First off, sorry forgot to take pics. I was really hungry. I have been here before , however it had been a while. This place is a bar, and if you have never been before, don't judge. The food is good. The green chili is really good. You must have " the mini's" to start. They are like a little mini cheese egg roll with a side of green chili. Ohh soo good. Some of the stuff is not home made (chips) but that's okay, the other good stuff is: tacos, burritos, salsa, chili etc. All the food is good. I could eat the green chili as a soup with a tortilla. The burrito is big and portions are plenty. The food is fast and the staff is so nice and polite. They have a dining area and a bar area. They have a full service bar and a private parking lot. The food was absolutely atrocious. I went with some coworkers. We all ordered something different and got our food in under 3 minutes; i.e. the cook isn't putting a whole lot of thought into things. All plates came out looking the same - they were drenched in some red, soupy water and haphazardly covered with lettuce, generic salsa and cheese. I had the mexican hamburger and was hoping to the Lord Almighty the actual burger portion would make up for the water logged toppings. Unfortunately the beef they used tasted old, rubbery and unnatural. I put my fork down after just two bites. The chips and salsa were good. But then again can you screw that up. That said, it's a pretty cool dive, with really good green chili. I am wimp when it comes to hot food, and it was a bit hot for me, but had a great flavor. Every other week my Grandma,Mom and sister get together for a ladies night! Brewery Bar is blocks away from where I live. Although the food was amazing the service was not up to par! As we were enjoying our time One of the female bartenders stood behind us while sitting down and told us "to start drinking them drinks so we can hurry up and get out." No warning, No politeness. We spent a couple hundred dollars. I will not be back nor will my family. We love to support little local businesses but After last nights Awkward and rude customer service. Once you truly understand that you will appreciate the divey atmosphere, great mexican food and AMAZING and friendly service from literally every employee in this place! I'd guess there are many regulars that frequent this place and it sorta feels like you walked in the gathering of family members you'd perhaps choose if you could. The food comes fast and yes, the green chili is great and get it HOT so you can truly appreciate the experience! Has the basic beers on draft (no hipster crafty beers on draft so move along hipsters and keep this place what it is please!) They may have craft beers in bottles but we were here for the experience and not fancy beers we can get anywhere else if wanted. They offer their own "taco sauce" which is a 'yes please!' The service at the bar was spectacular with a very kind and efficient bartender. He's quick, organized and very attentive regardless of how busy he is. I overheard a conversation he had with people sitting next to us where he made a super minor error (not a huge deal what was wrong) and was so apologetic to the customer. He then added what he got wrong on the house. What a nice guy! Some high end places could take note here on how to treat customers from this guy! No fancy margs, they're pretty sweet but hey...whatever! Again, one can find those just about anywhere so why come here for that? I will be back and can't wait! read more

There is, however, a III and IV. Third incorrect assumption you will make of this place: Their Mexican fare will be lame bar food. It is not. It is melt your face spicy hot. That being said, I wasn't absolutely gaga over this place. It was good food in gigantor proportions. The server was friendly and everything went pretty smoothly. I get a kick out of some of the reviews here for the BBII complaining about the food, service, etc. First off, this is a BAR! A real bar not a Chili's, or CB Potts, etc. It's not a brew pub, it got its name from BBI which was located in the Tivoli brewery way back when, BBI is long gone, hence the name Brewery Bar II! So then, I have been eating here off and on for 30 years, mostly for lunch. I come here for the green chili mostly, going half and half is a total cop out, if you can't stand the heat go eleswhere. The rellenos are good also, as are the enchiladas. The house margs are very good (no Jose' C. crap), the chips are not what you come here for and yes they are not to write home about. I will continue to put up with the funkiness of the place, poor parking, too fast service (which I appreciate when I'm in a hurry). The staff are real people, some have been there a very long time! If you want plastic, groovy people go elsewhere! In this day and age of constant change, too many damn laws and rules, places to be seen, it's nice to walk into a comfortable place and feel like it's a much simpler time. How can you not give a place a shot that is frequently billed as the best green chili in the city? That's no small claim for Denver. I was a bit skeptical from the get go (as I sure most first timers are) as the location made me feel like i should be packing heat on the way in for my own safety. Very divey location, and sure enough, very divey inside too. I got the a chili relleno and cheese enchilada plate (all covered in green chili of course). It was tasty, but certainly not the best in Denver. Even at the "hottest" spice level, it didn't really pack much of a punch, and wasn't very hearty as i would hope the "best in Denver" would be. The plate was also so liquidy that I would have borderline called it a soup. Total gut bomb, but usually when I come to a place like this, I've left my calorie tracker at home, so i didn't really mind. Would have definitely been a solid 3-star "A-OK" place for me, except our waitress was rushing us to finish because she was at the end of her shift and wanted her tip before she left. :/ Overall: - Quality artery clogging cheesy/greasy Ameri-Mexican food + good/affordable margs. - NOT the best green chili in the city. - Meh service. read more

