absolutely loved it. read more

Had a small dinner at a gastropub nearby just so I could leave room for dessert. Boy was I in for a treat! I had the Bananut Croissant and a Mount Coffee Mousse cake paired with Iced London Fog and a black iced tea. The Mount Coffee mousse cake was the star of the show. It was creamy, just melted in your mouth, and had the perfect balance of sweetness to counter the bitterness of the coffee. The choconut croissant had a beautiful lamination but I think next time I will go for a simpler flavor as the chocolate hazelnut and banana was a lot going on. Another bakery near my place, Melo Patisserie is a very underrated shop tucked away in Mt. Pleasant area. While space is a bit limited, I love how feminine and flowery their decorations are, with the design changing every few months based on the season/occasions. Service can be a bit slow due to limited staff, but they've always been friendly and accomodating to my requests. I've rarely heard people recommending their croissants, but it's definitely one of the best in town. Sadly stocks are quite limited and they don't even make the double baked ones everyone. Do call them ahead of times if you are planning on getting the almond ($7) or bananuts ($7) croissants. Croissants are always perfectly golden and buttery without being burnt. Their layers are beautiful with nice crisp while still being soft inside. Normally I would always prefer almond croissant, but for me the bananuts is actually the highlight from Melo. The banana, hazelnut, and chocolate make such a nice flavour combination. The almond croissant is also excellent, with generous almond on top and just the right amount of filling. I called the night before (near their closing time) and they were able to accommodate my request to pick up the cake the next day! Amazing service. The cake was so delicious. If you like pistachio, this is definitely a must try. The passion fruit's tart flavour balances out the richness and creaminess of both the chocolate and pistachio. Didnt plan on stopping by here today but after being social media influenced, I happened to be in the area this afternoon and grabbed a few of their individual desserts for my mom's birthday tonight. We went with : Lemon Mousse Cake - very lemony with a light mousse dome that had a layer of cake on the inside as well as some lemon cream. I was expecting it to be heavier but it was light and bright. Passionfruit Ganache - a surprising delight with chocolate sponge, passionfruit ganache in the middle and milk chocolate mousse. We really liked the subtle flavour of passionfruit that melded so well with the sweet milk chocolate. Again, the mousse was light and delicious. Black Forest - layers of chocolate cake, chocolate cream and cherries. A dark chocolate compared to the passionfruit ganache but it went perfectly with the cherries. I really liked their cake too as it wasnt too dense. Overall, a wonderful little shop to grab pastries. It is definitely on the higher end for pricing and parking in the area is extremely unpleasant but their cakes make up for it! read more

Cute little place which is very welcoming. Parking is very hard to find here so maybe it caters more to people living and working in the hood. Or if you take transit. Do try it if you are in the area. It has a small menu for breakfast and sandwiches/salads but prices are fair and food is good. I tried the blackforest ham and Brie croissant sandwich. It was a simple ham and cheese sandwich which was made to order. The croissant was flaky delicious and the Brie made it so yummy. I liked how salad was an optional add on for $2. Sometimes you just do not want your greens. I also had the flat white and financier. The financier was nice. The flat white was more like a cafe au lait, there was hardly any microfoam. It was good though, smooth with no acidic aftertaste. I will just get regular latte or something. I will definitely want to come back to try the cakes which look so good. Ordered some cakes for pick up. We tried the passionfruit chocolate cake, coffee cake and black forest cake. The passionfruit chocolate cake tasted somewhat one dimensional. It was also on the sweeter side. I liked the additional layer of passionfruit. It added the freshness to it. But the rest of the cake layers tasted very average. Wouldn't order this cake again. The coffee cake was a crowd pleaser. It wasn't overly sweet. It had a good amount of coffee flavour. It tasted almost like a coffee pudding. Very soft, smooth and supple. You won't get sick of this cake. The black forest was probably our least favourite. It didn't have much cherry or liquor flavour to it. Tasted more like a chocolate cake than a black forest. Would definitely recommend the coffee cake. I would want to go back and try their croissants etc as they look delicious. read more

