Gotta be real, most of the charm rests on the owner (AJ). I was brought here for a birthday meal/coffee catch up and was pleasantly surprised at the amount of attention the owner put on his customers. Generally, I'm prepared for some casual small talk before coughing up cash, but AJ seems determined to extract some minute details from his customer base. I've decided this is either because he is genuinely interested in people and this gig affords him the means to engage in this daily dose of meaningful conversation OR he's actually studying people for some greater research project of his own. Though, he was legit excited to make a latte, so maybe this is just a perfect situation for him. The spot is bright and was playing motown tunes that the window washer was singing along with. Needing maybe a few comfy chairs, Brewers still manages to create a homey ambiance that kept me there well after my latte was gone. Food selection: I came for an early lunch on Saturday and opted for a portabella panini. As a vegetarian, I always hoping for more interesting noms, but felt this was a reasonable offering of sandwiches for a small cafe. The pastry case was looking a bit cleared, so I think I may have missed out on a few treat options due to my brunchy time frame. I'm really happy to find people investing in the growth of Richmond and pursuing something that clearly they're amped to do every morning (and very possibly destined for from birth -- Brewer is his last name??). This is such a nice and cozy little coffee shop in South Richmond. There isn't the busy traffic or chaos that's associated with going to a Starbucks or other chain coffee shop. I ordered hibiscus ginger tea... Was pretty tasty! Good service! Good vibes! read more

This is exactly what Manchester needed. Anthony is extremely passionate about what he does and it shows. Brewers Cafe is the type of place where you walk in the door and if you've been there before, they know your name. He and his fiancé are locals who just want to be a solid neighborhood spot and they've definitely hit the mark. I haven't tried a sandwich I didn't love, I'm stuck between the roast beef and the club (turkey ham and turkey bacon substitute because I don't eat pork) and the caramel macchiato is better than Starbucks by far. Kudos to you guys you've got a regular here. read more

So ya'll know I love checking out local coffee shops! This one was outstanding! Owner was proud of what had created and it showed yet with no ego or crazy flamboyant energy. Great art, local of course. Great pour over, latte's were excellent. The sandwich was good even tho my parter wasn't crazy about it, I like spinach so it served me well. Being the lazy girl that I am, I never got the chance to explore the brewers cafe until today (I live like .1mi away). It didn't look like much, just a small neighborhood cafe. But BOY was I wrong. This cafe represents Richmond, and its' potentials. The food (sandwiches, wraps, bagels, etc) were amazing! Not like any pre-made, heated food from other chain cafes. It does take a time for the food to come out, but it is totally worth the wait. I had the brewers latte, which was full of flavor and had the perfect amount of sweetness. I ended up devouring my bagel the second it came out. No regrets. I had the honor of meeting the owner, AJ, who told me all about how he started the business. Let me preface this by saying that we're from up north and we take our coffee very seriously. We really only purchase from third-wave shops and roasters. We were down in Richmond doing some reviews for our family travel blog and whenever we stop anywhere we tend to scout out good coffee. We tried two other cafes and were unimpressed. Brewers was the one we'd planned to visit on our way out and I'm glad we did. The BEST coffee we had while in Richmond (better even than the Lab by Alchemy in our opinions). Really well done, no bitterness or burnt flavor and such amazingly friendly, relaxed service. It was very evident how much they valued the quality of what they served. This place is worth a stop! An iced latte and chocolate chip muffin in perfection! The latte was practically perfect (you have to add your own sweetener). This is a small cafe, but pretty "hip"-- there was a nice crowd, everything was clean and there were an array of menu options. I didn't have the opportunity to try any of their other menu items, but they ran a Wu tang sandwich theme and I wasn't able to stop in. I like that kind of creativity and I plan to return. read more

My friend and I made a stop in Richmond for a night on our way to DC from Roanoke. We were looking for a good breakfast, and just had to come here because of the lovely reviews! And the reviewers were right! The environment is really hip but also family friendly and warm. Cool art, even cooler tunes! We loved working on our computers at the bar seating by the window. The chai latte was made from real loose-leaf tea and was soooo delicious, the best I've ever had! We both really enjoyed our breakfast sandwiches as well. Brewer's is my favorite coffee shop in Richmond, hands down, and I've been to a lot of coffee shops in Richmond. I think I made a total of two trips before owner AJ knew my name and recognized me each time I came in, which is super impressive. I don't come here too often because it's a little out of the way in Manchester, but there are days where I'll treat myself to my favorite drink - their hazelnut latte - and right away my day is already off to a great start. A friend of mine came in from Maryland and heard about this little cafe. We decided to drop in on there theme night (Wu-Tang) interesting. It does have quite the charm and good customer service. I had a cocktail. love my coffee as much as I love my bourbon and decided to try the coffee the next day. I can say the coffee was really good but i loved the veggie wrap. They have a nice selwction for sandwichs, drinks, and coffee. I would definitely recommend. Not a long wait and they have outside seating.
