Best chili rellenos in Denver. Hands down.. and fantastic green chili and queso and never had a bad meal here

Seriously one of my favorite places. It is all about the green chili... that is if you want to call it that. The "sauce" is awesome. The food here sticks to your bones. I know that people tend to either love this place or hate it. Those that hate it are wrong. My standing order is the #1 which is a smothered burrito and chili rellano. Both are excellent, and of course, smothered in their version of green chili. I also want to give a mention to their salsa. It is excellent. The service is always great, the food comes out quick and hot, and the staff are always friendly and service oriented. Brewery Bar is a regular in my rotation. read more

Food is ok. Service is dive bar service (which is good depending on who you are). But ambiance. Oh man that gets points. Divey has he!!. And if you're feeling old, the crowd here will make you feel so young you may be scared you'll get poached and taken to a certain "island". And nothing wrong with that (the feeling young part, that island thing not so much). Come here for cool hole in the wall vibes and looks from the crowd if you don't have an AARP membership. 100% worth it. read more

Can't beat there special on Wednesday! 2 beef tacos for $5 and they are HUGE crispy and so yummy! The service was great. The two of us caught hh too so the mini rellanos were $5ish and the margs were $5. So 4 margs, tacos and rellenos for ~$40 Heck of a deal. Everyone is friendly as well. Yet another restaurant charging a service fee for using a credit card. I have been going there for 30-plus years. The food and service remain excellent. I will not return due to this fee. I don't care if it is posted somewhere or on the menus somewhere. They should tell you about it before you pay. It is not honest business. I don't think they will gain more by losing customers than by simply informing you or incorporating the change into their prices, as restaurants have been doing for decades. Too bad, I love this place. Costs going up is no excuse. Costs have gone up in all of our businesses. Either eat it or raise your prices like every other part of the economy. Additionally, it's not as if these fees are a new phenomenon. They have been there since credit card payments began. So why put them as a surcharge? Finally, credit cards account for the vast majority of all transactions. So it isn't as if credit card payments are an anomaly that has to be accounted for with special fees. Only 16% of all payments in the US are made with physical money. (Federal Reserve Financial Services) According to the most recent data, cash has seen another year of decline, going down 2% compared to last year. I will give them a call periodically to see if they have changed this policy. I am not against them covering this cost; it is the methodology that I have an issue with. If they do, I will return and take down this review and replace it with a 5-star review. read more

Horrible food - basically slop on a plate - worst Mexican food I have eaten in my 25 years in Denver

I really wanted to try the winner of the Denver Post March Madness best green chili, so we headed to the BB II tonight. I had no illusions about what I was getting into with regards ambience and location. Actually, I felt excited when I entered and saw the joint. It is like the bars my dad took me to in the sixties, seriously old school, and cleaner than I expected. While the food isn't bad, neither is it worth making a special trip. I realize that opinions on green chili are very subjective, but this style is not my preferred style. While it has good enough flavor, it's more like a soup rather than a gravy. The base is super watery and runny. It also has an inordinate amount of tomatoes which makes it look very red. that watery quality also makes the tortilla more soggy the longer it sits in the soup. On the plus side, I liked the whole beans (rather than the pureed stuff), and the tortilla had good texture. I will not throw the server under the bus. She had a good attitude for being the only server with too may tables to wait. We also left her a nice tip to show our appreciation for her hard work. read more

We've been coming here for 30 years now and nothing has changed. It's your classic hole in the wall, no frills, needs a serious makeover place to go for delicious Mexican food. We never get anything but a smothered burrito with chips, salsa and cheese because the green chili never disappoints. If you can't tolerate spicy, get the mild or 1/2 and 1/2. Paired with a margarita and I'm a happy girl. Servers have always been friendly and they are always hard at work, running around. Tip them well! They deserve it. read more