Came here on a Monday around lunch because the pictures on Google had looked good. Sadly it didn't live up to my expectations. It's not what I would think of as a French/European bakery. There weren't that many baked goods as options and the mousses available all looked "American", and like they would be fairly sweet. I ordered the "Chocolate passion ganache" (dense chocolate fruit mousse with raspberry topping). I asked to eat it there and was hoping to just get my pastry on a plate. But I was told that I need to go sit down and they would bring me my food (literally just one item). Because there were other customers in line, it took a while for me to get my single item brought out, which was a small inconvenience. And while this isn't the shop's fault, as I was waiting to eat at one of the outside tables (which do have umbrellas), some construction workers just 50 meters away began jackhammering through asphalt, creating a lot of noise and unpleasant smell. So I didn't want to linger. This made the additional wait time very unpleasant. The passion ganache itself was fine. Texture was like a dense mousse. The passionfruit flavor was pretty light. It mostly tasted like chocolate. The raspberry topping was weirdly thick and sticky, like too much gelatin had been cooked in; It was very difficult to cut with a metal fork and didn't have a great mouthfeel. They recently opened (soft opening) and I was curious to see if this place would standout from the many other "fancy" bakeries. A beautifully decorated space but the food itself was uninspiring. The cookies and dessert looked impressive but fell short in taste. I would have expected something more impressive from the chocolate chip cookie. I have had better cookies at whole foods (not shading whole foods) and cakes else where. I had one bite of the cookie and it honestly felt like a generic cooking you could pick up at a gas station, prepackaged. I didn't bother finishing it because it wasn't worth the calories. The cake looked impressive but if you look at the video I took, the shell/casing was too gelatinous for my taste and it was off putting. The macaron was fine. They had a lot of cupcakes which looked so odd as the other desserts look very refined. I'll stick with my go to cake/pastry places. Teas I believe are from tealeaves. It looks like their desserts are featured at a neighbouring restaurant, mangia. If I ever have their desserts again it will likely be there. A hidden gem in the Mount Pleasant neighborhood! This newly opened patisserie is located on 8th st and Main st They have a few tables inside the cafe and outside. The decor is open, clean, and bright, which reminds me of Paris. This is currently their soft opening so their baked goods will sell out quickly. I came in at noon and the butter croissants were already sold out. Today they had on on their display case: financiers, individuals cakes, cupcakes, macarons and quiche I tried their chocolate croissant ($4.50) and it was pretty good! The croissant had a generous amount of chocolate, and it was quite soft but flaky. I wanted to keep going back for another bite. The croissant size was perfect and it didn't taste to sweet! I've been hearing Melo's name pop up for at least months now. So finally, I discovered it was close by and dropped by the location. Let's say, it was a perfect sunny day and was the excellent choice! The staff were so friendly and the option to sit outside and enjoy the heat or inside for some cooling down from the sun was such a great option! The lady behind the register made the choices easy for me, since the menu was extremely huge and to pick my favourite! Finally, we settled on ham and cheese with salad and a side of Mochamelo. I took my first bite and realized it's been a good few years since I had a proper ham and cheese sandwich. This was phenomenal! The flavours were distinct and full of flavour! I washed down the food with the iced Mochamelo! Yummy! Thick chocolate and ice relieved me of my thirst! Overall, the food and the staff were so welcoming! It's a 5/5 for me! Melo Patisserie pastries are DIVINE. I am so happy to have this delectable bakery in my neighbourhood! Is this a little pricy? Not really, everything is made with care and attention to detail. Croissants are buttery and crisp without being burnt - my favourite (if it hasn't sold out) is the bananuts croissant which includes banana paste, caramelized hazelnuts in a croissant that has so many beautiful layers of shattering, crisp pastry. In the absence of bananuts, I'd order the almond croissant. Every thing is made with real butter and it has that flavour and texture that just makes you smile - I also love the cute bistro seating outside. read more

