After many trips to Metuchen and lots of walks up and down Main St, I finally stopped in to try Bread Awakening! I am usually on the hunt for a cafe where I can stay awhile and get some work done, and while this spot may not be perfect for that exact reason, I am still so happy to have this added to my list of great Metuchen spots. A coworker and I grabbed a table outside on a beautiful day, ordered some food, and while those were coming out, got to work. The waitress was lovely and got us the wifi password no problem. It worked perfectly even outside. The menu is such a wonderful mix of traditional breakfast and lunch items as well as some delicious looking, sounding (and tasting) Mexican dishes. I got the Balsamico wrap which was grilled chicken, mozzarella, roasted peppers, and sundried tomato pesto. It was DELICIOUS but much cheesier and decadent than I expected. I managed to get through half. It comes with either home fries or a salad and I of course went the home fries route. So so yummy. Those did not make it to the doggie bag. The space is big with lots of tables both inside and out. The service is wonderful and quick and the food is fantastic. Give them a try! read more

Food was fine overall. I ordered the pisa panini with a side potatoes. The sandwich tasted good overall, but the bread got pretty soggy because it was in the foil and the bread was thin. I also thought the potatoes were seasoned very heavily with an unfamiliar spice that I can't quite name, but I didn't think it went well with my sandwich. The red velvet pancakes were a bit too sweet, but my friends seemed to enjoy the omelette and red velvet pancakes overall! Service was also quick and very friendly. read more

Brewed Awakening has a nice location and a cozy atmosphere, but the overall experience needs improvement. The kitchen is small, and it feels like they're understaffed -- which affects both service and the opportunity to upsell meals or drinks. We waited for a table, as did several others, but when one opened up outside, a couple seated themselves and the staff just let it slide, even though others were clearly waiting. On top of that, we were charged for toast even though it was supposed to be included with the meal. It's a small detail, but it speaks to the need for better attention to both service and billing. With more staffing and better management of the dining experience, this place could really shine. read more

Ambiance: Really cozy and warm place with vibrant decor. I loved the large pieces of wall art. Food: Caramel Chiller (4/5), Latte (4/5), Canella Berry Waffle (5/5), Eggs Bendict w/ fries (3/5). The eggs benedict was okay (better with Hollandaise Sauce and Ketchup) and came with a side of fries. However these fries were actually just soft and small potato slices, which was disappointing. I went to Brewed Awakening with my boyfriend, and this place was fantastic! The moment we walked in, we were seated right away. The atmosphere was calm and cozy, and the service was prompt. our server was extremely nice and attentive the entire time. We started with a chai matcha and an iced coffee, then ordered a strawberry banana smoothie and a mango smoothie. For food, we had the chorizo la papa and the bacon, egg, and French toast. Everything was absolutely delicious! The food came out quickly, everything was fresh, and the flavors were perfect. We left completely satisfied. Went to Brewed Awakening after looking for breakfast spots in Metuchen. Service was pretty quick, as we were seated immediately. Our waiter was kind and attentive throughout our meal. I got the huevos rancheros, and they were phenomenal. The chorizo was seasoned to perfection, and paired perfectly with the fried egg and tortilla. It was also served with home fries. I would definitely recommend ordering something off the Mexican breakfast menu, which includes the huevos rancheros. While in Metuchen today I came across this establishment for a quick bite to eat. I also noticed the frozen matcha sign outside so of course had to try. We were greeted and we opted to sit outside on this beautiful day. I didn't really get a good look inside however seemed to be a good amount of people there also while we were outside people were definitely coming in. The service was good and the outside seating was good. We opted to split something and when it came out our server put it on two separate plates which was nice I appreciated that. The food was good. Chicken panini and some home fries. They also have a pretty decent menu from what I saw. If you are in the area definitely check them out. read more