Lunch with coworker. Decided to eat here as they have a huge parking lot and yummy food. We were greeted and told to sit at an open table. Chose a booth and sat. The server greeted us right away. They had a good lunch crowd. She came to get our drink order and returned with them right away. We studied the special and then the menu. It was difficult as I wanted a Chile relleno but wasn't sure what I wanted with it. In the end I chose the chille relleno alone as I wasn't that hungry. He had the Chile relleno and cheese enchilada with beans. She brought chips and salsa and that was delish. The salsa had a little bite to it. So good. The food was a weird combo for me. My dish was warm and cold at the same time. The Chile relleno itself was warm but the sauce was a little like cold tomato soup. Not my fav. His dish was fine. Will still come back as we have been here before and they are usually pretty good. read more

I really wanted to like this spot since it's in my neighborhood and known to be "affordable" but upon further reflection... it actually isn't affordable at all and the food quality is horrible. Cocktails are boozy and priced around $8 which is good for denver but even their "skinny" Paloma's and margs taste like they have enough sugar to kill a toddler. The cheese and chips were so gross I couldn't eat it -- and I had just bought canned cheese earlier that week and enjoyed it so I'm really not picky. Salsa was bland and watered down. Their best known entree was priced at $17.99 and was simply adequate in taste. I feel bad leaving this review since the staff is friendly enough and the restaurant seems to be a spot where regulars happily gather which is the only reason I gave it two stars instead of one. If you're looking for cheap Mexican food in Denver, do yourself a favor and take this off your list unless you want to feel like you would have been happier saving your money and going to Taco Bell. read more

BB2 is a unicorn. I've been coming here for 40 years. Now we live out of state, but we make this a stop, most every time we get back. It's not going to be everyone's favorite MX food, but it has a strong following for a reason. I stick to the staples Chili Relleno Special, Hot Green, and maybe a cheese enchilada or burrito smothered too. Chips and salsa, margs, beer are all spot on too. Terrible service waited 10 minutes for waitress when she approached with a big smile on her face we asked if she could wipe off the table since it was not clean she said with that smirk on her face did we sit at a dirty table after telling us to sit anywhere,she actually said I'm going to have to ask you to get up and find another table instead of just wiping it off and walked away. We did get up and went to another table at a different restaurant. MEXICAN HAMBURGERS!! That's all I have to say. Every time I am in Denver, I go for their incredible mexican hamburgers with their "secret" chilli. My dad has been going to the Brewery Bar for over 5 decades. He even gets chilli shipped to his home in California. This is a small, historic bar/restaurant. It is the heart of Denver. If you can make an effort to go for lunch or dinner, I highly recommend it. Post up at the bar to watch your favorite game. The founders grand daughter will be there to serve you. Place had good atmosphere and the food smelled good. That's why I'm giving it one star. I ordered huevos rancheros and an iced tea, what I received were eggs and beans doused in what I can only describe as "chili water". The eggs were lost in the mess and my server never once stopped by to ask about my meal or offer a refill. After trying to find some form of egg in my soup, I quit and waited 20 solid minutes with a $20 in hand. Bartender looked at me several times but did nothing. I was finally brought my check and was asked if I needed change for a $14 bill. I replied YES and was given the "Thanks, have a good day" move. I was amazed at how flagrantly ignorant these people were, cut my losses before I was infected by their brazen inadequacies and left- vowing never to return again. Third time at the Brewery Bar II and just as good as ever. The chile relleno is absolutely over the top - one of the best I've ever had. The service was excellent as well. This place would be easy to pass by but you'll miss a great meal if you do. A word of caution, I love hot food and ordered the hot chili with chips. This was atomic! It I could give them negative stars I would. Rude staff, horrible customer service and food was awful. I'm not from here but my man lived here for decades. He was so excited to take me here. He was embarrassed that he had talked it up so much. Waitresses literally slammed everything on the table... drinks, salsa, and lunch. I got 2 tacos; a chicken and a beef. He got the chile rellenos. The tacos were not good and something was definitely off with the meat in the beef taco. The chile rellano sauce was like water with very little flavor. There are many better options in the area. Your guide to the Brewery Bar II - I've been coming here for years and here's my advice: I love dives. Want candles and subservient staff? Go elsewhere. The magic is in two spots, 1) the crispy rellenos - a unique delicious dish you won't find anywhere else. This is what brings back the buddies I have introduced. 2) the green chile ladled over anything you want. It comes "hot" "mild" or "half and half" (a mix of hot and mild). The regulars ask how hot it is today because you never know how hot a chili is until you eat it. Sometimes the hot is pretty tame, sometimes it's a scorcher. The staff has been there for years and the manager works herself in as a regular wait staff. They come across as all business, but don't let that fool you, they've got your back and will take care of you. Focus on your companions and great conversations, say what you need, and you'll find yourself going back for years to come. Good food, weird hours, brusk service. It's in an odd location but wasn't hard to find. The food was very good, maybe even borderline amazing (chili relleno is a specialty) and it came quickly. We were informed when we arrived that we were coming in late (I think we were there a little after 7 and they close at 8) but they would serve us. How gracious of them. I would go again. But if you are going before you go out for the night you're going to have some time on your hands in between. Hours are 11am to 8pm M-Th. They have "extended" hours F-Sa, 11am to 8:30pm. read more