Damn good! We hit this place up for lunch basically because people say this is the place to go in Denver for the Green Chili. They are right BBII's Green Chili is Tops. Just a heads up lunch goers, we got there on a Thursday at 11:45am and the place was already packed and by 12:45 it was clearing out. I was quite surprised for a place slightly off the path but hell, I know why. The Beef burrito smothered in Hot (5.25) was just hot enough. I've had much hotter (Santiagos) but this had the perfect balance between heat and flavor. As others have stated the GC is thinner but it does contain lots of chilis and huge chunks of Pork. I demolished the thing pretty quickly. As we were entering a guy leaving said the relenos were divine. I'll have to try that next time. read more

I won't be going here any more. The green chili sauce is pretty good and the supposedly famous relleno is mediocre at best - the "deluxe" appears to have Velveeta or some kind of cheap, rubbery block cheese on top. The red chili seemed like it comes straight from a Campbell's Chunky can. The chips and salsa actually made me feel sad. The chips were obviously the same thing as Tostitos, straight from a jumbo bag - cold and tasting of soybean oil. The salsa was also Tostitos, or something equally generic, from a large jar, refrigerator cold. It reminded me of camping when I was a kid, and digging Tostitos and convenience-store salsa out the small refrigerator in the camper. The prices are fairly high for what is essentially okay truck stop fare. Sorry, but this is the worst Mexican restaurant I have tried in Denver, including a lame Qdoba that was stingy with ingredients. If the prices were half or less, I might recommend the place to vagabonds or low-budget backpackers. read more

This place is just awful!! Tried it for the first and last time this week. We ordered chips and salsa with cheese. Now, at most other Mexican restaurants, this would mean cheese melted on the chips and salsa on the side or on the chips. Instead, what you get is a small bowl of warmed up cheese whiz and a small bowl of salsa (definitely not house made). The chips are, I KID YOU NOT!, TOSTITO's tortilla chips straight from the bag. The round salty ones. Ordered the cheese quesadilla and it was barrrrrrely warmed up the cheese wasn't even warm or completely melted. The guac was an odd light green color too and did not taste fresh. The other meals at the table were just floating in sauces. Truly the worst Mexican food I have other tested, what a shame!!! The service was already very poor. One guest had to return an item at the table because it was dirty and the waitress acted completely put out and irritated by it. Does every restaurant have to be new, trendy or authentic to be great...NO. I've been eating at the BBII for over twenty years and I can tell you that there are ony a few things I dislike - the too small bathrooms and too few parking spaces. Other than that, I loved this place the first time I went and I still love it today. That being said, I must admit that I only eat the fantastic chili rellanos (smothered with either all green or a combo of green and red chili). For me, one is enough but you should eat it with a "tiny" beer. The green chili is hot, but not as hot as it was years ago when it was sear the top of your head off hot. The red is mild but flavorful which is why I like to order half-n-half. The rellano is plump, crispy, full of cheese and green chilies and covered in what ever combination of sauce you desire. If you're a Yelp-snob you won't like nor appreciate a place that is, after many-many years, still a whole-in-the-wall and closes early and serves good tex-mex. There is no late night party crowd but the food is consistently good. The staff is friendly. Oh, and the "tiny" beers are huge! read more

