I stumble across this place and decided to give it a try as I am always looking for good cafes to study and work in. The atmosphere here is perfect for studying, catching up with a friend, working or simple just enjoying a coffee alone. The music is not too loud, which make a huge different when trying to focus on work and there is lots of seating - not to mention the seating here is very comfortable. I ordered the Turkey sandwich which took all of two minutes to disappear into my stomach! A big bonus is that drink sizes are generous and prices are very reasonable which is always appreciated. there is really nothing positive to say about this establishment. the coffee was bitter, the cheese scone was small and dry and the service was the worst I've had in a coffee shop. I asked for the cheese scones to be warmed and the server put both baked goods in a bag on the counter the scone did not feel warm. he stuck his arm out and directed me to a microwave. I asked for butter and a knife and was curtly told he didnt have butter. I ask for a napkin and again he brusquely pointed across the cafe to where I could help myself to a napkin. Cute cafe with plenty seats inside and out. Not to mention the decors are kinda eclectic. Fresh bakery everyday. I got a butter croissant, which in my opinion, was the most buttery and soft croissant I tasted in a long while. And the price isn't too bad either...only $2.99. the smoothie was a bit of a disappointment - I thought it was a bit diluted and very expensive for how it turned out. I never been to Willow Café until my friend told me that they changed the owner in Fall and the bakery and pastries are pretty good. Sure! Just go and check it out. When I went there on Friday late afternoon, they have no customer there. I guessed the owner (Chinese man) checking around and briefing the staffs. The staff was friendly and told us the bakery made daily freshly. We got a brewed coffee and chocolate mousse cake to go. I found the coffee was a bit old and chocolate mousse cake too sweet and barely taste chocolate flavour. Hope they can survive for long. read more

I live just around the corner from Willow Café Bakery, and I've become a regular just to go buy their cookies! Honestly I'm really picky when it comes to ginger snaps and snickerdoodles as they're my favourites, but Willow Cafe absolutely nails it!! They come in a 6-pack, are less than $5, and are the perfect chewy consistency. The service is always 10/10 - friendly greeting, light conversation, sooo polite - and it makes me eager to go back :) read more

This cafe is a block from me so I've been a regular customer for 10 years over the 2 ownership and name changes. It's a good, quiet coffee shop. I've walked past this little neighbourhood café many times over the past few years but only recently had a chance to actually come in for some hot beverages in a rainy Vancouver day. As previous reviewers have mentioned, it has been renovated to accommodate a baking station in the back and their in-house made breads and pastries are easily viewable for the choosing. They also had some samples of coffee cake when I was there, which were light and delicious and not too sweet. My chai latte was also well balanced in flavour with an authentic cardamom aroma (take note Starbucks!). The owners are friendly and the space is cozy with free wifi available for customers. A good place to start writing the Next Great Canadian Novel....or to read it. read more

Well, how cute are you Cafe Willow Bakery?? After different owners of this space in the past few years, I'm thinking you will rock! Staff was wonderful and friendly, explaining that the baked goods were made daily. I tried the chocolate expresso muffin ($2.49), and so tasty. Actually, everything looked fresh and delicious. :) Good price point as well. You can also watch the people make the goods, which I LOVE. Lots of inside seating, and a few seats outside. Has a bit of everything. I especially like their pastries and their chai tea. Kids are welcome, and there's a little corner a bit separated where you can corral them. The staff was perfectly pleasant, my daughter is practicing paying on her own and they were polite and patient with us. No waiting for anything. read more

We've been here a few times in the past month. Different owners from what used to be a coffee house back in the late 90's. They've done some good things here. For Coffee and teas, it's about what you should expect. Nothing new here. What they do have is freshly baked goods that they make in the kitchen that they built. Nice friendly service, but we always seem to arrive when they're about to close, so we can't really sit and enjoy a tea. We'll have to remember to come earlier! read more

Went there last week and ordered a small London Fog and a cookie. I think the drink was about $3.65 or thereabouts. So the younger guy charges me something like $4.65 for the London Fog. I pointed to the chalkboard and said: "The board says the price is $3.65 for the small size," and the guy proceeds to tell me that that's a mistake and they just haven't gotten around to erasing it. I should have pushed the point and told him that they should honor the price that's quoted on the menu, but I didn't. My bad. But really, what I should have said is "I'll pay the extra dollar for the drink but I won't ever be coming back here again, AND I'll be Yelping about this!" Terrible customer relations if you ask me. And on principle, I won't go back there. Skip this place. read more

I've been in here twice and LOVE the coffee. You can tell they are still trying to figure things out but the owners are very kind and the coffee is fantastic. My go-to is the mocha. The owner tells me they get "expensive hotel coffee" which made me chuckle. Whatever it is, I like it. The first time I wandered by and realized this is no longer a Java Hut, I stepped in to give it a chance. I like to support local family businesses when possible and this area is overrun with coffee chains. The gentleman behind the counter talked me into trying the chicken tahchin (basically rice, saffron, chicken and yogurt baked together) and I was surprised by how tasty this was. A bit pricey at 6.95 but very good and definitely unique. It was so big I couldn't even finish it. The setting is nice and simple and they seem to have a group of regulars who hang out and read the newspaper or peer at their laptops. After I had my food, the family all sat down and ate together at the next table but still made sure to come by and take my plate and ask how I liked the food. I felt like I was eating in someone's kitchen in another country. You won't find that experience in a Starbucks! Definitely give this place a try. read more

Stumbled across this place on my way to the Apple Fest. Was looking for some caffeine and a quick bite, and I am so glad I decided to take 16th. I couldn't help myself when I saw the beautiful butter tarts, and ended up with a pumpkin tart, some shortbread cookies and a croissant. The pumpkin tart is why I am taking the time to write this. The edges had the perfect crisp, but the base maintained the soft, chewy texture that I love. I wish I had impulse bought a few extra, but I will definitely be going out of my way to come back and try the rest of them! Sidebar: I disagree with Joanne M's review on the aesthetics. Thought the shop was cute and I find it a bit pretentious of her to tell a shop that it is hindering the beauty of the neighbourhood - get over yourself. I sincerely doubt that you have contributed in any way to the look of the street, and these guys have contributed some wonderful pastries to the area. Further, your shallow 2 star review had nothing to say about the actual products, and is bringing their rating down. How about you actually eat the food before sticking your nose up at it? read more

We have ordered some baked goods for take out. We have tried - banana chocolate chip muffins - blueberry bran muffins - cranberry orange muffins - apple blue berry pound cake - chocolate croissant - almond croissant We were very impressed with all of these. Service was great. You can ask for a punch card so that on your 9th visit, you get a free coffee; 18th visit, you get a free small pastry. Everything is fresh, with wholesome ingredients, AND they TASTE GREAT. We enjoyed these more than the baked goods we bought from Whole Foods (which might be better for you, but who care if they're so dry that you don't end up eating it). read more

This place is cozy, the staff is friendly; and the food is made right on-site by the a very experienced Chef. The coffee is delicious and the Owner took a long time to balance the flavor of the roast used. They have an all-day breakfast for a very reasonable price. The croissants melt in your mouth; the wraps are tender and tasty; and the homemade bread they sell is fantastic. These Owners have built this place into what it never was before.....they deserve far more credit than Joanne M gave them in July. It's NOT an eye sore....it's a comfort zone with calm, tastefully-chosen music, and comfortable ambiance. I love having this place in my neighbourhood. The cafe has the best croissants that I've found in this part of town. They bake everything in-house, and I believe the owner is trained in classical French baking. Otherwise, it's a cosy neighbourhood place to enjoy a cup of coffee, glad it's so close to my apartment. read more
