I am usually on the hunt for a cafe where I can stay awhile and get some work done, and while this spot may not be perfect for that exact reason, I am still so happy to have this added to my list of great Metuchen spots. A coworker and I grabbed a table outside on a beautiful day, ordered some food, and while those were coming out, got to work. The waitress was lovely and got us the wifi password no problem. It worked perfectly even outside. The menu is such a wonderful mix of traditional breakfast and lunch items as well as some delicious looking, sounding (and tasting) Mexican dishes. I got the Balsamico wrap which was grilled chicken, mozzarella, roasted peppers, and sundried tomato pesto. It was DELICIOUS but much cheesier and decadent than I expected. I managed to get through half. It comes with either home fries or a salad and I of course went the home fries route. So so yummy. Those did not make it to the doggie bag. The space is big with lots of tables both inside and out. The service is wonderful and quick and the food is fantastic. Give them a try!

The breakfast bowl is my order almost every time. Bacon and hashbrowns, done right, not swimming in grease. I've tried every other item in the menu and I keep coming back to it. Coffee is genuinely top notch. I drink lattes and theirs are consistent, which is harder to pull off than people think. No burnt shots, no soupy foam. Staff are friendly and mostly Rutgers students, so the faces rotate a bit, but they're always on it. Mo, the owner, is around all the time and is a great guy -- the kind of place where the owner actually knows the regulars. If you're in or around New Brunswick and want a solid breakfast and a real latte, this is the spot. Bonus if you've got a dog with you. If it's the first time with the dog, ask to have their picture taken and added to the wall - if there's any space left. Imagine my surprise (mortal wound?) when I got it this time and it was nothing more than a turkey hot dog cut 4 ways. Like--this is embarrassing for both of us. Let's the bar high and deliver every time. Other than that supplier snafu we had an excellent time. The food was outstanding as well the service. Drusband created an elaborate but wholly believable ruse to get up from the table and unbeknownst to me used that time to tell the waitstaff it was my birthday. Next thing I know a woman rounds the corner with the most delectable mini Bundt cake - a treat that she said is homemade by a woman there who prepares them for special occasions. I was truly touched. I adore it here. Always feel welcome and I love being in a space with other Black people and people of color. Outside feels (and is!) very unsafe in this way right now. The panini was delicious! Cheesy with a great sauce and the mushrooms were soft and flavorful. I thought I'd only have room for half but ended up devouring the entire thing. It also came with a small and simple salad which was a nice bite to have on the side. I didn't love my latte too much as it wasn't very strong and would maybe stick with tea on my next visit. This was a great place to meet and chat before meetings. We took out our laptops to get a little work done (they do not have wifi so I don't recommend you plan to do that without a hotspot). For two sandwiches, two lattes and one hot cup of tea it came out to $60 after tax and tip. That is on the more expensive side, but I still am happy to have found a lovely lunch spot in the area.

It was LOUD and packed with people just standing around. The vibes were cool though. My friends came before me and were able to snag a table in the back room. I went up to the counter to order. Unfortunately my first choice, a matcha latte, was sold out. I asked if they had any other options because I'm not much of a coffee drinker. I was told that there were flavored lemonades, I asked the about the flavors and the person who was helping me wasn't sure so they went and asked another person who ended up coming to list the syrups and just ringing me out. I ordered a blueberry lemonade and a blueberry pop-tart to go. Everything was fine until the end of our time there. As we were getting ready to leave I grabbed what I thought was my cup and took a quick sip to finish it off so I didn't have to carry it around. Turns out I grabbed a coffee from the table instead. I thought it was my friend's so I apologized to her about drinking her drink because I didn't realize I grabbed the wrong one in the dark. She goes, "oh no it's not my drink...I have mine in my hand." I'm like whose drink and dishes are these? She said that they were there before they got there and they just pushed it to the side. Omg I almost gagged, I just took the biggest sip of some random person's drink by accident. At that point I get up to go to the bathroom to rinse out my mouth. While I'm gone by friends get their things ready and also wait outside the bathroom, which is right by our table. As soon as I get out I walk back to grab my pop-tart and it was gone, cleared away by the staff in a matter of minutes. Crazy that they left the table with dishes and cups when we got there but when we were leaving they were in a rush to clear away everything that they take my basically full pop-tart too. I was so defeated at that point I just left. To note, I did take one bite of the pop-tart and it was actually very good. My lemonade was fine, nice and tart. Overall service is kinda lacking but it was also a crazy day to visit with an event going on so I can't really comment on how they are normally. I don't think I will back because I don't know if I can recover from swigging some rando's drink.

We still love this place. The only exceptions are the breakfast burrito because it was so greasy and the mont blanc because the sweet cream curdled with the citrus and it was really clumpy.