I have been eating at the Brew Bar since 1980. I always order the "crispy chile relleno with [hot] green". No red or Christmas or mild for me. One plate of this and two Tiny beers and I am a happy boy. The best part about the Brew Bar is that nothing (other than the disappearance of tobacco smoke) has changed in 28 years. Many years ago I went there for lunch with a large group and then stayed through the afternoon talking with a co-worker and watching the ladies sort the beans. Brewery Bar is the place I go to when I need to be closer to a heart attack or need to open up my sinuses due to a cold! Thankfully, I also go to enjoy the hot and spicy green chili! I had never heard of this place until 3 years ago when my boyfriend opened up my horizons to the love of green chili! When I first walked in I was a little nervous because it is a DIVE by all definitions! But the food, service (super fast) and the beer/mini margaritas. They don't have the best beer on tap but it comes in very large glasses so sometimes you have to take quantity over quality. They do have a mini margarita that is very good...nice a strong! There chips and salsa I crave but I know they are totally ghetto. The waitstaff is good almost 90% of the time...they are lifers because it's always the same crew whenever I go...but the best part of all is the green chili. There chili rellenos are to die for, they have the super crispy egg roll wrapper that is loaded with chili and cheese that just oozes out as you cut into it. I always get the HOT green chili smothering the relleno that has the most decadent pork medallions and the nice spice that just awakens all your senses! I have had there burritos, tostados and there tacos but the chili relleno will always hold a special place in my heart...! There green chili is sometimes super spicy and other times milder so it is a hit or miss but over all it is good every time! They are closed SUNDAYS so make sure to get your craving taken care of before then. They do have other locations that are much fancier and do have few different menu options. Went with some friends for dinner. I have eaten there before and I am not impressed. This last experience was disgusting. I ordered the Mexican Hamburger plate smothered with green chile. I should've known better when I told the waitress to cook the burger medium-rare and she said I can only get it medium. I received my meal and of course the chile is soupy therefore making the tortilla soggy. As I was eating my meal, I noticed a weird taste. I dissected the burger from everything, took a bite and then asked my friend of the burger tasted weird. Old, frozen bad meat. Sour tasting. The waitress came by and I told her about the meal and she offered a replacement meal, but I declined. I will never go back. As for the best Mexican food in Denver, oh hell no!! Long ago, this was one of the Holy Grail Mexican food stops in Denver. Now, not so much. While I still appreciate their chili rellenos, there is something amiss at the old Brewery Bar II. Granted we went a little late for lunch so the good news was we missed the rush. The bad news was getting a server to act like they cared was like trying to find a parking space on the street during Taste of Colorado. Ten minutes, not even a hello. Then, after ordering (and before food was served) our server informed us that she would need payment as her shift was ending. She then gestured vaguely away and said "so and so will take care of you." Well, we never saw "so and so" at all. Another bonus was that we simply helped ourselves to drink refills. But enough about the crappy service, on to the food. I had a combination plate which included a smothered burrito. When the green is actually watery, that is not a good sign. The spicy heat was also unoriginal and gave off a dried spices from a spice rack kind of taste. Yeah, it's hot, it just doesn't taste good. The taco meat had a mild dish rag taste and again - soupy is not the consistency I'm looking for in a taco. The cheese enchilada was probably the best thing I had, and that's saying something. Cheese and onions rolled in a corn tortilla, bake it, then add a sauce? I can do this at home for way less money and I don't have to deal with any attitude from the other items in the combo. In short, The Brewery Bar II needs to watch the quality control and manage the servers a bit better - if you cut someone, cut them and don't let that server take another table. To me asking for payment "because my shift is over" is unacceptable in any culinary environment. Hospitality, people - look it up. read more

It's instances like this where I wish I could give half stars. While I don't think this place did enough to get 3 stars, I don't think it was egregious enough to only get 2. But alas, no half stars to give, so I have to round down to two. We stopped in here on a Sunday for lunch. We originally had plans on going to Breckenridge Brewery, but since they weren't open and this place was nearby we took a chance. I'm not sure why this place is called Brewery Bar, the only beers they had on tap were the standard domestics save for the lone micro, a red ale from Breckenridge. The name is definitely a misnomer as the beer selection leaves some to be desired, not to mention that it is a Mexican restaurant. The vibe in here is pretty easy going, however. Very laid back, very casual. You get the sense that this is a place where everybody knows your name... and they're always glad you came. On to the food. Ordered the smothered beef burrito with half and half pork green chili. The chili had an interesting appearance, for being "green" chili, it looked more like marinara sauce. It did taste like chili, however. I would say it's very similar to what they serve at Santiago's, although maybe not as good. The pork was a little over cooked, same could be said for the beef in the burrito. It was pretty dry, almost cardboard dry, but I still finished my plate and left full. I probably wouldn't go out of my way to go here again, but it worked for us given the situation we were in. read more