I didn't even know this place existed. My friend had her birthday dinner here and honestly I was so confused where I was going. Her mom said they have the best green chili in town. We started off with mini chili rellano and omg! Definitely one of the best in Denver. And the green chili is really good and on the spicier side. And when it came to the entree, I got what my friend got. When it comes to food, I always trust her because she always gets the best stuff. Haha. I got the chili rellano and it came with a beef taco and bean tostado. So much food. I definitely had leftovers. And it was the best! Definitely good. I can absolutely recommend this food often to friends. It's delicious! The service is always excellent. BUT I CAN NOT recommend the place because the last two times I've stopped in for a meal I was greeted at the door by the most noxious sewer smells coming from the toilets. If I could give it a half of a star I would. The food at the Brewery bar2 has really gone down hill. I got the combination plate and it came out of the kitchen with a half of an inch of grease around my food , my combination plate was cold , the cheese wasn't even melted and it definitely wasn't green chili it was grease chili. my wife and her friend got the taco salad and both of them got sick from it that night. This food here is not good anymore . very bad . I truly believe my wife and her friend got food poisoning because they both got the taco salad and both of them got sick. Years ago the food here was great but not anymore . The prices are high and you get small portions. The way this restaurant is going it probably won't be in business in the near future Take my advice don't eat here , ther are much better Mexican restaurants around Denver that is a 100 times better than this slop house. read more

I have been here more than a few times over the last couple years. The food is consistently good. The service is excellent. You can tell when the majority of customers are "regulars" who have been coming for years, and this is one of those kind of places. The salsa is always outstanding. The green chili is loaded with chunks of pork and plenty of tomatoes, which is fine by me. Even the mild brings some heat. The hot green chili can sometimes go full nuclear. I used to really enjoy "three tacos and a beer" Tuesday's. The prices have crept up, but Denver ain't cheap. Check out BB2 if you get a chance. read more

The Chile rellanos are a must. I ordered the #1 meal with the fried Chile rellano with half and half chili. It also came with a burrito. I had some chips and salsa plus I ate the Chile rellano and a bite of the burrito and I was full! I'd go back and just order a plate of the rellenos because it was soooo GOOD! One of the oldest little dive bars in Denver, and I have never been there! What a mistake that was. Went in for lunch with a buddy of mine. We're seated quickly, even though the restaurant was pretty full. Server brought waters right away, but strangely enough, it took about 10 minutes before she brought us menus. I was a little bit miffed about that because we had a limited time Before we had to get back to work. That was reconciled when less than five minutes after we placed our order the food arrived. I got a combination plate with a Chile Riano, and a beef and bean burrito. Smothered in green chili. It wasn't the best, but it was up there. I thought it might be a little spicier than it was, but the flavor of the dish was outstanding! The servers were friendly, even though they were all pretty busy running around, taking care of their tables. I came here on many recommendations that the Brewery Bar II has the best green chili in Denver. I have been on the hunt for the past week for the absolute best! The Brewery Bar did not disappoint! Staff is extremely friendly even though they are obviously over worked. $5 for a bowl of eerily red, spicy chili full of chunks of peppers, pork, tomatoes and green chilis was fantastic! They serve it the traditional way with a plate of warm tortillas on the side... the only way it should be served. The chili was spiced well and the hot version that I got gave you a bit of a zing when swallowing which was fantastic. Great flavor through the chili. Very hearty and warming.