I watch a LOT of fancy baking competitions on TV (and drool. I have celiac disease so I have never found a spot that does perfect French pastries that I can try. MELO DOES THOUGH. If memory serves at least 5-6 of their cakes are gluten free. (I accept & understand the cross contamination risk.) I have tried three so far and they are all spectacular. I also tried a London Fog and it was sweet but the best one I have ever ordered out. Very friendly staff, quaint decor and a few tables outside. I was in complete shock when I picked up the birthday cake this past weekend. I saw it in the display case at the bakery and couldn't believe it was the one. Melo Patisserie is one of my favourite cafes to visit in Vancouver. It's super close to my gym so I love coming here after exercising, and especially on Sundays after a workout to grab a fresh latte and to read my book here. All the workers here are very sweet and I love the interior of the cafe. So beautifully decorated with all the china dishes hung up on the wall! Everything here gives you such a luxurious and fine dining vibe but in actuality, it's very warm, welcoming and friendly. I also always love their fresh flower arrangements on every table - so beautiful! Lately I've been super into their lattes. In this photo I ordered a plain latte along with a butter croissant. Super simple yet delicious. I also couldn't help but order a ham and brie cheese croissant later too LOL. It was lunch and I was hungry LATTE Soo creamy and simple, but done right. I forgot to order this with oat milk and realized this afterwards.. oopsies. BUTTER CROISSANT So buttery, flakey, soft and delicious. These are one of the better croissants here in Vancouver and I love them! BRIE AND HAM CROISSANT SANDWICH It takes a bit linger for them to prepare this but it's soo worth the wait. We always try different cafes every Saturday after a walk. Today was Melo Patisserie. The location is easy to get to, the parking easy minus the pay part. The restaurant inside is very intimate and cosy. The service at the till was poor. She greeted all 5 of us whom probably spent $10-$20 each this morning with a very poor demeanor. I thought it was just me, but each of my friends, turned to me and said did you just experience that. The person whom delivered our water and took away our dishes, was good. The person at the till delivered our food and everyone got theirs except for me. My friend had to ask for mine as he could see that if I went up there, it might have been a negative reaction. Is it too hard to ask for good customer service? We say please and thanks yet, we get eye rolls or cold, stale interaction. I saw others walk and look dumbfounded as the interaction she gave them too was the same. If you don't want to work there, then I suggest find another job as you sincerely didn't want to be there today. Otherwise the food and beverages were very yummy. read more

Really cute cafe just off the corner of Main and Broadway. They usually have a great selection of fresh baked scones, pastries and cakes as well as quiche and sandwiches. Their tea selection is a little small but quality is great, and they have a beautiful set of teapots to serve you in. Coffee is also delicious and quite smooth. Service is excellent, and they bring you some water as well, which is pretty rare in most Vancouver cafes where you often have to get it yourself. It is also very dog friendly and they have a bowl outside in case your pup is thirsty. Decor and atmostphere is really nice. Right now they have some fall-themed decorations that make the interior feel nice and cozy, especially when its rainy outside. The slow jazz and string music in the background makes you feel like you're sipping coffee in a Parisian cafe. Melo is a gorgeous new patisserie right off Main St. The service is absolutely amazing, everyone is so sweet and helpful and when they bring your treats out they decorate the plate meticulously. There are about 4 tables inside and it was so nice to have the option to sit and enjoy our treats and drinks. Honestly I hate having to not give this 5 stars, but the pastries we tried while technically great, were all more or less one note. The choco melo was all just chocolate, the lovely lemon was all lemon, and the coffee - well you can guess. That doesn't mean they weren't tasty, they just were exactly what they said and I love to be surprised. If you like a pure flavor, this is the place for you! I still will probably return to try some other pastries as I've heard the black forest (which was sold out) is really great! French and Fabulous. So I stumbled upon this place when I googled Mello donuts. I ended up at the wrong place but decided to go inside. Oh it is so beautiful in here. I would definitely meet up with a friend for coffee and a treat. It's a great environment. They specialize in french desserts. I decided to get a croissant because it's so hard to find a good one in the city. This was perfection. Crispy, flaky, buttery and soft on the inside. I wish I could indulge in one everyday! Their desserts also look more elegant than the local bakeries, not to knock my favourites. Apparently, their chocolate dome is the most popular but I have an eye on the lemon one. We love their croissants very much but their business needs to manage their inventory better. Went there today, placed an order, and paid but they still manage to double sell it from under me. After selecting a replacement item they begrudgingly returned the difference of the items while making us feel like we were at fault. A very negative experience, will not return/recommend. When a business makes a mistake they usually have two options for restitution; make a loyal customer that returns, or lose them, I can't fathom why they chose the latter. read more