I don't get why a friend raved about this place. Serving sizes were plenty but the ground beef in the taco was completely lacking flavor. A fair amount of grease, too. And the slop that was presented as a cheese enchilada and bean burrito, was just that, slop. And what's with the Tostitos brand round tortilla chips and salsa from Pace or some other grocery stand brand. Completely unoriginal. The service was adequate but the server seemed to have a bit of an attitude. Be sure to avoid sitting at a booth or table at the end opposite the front entrance. I made the mistake and the tables are too close to the restrooms--scent travels. I was not impressed and will not return. Too many better-tasting alternatives. Once a completely unknown Mexican 'Hole-in-the-Wall" joint spun out of the BBI, run by the same family, the word is seeping out that this is a good place to eat and/or hangout. One hopes that its growing notoriety does not produce the same negatives incurred by other previously unknown restaurants that made some "Best Of" list only to be overrun with crowds. BBII's probably the best known for its excellent green chili, seasoned to order and thick with meaty pork chunks, then served with cold draught beers. Try a "The Tiny" for lunch sometime and see if you get back to work the same day!. Since the tortillas are fresh at BBII my favourite meal is a beef and bean burrito topped with their green chili. The frijoles are made fresh as well to serve as an excellent side dish. Somehow the rice is subpar but then again every place has a dish that does not seem to work. My fiance and I ate dinner here last night. We hadn't been a long while, but I'm happy to report that nothing has changed. I'm not a huge salsa fan but I did like the salsa here. The chips are Tositos-like, not your typical chips at a Mexican restaurant. I had combination five smothered with the red chili sauce. The sauce was mild, which is good because I'm not a huge spice fan. There is a lot of meat in the red chili, so don't select that option if you don't want your entire plate covered in red, meaty chili. I preferred the taco to the enchilada and burrito, partially because it wasn't smothered. My fiance had the taco combination (can't remember the number) and the mild green chili. He said even the mild was spicy, which he enjoyed. Oh, and Monday's are happy hour all day - $3.50 margs, $2 beers, etc. The margaritas were heavy on the sour but still tasty. If you're looking for quick service and an inexpensive Mexican meal, then head to Brewery Bar II. read more

The Brewery Bar II and I have a history. My dad turned me on to the Brewery Bar. He and his work buddies would visit anytime they had the chance. A tiny tea and one of the combination plates, smothered in green chile, is the order. I don't know if the tiny tea is available anymore as I have graduated to a beer with the meal... The food comes out fast, hot and tasty. We've seen beans being sorted on the table and heard the banter between the regulars and the staff. Every single thing that one star reviewers have said is TRUE! Denver is cursed with some pretty below mediocre Mexican food and this place has been an offender for years. The first time I went I couldn't believe how awful it was, the people I was with raved about it so I tried not to be rude. Even before I ordered I was grossed out, the decor, servers and menu don't help. The second time I went I just had a drink and tried not to puke in my mouth. I always passed this hole-in-the-wall on my drive home from work, and was hoping to visit someday as it just looks like the sort of place where you stumble into and have the time of your life for $20. After work one day a group of us decided we needed more drinks than what was provided at an office party, so we walked over. I was sticking to beer as my old age doesn't really permit the hard alcohol that it used to. The beer was reasonably priced, and our server was incredibly kind and affable. I ordered some green chili, and the waitress automatically said "mild?" Being the lover of all things spicy that I am I was overjoyed to hear there was a "hot" option and ordered that, letting the server's doubtful look at me and my ability to eat it make me even more excited. When I got it everything clicked in to place because it was too spicy for me to even have a bite of. I made myself finish it as a pride thing but MAN! I think that's amazing, because normally when something proclaims itself as "hot" it is nowhere close, and this place really nailed it! My friends shared a pitcher of margaritas, which was more than enough for the 4 of them and came to $40, which is an amazing price. They were a bit sugary, though, which caused everyone to have a pretty bad headache the next day, so drink at your own risk. Though this bar is a bit run down from what I've seen of it I think it is a great little neighborhood haunt. I do have to say that the bartender serving me was super awesome. He was courteous and attentive from the moment I arrived. He took my order and it was very quick. If the service is always like that then I might suggest this place on that alone. As for the food, it was fine.