Cute interior with plenty of seating. BUT what stood out most was the horrible service. It was extremelyyyyy slow. We waited ~45 minutes for our food and the restaurant was maybe 50% full. The waiter had an attitude too. My brother is allergic to walnuts and when my mom asked him, double checking if the walnuts were on the side, he said "I mean, you can look at it and not see any." He also didn't come to check in on us or refill our waters. Then when we specifically asked for more water, he grabbed a pitcher from ANOTHER TABLE and put it on our table. Like what??! I got an iced flat white with oat milk (extra 0.75 for alternative milk) and it was okay. Big cup, but a little too creamy for my taste. Food was pretty good and decent portion sizes. They put a lot of pesto on the panini though the side of home fries was pretty dismal. The home fries were also overcooked/mushy and bland. The balsamic glaze that came with the salad tasted a bit strange but the pepper sauce on the table was good. There was a good amount of chicken in the salad and the cranberries/walnuts were nice toppings. Will likely not be back due to how poor the service is. This place has changed for the better. It's in the heart of Metuchen township. My to go place. I will say that perhaps it's under new management. They did a great job with a little uplift. Finally making a review because WOW they fire. Awesome service and food for dine in . But literally always fast coffee and it's Easter Sunday. Place is aesthetic as well. They made the coffee in front of my while i was ordering literally did not even have time to go on my phone they made it so fast was expecting to wait a few minutes because I was waiting for food down the street as well (shoutout Bonneys they fire too), but I didnt even get a chance to BREATHE it was that fast. Brewed Awakening was a blessing in disguise. We stumbled upon this place after trying to visit the busy restaurant around the corner. Their wait was non-existent for a table of 9 so we figured to try another place and we luckily got a table at brewed awakening. They were able to accommodate us as a party of 9. The place is a bit small, but I think it's supposed to be a small cafe. They have a full menu for food so we ended up getting a couple of breakfast dishes and pancakes. The coffee is great as well. This spot has stood the test of time since I was kind growing up in this town, and for good reason. It's a local coffee and breakfast establishment that still churns out great food. Our waiter was super generous with the hot sauce, so props to him! Eating outside in the summer sounds like a good idea, but when the blazing heat is recooking your eggs, you may need to reconsider since there aren't any awnings or coverings on the sidewalk. Saturday lunch crowd was busy. Luckily, only had to wait 10 minutes for a table. Nothing truly original that popped out of the menu just the classics. I do like being able to choose between a salad or potatoes as a side. I got the vegetarian Piso Panini with a side salad. Super cute little place we stumbled on while in town. We originally were trying for another place literally around the corner but it was a 90 minute wait and we were too hungry and didn't have time for that! Quick google search for breakfast nearby and just went around the corner. Our server was quick to greet us and sat us in the chairs and couch by the window. Stopped in here to get breakfast as we were both in the area. They have lots of items on the menu, including some Mexican style breakfast dishes. I went for an egg and cheese on a ciabatta roll and my husband also ordered a breakfast sandwich and coffee cake. Services is very good staff friendly I would've eaten here, but I think they just recently cleaned so it smelled like bathroom or stinky mop. We ate our breakfast at home and it was delicious. If I were in the area again, I'd probably try another item from their menu again. there's lots of street parking available on the side street and the main street. Ever since one of my friends highly recommended Brewed Awakening for brunch, I have been meaning to go for months. I finally got the chance to visit by getting brunch with a friend on Saturday. I was worried that there would be a long wait as there often is with Hatch 44 down the street. Thankfully, there were plenty of open tables and we were seated immediately. We had the mango smoothie and iced chai for drinks and for food, we got the sweet treat banana split with sausage and poached eggs and the canella berry waffle with Taylor ham and sunny side up eggs! The mango smoothie was pleasantly large and piled with whipped cream, but I will admit that I was expecting it to be presented in a mason jar as seen on the menu. Regardless, it was deliciously mango-y and very refreshing. We also thoroughly enjoyed our food -- the banana split consisted of French toast topped with whipped cream and sprinkled with strawberries, blueberries, and bananas finished with a chocolate drizzle. The waffle was similarly topped with strawberries, blueberries and whipped cream. There was a cinnamon stick in the middle of the whipped cream which was interesting, but I feel that a chocolate wafer stick would have been a better choice. However, our food was amazing! The service was really great and attentive and we were regularly checked on. They also kindly let us stay for over three hours without kicking us out, which I greatly appreciated. Very tasty brunch! It was a classic two egg platter and it was a good portioned amount of food. I really enjoyed all the components and it was a more refreshing stay to the home fries and white bread of other restaurants. Service was also attentive and constantly checked in. This is the third time we come to this establishment. The staff is super friendly and attentive. Great teamwork. The issue we ran into all three times is that when we ordered Mac&Cheese for our kid, it did not come out with the food. They forgot the Mac&Cheese all three times. We had to ask for it. I know its uncommon for anyone to eat Mac&Cheese for breakfast but kids are kids. Other issues: The bacon was pretty much burnt and they also forgot another item that never made it to our table. They did tried to charge me for it. This tells you that there is a disconnect between those taking orders, those preparing the orders, and then those checking to see if everything made it out from the original order. I was giving this place a chance, but I will not come back for a while. I will just try a different spot and hope the staff make some changes, because the place is great, it gets busy, and the coffee it good. But kitchen service is severely lacking order and organizational consistency. I hope things improve. read more
