The Cochinita Pibil here is one of the tastiest meats I've ever had. The salsas (light green and red) combine to perfection. Both are very spice, the green is the queen, and the one to apply liberally. As I said, the star item and the reason I keep coming back is the utterly incredible Torta de Cochinita Pibil. It's only five or six dollars which is ridiculous considering it's the best one you'll ever eat. They use a little bolillos. Some of their other tortas come on Telera Bread, which is wonderful too, but not like that little luscious bolillo. Service is lovely and prices are insanely cheap. Every other restaurant is doubling or tripling in price, understandably so. Bala remains a dirt-cheap bargain and the best Mex food in Texas! Barbi Barbieri says: "Anything with pibil is delicious! Don't let the other reviews fool you. I thought it was weird that it got 3.5 stars from yelp, but 4.4 from Google. Something must be off because this place is great! The staff was kind in taking my order, and the food came out hot and delicious. The prices ($1.40 per taco?!) are amazing to boot. I've tried this spot twice for takeout. During this pandemic, they didn't allow dine in. They have plexiglass to protect employees and customers. The staff wore masks as well. My favorite here was their barbacoa tacos with onions, cilantro, and lime. I always opt for corn tortillas because I find them more fragrant. The barbacoa meat was moist and delicious as well. They have two different sauces that can go with their tacos: green or red. But, I always choose the green avocado sauce because it's creamy and spicy. The heat keeps building as you keep eating it. My family got their fajita tacos with flour tortillas. But, I found their meat more dry and tortillas not as fragrant. They enjoyed the spicy red sauce with their tacos. In addition, we did try their huge burrito. But, it had more fillers in them, like refried beans, veggies, and rice. In my opinion, I'd rather taste more meat. So, I'll just stick with their tacos. Probably the cheapest and tastiest Tex-Mex foods the Mrs and I had in Houston in several years. We had street tacos ( trompo & conchinita pibil ) at $1.45 each, trompo burrito at $4.25, and large shrimp soup at $7.99. Everything were seasoned well and all tasted great. Those prices were ridiculous low for Houston. This shack did not short changed us in proteins to cover the low prices. This place has the best tostadas!!! They give a generous amount of meat and load it up on veggies, a slice of avocado and feta cheese. I've tried their tacos and I really didn't like it as much. Their service is okay not like a restaurant it more of a self serve. staff isn't really happy and friendly that's why it's a 4 star. Great little spot for tacos in an area that doesn't have a whole lot of restaurants. They have the standard taqueria menu items. I came for lunch on a weekday and chose the beef fajita, trompo and cochinita pibil tacos. All were good but I liked the last two the best. As far as salsas, I preferred the green salsa in the squirt bottle on the table the best. Also ordered a large jamaica drink and it was pretty good, priced the same as other taquerias. The restaurant also sells sopes, tortas, chalupas, quesadillas, and burritos. This is a nice alternative to fast food or jack in the box tacos. read more

Heard a lot of good reviews about this place so we went and tried one day! My sister got the beef tongue taco which was new to us, but it was pretty good. The only complaint is the service, but I can't expect anything more. We are Asian after all. The lady didn't even make eye contact with us while we were ordering, paying, or receiving the food. You have to try their sauces too. They have the typical green and red sauces, but they have also made their own topping that stands out from any other Mexican restaurant. I'm not sure what's in it, but I like it. I spoon it out and top it on my tacos every time I stop in there. The staff speaks English, so don't be scared to go up to order or ask them questions lol. So if you're hungry and looking for amazing tacos this is the place to go. They had the most amazing red and green sauce on the table and salsa verde in a bowl on the table made fresh. Have fun with the sauces and if you like great authentic flavor a you're in for a great surprise. I think the best part of the experience was not only the tacos but the Spanish soap opera adds a lot more fun to the place lol. Best tacos de tripita that ive tasted! The flavor is authentifc from the menudo, to the tacos and tortas. This is my husbands and I go to restaurant when we are craving Mexican food. I love their fajita burritos and the best part is that its only less than $4. Their tacos are good and so are their tortas. The only thing that I dont recommend is their pupusas. What the Hell is a Trompo??? If I had to take a guess, I would say that the Greeks invented it to constantly rotisserie (is that a verb?) that tasty roll of blended Gyro meat. Later other gourmet countries surrounding the Mediterranean made adjustments on it and stacked chicken, beef and lamb pieces for other tasty treats that either went into a bun or a pita. Now Central Americans have used this efficient way to grill meat and turned it into the perfect "al Pastor". I don't know the exact influence, but Tacos La Bala 3 is more than just a taqueria. There is a tremendous and tasty Salvadoran touch to all of the food. It's located next to the HEB Superstore on Beechnut just off of Beltway 8.
